Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- • Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- • Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.
- • Asking if a trope example is valid. See the Trope Talk forum.
- • Proposing new tropes. See TropeLaunchPad.

openThis Troper talk on Headcsratchers and WMG
Are we allowed to use "I", "me", or "myself" on Headscratchers and WMG pages? I always thought that was the norm since these pages are more subjective in nature than those with trope examples.
openProblematic Troper
I've been keeping some tabs on the recent edit history of Caesar44 and I've noticed their edits have a lot of problems, mostly relating to Conversation on the Main Page. This mostly amounts to adding notes to entries (particularly about American politics) and arguing about how it's not an example, as well as having improper grammar and capitalization.
- On Awesome.Atop The Fourth Wall, they added a note disputing Linkara's claim that all art is political, claiming he missed the point of people complaining about works being "too political".
- On YMMV.Civil War, there's a Never Live It Down entry about Reed saying his father should've supported McCarthyism. They proceeded to add a note claiming that McCarthy's accusations were mostly accurate (a fact that most historians claim is not true), so Reed was 100% justified in his claim.
- On YMMV.Alternate History Hub, a Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped entry talking about how bad it was for Trump to withdraw American troops from Syria had a note added when he complained that Cody had done videos arguing the Middle East would've been better without American interventionism.
I've sent them a notifier about Conversation on the Main Page for at least the Atop the Fourth Wall entry a while ago, but it seems like they didn't get the message. It seems they're editing with an agenda given the topics they're arguing against.
Edited by chasemaddiganopenMarx Brothers Character Page
Considering the Marx Brothers played the same characters in literally every movie, can I make a single character page for them under their main page?
openPossible cut
On The Wiz, There's this listed under Older Than They Think
- For one (fairly conservative) online reviewer, The Wiz Live! was apparently tainted with the violence of black culture, thus making it less family friendly from the "original 1939 version", due to Dorothy being prompted to murder the witch (as opposed to stealing her broomstick). Ironically, that only occurred in the 1939 film, which isn't the original Wizard Of Oz. In the original book, the Wizard really does tell Dorothy to straight up murder the Wicked Witch, who at that point wasn't even actively a threat to her. This act of violence wasn't added to the story of The Wiz Live! due to it being a black casted show. It was always there from when the story was originally written.
Would it really count as YMMV if the writeup itself states that it was only one person rather than a group of people and it doesn't even give any names as to who or what said it?
Edited by nwotyzalopenContemplating Cut Lit for this page
The Headscratchers page for ''The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack'' questions nothing about the show itself and rather focuses on its supposed cancellation/ending, in a complaining matter. I'm not sure though if it's completely justified to send to the Cut List, as it does ask questions related to the show, albeit not its in-universe content.
Edited by TVGuy2001openTrope advice
There was a bit of to-and-fro on the Recap.RWBYV 8 E 14 The Final Word about whether the volume's end was "Ray of Hope" Ending or Downer Ending, so I put it on the discussion page.
Although I've flagged it with the RWBY fandom, there haven't been many responses to help reach a consensus.
Is it possible for some tropers to pop along and help decide which of the two tropes should apply?
openPossible Author Interference
A trope I added to The Sith Resurgence was recently deleted.
Its not the first time its happened and I think it might be the Author's doing since she brought it up directly recently, so it it might need to be looked into. Does it appear to be the case?

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/DoctorWho?action=diff Lord Typh added this, which makes me sideeye:
as well as the 'woke' politics that have become more prominent after Chibnall's era began (the latter being a phenomenon not unique to Doctor Who, with many voicing frustration at such writing decisions appearing in other shows)
Edited by emeriinopenNoRealLife not showing up
Disproportionate Retribution and Affably Evil are under NoRealLife.Morality Tropes, but NoRealLife/Morality Tropes isn't showing up on the trope pages list of indexes they are under despite it showing up for there tropes under it. Why?
Is it because they are already under so many indexes NoRealLife/Morality Tropes doesn't have space to appear or what? Or is it some fixable glitch?
openAuthor Expected Unintentionally Unsympathetic or what.
I added this to YMMV.The Negotiations Verse, but removed over questions:
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: From the ending of Fallen, Harmony was supposed to be a benevolent deity who righteously punishes and calls out Celestia and others for their wrongdoings, cures the newfoal transformation, and had in motion the means that would have prevented their suns death if not for Celestia fleeing with Equestria dooming their world. But Harmony never revealed the latter before, causing Celestia to know no other way to save her subjects, and Harmony never intervened to stop them from falling to villainy or prevent their atrocities sooner despite it being well within their power. This caused many readers to see Harmony as similarly guilty of, if not directly responsible for, Celestia's mistakes and wrongdoing and Harmony's calling them out reeking of the same arrogance that's condemned in Celestia. The author acknowledged they made the character for the sake of a fun ending knowing they wouldn't stand up to scrutiny and always intended an additional ending without them for those inclined.
If the author expected but didn't outright intended for the character to be disliked for such, does/can it count as Unintentional? I asked UU cleanup but they were stumped over this unique circumstance.
Would Rule of Cool, Rule of Fun, or some other trope fit this better?

open Ganging up to protect Anime
Is there any trope for when multiple characters gang up on the enemy/antagonist to protect the victim of an ass beat? Picture Neji being stopped of beating Hinata, Ichigo losing control and being stopped by the Vizards or the black bulls stopping the space magic dude that went berserk

Edited by themayorofsimpletonopenFixing a misspelled title Film
I recently created a page for the film Return of the Secaucus Seven. However, when I created the page, I inadvertently misspelled it as Return of the Secacus Seven. How do I change it so it's the right spelling?
I can't edit my main Tropers page because it starts with a number and not a letter. The message says "Sorry, the groupname and title must start with a letter and cannot contain special characters." This means that I don't have an easy way of accessing my sandbox outside of using History or using a forum signature. It feels clunkier than it needs to be, so how can I fix it?
