Go To

The fourty-sixth episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

When a meteor is about to hit Turtle Town, Robotnik challenges Sonic to the Roboolympics for the most medals. If Sonic wins, Robotnik will stop the asteroid - but if Robotnik wins, then he'll let the asteroid hit the town.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Agony of the Feet:
    • When Scratch hands Robotnik his remote-controlled anti-gravity balls for the Shot Put event, he accidentally drops them on Robotnik's feet, putting Robotnik in pain.
    • In the Weightlifting event, Scratch and Grounder accidentally drop a dumbbell on Robotnik's foot. This angers Robotnik to the point where he gives the two robots the option of punishing themselves or letting him do it for them. Scratch and Grounder punish themselves by bashing their heads in with hammers.
  • Brains Versus Brawn: Sonic correctly figures that Robotnik built Arnold Robonegger to be "all muscle and no brains". Thus, he tricks Robonegger into adding more and more weight, then encourages him to go first. The excess weight causes Robonegger to collapse through the floor, allowing Sonic to win the event by picking up a much smaller and more managable weight.
  • Brought to You by the Letter "S": Robotnik wears a shirt with "R" on it for the duration of the event.
  • Comet of Doom: A meteor is headed for Turtle Town, and Sonic has to win the most gold medals in the Robolympics so Robotnik will destroy the meteor and save Turtle Town.
  • Everything Is an Instrument: Grounder manages to use his nose drill as a trumpet to accompany Robotnik's announcement which annoys the latter so much he snatches it and shoves it straight through Grounder's head, where his ears would be.
  • Expy: Robotnik creates a robot called Arnold Robonegger to take his place in the weightlifting event. The robot is a clear one of these to Arnold Schwarzenegger, even speaking with Arnold's mannerisms and accent.
  • Eye Pop: Robotnik's eyes stretch when he sees that the heat-seeking torpedo is coming at him.
  • Grenade Hot Potato: When Sonic discovers his ball is really a bomb, he tosses it at Scratch and Grounder, and it explodes when Grounder catches it.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: During the final event, the Marathon, Scratch and Grounder electrify the hurdles to electrocute Sonic. Sonic easily jumps over the hurdles, while Robotnik gets electrocuted by one when he tries to jump over it.
  • High-Dive Hijinks: During the Marathon, Sonic dives into a pool of water, which Scratch and Grounder attempt to sabotage it by freezing the water. Sonic gets out of the pool before the water freezes, and when Robotnik attempts to dive, Scratch and Grounder climb onto the diving board to warn him not to jump. Unfortunately, their combined weight causes the board to break and them to fall into the frozen water.
  • I Lied: When Robotnik tries to destroy Sonic with the Magnetic Veg-O-Matic, Sonic demands to know about their deal to save Turtle Town, as by this point he'd technically won. Robotnik replies with a Throat-Slitting Gesture and an Evil Laugh, showing that he had no intention of honouring the deal anymore.
  • Impact Silhouette: Scratch and Grounder leave noticeable holes shaped like them when they fall through the ice. Robotnik just shatters it completely.
  • Improvised Parachute: In the Pole Vault event, Sonic uses his own quills as a parachute to safely descend.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: When Robotnik throws a ball, Grounder runs away saying he left the water running.
  • NOT!: When Sonic tells Tails "It's not about whether you win or lose, it's about how you play the game" and sees Robotnik get a medal, the duo responds in unison "Not!"
  • Piranha Problem: In the Pole Vault event, Scratch and Grounder sabotage the gym mat to reveal a tank of Robo Piranhas underneath it. While Sonic manages to avoid falling into the tank, Scratch and Grounder accidentally forget to take the Robo-Piranhas out of it, and when Robotnik lands in the tank, the Robo-Piranhas chomp him.
  • Pseudolympics: The titular Robolympics are held in this episode.
  • Selective Magnetism: With Sonic approaching the Finish line in the Marathon, as a last resort, Robotnik uses his Magnetic Veg-O-Matic to pull Sonic in by the metal cleats of his shoes. After Tails helps Sonic escape, Sonic tricks Robotnik into attracting the meteor with the Veg-O-Matic so that the meteor will hit Robotnik, Scratch, and Grounder instead of Turtle Town.
  • Shout-Out: The robot in the weightlifting contest highly resembles Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  • Sore Loser: Robotnik loses the games to Sonic, but welshes on the deal to save Turtle Town and focuses utterly on destroying Sonic.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Robotnik mentions he's surrounded by a bunch of burned-out circuits.
  • Unfortunate Item Swap: In the Shot Put event, Grounder accidentally swaps his stereo remote for Robotnik's radio-controlled anti-gravity ball remote, much to the latter's dismay.
  • Wet Cement Gag: During the Marathon, Scratch and Grounder sabotage the long jump event with quick-drying cement, which traps Sonic when he lands in it. Fortunately for Sonic, Robotnik inadvertently sets him free when he jumps onto the hardened cement in an attempt to jump over it.
