* SpottingTheThread: Weitz actually demonstrates this [[spoiler:when he determines that his old mentor was lying about his role in a conspiracy when he realises that the man cannot have been blackmailed under the circumstances he described. Weitz's friend claims that he slept with an underage girl at a prep rally when he took her back to his hotel room before learning her true age, but looking at a photo of the man wearing a tie Weitz leant him for that particular rally, Weitz remembered that the man only attended one such rally and left on the same day (which Weitz remembers as he didn't get the tie back until later), which meant that he couldn't have taken anyone back to his room]].

* LikeParentLikeChild: Kurt sees a similar character to Jane in her. Both are brave women and both are fluent in various languages.

* AbusiveParents: Sure she does love her children (in her own way), but her child rearing methods often involve emotional manipulation and shaming them into doing what she wants.

* FauxAffablyEvil: Shepherd often comes across as a warm maternal figure, and a genuine believer that she's doing what's right. However when things go wrong, this slips, revealing a cold, calculating and mercilessly bitter woman beneath.

* AnythingThatMoves: He often flirts and makes sexual comments all the time.

* BadassInCharge: Takes over as the Assistant Director of the FBI in Season Two, but this doesn’t stop him from going into the field and personally taking on threats though.

* GirlInABox: How Jane Doe was found. The CCTV cameras for Times Square can see the duffle bag being dropped off, but not who did it.

As Shepherd is also perfectly willing to sacrifice countless others to achieve this goal, Kurt doesn’t buy it.

Jane's real name was originally Alice Kruger, a South African taken in by the government with her brother as children and trained to be killers after their parents were killed for their anti-Apartheid activism. After the end of Apartheid, the two were rescued by a covert US military force of which Shepherd was a member, and she took the pair in, and Alice changed her name to Remi.
