** Additionally, there's a long standing debate in the Final Fantasy series about revival magic and phoenix downs only being able to bring someone back from the brink of death, not death itself, and healing magic not working on fatal wounds. There's a notable example of the latter in VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV where an ally dies to a chest wound despite a healer desperately trying to save them. [[spoiler: Queen Brahne was simply too badly injured to be saved, it was a miracle she survived long enough to reconcile with Garnet.]]

* ParentalAbandonment: Zidane not only has no parents, but is phenotypically unique on Gaia (and in that game's verse, that's really saying something) and doesn't know anything about his origins. Garnet's an orphan who's been raised by Queen Brahne, who also dies part-way into the game. Vivi also is unique and unaware of his origins. Eiko is an orphan who lives alone in the ruins of her hometown... I think what we can take away from this is that Final Fantasy loves this trope.

Zidane not only was abandoned in Lindblum as a young child, where he was found and raised by Baku. He can't remember anything of his early life other than a 'strange blue light'. [[spoiler: Turns out he has no birth parents, but is phenotypically unique on Gaia (and in that game's verse, that's really saying something) as he was created as a weapon by Garland.]]
** Garnet loses her father shortly before the events of the game
and doesn't know anything about his origins. then her beloved mother turns on her when she realises the extent of Garnet's an orphan who's been true powers. [[spoiler: Not only does Queen Brahne die, whereupon she realises how wrong she was and begs Garnet for forgiveness, it's revealed that poor Garnet was actually adopted by the late King and Queen and that she lost her birth parents during Kuja's attack on Madain Sari, her mother dying while trying to get her to safety.]]
** Vivi isn't certain about his true origins but he was
raised by Queen Brahne, Quan, whom he referred to as his grandfather, who also sadly dies part-way into shortly before the game. story begins. [[spoiler: In a similar vein to Zidane, Vivi also is unique was created to be a weapon, and unaware of his origins. has no parents.]]
**
Eiko is an orphan who lives alone in the ruins of last surviving summoner living in Madain Sari, with her hometown... I think what we can take parents presumably having survived Kuja's attack long enough to give birth to Eiko before passing away from this is for unknown reasons. Notably she doesn't mention them, only her grandfather, suggesting that Final Fantasy loves this trope.they died when she was fairly young.

No Pronunciation Guide is now a disambig. Dewicking

* NoPronunciationGuide:
** Zidane's name comes from the French 'jitan', so it should be pronounced 'zid-an'. Essentially the same way as footballer Zinedine Zidane. Judging from the fandubs on [=YouTube=], a good portion of fans assumed it was 'zi-dayne'.
** Eiko usually gets 'ee-koh' or 'eye-koh' - sometimes even 'ei-ee-ko' (as in Aisha) - when it's 'ay-koh'.
** To a lesser extent, Garnet's name sometimes gets wrongly pronounced by putting emphasis on the second syllable (gar-''net'').
