Tropes in this episode:

  • Air Quotes:
Mini-Max: I am also responsible for all of your "accidents". Finger-quotes intended!
  • Bound and Gagged: Halfway; Wasabi is taped down to a chair by his wrists by Fred.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Chief Cruz is constantly butting in on Megan and Hiro, among other things reminding them that they're not at dating age.
  • Breather Episode: A wacky, lighthearted episode after the highly emotional finale of the City of Monsters arc, though it does escalate to serious peril mid-episode, and Fred has to deal with an evil-turned Mini-Max.
  • Bus Full of Innocents: A runaway street train nearly smashes into a bus full of children, narrowly being stopped by Hiro and Baymax.
  • Disapproving Look:
Honey: Freddy, are you okay? You look...
    GoGo: Terrible.
    Honey: (disapproving look)
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When the team overhears that Megan wants to uncover their secret identities, Fred tries to reassure everyone that no one can figure out their identities... except for Obake, Momokase, Krei, Granville...
  • I Warned You: Wasabi's response when Fred vents about his sudden bad luck. This was after he tried to prove to Wasabi that superstitions are a myth.
  • Morality Dial: Getting shorted out by water swaps Mini-Max from good to evil.
  • Offscreen Villain Dark Matter: Mini-Max turns evil because of a short, and in less than a day manages to piece together his own (adorable) evil costume complete with cape, and rigs up a magnet trap to pin Baymax.
  • Police Are Useless: A 14 year old girl seems to be a better detective than the police's best detectives. What she was able to find out at the end of the episode, major hot spots where Big Hero 6 have been spotted, would be considered the bare basic one would do when trying to find someone.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Played with. Fred doesn't attempts to prevent the prophecy (the bad omens) from happening, he attempts to prove that the bad omens are a load of rubbish to begin with. Because of him Tempting Fate in every way he could think of, Mini-Max ends up damaged by water; water messes up his personality chip so he turns evil and arranges a series of "accidents" for Fred. So, Fred's attempts to disprove the prophecy fulfill it.
  • String Theory: Megan has assembled a bulletin board to find out Big Hero 6's identities. Hiro is worried that she has pinpointed the university, Krei Enterprises, and, most worrying, the Lucky Cat as common locations for sightings.
  • Superstition Episode: Fred discovers that Wasabi is superstitious, and takes it upon himself to prove to him that there's no such thing as bad luck. But when he finds himself narrowly avoiding deadly accidents (actually caused by evil Mini-Max), Fred thinks he's gotten bad luck and asks Wasabi for help.
  • Tempting Fate: Fred runs through a gauntlet of bad luck cliches in order to prove to Wasabi that his paranoia is unfounded. It ends up setting off a Disaster Dominoes that shorts out Mini-Max and sets the plot in motion.
  • That Poor Cat: Wasabi freaks out after several instances of spilled salt and tosses the entire shaker over his shoulder. Cue Mochi yelling in the background, then tackling Wasabi.
