BFDI 1a: Take the Plunge
Well everybody, they’re building the island of luxury. It’s called Dream Island.
The Announcer

The first episode of the Battle for Dream Island series. 20 inanimate objects are living about their lives until an Announcer falls from the sky and tells them that they can win Dream Island, an island of luxury. The 20 contestants face off against each other in a challenge where they have to knock each other off of a balance beam. Leafy and Pin are left as the last two standing, but before either of them can make a move to push each other off, the Announcer tells them that they are going to be picking teams for a longer, larger battle to win Dream Island.

In the second part of the episode, the teams are chosen by Leafy and Pin respectively. Leafy's team becomes the Squashy Grapes, and Pin's becomes the Squishy Cherries. The first team challenge involves them making a boat and sailing it across the Goiky Canal. The Squashy Grapes end up losing, and one of their members will be voted off by the viewers.

Tropes include:

  • Agony of the Feet: As the Squishy Cherries are building a boat, Eraser steps on a nail and screams.
  • The Alliance: Bubble, Match, and Pencil form one at the start of the first challenge. Ice Cube also tries to join, but Pencil disallows her after Icy accidentally knocks her off the balance beam.
  • Alpha Bitch: Flower. She abuses everyone around her and is very vain and selfish.
  • Arch-Enemy: Firey and Coiny are established as this in the episode.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: When the numbers 1 to 5 appear above the rest of the contestants that are not in teams, Woody looks up at the number 5 above him, which scares him.
  • Cuckoo Finger Twirl: Blocky does it while pointing at Pin when she says that he "has issues".
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • Rocky actually speaks.
    • Blocky is slightly more passive.
    • Snowball, unlike later episodes, isn't portrayed as the straight up jerk that he is known as, and much more like a grump.
    • Leafy's voice is quite a bit higher-pitched and more feminine-sounding. Same with Bubble, although her voice does get higher-pitched again in BFDIA.
    • While BFDI episodes after this one don't make dirty jokes as often, this episode has a joke about the middle finger put in.
  • Everyone Can See It: Well, at least Coiny. He thinks that Golf Ball and Tennis Ball make a cute couple, but Golf Ball insists that she only likes Tennis Ball in a platonic way.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: With a few exceptions, the objects don't know each other and some spark up some friendships.
  • Flipping the Bird: "Um, Pin? ...Wrong finger."
  • Kissing In A Tree: Coiny teases Golf Ball and Tennis Ball this way, to which Golf Ball replies that she only likes Tennis Ball in a platonic way.
  • The Leader: Pin and Leafy. They pick their own team members after winning the first challenge.
  • Mouthscreen:
    • The close-up of Match's mouth as she says, "Like the time [Flower] asked Icy if she was beautiful."
    • The close-up of Tennis Ball's mouth as he says, "He is balsa," after telling Teardrop not to kick Woody.
    • The close-up of Pin's mouth as she chooses Pencil to be on her team.
  • Multi-Part Episode: The episode is split into two parts, since YouTube at the time didn't allow videos that are more than 10 minutes on the platform.
  • Picked Last: Woody is the last contestant to be picked. Pin isn't happy to have him on her team, and barfs all over him.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Teardrop sends Woody flying with just a kick.
  • Scars Are Forever: Woody is chipped on the top of his head, and retains the chip for the remainder of the series, even after the various times he dies and is recovered. He doesn't appear to be harmed, however.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Pin vomiting on Woody.
