It was first released on December 27, 2007 in Korea, and is currently available in Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany, and North America. It is the spiritual successor to ''VideoGame/GrandChase''. ''Elsword'' has improved on systems ''Grand Chase'' had, along with more {{Animesque}} graphics and improved gameplay. Instead of making rooms like in ''Grand Chase'', you get to explore the whole world of ''Elsword'' (which is still a [[SideView side-scroller]] EliminationPlatformer). Like ''Grand Chase'', this game subverts the norm by giving players a few preset characters instead of having a character creator. The [[FighterMageThief first set of available characters]] includes Elsword, the hot-headed Swordsman; Rena, the cool and calm Archer; and Aisha, the arrogant Mage. They are all [[{{Expy}} expies]] to their respective counterparts from ''Grand Chase'' - Elesis, Lire and Arme. Other characters include Raven, a war-veteran {{Cyborg}}; Eve, a RobotGirl, Chung, a young prince with an [[{{BFG}} oversized cannon]], Ara, a spear-wielding martial artist, Elesis, Elsword's sister who returns from Grand Chase, Add, a time traveler hellbent on capturing Eve, Lu/Ciel, the [[{{Action Duo}} duo]] formed by the [[{{Cute Monster Girl}} small]] but [[{{Demon Lords and Archdevils}} powerful demon]] Lu and her [[{{Battle Butler}} bodyguard and often mistaken as butler]] Ciel, Rose, a female gunner from a collaboration with ''Videogame/DungeonFighterOnline'', Ain, a being created by the goddess Ishmael and tasked with restoring the El, Laby, a mysterious girl who emerged from darkness to explore the world, and Noah, a boy reliving his past in an endless loop to find the truth behind his brother's murder.

* MarathonLevel: The Henir's Time and Space can be this, depending on how long you took out the bosses and/or whether you take the {{Bonus Boss}}es or not. On average, you'll complete the stage in around 20 minutes, while normal dungeons are completed in 4-5 minutes.

* AmazingTechnicolorBattlefield: the background fields of each Field BonusBoss fights is this, with the imagery of distorted space and time.

* BonusBoss: Currently there are seven of them, waiting for player at the end of secret dungeons. Alterasia Type-H gets special mention for being endlessly infuriating due to a fight essentially rigged against you.
** There's also Steel Watcher Eltrion, whose boss area can only be accessed from the Fields and is only open periodically. It's a gigantic RoBeast who has 99 bars of HP and devastating area-clearing attacks. Normally, the battle was rigged so that, even though the game allows 12 players to be in the fight at any given time, Eltrion would still be a MarathonBoss. Unfortunately this is hardly the case, as while the battle has a 12-minute time limit, and most people who are interested in Eltrion's drops normally have equipment strong enough to destroy him in 6~7 minutes. There have even been reports of the best players in the server getting matched together and killing him in less than 2 minutes.
** After an update, there's also Drabaki, a gigantic CreepyCentipedes that sometimes will appear in place of Eltrion.

* CraftedFromAnimals: The game has a lot of weapons and occasionally armors made/taken from the bosses' body. The Secret Dungeon [[BonusBoss Bonus Bosses]] in particular tend to either drop the special equipments themselves (rarely), or drop the materials you'd need to craft the equipment (more commonly).

* The Field BonusBoss is this up to eleven - they have 99 bars of health. Thankfully the game allows you to beat them with up to 12 players at once.

* TheDragonslayer: A title you can obtain by killing the BonusBoss Ancient Bone Dragon enough times.

* IncreasinglyLethalEnemy: The BonusBoss Alterasia Type-H is infamous for this. He's surrounded by constantly spawning Alterasia Spores which periodically heal him. Failing to stay on top of them can cause him to be healed constantly.

* InfinityPlusOneSword: The best weapon in the game, yet, is the weapon you can acquire from beating the Field BonusBoss that is very rarely dropped. It is of the highest grade (Unique), thus it has 4 socket slots (the most you can gain on a weapon), and also has the best stats. The only downside is that it doesn't have any SetBonus effect.

* MultipleLifeBars: Bosses can have lots of bars of health, especially the later ones. The Field BonusBoss has 99 bars!

** Played fully straight with encountering bosses in the fields, as well as encountering Field BonusBoss.

** A craftable item (with drops from Field BonusBoss as its ingredient) can give you an extra socket slot for your weapon/armors.

* DarkIsNotEvil: Aisha's Dark Mage class.
** Subverted into the further advancement into Void Princess though, she clearly shows signs of being Evil, especially after making a pact with the little bat-demon, Anger, and giving evil stares on most of her ending poses... She still works for the good guys, but the development clearly made her more evil.

* BoobsOfSteel: Rena. Especially so in the Wind Sneaker class advancement path.
** Ara's Sakra Devanam would count as she's rather curvy herself, and remarkably tough/fond of physical attacks. In fact she's the first girl character to have stronger physical attack stat (the girls before her emphasized their magical attack more). Exemplified in her Asura class, which dresses the most to show them off and is the most vicious and direct of her classes in terms of melee combat.
** Rose's Storm Trooper also counts, being the toughest among Rose's classes.
** To some extent, Dimension Witch and Grand Master (Aisha and Elesis' "physical" classes respectively) has their assets noticeably grow.

** There is a rat enemy species in the underground waterway called "[[MickeyMouse Micky]]". [[note]]With the word "mick" activating the ScunthorpeProblem, for some reason.[[/note]]

** In the AprilFoolsDay event, some of the genderbent characters are references to another shows: [[http://elwiki.net/w/File:MAraFull.png Ara]] to [[Film/ThreeHundred Leonidas]], [[http://elwiki.net/w/File:MElesis.png Elesis]] to [[Anime/KillLaKill Aikuro Mikisugi]] and [[http://elwiki.net/w/File:FAdd.png Add]] to [[LightNovel/{{Oreimo}} Saori Bajeena]].

** One of Mastermind's Dynamo Configuration modes uses the [[{{Portal2}} Aperture Laboratories]] logo.

* PopularityPower: The game appears to invert this as far as KR popularity in PvE as unpopular classes (often TierInducedScrappy reasons) get buffed and overly popular/overplayed characters get nerfed. This works to avert ComplacentGamingSyndrome for the most part though there have been some hiccups with it:

* BareYourMidriff: Void Princess, Aisha's job advancement from Dark Mage. Both Magic Knight and Rune Slayer, job advancements for Elsword, and Trapping Ranger, a job advancement for Rena. Over Taker, Raven's first job change on the Reckless Fist path. Also Rose's Tempest Burster form.

* BishounenLine: The third raid boss (excluding the event-exclusive Ted), Perkisas, hits this ''hard'' in the third phase, transforming from a hulking red dragon to a handsome man with horns, wings and [[BareYourMidriff a very short jacket]].

* FiveManBand: In the Hamel saga:
** BigBad: Ran
** TheDragon: Avalanche and [[DragonTheirFeet Helputt]]
** EvilGenius: Bizarre Conrad, a demon that somehow gets his hands on ancient Nasod tech.
** TheBrute: Victor (and how!), Bobosse, Magmanta
** DarkChick: Fallen Chloe
** MookLieutenant: Shadow Stinger, Giant Linker, Shadow Master
** SixthRanger: Coral Sea Serpent (they just happen to be in the way) and Taranvash (actually a good spirit, but it ran amok due to the demons' influence and you have to tame it down)

* SelfImposedChallenge:
** NoDamageRun: Either not taking hits at all, or just not dying. Some titles even require you to clear a certain (or more) dungeon(s) without taking too many hits.
** SoloCharacterRun: This is actually easier than it would seem. Some titles also require you to do this.
** SpeedRun: Arguably the most common challenge. [[RuleOfThree Some titles would require you to do this as well.]]
** There's also "no consumables run" mixed with NoDeathRun as part of the Challenge Mode of Henir's Time and Space dungeon. Though you can get recovery items from the stages themselves, and if you die, you'll be revived at its every checkpoint (which will heal you as well) - but if all of your party members are dead before reaching the checkpoint, it means you fail the challenge.

* ArmorPiercingSlap: The first thing Eve does upon being reactivated is slap Elsword in the face. It's also used as a move in one of Eve's combos - said slap turns the enemy's back against her, which makes it useful for shield-wielding enemies.

* {{Bishounen}}: Certain fancy costumes can definitely turn male characters to this. Overall, one of the best examples would be the Waltz of the Flowers costumes.

* EverythingTryingToKillYou

* {{Gainaxing}}: Rena, where even standing still will invoke movement of her assets. Other busty females like Ara and Rose do similarly.

* CoolPet: Available in the cash shop, comes in many varieties and special abilities.
** ActionPet: Their attacks are especially strong enough to deal heavy damage to enemies.
** PetInterface: In it, you can see the pet's affection and hunger levels and their behavior chart.
** PetMonstrosity: Some of them are actually mini versions of monsters such as Ancient Phoru or Berthe.

** The Sander region has Karis the [[HornyDevils Succubus Queen]], a demon who revives the EldritchAbomination Behemoth and was the one responsible for hypnotizing the Trocks.

* HornyDevils: They appear in later Sander stages as mobs, along with their leader, Queen Karis.

* ClassAndLevelSystem: Like in Grand Chase, it's not really "Classes" so much as "different characters"; unlike in Grand Chase, they can [[PrestigeClass partake in one of the three forms of specialty]] after gaining level 15 and perfected themselves at level 35, and their skill trees will also stack and continue on their own ways. Later updates introduced the Trancendence at level 70 which unlocks more skills, and finally the [[UptoEleven Third Jobs]] at level 99.

* The Field BonusBoss is this UpToEleven - they have 99 bars of health. Thankfully the game allows you to beat them with up to 12 players at once.

** There are reports of a party of Code Electra doing [[UpToEleven 2 thousand and above]] of those orbs.
*** Upon release, you could actually fuse "Thousand Stars" with "Sweep Rolling's" Spectrum, if you had Spectrum Mode activated, the three orbs of Thousand Stars would be then tripled again by the other spectrum, turning the 100 max stars in the original skill into [[UpToEleven 1200 Stars]], it should be noted that, unlike the above report, this could be done with a single Electra.

** Blade Master can potentially turn it [[UpToEleven up to eleven]] with Hypersonic Stab - more the number of targets it goes through, more the number of slashes per target. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDeDVPy08sE This technique can be used to defeat a notoriously difficult secret dungeon boss in one go.]]

** The Magic Wardrobe system takes it UpToEleven. With this you can conceal even the costumes themselves, and even accessories, with another. You have to set an equipment or a costume as a "wardrobe fodder" which then you can equip to turn the equipment and accessories' look to the one that you desired. Aside from nice cosmetic changes, players also do this to fool other players into thinking they're wearing weak equipment.

* MultipleLifeBars: Bosses can have lots of bars of health, especially the later ones. The Field BonusBoss takes this UpToEleven: it has 99 bars!

* PowerGlows: If you upgrade your weapon up to +5 and above, it will gleam multiple times. If you upgrade it [[UpToEleven up to +10 and above]], it will grow brightly.

* SuperSpeed: Oberon is capable of doing this in one of the active skills. But Raven as Sword Taker takes it UpToEleven by cutting everything up with one slash (depending on the number of enemies within the range).

* UpToEleven: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKH0x_K66SQ Hyper Actives]] are almost literally this, where the characters simply take their own powers UpToEleven and destroy any opposition.

* VendorTrash: One common target for this is the common Normal/Rare-level equipments (when they're not simply deleted), but even more fitting is the drops that you can only get by becoming a Treasure Hunter as your side job.

* PantyShot: The girls will occasionally flash their panties by action but Aisha and Lu are the greatest offenders. It doesn't help that the color and various other properties changes as she class changes into Elemental Master.

* MismatchedEyes: Ara as Little Specter and Asura has a pair, one red and one yellow, as part of a DualityMotif.
** There's also a purchasable item in Item Mall that can change your eyes into this.
** Minor case with Add, whose left pupil is white and glows while his right pupil is the normal black.
** Ain has a mysterious marking on his left eye in all jobs but Arme Thaumaturgy. It's implied that it's related to Henir, the god of darkness.

* AquaticMook: Numerous in Hamel dungeons.

* DamageOverTime: Many of of the StandardStatusEffects do this.

* AllTheWorldsAreAStage: The secret dungeons combine the elements of the stages of the respective normal dungeons, along with their mooks.

* RemixedLevel: the Burning Hope Bridge stage is exactly the Hope Bridge stage, but gets ruined and burnt down to the ground by demons.
* RepeatableQuest: There are many quests tagged as "repeatable" in all towns. They don't give you much, though, aside from a few consumables and a small amount of money.
