The protagonist of the movie. A 12-year-old boy who's afraid of the sea.

  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: He has that thick brown eyebrow to accompany his brown hair.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Acts like a real jerk towards Saoirse. Fortunately, however, he gets better.
  • Character Development: He starts out as a cowardly, timid kid who's been bullied a lot and try his best to make his dad proud of him to the point where he risks his life to dive into the stormy sea to save the one who helped him since the day his journey from fear of water and knowing full well he can't swim.
  • Defrosting Ice King: He lets go of his obsession with the book to save Fresia, his dad, and the entire island.
  • Guilt Complex: After Kalku stole the book, he blames no one but himself for not only stealing it in the first place, but also for letting Kalku kidnap his dad.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: He called Ruende, a wolf, a dog, and he allied with him to defeat Kalku.
  • Jerkass Realization: After seeing what really happened to Levisterio, He ultimately realizes how much of a jerk he was to Fresia.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Ever since he grab the Levisterio, he was being cruel and selfish to Fresia after the book was stolen by Trauco the defrosting begins.
  • Momma's Boy: When he drink the soup made by Trauco, he finally meet up with his late mother one last time, and after he got rescued from the growing waters surrounding him, she manage to save him and told her son she's so proud of her after what we've come so far.
  • Daddys Boy: Since's his mom's death, he always want to make his father proud as like part of the family.
  • Little "No": The moment he said to Chon-Chon.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: There are some moment that Nahuel blame himself and begged for forgiveness. when he and Ruende were inside's Trauco's home, he blame himself, instead of stealing the book in the first place
  • Took a Level in Badass: While he didn't fight Calfunao and Rorro, he has some bad-ass moments, not once, but twice. After his father got thrown away at the top of the tower, he grabs Kalku away from the book to avoiding the Cai-Cai, a monster, being manipulated from the dark magic. and the second time as Fresia falls down, he finally getting over his fear of water in order to save his best friend's life..
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: This happens to Nahuel after the book was stolen and he's accused Trauco and thanks to his obsession to the book to get his strength back, he left them behind to find the man who stole the book. Fortunately, this doesn't last, and then he...
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Nahuel has this happen after experiencing some life-or-death situations with friends and his father, realizing how much he actually loves them deep down and that it was wrong to blame them for his fear of the sea.
  • The Unfavorite: He didn't realize that his father, Antonio, doesn't love him because he's always late, he's timid to get the eggs and he's absent in school.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Nahuel developed a fear of water since the day he was born and the same place when Consuelo, her mom, died. When Fresia was fallen from Kalku's tower, he has a chance to overcomes his fear.

    Antonio

Nahuel's father who is still in mourning over his wife's death.


  • Disappeared Dad: He loses faith in his parenting abilities and allows his aunt to take care of him.
  • The Eeyore: He became this once Antonio left.
  • Happily Married: Had an open and loving marriage with Consuelo.
  • Heroic Build: Has the biggest build of the main characters and is a definite good guy.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: With Consuelo.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: He realizes his mistake to his mistreatment to his son once he saw his wife's locket the same way he give it to her
  • Nice Guy: Even with his faults, Antonio is a truly good person.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Although he does it with the intention of protecting his son and is unaware of the consequences of doing so, leaving this island with your loved one and abandoning his friends will cause Kalku to took control the monstrous Cai-Cai.
  • Papa Wolf: Despite that he would do anything for him. Either using a flare stick to let the crows away from attacking, fighting back the sorcerer on a dark tower, or even grab that can holds, including grabbing your son .
  • Parental Abandonment: A passive one in his case. He loses faith in his parenting abilities and allows his aunt to take his of the boy.
  • Parents as People: Though distant, he does try to work hard and still loves Nahuel. However, his grief over Consuelo's disappearance makes him emotionally unavailable for his children much of the time, and he starts to believe in his inadequacies as a father to the point of letting his mother take his children away.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Antonio is a taller, muscular version of Nahuel.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: After seeing his late wife again on his locket as a reminder, Antonio was able to move on from his grief to love and care Nahuel, the same way he did to Consuelo, his late wife. After that, he starts expressing a happier attitude.
