Fiona
The only surviving child of Lord Bemin of Fort Hold, and rider of gold Talenth.- All-Loving Hero: Fiona has a surprisingly large capacity to love.
- Been There, Shaped History: Fiona, T'mar, the weyrlings and injured riders time it ten years back to Igen Weyr so that they can recuperate from Threadfall and build up their numbers. During that time Fiona happens to be a driving force behind the founding of the Plain Wherhold and Nuella's becoming Whermaster there, and also Nuella and Zenor's wedding.
- Forgets to Eat: During her pregnancy, Fiona becomes so forgetful and preoccupied with the dragon-shortage issue that arises following the dragon-plague, that she has to be reminded to rest and eat.
- Heroic Sacrifice: After being caught in the time knot, Fiona jumps from Talenth into the emptiness of between to allow Talenth, her children and Jirana a chance to break free and return to Kindan and Lorana.
- Mama Bear: Will do anything to protect her children, and even jumps into between to save them from the time knot.
- Missing Mom: Her mother died during the plague that hit Pern when Fiona was a baby.
- Plucky Girl: She never gives up, not even when others have. In Dragon's Time, for a majority of the story she is the only one who believes that Lorana has not gone between forever and is in fact on a mission to save Pern. Even Kindan, the man who is famous for never giving up, doesn't believe her.
- Psychic Link: with Lorana and her dragon, Talenth.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: After becoming Weyrwoman and coming into her own. She may be bossy, proud and hot-blooded at times, but she is also cheerful and fair to others. She is respected and liked as a good Weyrwoman.
- Starting a New Life: First when she impresses Talenth and moves to Fort Weyr to train as a dragonrider, then when she and others go back in time to Igen, then much later after their return when she and the Igen riders go to Telgar to rebuild that Weyr after the demise of D'gan and all the dragonriders and dragons in Telgar Weyr.
Terin
A young precocious girl who has a surprising gift in organisation and managing a Weyr. She is Fiona's Headwoman during their stay in the past at Igen Weyr.- Psychic Link: Has one with her gold dragon.
Lorana
An ex-Weyrwoman, and rider of gold Arith, before Arith's death. She plays an important role in curing the dragon-sickness and replenishing Pern's dragon numbers to prevent humanity from dying out due to Threadfall.- Convenient Miscarriage: She loses her unborn child when she travels between into the future for more than three counts.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Her mother and siblings all died from the plague when she was little. She also became sick but did not die.
- Gone to the Future: In Dragon's Time Lorana leaps between over fifty years into the future to try and get help for Pern from the dragonriders there. It doesn't go how she expects it to.
- The Medic: Lorana is known as a healer for both humans, dragons and animals.
- Nice Girl: She is very kind and welcoming to strangers and even to people who are not being so nice toward her. In Dragonsblood, though Tullea is acting like a Jerkass toward her Lorana still is reasonably nice toward her.
- Plucky Girl: She never seems to give up while trying to find a cure for the dragon-sickness and later when the Weyrs are searching for a way to replenish their dragon numbers quickly so that they can fight Thread and protect Pern.
- Pregnant Badass: She is quite a few months pregnant when she figures out how to save B'nik from his fate and travels to Benden Weyr to enact her plan.
- Psychic Link: With Fiona. Also with her gold dragon Arith, before Arith's death.
- Starting a New Life: Firstly when Lorana's father dies and she is found and taken in by J'trel, who helps her be safe in the wilderness while she draws and catalogs known and unknown species of wild animals. Then later, she takes a ship which is lost in a storm, and is shipwrecked and eventually found and taken in by Benden Weyr, where she Impresses gold Arith. Still later, she and Kindan settle in Telgar Weyr to help Fiona and her dragonriders.
Tannaz
A Weyrwoman under Cisca. She is of trader blood and sister to Tenniz. She goes between forever during the dragon plague, along with most of Fort Weyr's ill dragons and their riders, after her dragon contracts and is dying of the sickness.Bekka
A young, energetic girl who rarely sleeps. She is taken under Fiona's wing and is trained to be a healer.- The Medic: Bekka becomes a journeyman healer in Dragon's Time; before then, although she was an apprentice, she was in charge of all the after-Threadfall injuries sustained and also general illnesses and wounds that occur in Telgar Weyr.
- Plucky Girl: Is seen to never give up on a patient.
- Starting a New Life: Goes with Fiona, her father and the Igen riders to Telgar to rebuild that Weyr.
Jeila
A Weyrwoman, rides gold Tolarth. Mate to H'nez.- Convenient Miscarriage: She loses her unborn child after a bad fall from a ledge in Telgar Weyr.
- Heroic BSoD: Goes into a depression after losing her unborn baby.
- Starting a New Life: Chooses to leave High Reaches and settle at Telgar with H'nez.
Sonia
Senior Weyrwoman of High Reaches. Mate of D'vin.- Reasonable Authority Figure: Is seen and respected as a fair leader.
Tullea
Senior Weyrwoman of Benden after Breth's death. Mate of B'nik.- Been There, Shaped History: Spends three years in High Reaches helping the Weyr build up their forces to help fight against the effects of the dragon plague.
- Mood-Swinger: Is renowned to be very intemperate at the best of times, but this goes up to extreme levels in Dragonsblood when she is in two times at once as a result of having timed it three years back to High Reaches Weyr (and spent the next three years there).
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Is respected and valued as a competent Weyrwoman, despite her often irascible personality and aforementioned mood-swings.
Salina
Senior Weyrwoman of Benden before Breth's death. Mate of M'tal.- Cool Old Lady: She is very kind and helpful toward Lorana.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Is seen and respected as a fair leader.
Dalia
Senior Weyrwoman of Ista.- Reasonable Authority Figure: Is seen and respected as a fair leader.
Third Pass Other Dragonriders
T'mar
An experienced dragonrider of Fort Weyr, initially. Becomes Weyrleader of Igen Weyr during the Weyrlings' stay in the past and later of Telgar Weyr before D'gan is freed from the time-knot and returns to take it away from him. He is the mate of Fiona and Shaneese.- Near-Death Experience: Receives a life-threatening head injury in Dragongirl and remains in a coma for part of the novel.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Becomes the new Weyrleader of Telgar Weyr in Dragongirl, though after D'gan eventually returns he is shoved aside. Before then he was the unofficial Weyrleader during the Fort Weyrlings' timed stay at Igen Weyr.
F'jian
A young Weyrling who Fiona befriends during her stay in Fort Weyr and later in Igen Weyr. He falls in love with Terin and becomes her life-mate. He is killed during Threadfall in Dragon's Time.- Heroic Sacrifice: Sacrifices himself to save T'mar's life during Threadfall.
K'tan/Ketan
A dragonrider of Benden who also functions as a healer. He loses his dragon to the dragon-sickness. Later he sacrifices his life to save M'tal, T'mar and B'nik from being killed in Threadfall.- Dark and Troubled Past: His dragon died from the dragon-sickness, resulting in K'tan's Heroic BSoD.
- Heroic BSoD: Completely succumbs to grief and despair after his dragon goes between because of the dragon-sickness.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Sacrifices himself to save B'nik and M'tal from dying in Threadfall.
- The Medic: He is the Weyr Healer of Benden Weyr.
K'dan/Kindan
A Harper turned dragonrider. He is the protagonist of Dragon Kin and Dragonharper.- Second Love: With Lorana (and also later Fiona).
S'ban/Seban
Father of Bekka, loses his dragon to the dragon plague. Afterward he decides to train with Bekka as an apprentice (and later journeyman) healer.Xhinna
