     Andre 'Junior' Johnson

  • Biggus Dickus: Junior lands himself on The D List, a gossipy Cal U list made by the women on campus on which guy is the biggest and is good at sex.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Zaara is the first queer person in his friend space, and he overcompensates, making her believe he just looks for a clichĂ© lesbian best fiend.
  • It's All About Me: Andre tries this approach in a test for a sorority, thinking he needs to prove himself and carry all the other aspirants through the night. He grows out of it in the end, realizing they are better together.
  • Momma's Boy: Andre still loves his mom dearly, even picking out a sorority with other momma boys.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Just like Dre in Blackish and Zoey in Grownish, Andre will directly address the audience to explain his inner thoughts and surroundings.
  • Meaningful Rename: Junior comes into his own towards the end of the 5th seasons and decides to go by "Andre".
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Averted. He does have a phone, but he doesn't care much about the culture around it and questions his friends' dependence on it.

  • Amicable Exes: Or more like amicable one-night stand. She hooks up with Andre at a party, but after both learned their siblings were a couple, all affection dies immediately.
  • Malcolm Xerox: She is an activist, believing in being aggressive about it.

  • The Ditz: Doesn't know basic things like how to use a microwave or that not only white people can get STDs.
  • Lethally Stupid: Puts tin foil in a microwave, setting the lounge on fire while all his friends are in the room.
  • Lovable Jock: Is playing football for a scholarship and is the easiest going guy of the gang.

     Slick

  • Functional Addict: Is usually on drugs, but manages to stay sharp enough to dish out advice ... at least during the day. At night, all bets are off that she knows there she is.
  • Lipstick Lesbian: Is a lesbian and even has pink colored eyelashes.
  • Lower-Class Lout: Pretends to be this, but is actually from a small town and changed her name, personality, and outfit for college.
  • Put on a Bus: Slick doesn't appear at all in the second half of season 5, while the actress was dealing with treatments for cancer.

     Aaron Jackson

  • Amicable Exes: With Zoey. More like amicable former love interest, though.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: With Zoey.
  • Like Parent, Like Spouse: To his love interest Zoey. Like her father Andre, Aaron is also outspoken about politics and the unity of the black community. Even if he can be bumbling sometimes, like Andre they're both style conscious and mean well, both valuing hard work and somehow giving back to the community.
  • Nice Guy: Genuinely very sweet. Cares for his friends, is respectful towards his love interests, and takes rejection fairly well.
  • Soapbox Sadie: A male example of the Malcom Xerox variety.

     Doug Edwards

Played by: Diggy Simmons
  • Amicable Exes: Averted by the end of season 2 with Jazz after the incident in "Workin' Me", where Jazz uses sexual exposure on social media to revamp her image.Played straight by the end of season 3, after Jazz's one-night stand during their break and Doug being unable to move past it. They get better, though.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: He studied advertisement, but decided to be a barkeeper until he finds something more suitable for himself.
