Fanfic / Lilys Adventures In Watership Down

Go To

Lily's Adventures in Watership Down is an ongoing fanfiction written by Gotham 317. It follows the same basic storyline of the 1999 TV show, but also has many elements from the book, movie and Netflix show, while the titular character, Lily, is an original creation. It is currently undergoing a rewrite by the author.

  • Adaptational Villainy: While Orchis was already a deplorable individual in the Netfix show, this version of him is an explicit rapist, having a lustful obsession with Lily, and is revealed in Chapter 31 to have raped Nettle at one point in the past.
  • All the Other Reindeer: In this version, Woundwort was initially the runt of his siblings, and was bullied by them as a result.
  • The Atoner: While never stated out-loud, it is heavily implied that part of the reason why Ragwort remains loyal to Woundwort despite being uncomfortable with how evil he has become, is to make up for bullying him when they were kittens.
  • Badass Adorable: Lily is very much this, being a very beautiful doe, and becoming a pretty brave, cunning and fierce fighter as the story goes on.
  • Big Brother Instinct: A female and non-biological example: Lily becomes something of a surrogate protective sister to Fiver, as she defends him from the group's continuous doubts about him during their journey, especially in Cowslip's Warren when she attacks Hazel for pushing Fiver down, and later stands up to Bigwig's aggressive behavior when he lashes out at Hazel.
    • Also, she and the entire group are fiercely protective of Pipkin.
  • Darker and Edgier: Downplayed, but still present. The canon works are already pretty dark, but this fanfic puts even more focus on Efrafan does being sex slaves.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Lily's farm home was burned down and her human owners killed by a mysterious rabbit resembling General Woundwort.
    • General Woundwort's tragic backstory is a combination of it's depictions in the book, the TV show and the Netflix show. He is born, the runt of a litter of five, in Darkhaven to Laurel and Hemlock, but then they are driven out by humans and forced to settle in a new warren. While raiding a garden, Woundwort and his family are attacked by a pair of foxes which scar and blind Woundwort's left eye, and kill every rabbit except for Woundwort, Laurel, and Woundwort's brother Ragwort. The three rabbits are then attacked by a weasel which kills Laurel, but is shot and killed by a human before it can kill Woundwort and Ragwort too. The human then takes the two young bucks in and raises them, but is unable to prevent his mischievous cat from menacing them. Eventually, Woundwort breaks them out, nearly kills the cat and leads them to Efrafa.
  • Dark Is Evil: Played straight with Woundwort and Vervain, who are very dark grey furred rabbits.
    • Averted with the Black Rabbit of Inle, who, despite being jet black like her namesake, is not evil at all, but only doing her natural job of taking the spirits of dying creatures to the afterlife.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Orchis spends quite a lot of time fixating on Lily. In chapter 37, Lily takes advantage of Orchis's lust for her by luring him away while her friends play a trick on Vervain.
  • The Dreaded: The Black Rabbit of Inle is feared by all rabbits.
  • Entitled to Have You: Orchis feels this way about Lily, regarding her as his and his alone, and even calling Bigwig the one who "stole" her from him.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Woundwort and his brother, Ragwort, genuinely care for each other. Also, Woundwort grows to genuinely care for Pipkin and Aurbetia.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Though he is loyal to his brother, Ragwort clearly doesn't like what Woundwort has become.
  • I Got Bigger: Woundwort was initially the runt of his siblings, but grew up to become the biggest rabbit in the story.
  • Official Couple: Lily and Bigwig eventually become one.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Partly thanks to Bigwig's training, Lily grows from a timid, scared former hutch rabbit to a bold, fierce fighter who fights and defeats an owl all by herself.
  • Villainous Crush: Orchis has a huge one on Lily.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Some unknown rabbit killed Henry, Lily's innocent young human owner.
