    Episode 1 - Aang
  • Our introduction to Aang: Using his mastery of airbending, he glides down from the towers without even using his glider staff, to the oohs and aahs of the crowd. Gyatso just rolls his eyes.
    Gyatso: Show off.
  • Sokka is introduced marching back and forth like a general and lecturing some unseen listeners about things they could be doing better to defend the village, before a Reveal Shot shows that his audience is made up of mostly bored tweens and younger teenagers.
  • After Aang is captured by Prince Zuko, Katara and Sokka both agree to go after him. When Katara suggests they take Appa:
Sokka: Katara, no! There's no way you're getting me on that—
[Smash Cut to Katara riding Appa with Sokka screaming in terror on the back]
  • A more somber example given the context, but seeing Zuko angrily scribbling a drawing of Aang's face.

    Episode 2 - Warriors
  • When they capture the trio, Suki scoffs at the idea of Aang being the Avatar, saying if that were true there would be a sign. Cue the giant statue beaming lights from its eyes right on Aang.
  • Iroh gives Zuko a heartfelt speech about how to work with people instead of against them... and then interrupts himself because he spotted some sticky rice. Zuko's confusion, brief realization, then flatly exasperated expression says it all.
Zuko: Uncle, we don't have time for this!
    • Prior to this, Iroh invites Zuko to try some food that he claims is delicious... except Iroh really has no idea what said food actually is, and has to ask the man selling it whilst not-so-convincingly pretending to already know.
  • Aang showing off his iconic Air Scooter, and accidentally slamming into a nearby statue, straight out of the cartoon's opening.
  • Sokka and Suki's training scene, which is chock-full of endearingly awkward Ship Tease.
  • Suki keeps getting the drop on Sokka while appearing out of seemingly thin air, much to his annoyance. He tells her she needs a bell so she'd stop scaring him.

    Episode 3 - Omashu

  • Jet mentions that outsiders are typically regarded with suspicion in Omashu, only for Aang to cheerfully (and obliviously) ask "What makes you think we're outsiders?", as if he wasn't wearing bright orange and yellow clothing. Beside him, Sokka and Katara silently look down at their own blue, obviously-Water Tribe clothing.
    Jet: (*beat*) No reason.
  • Jet flirting with Katara is repeatedly interrupted by Sokka groaning. Jet gets his revenge by telling the guards that his "brother-in-law" is mute.
  • Mai and Ty Lee's introduction. Ty Lee cheerily asks Azula if she had any fun on her mission (reminder: this mission ended with a dozen people set on fire), and Mai dully summarizes Azula's current political situation.
Azula: Darling "Zuzu" just wants to come back and take everything I've worked so hard for.
Mai: To be fair, he is the heir to the Fire Lord.
    Azula: (glares)
Mai: Which, obviously, he doesn't deserve.
  • When Zuko attacks Aang in Omashu, they are briefly interrupted when a random woman gets between them and starts smacking Zuko for attacking a young boy.
    • Shortly thereafter, their fight transitions over to a mass of hanging fabrics, causing both of them to get tangled up.
  • During the fight, Zuko has been hit in the face three times: the first time with a clay plate, the second time with a basket, and the third time with his own pole.
  • What causes Zuko to completely lose it and expose himself as a firebender? Realizing that Aang was the one who stole his diary when Aang lets out that he knows about the three-year search.
  • Ladies and gentlemen, the live action debut of the Cabbage Merchant (and by his original voice actor to boot!). Complete with Skyward Scream of his iconic line. All together now:
    MY CABBAGEEEEEES!

Episode 4 - Into the Dark
  • Aang is amazed to see the Earthbender King is his old friend Bumi, wondering how the guy is still alive after a hundred years. Bumi chalks it up to cleaning living, a good diet, and "lots of luck, not sure if good or bad."
  • How Sokka and Katara find their way through the secret tunnels of Omashu; the hippies, who even in this remake are exactly like they were the first time around. And what are they doing hanging out in the tunnels? Taking advantage of the acoustics, man.
    • When Sokka and Katara approach the hippies, they invite Sokka to join in their singing and dancing. He does so, awkwardly at first but then actually getting into it, and as he does Katara gives him a look of "what are you doing right now?", and when it stops Sokka looks embarrassed and tries to act like he hadn't just done that.
    • The hippies once again sing "Secret Tunnel". Then, once they're done...
      Chong: (cheerfully) They're doomed.
  • Before Aang leaves, Bumi wants him to do one more thing with him: ride down the conveyor carts like the old times. They end up crashing in a huge dust cloud, because they hit the only thing the Spirits would allow:

    Episode 5 - Spirited Away

  • Iroh and Zuko enter a small village alone; Iroh warns him not to cause trouble.
Zuko: When have I ever caused trouble? [walks off]
Iroh: [stares after him for a full ten seconds before responding] When, indeed.
  • Zuko is still trying to keep news of the Avatar quiet, so he asks about the rumors of waterbenders. The barman says he hasn't heard of any waterbenders—oh, except for the ones traveling with the Avatar! Turns out everyone in town knows.
  • June's total non-response to Zuko, in full petulant teenager mode, and her mistaking Iroh for Zuko's father. (In a sense, she's not completely wrong).
June: I'll let it pass because your dad's kind of cute.
    Iroh: [blanches]
  • Sokka freaking out in the Spirit World.
Sokka: Is that a frog, or a frog-thing?!
    • Even funnier, as The Legend of Korra demonstrated Sokka is right to be worried about tiny frogs.
  • It doesn't take long for Sokka to go from terrified of the Spirit World to completely exasperated with it. Every time something new happens, he just mutters "Spirit World..."

    Episode 6 - Masks
  • June flirting at Iroh. And the fact Iroh seems somewhere between confused and alarmed at this.
  • June's ironclad logic for trusting Iroh has given her the full payment for services rendered. Not, as Iroh believes, because if they stiff her she can easily track them down and kill them...
June: It's because you're so cute!
  • When Aang meets Roku, his predecessor scolds him for not showing respect to an elder Avatar, which consists of bowing, averting his eyes, and hopping on one foot. It's at this point that Aang calls him out on the joke, which he laughingly says he couldn't resist.
    • Roku's impersonation of Kyoshi. It's so utterly unlike original Roku, never mind the idea of another Avatar talking smack about their predecessor.
Roku: Kyoshi's always been a bit... (assumes a stiff posture and wobbles around)
  • After being captured by Zhao, Aang spitefully blows a blast of air at the Admiral, knocking him off his feet. Not only does Zhao's scribe fail to hide his amusement, but Zhao soon after has to order the scribe to not put that action on the record.
Zhao: What are you doing? Don't write that down!
  • Zhao's speech of triumph to his soldiers is full of Large Ham.
  • This Noodle Incident conversation between two Fire Nation soldiers:
Sentry: Gonna be some night, huh?
Soldier: Let's hope there's less firespitting than Ahn's birthday.
Sentry: My eyebrows only just grew back.
  • Zhao notices something is off about Aang's cell just after telling his scribe to substitute a word in his transcription of his speech. After the two of them enter the cell to discover that Aang has escaped, the scribe double checks about the word substitution.
  • During a conversation with Zuko, Aang randomly admits that he used to nap during the meditation sessions, which actually makes the Fire Prince crack a smile in amusement.
    • The fact that he starts the conversation by asking what kind of brushes Zuko use for his calligraphy. Zuko is clearly bewildered by the fact that the boy he has designated as his mortal enemy is casually asking him about something so mundane as if it's a perfectly normal topic for them to chat about.
  • While Zuko is away, Iroh reveals to the crew that Zuko once saved all their lives. As a result, Zuko returns to them giving him a proper military welcome after having a much less respectful attitude towards him up to that point. Iroh's quick cover story for their change in attitude is that the crew probably just missed having Zuko present during music night.

    Episode 7 - The North

  • Sokka can't stop staring at Yue, which Katara finds unnerving.
Sokka: Have we met her before?
Katara: ...no. Now quit it before they think something's wrong with you. More than there already is.
    Sokka: [vaguely offended]
  • Zhao claims that his lack of any military record means he has no failures to his name, so obviously he's the perfect choice to finally defeat the North. Iroh is clearly trying very hard not to facepalm.
  • Sokka tells Yue that she's an "ordinary girl," and then keeps backtracking on whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, while she just smirks.
Sokka: I... I think I should stop saying words now.
  • When Iroh tries to get more details from Zhao about the attack, all Zhao will say is that "destiny" is on his side. Iroh cannot get him to understand that maybe a full-frontal assault against one of the greatest fortified cities in the world might not be a good idea.
  • Iroh presses Zuko on his plan.
Zuko: The plan? The plan is to prove my father wasn't wrong trusting me with this mission. The plan is to go in and capture the Avatar once and for all! The plan is to reclaim what's rightfully MINE!
    [Beat]
    Iroh: So no plan?
Zuko: [sheepishly] I'm working on it, Uncle...
    • Also the way Zuko's tone shifts in this exchange. He starts off angrily ranting, but when he admits he has no plan, he sounds just like any other embarrassed teen.
  • Katara challenges Master Pakku to a fight, and Pakku refuses. Katara gets him to fight her by smacking him on the back of the head with a water whip, much as she did in the original series.

    Episode 8 - Legends

  • Sokka is the only member of the Gaang with engineering knowledge, so he goes to the engine room to disable the Fire Nation ship. Which he does... by bashing the controls with his club.
  • Katara asks how many ships are left. Cue hundreds pouring out of the mist.
