The Cloaked Figures
A mysterious group of four men cloaked in rags. They are led by the Man with the Alien Arm.
- Badass Transplant: The Cloaked Leader has the left arm of an alien that is implied to be a replacement.
- Bizarre Alien Biology: The leader has the left arm of an alien.
- Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: They go directly to where God lives and the leader declares that he'll kill him.
- Eldritch Abomination: Whatever is attached to the Cloaked Leader's left arm!
- Kill the God: The plan of the Cloaked Leader.
- Mysterious Strangers: No names given, but most likely our protagonists far in the future.
- Nominal Hero: What the leader seems to be.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The figures are out for revenge against the God of the New World.
- Starts with Their Funeral: They're introduced burying two of their comrades and paying their respects.
The God of the New World
The foreshadowed main antagonist of Canticle. An unnamed god that rules over Earth in the year 2110. It is responsible for the forthcoming apocalypse that is set to happen in the future.
- Big Bad: The main antagonist of the entire series.
- God Is Evil: This god isn't really nice, considering that humanity seems to be enslaved or nearly destroyed while the Earth lies in ruins.
- Long Bus Trip: Introduced in the first chapter, but considering they won't arrive for another twelve years in the story, it's gonna take a while.
- Mysterious Stranger: An unnamed god lacking any pronouns whatsoever.
- Religion of Evil: Seems to have one that hunts down monsters.
