Hollow is a 2022 mystery romance horror graphic novel created by Branden Boyer-White, Shannon Watters, and Berenice Nelle, based on the story by Washington Irving and published . Set in the modern Sleepy Hollow town, which is made infamous from the legend, Isabela “Izzy” Crane meets town royalty Vicky Van Tassel, town royalty who shows to be smothered by her ancestor’s legacy, and the two grow smitten with one another. However, when Izzy is met with the infamous Headless Horseman in which they work together to stop a ancient curse on the Van Tassel family.
Hollow shows examples of:
- Adaptational Heroism: The Headless Horseman is portrayed as a helper towards the town, frequently attempting to save The Van Tassel family for generations.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: While Brom Bones in the original story may or may not have killed Ichabod Crane, it’s made clear that Brom Bones was completely innocent.
- Ambiguous Situation: It’s left up in the air if Izzy is actually related to Ichabod Crane. However, given her dislike towards the Legend, it’s unlikely.
- Ancient Evil: Tenebrous turns out to be an ancient ghost wanting power who’s been fighting the Van Tassel family for generations.
- Big Good: The Headless Horseman has protected Vicky through out her childhood from Tenebrous.
- Decomposite Character: The Headless Horseman, apparently the Pumpkin Head is simply a mouthpiece used for the actual Headless Horseman.
- Familial Foe: Mort Tenebrous is the main enemy of the Van Tassel family, attempting to have them killed
- Flat Character: Despite being the main villain, Tenebrous has little in the terms of character despite being a petty and vengeful ancient soul attempting to settle a grudge against the Van Tassel family.
- Hereditary Curse: The Van Tassel Family had this where the first born dies in a supposed accident. Turns out this is simply by Mort Tenebrous.
- Lipstick Lesbian: Vicky Van Tassel shows to be more feminine than her girlfriend Izzy.
- Lovable Jock: Croc Brun shows to be a friendly and energetic Jock.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: Mort Tenebrous was in the spirit realm before accidentally being released by the time Katrina and Brom Bones were married.
- Would Hurt a Child: Mort shows no qualms to murder the children in the Van Tassel family.
