Season One

General

  • Richter's completely coincidental meeting with his grandfather, Juste Belmont, is somber, but also has some funny moments.
    • The old man is inexplicably hostile to Richter from the start, buying him dinner and then demanding that he leave right away. Richter is nonplussed.
    • Then a vampire barges into the tavern and demands to see the 'old man', to which the entire tavern turns to look at him. Apparently, he told him that he would kill the vampire the next time he saw him in the town, which he does with ease.
    • The bartender's reaction to a vampire barging into his tavern? A resigned "Ah, fuck, another one," as he ducks behind his bar. Once Juste dispatches the vampire, the bartender peeks out of his hiding, realizes that Juste has split one of his tables in half, and asks Richter if he can pay for food by doing carpentry work for him.
    • Once the vampire is dead, everyone cheers and goes back to partying.
    • When Richter finally confronts him, he doesn't realize right away that Tera didn't tell him where to find his grandfather, and is frustrated that it was all a complete coincidence. Juste also keeps tripping over his words, and has to specify that he's not paying Tera hush money; he's just helping her own on his hunts.
    • He also complains that Richter should call him anything but 'Granddad'.

Episode 1: A Common Enemy in Evil
  • As the two walk off to try and strike a truce with the Abbot, Richter reminds Maria to not go showing off her abilities, especially around the church. He remarks that while he has a reputation and is accepted for his gifts, a teenage girl like her would cause them all to grab firewood and pitchforks.
  • Maria wonders why more vampires are starting to appear in their area. Richter jokingly says it may be due to the beans they eat. Gives their blood a nice smokey flavor.
    Maria: God, you're a wanker.
  • Richter and Maria mockingly reciting the Abott's words of "having spies everywhere".
    • While they pass by a pub, Maria tells Richter he can go have fun if he wants. Richter turns down the offer and says he'd rather go home. Maria points out it was just because her mom was cooking, which Richter doesn't deny.
  • Maria complains to her mother about the revolutionary meeting and asks why Richter comes if he's not interested in what she has to preach. He says, "It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on". Maria pauses for a beat before stabbing her plate, clearly wanting to throw it at Richter in annoyance.
    • Richter telling Maria and Tera he stays because he wants to look after them.
    Maria:... You're such a dick.
  • After saving their lives, Maria introduces Richter as the "ungrateful wanker".

     Episode 2: Horror Beyond Nightmares
  • Edouard trying very hard to help Annette hidden from her slave master but clearly a bit awkward after she showed him her magical capabilities.

Episode 4: Horrors Rising From The Earth
  • Despite the departure of Warren Ellis, the show still doesn't have that great an outlook on organized religion. In this case, the Abbot of Machecoul is responsible for making Night Creatures to support the vampires. Maria and her mother argue over how much sense this makes:
Maria: Though when you think about it, the Church in alliance with evil, we were stupid not to think of it before.
    Tera: But vampires, Maria?
Maria: If you look at the history of the Church, it'd be hardly surprising. (beat) Well, maybe a bit surprising.
  • The Night Creature version of Edouard starts singing from his cell, drawing the heroes to him. A nearby Drolta overhears it, and casually asks if all the Night Creatures can do that.
  • The Abbott stops Drolta from killing Maria, saying that killing children wasn't part of their agreement note . Drolta sees Annette trying to escape and asks if killing her is okay (it is).
  • Olrox casually tossing the Marquis' head around, and telling Drolta that he's "loving France".

     Episode 8: Devourer of Light
  • Mizrak makes an attempt to attack Sekhmet, only for Olrox, who had been watching over him the whole time to swoop in and get the two of them out of there. The way Olrox quickly came down has an energy of, "You are not dying a stupidly heroic death for these idiots!" Yeah Olrox, you clearly don't love the guy.
  • Richter fires a gigantic blast of magical flame point blank in Erzsebet's face...only for her to casually inhale it and give him an oddly non-threatening smile. Richter himself can't help but smile back before he's violently flung away.
  • At the end of the episode, Alucard kills Drolta and introduces himself as "Alucard, son of Dracula", causing Drolta's minions to flee in terror. Ricther, Maria, and Mizrak are staring at Alucard in Stunned Silence (Ricther later admits he thought Alucard was just a myth) ...and then Annette asks "Who's Dracula?", because a woman from the New World would naturally have no idea who a (officially) dead vampire from Europe killed over three centuries ago is.
