* TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers: A few characters who show up over multiple ''Suikoden'' games will change Star assignments between games. Tomo, however, is the ''only'' character who can have different Star assignments within a ''single game'', because she will occupy the slot left vacant by either Valeria or Kasumi, whoever you didn't choose to recruit.

* SplitPersonality: She displays two distinct personality types, depending on whether she is on stage. Her actual personality is [[TheIngenue sweet, shy and modestly dressed]], but her alter ego (and look) is that of a BellyDancer. When she dances, she's confident, beautiful and sexy. Interestingly, she can be used to recruit Sigfried.

* TheArcher: Lives in the woods, wears a scarf and tunic, has a faithful dog companion, and uses a bow and arrows. A typical ranger type.

* TheArcher: She wields the Great Hawk Rune, which allows her to attack ''all'' enemy targets when used. The trade-off is that damage is halved. Additionally, her skills in archery are apparently good enough to become a general.

* BloodBrothers: With childhood best friend, Jowy.

* BlackSheep: Like Apple, he also trained under Mathiu and was his most promising student until he was cast out when his greed got the better of him.

* BlackSheep: He was excommunicated from Qlon temple by Fukien for his violent tendencies.

* TheCaligula: When the most murderous, cold-hearted, psychopathic member of an army is the royal prince in charge of it, you ''know'' you're in trouble.

* OneHitKill: The second spell of his Black Sword true rune, Twinkling Blade, has a decent chance (30%) of inflicting instant death. He also comes with the "Critical" war skill, which, if it triggers, will promptly destroy any opposing army. [[spoiler:He retains that skill as an enemy army leader, making it extremely dangerous to face him head-on.]]

* HappilyMarried: To Yoshino. She even joins the army to be with him. In response, [[spoiler: he refused a position in Dunan Republic in order to stay with Yoshino.]]

* OurPresidentsAreDifferent: [[spoiler:After awhile, the Dunan Republic is formed and she becomes the President after Shu's retirement. She is a President Personable type, as she is very much a wise and kind person while leading the nation, based on her experience in Greenhill. Before and after the Higheast Rebellion, she continued to maintain peace and prosperity in Dunan.]]

* YouAreInCommandNow: She had taken over as mayor of Greenhill from her ailing father, Alec, before the Highland Invasion. [[spoiler: After the war is over, she ended up becoming the leader of Dunan after Shu retiring from being a Chancelor]].

* FinalSpeech / {{Forgiveness}}: [[spoiler:After she is mortally wounded by Jowy, she apologizes to the Hero and Nanami for the state's treatment of their adoptive father, Genkaku, but once they confirm their happy childhood with him, [[PeacefulInDeath she dies peacefully.]]]]
* LookBehindYou: [[spoiler:When faced with Jowy's murderous intentions, she [[DissonantSerenity feigns acceptance]], but requests to finish her wine as a distraction, then leaps towards Jowy as he briefly turns away....[[AnyoneCanDie but too late to prevent him from mortally wounding her.]]]]

* TheStrategist: He orchestrates all of the Allied Army battle plans.

* NonActionGuy: Notable for being one of two male characters (the other being Marlowe) who serves absolutely no purpose in gameplay, whereas all the other ones at least offer some battle utility in one way or another. Even Jess, a government official just like him, can be used as a support character during war battles (and he provides quite good bonuses too).

* AmazonianBeauty: She's as strong as she looks too.

** If she's in your final party, and if you say that you have to stay to find Jowy when L'Renouille Castle starts to collapse, she'll tell you that it's her job to be your bodyguard and that her contract is binding, and she'll then start dragging you out of the throneroom.

* DrillSergeantNasty: He does NOT suffer idiocy or incompetence amongst his troops, and he was prepared at one point to horsewhip Fitcher for what he perceived to be cowardice/treason.
** If he goes through with it, Fitcher notes that Ridley was holding back however...

* HilarityEnsues: When recruiting him, bringing Miku=Miku or Sierra to him as a maiden has interesting results.

* HotForStudent: He has a crush on his young pupil, Lilly Pendragon, though this is deeply disturbing, as she is only 6 years old during the events depicted in ''Suikoden II''.

* VegetarianVampire: PlayedWith. Sierra is ''not'' above sucking bloods of other humans and she has remarked subtly that she wanted to suck on Klaus' blood. However, during Cook-Offs, turns out she's favoring vegetable dishes more.

* BoobsOfSteel: Given the amount of bouncing her battle sprite does...

* BoobsOfSteel: She's got some big ones, but is also a competent fighter.

* {{Delinquents}}: His look - the typical ''banchou'' or juvenile gang member.

* TheBully: He picks on Chaco all the time, [[HorrorHunger often threatening to ''eat'' him.]]

* LonersAreFreaks: Prefers to live in the Two-River Sewers, and he's quite creepy.
* PeekABogeyman: The local children in Two River are terrified of him - he loves to tell them horror stories.

* SlasherSmile: Sports a terrifying rictus grin.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: Befitting a martial artists, she's mostly barefoot, wearing guards that protect the tops of her feet but leave the soles and toes bare.

* DoesNotLikeShoes: She's a barefoot dancer, only wearing anklets.

* RatedMForManly: He even takes part in a unite attack called the "Manly Attack" with Amada.

* PeekABangs: His hair hides one of his eyes.

* FourIsDeath: During the climax of Matilda's invasion, Nanami successfully blocks the first three arrows shoots at her, but the fourth one hit his mark and kills (or not) her.
* FragileSpeedster: Extremely fast, so much that only a few select characters (namely Kasumi and Stallion) can outspeed her. She is even faster than TheHero. She can't take as much punishment as him. But with the right equipment, she could become a LightningBruiser.

* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: A rare positive version. Pulls one in the GoldenEnding, alongside Jowy and Nanami. Reunited with his best friend and his sister, Riou gives up his position as the liberator of the City-States of Jowston and embark on a journey around the world with the people he loves the most.

* HundredPercentAdorationRating: She cares for her citizens above all else and is well-loved by the people of Greenhill.

* BladeOnAStick: He wields a spear.

* LadyOfWar: She elegantly wields a ''[[BladeOnAStick naginata]]'', a weapon traditionally used by women in feudal Japan.

* BladeOnAStick: Wields a spear.

* BladeOnAStick: Like most Wingers, he wields one as a weapon.

* BladeOnAStick: She wields a spear.

* WhipItGood: His weapon of choice, the Beast Whip.

* ShoutOut: As a vampire hunter from one clan dedicated for it, and the existence of a major vampire (Neclord), Kahn and the Marleys fit well as the shout out to one of Creator/{{Konami}}'s magnum opus franchises ''Franchise/{{Castlevania}}'', specifically the Belmont clan. He's just missing the [[WhipItGood whip]] or any ancestral weapon specializing in killing powerful vampires (that goes to the Star Dragon Sword, but it's not a Marley family heirloom). All he got is the techniques passed down from generations.

* NotGoodWithPeople: Befitting his hermit status.

* TheChick: Miku-Miku. She's [[TheSmurfettePrinciple the only female]] in the flying squirrel squad, with a pink cape to boot.

* ThatOneSideQuest: For him to join, it is necessary to make 50,000 potch profit, purely from buy-low/sell-high trading at the various trade-posts throughout Dunan. This is an arduous, long-winded task compared to most of the other characters' recruitment processes.

* FlamingSword: Wields one [[ThatOneBoss to vicious effect]] in his boss fight, even though it's not powered by any Rune whatsoever.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: He's the prince of the kingdom and one of the most dangerous characters of the game.
