     Stephen Bonnet

Stephen Bonnet

The main antagonist from Drums of Autumn to A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
  • Big Bad: He is the main antagonist of the books Drums of Autumn, The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

     William Buccleigh MacKenzie

William Buccleigh MacKenzie

Son of the witch Geillis Duncan and Dougal MacKenzie.
  • Action Dad: He accompanies Roger to 1739 to search for Roger's son Jem.
  • The Atoner: He seeks to atone (in part) for what he did to Roger by helping Roger search for his son Jem in the 18th century
  • Deadpan Snarker: Very much so.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: During the battle at Alamance Buck sees Roger MacKenzie kiss his wife; to revenge himself on him he ties him up and sets him up to be hanged as a rebel leader. It's not surprising that Roger still has trouble forgiving him years later for it.
  • Family Eye Resemblance: He has the same green eyes as his mother Geillis and his descendant Roger.
  • Happily Adopted: By a MacKenzie couple in Inverness, unbeknownst to him.
  • Happily Married: To Morag.
  • Hot-Blooded: Is definitely this.
  • I Am Who?: Buck gets the shock of his life when Roger tells him that he is really the son of Geillis Duncan and Dougal MacKenzie and that he (and Jem and Amanda) is his descendant.
  • In the Blood: Being Geillis Duncan's son, he has inherited the time-travelling trait. He discovers this by accident, when he disappears through the stones at Craigh na Dun from his own time while walking on the hill there.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Buck is reluctant to return to Morag in his own time because, by his own words, he felt that she would be far happier without him in her life.
  • Jerkass: What he appears to be at first.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Though he acts like a jerk a lot of the time, there are times when it's clear that he's not a completely horrible person. He regrets causing the hanging which injured Roger and apologises to him for it.
  • Marry for Love: What he tried to do with Morag. It didn't work as well as he hoped it would.
  • Pride: Has a lot of this. It's largely his pride along with his jealousy that causes him to turn Roger in to be hanged after seeing Roger kiss his wife. More specifically, seeing his wife defend the man who was seen kissing her.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: He bears a strong resemblance to Dougal MacKenzie (his biological father) and has inherited Geillis Duncan's green eyes. Roger also shares some traits with Buck.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: At the end of MOBY he is nowhere to be seen when Bree and the family reunite with Jamie and Claire on Fraser's Ridge. Theories abound among fans as to whether he returned to his own time, remained in 1739 Inverness or was killed trying to time travel.
