open Trope difference?
What is the difference between Directed by Cast Member and Descended Creator? The former being part of the cast from the start and latter only only being part later in the work?
openDoes this scenario count as more of a Broken Aesop or Unintentionally Sympathetic? Western Animation
I watched the recent episode of The Casagrandes "Bunstoppable" in which Syd and Adelaide are given the lesson about hard work and integrity, however their father wants them to make 800 bao in a few hours for a cultural fair to humiliate his rival. It's established that it's a difficult recipe that took them both hours to master and he offers them no help, except for criticisms of their bao making and when they are given the task they use their pets and robot to half-ass them, only to have to make 800 more. Is this Unintentionally Sympathetic for the kids? Unintentionally Unsympathetic for their dad? Broken Aesop for the unfair lengths that the kids are pushed to? Some of the above? All of the above?
Edited by IndigonopenCreating Character Subpages
I'm trying to create subpages for the Character page of The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, but the subpages aren't being made when I try to make them. Any ideas why?
openEntries on "What If? Episode 6" Western Animation
I've seen several entries regarding What If…? S1E6 "What If… Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?", like this one, claiming that the episode was intended by the creators as an "indictment" of fans who liked Killmonger's character. This seems like it could start an edit war, and having seen the episode, I think it was just aiming to tell a unique story while keeping Killmonger in-character. I don't think it was intended as some kind of meta-criticism of the fandom, and I'm not aware of any statement by the writers that it was.
openEdit warring troper with some other issues
~jamgorham has edit warred on the Awesome Music page for Adventure Time, apparently taking issue with the word "Hell" being used. They left a somewhat nonsensical edit reason for doing so: "Well, I'm reverting my edit anyway. Besides, this is GOOD music we're talking about here, and Hell is the BAD place." I've sent them a rudeness notifier for the edit reason and also mentioned that they were edit warring.
They also seem to have a wonk about exclusively using the word "lesbian" rather than "gay" in reference to gay women as seen here and here. I haven't crawled back through their whole edit history to see if they've been doing this for a long time, but "gay" is a perfectly acceptable term for many queer women, including those who identify as lesbians. Technically not incorrect, but an unnecessary tweak on examples that are already clear and understandable.
Edited by ZarinaopenEdit War on YMMV/TheOfficeUS page.
Awhile ago I found this Fan-Preferred Couple entry on The Office (US):
- There's a small, but vocal faction of the fandom that prefers Jim/Karen over Jim/Pam. This is mostly due to them believing that Karen's more outgoing and ambitious personality made her a better fit for Jim than Pam's shyness and risk-averseness.
The key word there is small. Vocal Minority is not enough to be this. Especially when it's actually not that vocal. Jim/Pam is bigger everywhere. So I removed cut it here. After it was add by broncos187 here. broncos187 the re-added a slightly different entry with out edit reason here. This is now an edit war correct?
Edited by BullmanopenWord of Dante misuse?
- Many fans of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic outright insist that Luster Dawn, Twilight Sparkle's top student in the Distant Finale, is canonically the daughter of Sunburst and Starlight Glimmer (or sometimes Trixie). In canon, it's actually not stated who her parents are: Josh Haber (the episode's writer) implied they might be related, while series director Jim Miller outright rejected the idea as something that cheapened the scope of the show's world. They both conclude that fans can come up with whatever they want, though.
Jim Miller: In my head, it makes a lot more sense if she's just a random student not related to anyone we've already met. And, it's always super weird if everyone is related somehow. IMO, it makes the world of the show feel smaller.
- Word of Dante: Even on this very wiki, everyone operates on the assumption that The Black Mass (the primordial entity that later became Aku) was an Omnicidal Maniac trying to devour the whole universe, but this is not established at any point. In the one episode it appears, it is simply born inan explosion of some sort, flies off, then the gods show up to destroy it while it's still seconds old, and it unsucessfully tries to fight back in self defense. The fragment that landed on Earth did indeed devour any and all creatures that came near it, but for all we know it might've simply been trying to regrow to it's original size.
Word of Dante states it's when someone of repute but no official authority/connections to the work makes a statement that's treated by fans as canon. The first is misuse as it's all about official word and Fanon. The second I believe is misuse as last I heard policy is this wiki is not to be used a reputable source save for info about this wiki, or was that just for official citation.
Also I wonder if Word of Dante should be YMMV as by definition it lacks the official contentions to the work to make it Trivia and its definition, fans treating an unofficial source as canon, sounds YMMV as who/what's treaded as such seems to come down to subjectivity.
openRedirecting Separate Media Subpages To One Page Videogame
A few weeks back I discussed making a Timeline page for Tales of Zestiria and Tales of Berseria. As the two games take place in the same universe and location, I wanted to combine all the details into one page, currently drafted in Timeline Tales Of Zestiria And Berseria.
Would it work if I took Timeline.Tales Of Zestiria and Timeline.Tales Of Berseria and redirected them both to Timeline.Tales Of Zestiria And Berseria? My main concern is whether or not they'd show up under the "More" tab connected to the game's pages (the same space where stuff like Moments and YMMV are listed).
openGodzilla's portrayal in the anime trilogy Anime
Hello, everyone. I've been watching OmniViewer's videos, inclduing his review of Godzilla 2000. In that movie, the titular character is alternates portrayals as a hero, a villain and an amoral force of nature. The GPN sees him as an amoral force of nature, while the CCI as an outright villain, and it's only till the climax of that movie that he assumes the role of hero, well, Anti-Hero, but he's clearly the guy we're supposed to be rooting for.
I think that this argument can be thrown at Godzilla in across the entire anime trilogy. The space humans see Godzilla as a villain, while the Houtua see him as an amoral force of nature and it's only till the climax of The Planet Eater that Godzilla becomes an Anti-Hero. I think this could be included in any of those movies' pages. So, what do you say?
Edited by MasterHeroopenCan a recap page have both Downer Ending and Ray Of Hope Ending at the same time? Western Animation
I just stumbled upon seeing two What If…? S1E5 "What If… Zombies?!" examples where there's a Downer Ending and a "Ray of Hope" Ending. I know this isn't a first time but I don't know it the previous problem are solved before. So do you think one of them should be removed or we should keep it?
Edited by BubblepigopenRearranging recap pages
cheril59 rearranged the episodes on Ed, Edd n Eddy, saying they listed them in production order, but I had already put them in the correct order as established by a previous ATT thread.
They've been doing this to other pages as well, like Recap.Camp Lazlo, Recap.Class Of 3000, Recap.Time Squad and others.
Edited by WalkinshadowsopenSpringfield as a whole is a Card Carrying Jerkass?
I found this entry on the recap page of The Simpsons episode "The Boys of Bummer"
- Card-Carrying Jerkass: The whole town quite proudly (literally, as in has it on billboards advertising the place) labels itself "The Meanest City In America".
But is this really why there is billboard that labels the city as such? For all we know, somebody outside of Springfield could've put that billboard up.
Edited by BrianKTopenAre they Zero Context Examples if minimal explanation is given?
One recurring thing I've noticed on character sheets and main page, well, the general of example pages really, is that people will add a trope without providing at least one specific example of it occurring in the work which shows that the editor hasn't seen much of the work or at least looked up a sufficient amount of information and is making these judgements on a passing glance.
What I mean is, adding Jerkass to a Character Sheet for example and only detailing that 'This character's an asshole, rude, mean, narcissistic, evil, yada yada' without providing any specific examples of them behaving like that in the work.
Would you consider examples like these (not with the phrasing I've provided in the previous paragraph; that was obviously an exaggeration) Zero Context if they don't give at least one example of the trope being used in the work, rather just saying "It's used a lot"?

openCharacter limits for multi-character character pages
I wanted to ask if the 40,000 byte minimum for splitting off new character pages only applies to pages for single individuals or for groups as well. For example — say that there's a character page for The Adventures of Alice and Bob, with a section for Alice's gang and a section for Bob's gang. If Alice's folder, by itself, has less than 40k characters, it doesn't get a page. If the folders for Alice's gang, put together, also count less than 40k characters, does the ban still apply or can the group be split off into its own character page anyway?
openPossible What If edit war Western Animation
On the recap page for the sixth episode of What If...?, there's a back and forth over which of Uatu's quotes should be at the top of the page. Tr0p6564rch6r is pushing for the very first line of the episode:

openSaw Recap Plagiarism
On the Cut List, recap pages for all 9 Saw movies have been submitted for "[Containing] plagiarized text from other wikis". Normally, adding pages full of plagiarized content to the cutlist would be admirable. However, looking at the edit history for each page shows that the content was first added by Inky 100... the same person who submitted the pages to the cutlist.
