She moved to England at the age of 17 to learn how to speak better English. Following her film debut, Stensgaard made small appearances in other films including Zeta One, Some Girls Do, If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium, Carry On Again Doctor, Scream and Scream Again, and Doctor in Trouble.

She also had a slightly bigger role as Helga in the first series of Doctor in the House and auditioned for the role of Jo Grant in Doctor Who.

In 1971, she starred in Lust for a Vampire, taking over for an absent Ingrid Pitt. This would go on to become Stensgaard's most famous role and cemented her as a Hammer Horror icon. The following year, she gave up acting and moved to America, where she worked at a radio station.
