Stealthy Stories Forum II
  • Recommended by: sanzano
  • Comments: This is a forum dedicated solely to TMNT Fanfiction. Each year it hosts the annual fanfiction competition, where people nominates the best fanfiction they have read over the year in the many categories it provides and vote for their favorite. It's been running for more than a decade but recent changes and the fact that the forum has moved from server and the lack of a backup have made the list of past winners before 2013 to be lost. There is an attempt to recover them here. It still worths checking out, some of the winners held that position for something.

Picked A Bad Time to Get Lost, Friend by Gremlin_In_Blue
  • Recommended by: WakeyWakey
  • Crossover: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Status: Incomplete.
  • Synopsis: So what if Hueso's is the best place for Leo to go when he wants to vent? Pops is so being a pain, especially now that he's all buddy-buddy with Draxum. It's not like Leo expected to run into any other customers at so late an hour!
  • Comment: A sweet first meeting between the 2012 and the 2018 characters, where Leonardo is a precocious younger brother who unknowingly gushes about his family to the sterner 2012 counterparts, and Raph is the protective older brother looking after his family and trying to rein in his more disruptive siblings.

Royal Purple by SunniMit

  • Crossover: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987), and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Donatello knew his brothers weren’t geniuses and he had no desire to make them smart once again. Therefore, if he wanted to interact with another genius, to speak to someone who understood him wholeheartedly, he decided the best course to do so is by finally venturing to meet his alternate dimensional selfs. “It's not kidnapping!” “Donnie, bro, it is totally kidnapping. You kidnapped yourself.”
  • Comment: Hilarious story where the Donatello from the 2018 cartoon decides to bring his counterparts from 1987, 2003 and 2012 to his universe. Of course, the Donatellos are not the only ones who get involved in all the hijinks.

Frayed Knots by renawaywithme

  • Crossover: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Status: Complete.
  • Synopsis: Leo thought he and Donnie had the situation under control. It was just a little portal, a fun experiment, but then said experiment attempted to kill the 'disaster twins' so maybe he was just a teeny bit overconfident in their skills. However, when the portal spits out four turtles- four turtles who seem rougher, older, more worn down- Leo starts to regret ever using the katanas as pizza cutters. Clearly they did not appreciate his treatment of them and decided to make his life as hard as possible by dumping four emotional damaged turtles into his hands.
  • Comment: Probably one of the most heartbreaking crossovers between the 2012 and 2018 series, where the 2012 turtles are clearly traumatized and falling apart, and the 2018 turtles are resentful of how their older counterparts are causing friction. Part One is complete, Part Two is ongoing.

The Adventures of an Alternate Dimension by Anti_Social_Headphones_Kid
  • Recommended by: WakeyWakey
  • Crossover: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Status: Incomplete.
  • Synopsis: Just a light-hearted crossover fic of 2012 and 2018, because it's what my soul craved...
  • Comment: As per the synopsis, in which the 2018 characters land in the 2012 world, where Splinter is hugged, April causes chaos, and the turtles are not far behind.

Rotten Reflections by Nicoforlife
  • Recommended by: WakeyWakey
  • Crossover: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: When strange movement in a pharmacy catch's Casey's eye one night, no one could have known the stress, panic and confusion the next few months would bring. A turtle not in their right mind ends up in an unknown place with even more unknown threats lurking around every corner, with a hurt little one there's nothing he can do but what his mind screams: Protect his bale, at any cost
  • Comment: Most versions of the turtles were accidentally mutated, but not those from the 2018 series. The 2012 turtles meet a new mutant, feral and deadly.

Nonspecific Adaptation Fanfic Recommendations

These are fanfics that do not take place in a specific adaptation of the Turtles or the author takes elements of multiple adaptations to create their own world. This is not to be confused with Intra-Franchise Crossover fanfics for they specifically take place in two or more adaptations.
Surface Pressure TMNT by TheKeybladeMaster1994
  • Recommended by: Huldra
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: What if Mikey saw Encanto and realized something about his very own family?
  • Comment: This is a great story. Mikey sees some very disturbing parallels between his family and the Madrigals, and he's determined to make things right.

He's Like by Creatureofthedark
  • Recommended by: Charmed
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Each turtle expresses how they view a particular brother, and Splinter reviews the bond between his sons.
  • Comments: An interesting but touching take on how the family views each other. Love the elemental references

Heroes And Friends by Mikell
  • Recommended by: Ironic Mouse
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When the boys are transported to the Real World, our world, they find themselves separated, alone and confused. A chance meeting will bring them together again, to face a danger none of them could have guessed at, from an unexpected source. Can four teenage heroes help heal the hearts of a teenage boy and his mother? Can two families, one from each dimension, be saved? What does it take to be a real hero?
  • Comments: Something of note in this story. A lot of people have played the "characters find out about their fandom" for laughs, but Mikell is the first author I've seen to play it for drama. After all, how would you feel if you found people had written Slash Fics about you and your brothers?

The Bartering Room by kay_cricketed
  • Recommended by: Lyra_Dhani
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The first time his brother dies, Leonardo has a body whole and strong to barter. In which the universe gives Leonardo exactly what he needs to protect his brothers, and it is the beginning of the end for them all.
  • Comment: A chilling fic featuring self-sacrifice that doesn't end well

That Time of the Month by Diva Danielle
  • Recommended by Penguin 123
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Every Father's worst nightmare, how do four Anthropomorphic Male Turtles deal with THAT time of the month
  • Comments: Not much to say other then this oneshot is funny as shell actually trying to think how the Boys would react to a PMS-ing teenage girl, not really a shipping fic because while it's clear Raph has a daughter there is no mention of who or where the Mom is

Left Behind by Sewer Slider
  • Recommended by: Charmed
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Told from Raph's P.O.V. After all four turtles are captured, Leonardo has to choose which three go free and who remains with their captor...
  • Comments: A short piece but it drives the loyalty between the brothers home well in the end.

Nonspecific Adaptation Crossover Fanfic Recommendations

Fanfics that are the same as the above but also cross over into media outside of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.
Spider-Ninja by inkravens45
  • Recommended by: dragonwing7
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: Spider-Man
    • The story uses the basic Spider-Man origin story, but with a new character (and the death of Aunt May). Due to the welding of Spider-Man canon and TMNT, some Spider-Man characters/locations are referenced (i.e. OsCorp) while Fury and Coulson play an important part in the story.
    • The fic welds several TMNT continuities together. It mainly uses the characterizations and locations from the 2003 series, but it uses the same origin story for Splinter as the 1987 series, and April is a journalist/reporter, much like she was in the films and first series.
  • Synopsis: In a distant part of the Spiderverse, young Petra Parker is orphaned at four. She's taken in by the stern but kind Master Splinter, and raised alongside his four sons. One day, when she's fourteen, she's bitten by a strange spider. She mutates, developing spider powers. Together, she and her brothers try to fight crime while avoiding detection...especially from SHIELD and a certain eyepatch-wearing man...

    General Fics
Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Paradigm by Rena Roo

  • Recommended by: Lyra_Dhani
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Mike ventures to the farm to visit Leonardo and reflects on the preceding events. He realizes that the true story rests in how they learned to perceive one another. First Place for Best Tragedy/Angst & Sad Ending, Second for Leonardo Scene in 2009 Comps
  • Comment: Sad doesn't even begin to cover the feels of this fic. A tragic fic depicting what would have happened if their issues with one another (Mikey and Leo especially) led to the worst possible result.

Flicker by Rena Roo
  • Recommended by: Lyra_Dhani
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Dimmer, dimmer the candle flickers. It fights to stay alive and others can only watch. They hold their breaths so as to not blow on it for nothing is more tragic than an extinguished flame…
  • Comment: From the same author who made paradigm above. It's a sick!Donnie fic.

The Shadow by Connie Nevegas

  • Recommended by: Lyra_Dhani
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Leo inadvertently strikes a bargain with a mysterious being and must find a way to stop it before it claims one of his brothers.
  • Comment: In which Leo just wanted to do the right thing but his brothers, Mikey especially, are the ones who pay the price.

The Boogeyman by starry-oblivion

  • Recommended by Lyra_Dhani
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: Marvel
  • Synopsis: Marvelverse crossover Spider-Man receives reports of a sighting of a giant turtle in a mysterious new Halloween store and checks it out. This leads him into a complicated mess involving missing turtles, evil spirits and, of course, the end of the world.
  • Comment: A rare good crossover fic that manage to mesh both world well together. Everyone's also in-character. Written from Spidey's POV, which mean it's witty and hilarious. It's a sequel to A Thing for Redheads where Spidey and the Turtles meet for the first time and is also worth a read.

Quiet by Fight_AS_One
  • Recommended by Lyra_Dhani
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: A Quiet Place
  • Synopsis: They could hear your breath if it was too frantic, your feet if you ran too fast, and your fingers when they brushed against the edges of houses and branches of bushes to keep you steady. We weren't ready for them. Bite your tongue. Choke back a scream. Lay still. Try to survive. And whatever you do, stay quiet. Sometimes, you don't realize what you have until you lost it.
  • Comment: Crossover AU in which the boys are human, Raph has issues, Leo is deaf, Mikey is literally a baby, and I can't say enough how much I love this

Shellshocked by Stephen R Sobotka
  • Recommended by mockingjay
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: Gargoyles
  • Synopsis: A Gargoyles New TMNT crossover. A certain villain has need of Splinter, and when faced with the loss of their sensei, the four turtle teens go hunting...for GARGOYLES!
  • Comment: One of my favorite crossovers for either series. The plot device of the turtles going after the Wyvern Clan after Demona abducts Splinter might seem a little cliched, but Stephen makes it work.

An Unexpected Honor by Scribeof Heroes
  • Recommended by Lyra_Dhani
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover with: Usagi Yojimbou
  • Synopsis: It was the beginning, and perhaps the end, of a beautiful friendship.

Gargoyles X TMNT: Shadows of New York by SageWilde
  • Recommended by: PJ Sam
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Crossover with: Gargoyles
  • Synopsis: Taking place shortly after the 2001 destruction of the Twin Towers, the still recently awakened Gargoyles are still adjusting to this new modern world they've found themselves in. One night, the still unnamed Trio decide they want to watch a football game in person. Elsewhere in the city, a certain red clad mutant ninja turtle also decides he wants to catch a football game in person, and he didn't bother telling anyone else in his family that he was going out...

  • Comments: A unique crossover between the TMNT and Gargoyles, this story features an original interpretation of the TMNT cast, drawing inspiration and influence from multiple incarnations of the turtles. The Gargoyles cast are mostly the same except instead of awakening in 1994 they awoke in 2001. The author has an excellent grasp of the characters and is heavily committed to keeping the story historically grounded.
