\\\"...and often need certain traits like innocence, morality or beauty to begin with. \\\"

Which, in the majority of media, they often already do. That\\\'s the \\\'\\\'entire point\\\'\\\' of this trope. Your point?

While women may get criticized for being proactive on occasion, they are often given traits that ensure audience sympathy from the beginning. If they act in a \\\"manly\\\" fashion when they aren\\\'t supposed to, they may be criticized, but that doesn\\\'t often happen. They usually stay in the background and be their womanly selves while the men do all the work, good and bad. Remember, {{Men Act Women Are}}.

\\\"This can easily be seen by the way ugly, amoral male protagonists are more seen as more sympathetic than the inverse.\\\"

I don\\\'t know of any ugly, amoral female protagonists in media. The overwhelming majority are both good-looking and good-natured. Remember, [[BeautyIsNeverTarnished only males are]] [[BeautyEqualsGoodness allowed to be ugly.]]

\\\"...while male villains get the Draco in Leather Pants treatment far more than female villains.\\\"

If there were more female villains that might be true, but there simply aren\\\'t enough of them in the brunt of popular media to make a true comparison. The overwhelming majority of villains are male. And the few female villains out there are either {{Closer To Earth}} or end up making a {{High Heel Face Turn}}. In other words, women don\\\'t get the {{Draco In Leather Pants}} treatment because they aren\\\'t seen as real villains.

The trope page mentions that this is a double-edged sword. And, while a few women in media may be losing their sympathy through actions, all the men still need to earn it. This trope is alive and well, to this day.
