Recap / Avengers Assemble S 5 E 14 The Vibranium Curtain Part 1

Go To

In order to find out where Killmonger's gotten to, T'Challa plans to get to the Vault, where Ulysses Klaue is being kept. Problem is only the Avengers files can get him there...

Tropes:

  • All According to Plan: Black Panther's beaten by Bucky, arrested and taken to the Vault... exactly where he wanted to go.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Bucky is perfectly willing to blow up his own metal arm if it knocks T'Challa out.
  • The Bus Came Back: Ant-Man and the Winter Soldier return.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Round 1 between Black Panther and the Winter Soldier is a painful flawless knock-out for T'Challa. But Bucky's soon back up on his feet.
  • Family-Friendly Firearms: Zigzagged. Bucky's BFG shoots lasers and explosive mines.
  • Flawed Prototype: Tony busts out a new armor mid-episode designed solely for fighting Black Panther. As T'Challa demonstrates, taking it into action without proper testing wasn't the best idea. The energy drain proves too much.
  • Foreshadowing: As seen in O.O.C. Is Serious Business below, during T'Challa's fight with Black Widow, he points out that her anger is not like her and that she's always cool-headed.
  • It Always Rains at Funerals: The ceremony for Cap is, of course, in the pouring rain. It's not Thor's doing, and he's about to use his powers to make it stop when Black Widow tells him not to.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: T'Challa and Scott fight for a bit, and Scott thinks he's gotten through to T'Challa... but it's a feint so he can activate the Giant Man settings on Scott's glove, putting him out of the action.
  • It's Personal: Understandably, Bucky is a little absolutely furious at Black Panther over the whole Steve thing, which is why he was called in, but it also means getting him to stop attacking is impossible. Tony's only just able to talk him down from going too far when T'Challa's finally knocked out.
  • Mundane Utility: Ant-Man's using his abilities to mix a sandwich at ant-size.
  • Mythology Gag: To Captain America: Civil War. There, Black Panther and the Winter Soldier were in a stern chase where one was falsely accused and the other was determined to kill them for apparently harming a loved one, but here the roles are reversed; Winter Soldier's out for the Black Panther's blood.
  • Only Sane Man: Poor Ant-Man doesn't want to attack Black Panther, unlike everyone else in the Tower.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: As Black Panther even states while fighting her, Black Widow's relentless hostility towards him is extremely unlike her. Hmm...
  • What You Are in the Dark: Tony's only able to talk Bucky down by pointing out vengeance isn't what Steve would want.
