People kept adding junk that is now on SelfDemonstrating.True Art to it.

Is that still going to be a problem now that there is a seperate Self-Demonstrating article? I'd really like to add back True Art Is Offensive and True Art Sticks It To The Man.

Well, you can't add two redlinked tropes to an index.

Well, I was thinking about bringing those articles back. I really don't see why they were deleted in the first place.

They were cut for being rants and not tropes, so said our administrator.

I don't see how they are any more subjective than the tropes that weren't deleted.

I distinctly recall plenty of actual examples of them being used as tropes. True Art Is Offensive even had a perfect example used for its trope picture. It was a portrait of Abe Lincoln with the N-word written across it, and IIRC, in-universe, the artist had no message or intent aside from garnering praise for being edgy.

(In fact, True Art Is Angsty , True Art Is Offensive , and True Art Sicks It To The Man could all fall under the concept that True Art Is Edgy.)

Why is this page still locked? From my understanding, it was due to content that has since been split to a separate self-demonstrating sub-page four years ago. I don't think there's a reason to still keep this in an indefinitely locked state. Also, True Art Is Boring belongs in this index.

True Art Is Challenging

Within great ones, there are stupid ones that just rant about everything that you already know.

Missing True Art Is Offensive and True Art Sticks It To The Man, though I'm not sure if the latter was ever a trope. Gonzo Journalism links it, in any case. I have a feeling that this'll cause red links all over the site.

Both used to be tropes, and if you check their histories, you can see that they used to be damn good ones too. Ones that should never have been deleted.

So multiple tropes were just deleted by Fast Eddie without any sort of discussion, explanation, or announcement whatsoever, and he changed the main True Art page into a short, basic description with a subtly negative view of the True Art tropes. Real nice.

Yeah, pretty much. That, and some other pages are being deleted for apparently being deleted. This website's going to shit.

Is it just me, or is this page biased against the concept of aesthetics? It seems to imply that anyone trying to hammer down a conception of what art is and what it entails just wants to sneer at things they don't like. Really, TV Tropes in general has something of a "populist" or "relativist" bias, but as I'm partial to the idea that there is in fact an objective measure of greatness in art I find this article somewhat distasteful.

I somewhat agree with this, but it's at least true that "This nebulous quality has never been hammered down by anyone." And it provides several ideas about what "True Art" is, which I think are pretty constructive. If anything maybe it's just missing more depth, but of course this is a topic you could write about endlessly.

I put the old, pre-lock version in its own page, SelfDemonstrating.True Art. Could a mod put a link to it on the main page?

A new True Art subtrope just got added, True Art Is Complex. Can a moderator add it as a subtrope to this page?

It's supposed to be a functional index. The attempts to be clever got out of hand.

Perhaps we should have a non-self-demonstrating version available, like we do for our other less comprehensible Self Demonstrating Articles for which normalization of the primary would minimize amusement?

I'm replacing this with an article that doesn't sound like it crawled out of 4chan's ass. If anyone really thought the old one was clever, post in on the Darth Wiki True Art Is Incomprehensible page. We don't need that crap here.

See you in the discussion pages.

No. You do not get to unilaterally replace the page on a whim, without discussion. As you are the only one who actually dislikes the old page (note that Schizo Technician was recommending that the "normal" page be linked to from this page, not replacing the old page outright), I've reverted it.

Madrugada MOD Since: Jan, 2001

Look, it's an Index. It's supposed to be a functional page. Filling it up with so much incomprehensible crap that you can't even find the index listing without going crosseyed is simply too much.

Some Guy is right — if you want to keep it, put it in DarthWiki.True Art Is Incomprehensible page. Not the main wiki.

How about keeping it, but separating the index from the insanity of the rest of the page? I've tried something like that; edit or revert as needed.

Some Guy is definitely not the only person who doesn't like this page. I hate it. The fact that anyone finds this funny gives me a headache. It's not a good parody, it's not at all clever and it only parodies one of the tropes (True Art Is Incomprensible, of course). It's more like a parody of web humor than pretentious art, except its not a parody, it is web humor. It's just a bunch of jokes people came up with in ten seconds. I'm with Some Guy and Madruga.

I hate it too. I hate all self demonstrating articles that sound like someone tried to go on a cleverness binge. If these are to continue to exist, make them the alternate page and the non-self-demonstrating version the default.

This doesn't belong on the main Wiki. It's useless, unhelpful, annoying, and not even all that funny. You can claim that that's the whole point, but that just makes you sound retarded.

Let's just move this clusterfuck to Darth Wiki and pretend this never happened, 'kay?

I don't think it explains the ridiculousness of those who use the trope. It doesn't parody art snobs, it parodies avante-garde art (badly).

It's a silly page I made which had some badly babelfished words posted in as a play on the few True Art tropes that existed at the time.

It's... grown since then. I am amazed.

Looking at the exact opposite of True Art — something that's new, happy, homegrown, simple, inoffensive, and conformist — we get a remarkably bland kid's show. Does this mean True Art is just a rebellion against childish media?
