Recap / Alfred J Kwak S 2 E 13 De Heks

Go To

When has to babysit Ollie's children, Alfred reads them the story of Hansel and Gretel. When he falls asleep, he dreams that the witch from the book comes to life and forces him to marry her.

Tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: The witch tries to marry Alfred by force.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: In the hebrew dub, Ollie is a cis woman instead of a trans mannote . However his wife and kids seen in this episode don't go anywhere, making him lesbian instead of straight.
  • Affably Evil: The King of the Witches is rather amiable for a giant monster, giving his blessing for the witch's marriage to Alfred and telling her that Alfred is a laugh riot.
  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Alfred pats the youngest child's head with his wing.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Alfred randomly builds a random robot, which randomly runs amok.
  • Dub Name Change: In the finnish dub:
    • The youngest child, the one with a bow and a diaper, is named Anni.
    • The other girl is named Mari.
    • The boy in a pink shirt is Pasi.
  • Furry Confusion:
    • In the Hansel and Gretel scene you can hear an owl hooting in the middle-of-nowhere forest in the middle of the night, somewhere in the trees. While the owl isn't seen, this would be a weird thing for a person to do.
    • The boy says Hansel and Gretel didn't get back home the second time because they used breadcrumbs, and birds ate the breadcrumbs.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Alfred immediately becomes this after he sees Ollie talking to Winnie. It's understandable because of what happened in episode 36 that he doesn't fully trust Winnie, but Ollie is married and showing no interest.
  • Hollywood Darkness: A weird animated example, both in Hansel and Gretel and in the real life at the end. Everything is clear, just tinted dark blue, yet you supposedly can't see anything.
  • No Name Given: At least in the finnish dub, the kid in overalls, and the kid with non-pink shirtnote , aren't named. In the english dub they are Tom and Billy, but it's unclear which is which (and if that wasn't enough, he then immediately callsthe one in the pink shirt "Billy" too).
  • Non-Mammal Mammaries: The witch's duck form. One could argue she's trying to make herself more attractive to Alfred. However the birds in this series -with propably one or two individual exceptions- do not have breasts, raising the question of whether/why would Alfred be attracted to them.
  • Or Was It a Dream?: Was the witch at the end a hallucination or did the supposedly-a-dream encounter happen? If it did happen, there are several details that don't fit in (falling and waking up on floor, Winnie in the dream), just like the similiar situation in the chess queen episodes.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: The fairytale Alfred reads says that the evil witch has red eyes.
  • Smart People Build Robots: Propably the reason for Alfred's random robot scene.
  • Taken for Granite: The witch threatens to turn Alfred completely into stone, and later does it. She later returns him to normal and only petrifies him from waist down.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Both of Ollie's kids who are unambiguously girls wear bows on their heads.
  • Vacuum Mouth: When Alfred tries to run away from the witch, she just uses her superbreath to catch him and then turns him to stone.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Alfred's and Ollie's friendship seems to have soured a bit, not only on Alfred's but also Ollie's side. Alfred doesn't seem to trust him and Ollie acts somewhat rudely towards him, while being polite to Winnie.
