  • Richter watching his mother Julia die in her fight against Olrox when he was just a boy and it partly being his fault as he did not listen to his mother when she told him to get to the ship and attempted to assist her, which caused Julia to be distracted and it got her killed by Olrox's hand. When he hears Olrox's voice again, he has a complete PTSD meltdown.
  • Edouard’s fate, and Annette’s subsequent attempt to help him.
    • Her reaction to leaving him behind is no slouch too, and neither was her reaction to finding out his fate. Annette's VA managed to make a very convincing performance of a gut-wrenching sob.
  • The reason why Olrox killed Julia Belmont. She killed someone he loved, and what's worse, was that his lover was fighting for a cause where vampires and humans can coexist peacefully. No wonder why Olrox was pissed.
  • Emmanuel‘s fall from grace, and the resulting breakdown of his relationship with the mother of his child.
    • During the final episode, upon realizing that Bathory wants to turn Maria, a panicking Tera, who lost her sister to a similar fate, outright screams at Emmanuel to help defend their daughter and sic his Night Creatures on the vampires. Despite being horrified by what Bathory wants to do to Maria the Abbott cannot bring himself to try and stop it. What really sells the tragedy is Maria's reaction to seeing this, with her bitterly remarking that there's no point talking to him. In the previous episode she was willing to try and save her fathers life - talk him into changing course but after he tried to sacrifice her and faced with his inability to take action all that's left is exhausted bitterness and contempt.
    • After seeing Tera sacrifice herself to A Fate Worse Than Death so Maria can be spared Emmanuel is seemingly inspired to regain some spark of the good man Tera fell in love with and furiously demands that Richter-Maria be allowed to leave on the basis of his alliance with the Vampires and them needing his night creatures. It comes to nothing as Drolta laughs in his face and mockingly points out that with so many of the Night Creatures dead to the heroes he has no leverage. The Abbott was a better man once and even when he tries to regain that he's in to deep with monsters for what sparks of decency he retains to matter.
  • The ending of Season 1, which is a nigh complete victory for the villains. Because the heroes fail to stop Bathory from bringing about endless night, they fail to send the forging machine back to hell, they fail to rescue Edouard, and Tera sacrifices herself to become a vampire under Bathory's thrall. The only thing stopping the ending from being completely bleak is Alucard arriving to save the group and join the fight to find a way to stop Bathory once and for all.
    • Maria will not take it well once she finds out that her mother sacrificed herself for her sake - she will have to redefine what "fighting evil" really means, as she contemplates the possibility of killing her if she can't save her like Edouard.
    • On top of that, Tera will soon learn the tragic irony of being turned into a vampire, given that she staked her own vampire sister all those years ago.
    • While he has no one to blame but himself, Abbott Emmanuel is left utterly broken by watching the woman he loves be turned into a vampire to save their daughter, whom he was trying to sacrifice out of desperation.
