Basic Trope: A character berates another for putting themselves in danger before becoming happy that they're safe.
- Straight: Summer gets angry at Danny for nearly putting himself in danger in his battle against Emperor Evulz, just before crying with joy that he's safe and sound.
- Exaggerated: Summer beats up Danny for nearly killing himself in an epic showdown with Emperor Evulz while sobbingly asking him why she is doing this to him. She then hugs him while sobbing on his chest.
- Downplayed: Summer calls Danny an idiot for putting himself in harm's way, but later tells him that she's happy that he's alive.
- Justified:
- Danny is an Idiot Hero who always rushes into action without thinking, which displeases Summer, who wants him to be more careful.
- Danny is waking up from a Near-Death Experience due to his own actions. Summer wastes no time to drill the "stupid" out of Danny's Lawful Stupidity.
- Inverted: Summer sends Danny after Emperor Evulz, hoping for him to die. When he lives, she tells him how proud she is of him, so he would put himself in more danger.
- Subverted:
- Summer looks like she might be angry to start with but immediately smiles when she sees Danny is all right.
- Summer's not angry because she was worried about him. She was angry because of the sheer stupidity it would take to do such a thing.
- Double Subverted:
- Then she kicks him in the groin and tells him not to worry her so much.
- For whatever reason, Summer can't express her worry, and she claims she was mad at him for being stupid.
- Parodied: Summer gets so angry at Danny that she injures him worse than any enemy fighter did, all while enthusing that he's safe and unscathed.
- Zig-Zagged: Summer gets angry at Danny, but then sobs happily that he's safe, only to become angry at him again, then becomes happy again. She goes back and forth, until Danny gives her a Cooldown Hug, at which point she happy-cries in his arms.
- Averted: Summer doesn't get angry or berate Danny. She only cries happily that he's safe.
- Enforced: Rule of Drama.
- Lampshaded: "Let me guess, you're mad because you thought I was dead?"
- Invoked: Since Summer is a Tsundere, she rationalizes berating him to discourage more dangerous idiocy without letting on that she likes him.
- Exploited: Summer is locked out of the fight between Evulz and Danny, so all she CAN do is worry and let that anger build up. At least until Lt. Drake shows up, at which point she starts taking it out on him. The following encounter is a cathartic brawl.
- Defied: Summer would feel foolish if she snaps at Danny for getting into danger, so she tries not to get angry at him.
- "Summer? I get you're worried and all, and I'm not in that good of shape. But do. Not. Shout at me."
- Discussed:
- "Yeah, I shouldn't get myself hurt, but that doesn't mean you have to be so angry about it!"
- "If you're going to do something dangerous, then be careful. If I didn't love you, I wouldn't Be! So! Angry!"
- Conversed:
- "Ugh! Whenever female characters do that to their loved ones, this makes me feel that this is the first step to bitchdom."
- "Heh! Whenever female characters do that to their loved ones, it is the first round of Ship Tease. Next is the After Action Patch Up."
- Implied:
- Danny gulps when Mike tells him that Summer is asking to see him.
- Danny mentions Summer being mad at him, but we don't see or hear what she said or did to him.
- Deconstructed: Summer was angry at Danny's recklessness, so angry that it overshadows her relief at his wellbeing. Thus, Danny misunderstands why she's angry and what could be a happy scene is instead one of dysfunction.
- Reconstructed: Summer makes sure that her relief and happiness at Danny's wellbeing is most prominent when she scolds him for the dangerous thin he did, and tries to restrain her anger to a point where Danny realizes how upset/worried she was and no further.
- Played for Laughs: Danny adds "get chewed out by Summer" to his to-do list, right after waking up, going to school, and saving the world from certain doom.
- Played for Drama: When Danny comes back exhausted and bruised, Summer exacerbates the strain by snapping at him for his "recklessness". This causes Danny to snap at her for adding to his trouble. Thus it becomes a strain on their relationship despite its source being genuine concern for the other's wellbeing.
- Plotted a Good Waste: Though well-meaning, this sort of behavior is abrasive and easy to look at as Summer being a bad fit for Danny. This feeds into An Aesop about acknowledging peoples' Hidden Depths ... anger aside, Danny and Summer are a happy couple.
