Only You is a 2018 drama film directed by Harry Wootliff, starring Laia Costa and Josh O'Connor.

Elena (Costa) is a 35-year-old single woman. She meets Jake (O'Connor) by chance on New Year's eve. Jake is only 25 years old. Elena does not tell him his real age at first. When their relationship becomes more serious and Jake moves to Elena's flat, she tells him the truth. The age gap is not a problem for Jake. Some time later, Jake suggests Elena to conceive a baby.

Only You provides examples of:

  • Age-Gap Romance: A major plot point is that Elena is ten years older than Jake.
  • Break-Up/Make-Up Scenario: Elena breaks up with Jake when her second IVF fails. Then she realizes that she cannot live without him. In the end, they make up.
  • Dark Reprise: On the night when Elena and Jake meet, Jake listens to Elvis Costello's song I Want You. Later, when Elena's second IVF fails, he listens to it again, just before Elena breaks up with him.
  • A Date with Rosie Palms: Jake has to masturbate at the hospital to provide sperm for the IVF.
  • Law of Inverse Fertility: Elena and Jake want to have a baby and they cannot, no matter how hard they try.
  • Meet Cute: Elena is drunk when she meets Jake. Both are hailing a cab. A cab stops in front of Jake. Elena pretends that the cab driver stopped because he saw her, but the cab driver says that he only saw Jake.

  • Missing Mom: Jake's mother died when he was a child.
  • New Year Has Come: The film starts at a New Year's eve party. Elena meets Jake that night.
  • Pregnancy Test Plot: Elena takes a pregnancy test several times. The test is always negative.
  • Shoutout:
    • To The Graduate. Jake calls Elena "Mrs Robinson" and he asks her if she is trying to seduce him.
    • To Beauty and the Beast. A friend introduces his new pregnant girlfriend to Elena. He tells her they are like Beauty and the Beast. He jokingly adds that he is Beauty and she is the Beast.
  • Wedding Ring Removal: Jake gives Elena a ring that belonged to his mother. This is not a wedding ring, but this is a symbol of Jake and Elena's love. Elena removes it when her second IVF fails, just before she breaks up with Jake.
