Shatterstar is a 2018 miniseries by Marvel Comics, written by Tim Seeley with art by Carlos Villa and Gerardo Sandoval.

Shatterstar, also known as Gaveedra-Seven or Ben Gaveedra, was an interdimensional warrior from the Mojoverse. He was literally bred for battle, but after years of fighting for Mojo and then for X-Force, he's decided to retire. Now, he runs a boarding house called Manor Crossing for people who have become refugees from other realities, just like him.

When one of his tenants is killed and the rest kidnapped by the Mojoverse assassin called Gringrave, however, Shatterstar realizes that his past has come back to haunt him. It's time to go back to the arena. It's time to save his tenants.

It's time to kill.

Shatterstar provides examples of:

  • Alternate Species Counterpart: Pug-Smasher is Flag-Smasher as a pug instead of a human.
  • Animal Superheroes: One of the tenants of Manor Crossing is Karl Snortenthau, also known as Pug-Smasher. Yes, that's right: he's a pug-version of Flag-Smasher. Although a bit more heroic than the regular Flag-Smasher, considering he was fighting against Thanhorse when he found himself on Earth-616.
  • Attacking Through Yourself: Shatterstar stabs Gringrave through his own body in order to kill her.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Rictor and Shatterstar have broken up, but even though Rictor told Shatterstar to leave him alone, when he finds out what's happening and where Shatterstar is, he immediately goes to help him.
  • Big Bad: The person pulling the strings this time isn't Mojo, it's the Grandmaster.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The Grandmaster appears to do this, as when issue two begins, he tells the people of Horus IV, "Welcome to Shatterstar. Episode two."
  • Call-Back: The Grandmaster is still running his Contest of Champions, only this time he's pulled in people from the Mojoverse, like Gringrave and Shatterstar, to fight.
  • Love Makes You Crazy: Gringrave loves Shatterstar. That's why she wants him to never leave, so they can fight together forever. Unfortunately for her, he doesn't reciprocate.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Old Dwayne Taylor, another tenant at Manor Crossing, shows up long enough so we learn his backstory, but then gets killed by the Death Sponsors. He does manage to take one of them out with him, though.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: This was another tenant's mission: the End Woman was sent to the past to kill the mutant demigod Sister Conflagration the Burning Nun, but instead found that the "demigod" was still a shy teenage girl named Gabbi Sotelo. So the End Woman became her friend and guide instead.
