Nijipocalypse is a Zombie Apocalypse AU Fic conceptualized by Luca Kaneshiro and Shu Yamino of Nijisanji EN during the post-stream of their playthrough of The Complex: Found Footage on Luca's channel
. What started as the two of them pondering what the members of their wave Luxiem would do during a zombie outbreak ended up escalating into an improvised fanfic framed as a hypothetical TV series featuring every member of Niji EN up to the then-recently debuted ILUNA spanning over two hours' worth of content that far outweighed the amount of actual gameplay.
This fanfic contains the following tropes:
- Anachronic Order: Since the story started as off-the-cuff "What If" scenarios, the way Luca and Shu tell the story starts off as this before becoming more linear as they continue.
- Anyone Can Die: Comes with the territory of being a zombie apocalypse story. By the end of the stream, the final death toll consists of Nina, Elira, Pomu, Yugo, Fulgur, Finana, and Ike.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: Finana and Ike end up teaming up together to seek revenge on the others after the former was left behind at the abandoned grocery store and the latter was exiled for plotting against Vox.
- Break the Cutie:
- Luca starts off as the friendly, cheerful guy we all know him to be before gradually getting more and more jaded as time goes on, becoming far more willing to kill if he feels the situation calls for it.
- Between blaming herself for Reimu getting zombified and the death of her Big Brother Mentor Fulgur, Millie undergoes this hard.
- The Cameo: The only non-Niji streamer mentioned is iPN, who makes a brief appearance as the first zombie Selen encounters when she finally sets foot outside.
- Dead Fic: Luca and Shu expressed their desire at the end of the stream to continue Nijipocalypse in the future, but as of the creation of this page one year later, a Part 2 has not yet materialized.
- Despair Event Horizon: This is the state the team finds Sonny in, having given up all hope after seeing all of his fellow VSF officers get massacred and zombified.
- Failed a Spot Check: Selen failed to notice the zombie apocalypse outside her door becuase she spent four "seasons" cooped up in her house while gaming. She only started to realize something was amiss when it started taking longer for her to find online matches on Apex Legends.Mysta: While you were playing Apex, I was playing Apex IRL!
- Heroic Sacrifice:
- Nina is the first of the named characters to die, sacrificing herself to save the rest of Ethyria, her "children".
- Both Yugo and Fulgur end up pulling this at once. Having been bitten and knowing that he doesn't have long to live, Yugo decides to do one last DJ set at an amusement park to draw the zombies to him and away from the others. While he is doing this, Fulgur activates his Self-Destruct Mechanism and rushes into the crowd of zombies to take them all down in a fiery explosion along with him and Yugo.
- Shu chooses to stay behind in Antarctica along with Reimu and Petra avoid exceeding the weight capacity of Ren's spaceship. In this case, however, he ends up surviving long enough to get kidnapped by Finana and be held as a hostage against Luca and the others once they return to Earth.
- I Will Wait for You: Shu tells this to Luca when he chooses to stay on Earth while the others go to the Moon.
- Motherly Side Plait: Nina is mentioned to have her hair worn like this which turns out to be a death flag, as she ends up sacrificing herself.
- The Nose Knows: This is one of Mysta's abilities, fitting his dog motif, and it helps him figure out that the zombies are deterred by mint and that the plants grown on the Moon are a perfect match to serve as a substitute for it.
- Sadistic Choice: While on the cruise ship, Luca is forced to make a decision on whether to give the zombie-curing vaccine to Shu or Ike, as both have been infected. Ike attempts to hasten Luca's decision by stabbing Shu, leading to Luca shooting Ike dead in self-defense and administering the cure to Shu before getting him medical attention for his wound.
- Secret Diary: Ike has one, which Alban ends up stealing, revealing his plans to overthrow Vox and become the new leader of the group.
- Space Base: The Iluna Institute is on the Moon along with the rest of Ren's wave.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The zombie outbreak started because someone got pricked by one of Rosemi's thorns and spread the infection. Nobody, not even Rosemi, is aware of this, leading to her inadvertently infecting more people, including Reimu and Ren.
