Winner runs the farm!

Angry with how the Plantar farm is being run, Sprig decides to overthrow Hop Pop.

    Full Recap
TBA...

This episode has examples of:

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: While in the graveyard, Hop Pop finds a beetle on its back and turns it over. Because of this, the beetles at the cemetery become his servants.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: The giant mosquitoes that are attracted to the new pool. One of them lays eggs in said pool.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: While the episode shows that Hop Pop could be more receptive to suggestions, it also shows that a lot of Sprig's ideas are inane or poorly thought out and when Sprig is allowed to enact them, they end up wrecking the farm.
  • Brick Joke: Sprig asks Hop Pop if they could build a pool to cool off in, the latter objects because pools attract pests. Surely enough, when the kids do build one, giant mosquitoes invade the pools, with some of them laying eggs.
  • Butt-Monkey: The clown Sprig hires to entertain the farm. He first gets randomly beaten up by Polly, then gets treed by some cow-worms, and is last seen being chased by the giant mosquitos.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Sprig criticizes Hop Pop for the way he runs the farm, and challenges him for control of it. Much to everyone's surprise, he wins.
  • Description Cut: Sprig is sure Hop Pop is doing fine after being ousted. Cut to what appears to be Hop Pop's skull in front of the entrance to the graveyard. Subverted in that Hop Pop is still alive, although he's wandering the graveyard waiting to die.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The bugs infesting the potatoes are too scary and gross even for the insect-eating Plantars to want any part of.
Sprig: Don't let it touch me! Don't let it touch me!
  • Exact Words: After being reinstated, Hop Pop promises to read all the suggestions in the suggestion box and not have a fire pit hidden in said box. Of course, he didn't say anything about throwing them in the fireplace afterward. He also isn't rejecting the suggestions outright, and does consider one of them a "maybe".
  • Furry Reminder: As Sprig and Hop Pop get angry at each other, their throat sacs inflate and they let out a croak.
  • Gilligan Cut: When Sprig challenges Hop-Pop...
Anne: I'm sure this will all make sense in a moment
    (later)
Anne: Nevermind. WHAT THE HECK'S GOIN' ON?!
  • Honor Before Reason: Even though his ideas have made a huge mess of the farm, Sprig refuses to relinquish control or ask Hop Pop for help.
  • Hypocrite: Sprig wanted to take charge of the farm on account that Hop Pop doesn't listen to anyone's ideas or suggestions. When the farm is in shambles, Anne and Polly suggests that they should let Hop Pop take control of the farm again, Sprig objects. When he asks if they like being listened to, Anne states that she doesn't feel listened to at the moment, and Polly agrees.
  • Jerkass Ball: Sprig has this after the farm is destroyed and refuses to listen to Anne and Polly's suggestion in putting Hop-Pop back in charge, and even calls Hop Pop a tyrant, forcing Anne and Polly to find him themselves and Sprig to dismiss them as backstabbers for their "betrayal". But Sprig has a Heel Realization during his and Hop Pop's second fight after Hop Pop admitting that he was wrong, and he should've listened to Sprig's suggestions. With Sprig admitting that some of his ideas were terrible and decides to let Hop-Pop run the farm again.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Hop Pop may be a strict boss, but he does know how to properly run a farm, as Sprig finds out when he takes over and finds it too hard for him. However, his adventure with the beetles makes Hop Pop realize that he could be more understanding of the others' concerns, and he makes some small concessions.
  • Loincloth: Hop Pop and Sprig wear these for their sumo match.
  • Pet the Dog: Although Hop Pop has essentially gone back to burning the kids' suggestions (with the difference being he bothers to read them before burning), he does hear out at least one suggestion: he plants a tree-sized mushroom near where they work so they can have shade to cool off in.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: During their rematch, Hop Pop points out that Sprig will lose control of the farm no matter the outcome; either he'll run it into the ground himself or Hop Pop will take control and fix it up.
  • Sumo Wrestling: Sprig and Hop Pop's challenge basically amounts to a sumo match, where the wrestlers rub swamp mud on themselves beforehand.
  • Versus Title: Well, yeah.
