Sonic.exe: Friends Forever is a take on Sonic.exe, starring a child named Cecelia possessing a game CD for Sonic 1 after her death. An unnamed protagonist and his girlfriend Visi play this game, with one of them not knowing the horrors inside.
Tropes that apply to several characters or to the series:
- A God Am I: Ocelia still has this mindset, though in less of a sense than her original counterpart.
- Played straight with Cecelia post-remake, as she tells "Lia" that she will give "her" all the force of a god.
- Affably Evil: Ocelia, despite brutally murdering her former friends, allows them to live safely inside the CD and only kills them within the game due to Power Incontinence.
- Averted with her post-remake counterpart; she is intentionally trying to harm her victims due to mistaking them for Lia.
- Ambiguous Gender Identity: Just about everyone whose gender identity in life are not the same as the characters they possess.
- Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Saki and Ocelia quarrel a lot, but when the time is needed they work together and help each other. This is the reason Saki's vessel is Knuckles.
- Dead All Along: Downplayed with Visi. While her soul is within the game, she lives freely outside of it without it. However, the trade-off is that she cannot feel emotion without coming within 10 feet of the CD.
- Decomposite Character: The old version of Cecelia was adapted into a new character called Ocelia.
- Driven to Suicide: Ashlee was shown to have been this when she jumps off the school building. This, along with her being her best friend, is why Ocelia made her become Tails due to him being able to fly.
- Eye Scream: Ocelia plucked out Sonata's eyes after her death. Funnily enough, Sonata possesses Cream, the only character that still has eyes by the end of the original Sally.exe.
- Fangirl: Ocelia is this to Sonic.
- Hulking Out: Downplayed. Ocelia and Cecelia's eyes simply match those seen in their Sonic.exe forms when they ge angry as opposed to them transforming completely.
- Involuntary Shapeshifting: People trapped in the game (excluding Cecelia) are unable to choose when they glitch into and out of their character forms.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Mike ends up being this when he attempts to save Saki, his best friend, from her murderous sister.
- Jerkass: Mike is shown to be this to Cecelia when they were alive, causing her to put him into the role of Robotnik.
- As of the remake, whoever Lia (assuming that's her real name) pushed Cecelia into the shattering building, and it's implied that they didn't think it would kill her.
- Meaningful Name: Sonata and Reed are a musical duo that began from a talent show. Guess which role they each play in the mini-band.
- On a more serious note, Visi is named as such due to the word "visible". Both the CD's world (as her soul is inside of Silver) and the real world are visible to her.
- In the remaster, Lia, the person who Cecelia assumes killed her, lied about the latter's death, making her a liar.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: Ocelia is able to glitch into her Sonic.exe form at will, unlike the others.
