Funny / Villainess Level 99

    In General
  • The premise itself. A reincarnated villainess gets distracted from her goal of surviving the events of the otome game she's reincarnated in by the thrill of leveling up in real life. So distracted, in fact, that by the time the otome game is set to begin, she's reached Level 99 without realizing it.
  • Yumiella is quite a strange person. Some of it is excused by the fact she's a modern-day Gamer Chick in a medieval-era romance game that wasn't taught the common sense or social skills of this world, but there are other times where she's just plain weird. She loves to ramble about her method of efficiently leveling up to everyone (without realizing how insane she sounds to the people of this world), collects strange collectables that you would find in an RPG (for no purpose other than to have them), and misunderstands social cues to the point where she ends up doing more harm than good.

    Anime/Volume 1 (Light Novel)
  • Episode 1:
    • The first half of the episode acts out like an anime adaptation of an otome game, complete with its own theme song.
    • How the adaptation ends: Alicia meets Yumiella, who greets her friendly... But Alicia can only see a swirling mass of darkness with red shining eyes.
    • Yumiella finds out that the school measures everyone's levels during the opening ceremony. She starts to sweat when the highest level measured before her was a Level 10; if she can take on boss monsters without much sweat, then she has to be higher than that.
    • Everyone's reaction to Yumiella being Level 99 is shock and horror, while Yumiella's basically amounts to "well, shit, I messed up."
  • Episode 2:
    • Each of the love interests get a taste of their own medicine when they try to challenge Yumiella's Level 99 status.
      • William attempts to duel Yumiella with swords. Despite having never used one before, Yumiella wallops him before sending him flying into unconsciousness.
      • She then melts a target that the class was supposed to hit as part of their magic test. Oswald gets so upset he runs from the class in near tears.
      • Threatened with expulsion from Edwin and the headmaster, Yumiella is asked to show the true extent of her magic. She does so...by creating a black hole in the sky. The magnitude of which sends Edwin to his knees and screams like a little girl when Yumiella approaches him afterwards.
  • Episode 3:
    • Yumiella quickly rejects the queen's offer to marry Prince Edwin. It's the first time her voice has any sense of emotion behind it.
    • A student from the radical faction tries to get Yumiella to marry him by making a grand speech about how they'll take over the continent with her brawn and his brains. She notes that he isn't one of the top students in the school, but he brushes that off. She then points out how his declaration is basically him declaring a revolt to the royal family, and that insurrectionists are put to death if caught. That scares the student off while begging her not to tell anyone.
    • Eleonora seems like she's going to intimidate Yumiella into joining her faction. She ends up being a girly airhead who only wants her not get married to Prince Edwin. Even her gaggle of friends look exhausted as they listen to Eleonora's speech about how wonderful Prince Edwin is.
  • Episode 4:
    • Upon being confronted by Alicia and her harem over being the Demon Lord, Yumiella sees an opportunity to go on her rant about how to effectively level up. The result is everyone calling her insane over her tactics.
    • The reason Alicia's so scared of Yumiella is because she can't see Yumiella properly. When asked to clarify what she means, she draws a picture of a black, formless fog with white eyes. That's how she perceives Yumiella.
      • Yumiella herself realizes that animals must also see her the same way, comparing Alicia's face with a cat she had tried to pet earlier.
    • After exhausting her classmates by using a demon-summoning horn to help Level Grinding them, Patrick asks her to warn them before using it again...but fails to clarify she should ask permission from the teachers, so she ends up blowing it multiple times in a row as the episode ends.
  • Episode 5:
    • Yumiella has an Aside Glance at the camera when she wonders if she could regenerate a head with her healing powers.
    • While Yumiella waits on the sideline during the second field lesson, she passes time playing Rock–Paper–Scissors with a shadow hand she makes from her bind attack. Yumiella loses both times.
    • Yumiella gets frustrated with the slow leveling of her classmates and their carelessness, and in lieu of the flute offers to just injure them and heal them to get them to take the training more seriously. When she's not confident enough for the class's liking that she can do it non-lethally, they take the flute option.
  • Episode 6:
    • Yumiella decides to enter the Martial Arts Tournament, despite the fact that she is way more powerful than the other contestants. Her reason for doing so? The prize is a dark magic enhancement amulet, a prize that no one else but Yumiella would utilize.
      • Turns out there's a reason for that: the principal lured her in so that she could demonstrate her powers to the visiting nobles, which he regrets when she casually says that if anyone else had won it they may have become a victim of robbery.
      Yumiella: It's tough being popular.
    • When Yumiella faces her first opponent, what is on her mind is to hold it back, since the Tournament is known to be a chance for students intending for a military career to demonstrate their skills to potential employers. But the opponent withdraws after the Razor Wind coming out from her trying to check out her sword. All her matches before the one with William end up the same way, with the opponents quickly withdrawing.
Patrick: "Uh, maybe don't do your "best," though. "Good Enough" is good enough! In fact, do your best to hold back!"
    • Yumiella’s sword nearly breaks when clashing with William’s comically gigantic sword. Breaking their sword disqualifies a contestant from the match, so Yumiella quickly punches William’s sword into pieces before hers breaks. William is too shocked to even speak properly.
      • Yumiella thinks no one saw her punch William's sword, but unbeknownst to her, Captain Adolf was watching and looked exasperated over it. In the manga and light novels, Patrick also saw it and scolded Yumiella over it after the tournament.
    • When it's her turn, Yumiella sees Patrick standing above the rest of the crowd at a distance. Yumiella smiles as she silently promises to do her best. It only makes Patrick back away farther, since he knows what "her best" entails.
    • Yumiella uses her Black Hole spell at full strength, which for a moment sucks away the clouds in the sky and allows the sun to shine brightly in a beautiful display. Then the mini typhoon starts. Yumiella forgot about that part.
      • She's given 300 points for her spell, out of 100. Oswald, who had just gotten a perfect score before Yumiella's turn, is visibly confused.
    • When Yumiella wins the tournament, Ronald asks if the amulet is necessary for her. Yumiella's offended that no one can see its value, but when she asks Patrick about it...
Patrick: Do you really even need that amulet?
Yumiella: (glows menacingly) Maybe I should show him how much stronger this amulet makes my dark magic, right here and now.
  • Episode 7:
    • To catch the person responsible for stealing Alicia's belongings, Yumiella decides to go on a stakeout. Said stakeout takes place on the ceiling. The culprit is jumpscared by Yumiella when she calls out to her and then falls down from the ceiling to confront her.
      Culprit: P-please don't kill me!
Yumiella: (to herself) I'm forever asking myself... just what do people think I am?
(A wooden sign pops up labelled "Demon Lord")
    • Eleonora starts following Yumiella around. While the former is just happy to find someone who will be honest with her, Yumiella has no clue why she's following her everywhere and becomes frightened of her.
    • When another man asks Yumiella for a dance, she quickly brushes him off by claiming she'll only marry someone stronger than her. Poor Patrick's face as he takes it in...
  • Episode 8:
    • Patrick returns to school, happy to meet with Yumiella for the first time in a while. He sees her in the distance…carrying a large black egg in her arms. He, and the new first years, are equally stunned and confused.
    • Yumiella declares the egg is her child, both as a joke and because it's metaphorically true, only for a panicked Patrick to ask who the father is. Yumiella can only wonder if he actually thinks she laid an egg.
    • Alicia spots Yumiella with the dragon egg... And sees both of them as masses of blackness, one humanoid and one draconic.
Alicia: Now there's two of them!
    • Yumiella and Patrick watching the dragon egg hatch. She squeezes Patrick’s shoulder so hard he starts to go blue, while she’s too excited to notice his pain. They look like parents cheering their kid’s first soccer game.
    • Yumiella "housebreaking" Ryu while Patrick and Rita look in horror as the dragon breathes poisonous fumes and fires laser beams from his eyes.
Yumiella: Maybe Patrick and Rita just don't care much for animals.
    • Yumiella has no clue why everyone (besides Eleonora) is afraid of Ryu. After all, he’s an adorable, sweet, enormous black dragon that definitely doesn’t look dangerous! She even tells Ryu to play with the other students, who all promptly run in terror from the cheerfully roaring abomination.
    • Ryu’s tendency to chomp on the heads of people he likes. First Patrick (who naturally freaks out), then Eleonora (who proclaims that she’ll certainly gain Prince Edwin’s affections after surviving being eaten alive by a dragon). Yumiella is jealously watching the entire time.
Yumiella: I wish he'd do that to me, too!
      • Unique for the anime: Edwin comes over to yell at Yumiella about Ryu, but he, too, gets chomped on by Ryu.
    • Yumiella tries flying on Ryu for the first time. It doesn’t go well, as she falls off immediately. To avoid death and destruction as a result of crashing into a populated area, she ends up propelling herself with her black magic to the ground, only to realize she could’ve slowed down her fall with her magic instead. Cue gigantic explosion.
      • Patrick’s reaction is this mixed with Heartwarming; panicking, he scoops Yumiella into his arms and hurries to get her help from either the nurse's office or from Yumiella's dark magic. Except Yumiella's in his arms.
Patrick: I'll take you to the nurse's office!
Yumiella: Huh? Hang on. I can walk on my own.
Patrick: No, Yumiella's healing magic would be quicker! Where's Yumiella?!
      Yumiella: Patrick, I’m right here.
      Patrick: O-oh, right.
  • Episode 9
    • The meeting with Remlast's spy devolves into Linus complaining about the nobles from his country and how they have foisted more work onto him—he knows Yumiella's lack of desires means Remlast has little leverage to make her defeat. Yumiella can only give her sympathies.
    • At last, Yumiella has realized that her feelings for Patrick have grown into something more. And then she immediately talks herself out of it.
Yumiella: Let's say there was this girl attending a school somewhere that doesn't have many students, and she has no friends in her own grade. But around the start of her second year, she met a kind boy who would help her study and listen when she needed to talk... I think she'd be likely to mistake friendly love for romantic love. That's what I'm going through right now.
Patrick: What in the world are you talking about?
      • When Yumiella asks Patrick if he would like to be friends, he states that he thought they're already friends. The Bishie Sparkles around him combined with his good looks makes Yumiella realize that he was a perfect hottie this entire time.
    • Yumiella is asked by Eleonora to help her study for the make-up exam. When the former asks why latter's usual group can't help her instead, the latter says that she got the highest score out of all of them. Yumiella immediately sniffs out the truth:
Yumiella: (internally) That's a lie. They just didn't want her to feel bad.
      • How does Yumiella help Eleonora pass her make-up exam? By relating everything to Edwin and the royal family. Eleonora's stalker-levels of devotion to Edwin knows no bounds.
    • Yumiella has figured out why Patrick has been so busy lately... he's meeting with his (very violent) girlfriend!
      Patrick: No! That's wrong!
  • Episode 10
    • In the anime, Yumiella comforts Alicia over her unconscious acts by saying the following:
Yumiella: Besides, they say young people like you are unbalanced in both body and mind. I'm sure your unconscious actions will stop in time.
Alicia: Aren't you still young yourself, Miss Yumiella?
      Yumiella: (in shock) Oh, right!
    • In the anime, Alicia falls off of Ryu while flying on him with Yumiella. Several times.
    • Also, at the end of the episode, Ryu likes Alicia well enough now to give her one of his special head chomps.
    • Because she's been protected by Ed and the other harem boys during their training, Alicia's first time defending herself against monsters is when she's stuck with Yumiella in the dark dungeon. She ends up shooting light discs at the monsters with her eyes closed while screaming and crying the entire time.
    • Alicia falling for the dark dungeon's traps. Yumiella forgot to warn her about those...
    • In the light novels, Alicia becomes so traumatized in the dark dungeon that she begins muttering curses and survival mantras like a madman. Yumiella figures that Alicia will be alright after their time together...hopefully.
  • Episode 11
    • The various assassination attempts against Yumiella all end with the assassins terrified of her and her inability to die by conventional means.
    • Rita, Yumiella's maid, has been ordered by Count Dolkness to poison her mistress's tea. She put an entire bottle's worth of deadly poison in her cup (it only calls for two drops). Thanks to Yumiella's bottomless HP, however, the tea just tastes bad to her.
    • Yumiella finally meeting her parents. She gives them two options: give up their titles to her and go under house arrest, or die an honorable death. One minor display of her power is enough for her mother to faint and her father to give in instantly.
    • Yumiella and Patrick's decisive game of rock-paper-scissors. Because it's so dark, a normal person wouldn't be able to see the results. Yumiella can see that she won, but she claims she lost so Patrick can court her. She only remembers after their Big Damn Kiss that Patrick is now Level 60, so he also knew that he lost the game.
  • Episode 12
    • The Demon Lord instantly curb-stomping Alicia and the other three boys is funnier in the light novels, where Yumiella could see their defeat coming a mile away.
    • Yumiella urges the boys to help Alicia snap out of her plot-induced trance by proclaiming words of encourage to her. It's a tense but heartwarming moment, except for the fact that Yumiella leads it all in her usual deadpan voice.
      • Edwin is finally able to snap Alicia out of it by declaring his love for her. Oswald and William are furious over missing their chance.

    Volume 2 (Light Novel)
  • The revelation that Ronald the headmaster is Eleonora's older brother. Just the thought of these polar opposites being siblings is something to behold.
  • Yumiella is worshipped as a mountain god by the Dolkness County, a sight that confuses her as she had no clue why these villagers she just met are bowing to her.
  • Yumiella is asked to remove a boulder blocking the road to a village. Instead of using her magic to destroy it, she decides to throw it as far as she can. She only realizes that she put the village in danger after Patrick berates her for it, though luckily it landed just far enough away for no one to get hurt.
    • They later return to the village, only to find that the hole the boulder made filled with water and became a lake, turning the village into a popular vacation spot.
  • The light magic barrier protecting the Samonstic church is so powerful that Yumiella can't break it straight away. She's both upset and excited over having a real challenge for the first time in a long time and calls the barrier her "arch-nemesis".
  • The bard that Yumiella meets changes his song to a story that Yumiella remembered from her Chuunibyou days. It ends up being a hit, much to Yumiella's dismay.
  • Yumiella's climatic duel with Duke Hillrose sees the return of the light magic barrier, which shifts Yumiella's focus to trying to break it once more over confronting the duke. That, coupled with her usual strange comments destroys what little dramatic tension Duke Hillrose was going for.
    • The final way Yumiella ends the duke's suicidal quest? Her threatening to put Eleonora through her level-grinding training. He immediately drops his plans and calls her a monster. He's then promptly mauled by the very monsters he summoned to attack Yumiella.

    Volume 3 (Light Novel)
  • Samon turns out to be a Clingy Jealous Girl over Eleonora, who she values as a devout follower. Anytime she gets even the slightest bit upset, she unleashes a powerful light from her forehead which hurts every dark magic user unfortunately targeted.
  • The God of Evil decides to take "Kugelschreiber" as his name. Yumiella doesn't have to heart to admit that it means "ballpoint pen" in German and that she called one of her attacks that during her "Chuunibyou" days.
