openCorrect namespace
I'm considering doing a page for the kid's channel Cocomelon. But I'm having an issue in what namespace I should put it under. What references it has on the wiki are under the Western Animation namespace. However, from what I can find of it, it's actually a Youtube channel, which should make it a Web Animation. But there's also a point to make about putting it under Creator, like Pinkfong. So what namespace should I put it under?
openMaking a tropes page about an untranslated work
What title should I use when making a tropes page about an untranslated work? Say the work I want to do a tropes page is an original story or some fanfic written in my native language (Spanish in this case) that doesn't have an official translation to English, nor its title. Should I use an unofficial translation made by me or just leave the title in its original language and then clarify in the description what it means in English?
openReverted a weird, cross-franchise, cross-continuity character sheet merge
I may have accidentally gone against a forum thread. I saw that Power Rangers Tommy Oliver was weirdly cross-continuity and across the entire franchise and multiple continuities, even having stuff for his Evil Counterpart. I put the folders back on their appropriate character pages (Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (Boom! Studios): Rangers, Power Rangers (2017), etc.) because every single alternate version had a character page already and it was really weird to me that they were all under the same folder for no reason (we don't do cross-media, cross-continuity character sheets for anything else, e.g. Spider-Man has separate pages for the media he appears in, they don't all redirect to one page for all Peter Parkers ever).
I didn't know this was actually okayed by a forum until I checked to see why this was done in the edit reasons, which is my bad. Figured I'd mention it, and a mod can restore the pages to an earlier version.
But also, should the merged page even be a thing? It looked messier that way and it's weird that one character gets this when others who have also appeared in multiple media and continuities don't, so making it consistent across the entire franchise would only add to the messiness.
Edited by FuzzyBarbarianopenTrope variation
Would it make sense to have a variation of the "Take My Hand" trope that doesn't involve a life-or-death situation (mainly involving a turning point in the relationship between two characters)? I tried launching one recently ("Offering A Hand"), but found out it got. Any suggestions?
openCustom title collision
There are two works called Twisted with pages on this wiki. Unfortunately, one has an exclamation point in its title while the other doesn't, which results in an inaccurate custom title for the latter. Should we rename one of the work pages?
openGone Horribly Wrong
Does it need the Playing With page? The examples the sole contributor posted within are all over the place, a majority of which, I think, can be used as just "straight" examples.
openDEATH BATTLE! Fridge Horror cleanup Web Original
The "Character Death Consequences" on DEATH BATTLE!'s Fridge page compose almost all of the Fridge Horror section's examples, with only a small handful of examples being about something else in a different folder. However, the show clearly states how the animations are pure Spectacle, with the specifics of the animation not meant to reflect what should happen in a fight. The page itself acknowledges this fact in its Fridge Brilliance section, as does TV Tropes itself in Pantheon.Acts Of War. With how much these examples are bogging the page down, I suggest moving them to a separate page.
openIdiosyncratic's at it again... maybe.
Remember how, previously, Idiosyncratic was overly zealous in removing flame bait tropes? Well, it's started again, or at least I think it has.
HERE, they removed the word Canon Sue from an Analysis page, even though (as far as I know) it's okay to use that term on an Analysis page.
HERE they removed the term "God Mode Sue" from a picture of God, even though it's clearly meant as a pun. They said it was "unnecessary flame bait".
HERE, they changed "Correction Bait, a sister to Flame Bait and Snark Bait" into "Correction Bait, a sister to Flame Bait," removing the word Snark Bait. Even though there's nothing wrong with mentioning a trope's related tropes.
EDIT: HERE, they removed a few Flame Bait tropes from a list of related tropes. Even though the Flame Bait tropes were indeed related, and stating that they are is fine. Another example, I feel, of Idiosyncratric's habit of being overzealous, and wrongly thinking that you must never even mention flame bait tropes.
So what do you all say? Am I overreacting, or is this a problem?
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenThe 100 Laconic Page Live Action TV
So I decided to ask in the Laconic Description Improvement Thread if the laconic page for The 100 could be changed to "A group of teen delinquents get sent to Earth and have to survive in the middle of an apocalypse". I didn't get much of a response over there so I decided to post it here to see if the new description is an improvement over the current.
open YMMV Pokemon Journeys/2019 Anime issue: Jackpot21 versus Franchise Original Sin Anime
...Yes, I know, but this is a trope I really stand for, stand on, and I want to fix it without starting an edit war.
Okay, so here's what Jackpot removed.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/PokemonJourneysTheSeries
...
- Franchise Original Sin:
- Ash has had a co-lead before, most famously in the form of Dawn. At several points Dawn would take the lead as the focus character even in the midst of what might be considered an Ash focused storyline, such as during the Maylene episodes where she took a lead in roughly half of the four episodes. Fans have more problems with Goh doing this than Dawn due to it being perceived as more often and more intrusive to Ash's focus.
- It has been in Ash's nature at several points to have the course of the journey dictated by those around him more than his own, notably with May and Dawn's Contests and Serena's Showcases. However this is perhaps the first series where such a occurrence has been widely criticized and disliked by a sizeable and vocal portion of the fanbase, with Goh's goals tending to dominate a large chunk of episode over Ash's being a frequent issue with such fans. Possible reasons for this being Goh's captures often occurring in episodes that would have once been considered filler thus giving the fans a feeling that Goh gets more focus than he actually is intended to, Goh's goal being relevant more frequently than the female companions and thus aggravating fans more, or just the fact that Goh's status as a designated co-lead means that any imbalance in focus is more tangible to the fanbase.
...
This is Jackpot's given reason for removing it.
...
Dawn isn’t classified as a protagonist but as a traveling companion. The difference between her and Goh is that Dawn’s focus episodes were spread out and didn’t overshadow Ash’s journey, usually involved competing in Contests, bettering herself as a Coordinator, or had to do with her Pokémon, whereas with Goh’s focus episodes, they tend to happen every few episodes and would more often than not be about a specific Pokémon that he’d catch at the end of the episode. Also, how did Ash’s companions dictate his journey? Most of the Contests or Showcases were on the way to whatever Gym he’d challenge next. That’s far different from Goh dragging him around to whatever location he found out a specific Pokémon will be at or a specific event taking place. ...
I am very familiar with the Pokemon fanbase. I am aware of how the fanbase is and what the show is like for twenty years, and what it is now. I am aware of Goh is seen, and I am able to look at it historically.
Dawn was treated as a Co-Lead. In the opening of DP anime episodes, it is the 'adventures of Satoshi (Ash) and Hikari (Dawn). May, Iris, Serena, Misty, etc did not get this. The only one who gets that is Goh.
As to the point about direction, at several points in the series the company diverts their path to go to places that are contest or showcase based (For example, in Kalos Ash does this for some of Serena's later performances)
Also, and I suspect this is the most important, this is YMMMV. Your Mileage May Vary. I don't think the edit removal given really works as that argument is more for 'yes or no' tropes versus opinion tropes. Jackpot removed it more on 'I don't agree with it' lines, which strikes me as problematic for YMMV tropes, especially as Goh's issues brought up are a commonly held opinion on many sites like Bulbargarden and Spacebattles and the point of 'being something in the originals' is used in debate there and acknowledged as such.
Please help me return the trope to YMMV Journeys. I added it originally so I cannot without risking an edit war (while I added it back in August 21 so I have no idea if that makes a reversing edit two and a half months is the edit, remove, edit definitions or not.)
Edited by KrspaceTopenGuide - How to use smilies in Ask The Tropers and more!
EDIT: Confirmed that this also works on the TLP AND reviews as well!
This is not a question, but more advice and a solution for people who want to use the arrow/emoticon feature in Ask The Tropers without typing "[up]" (which doesn't actually work) or "^".This took an irritatingly long time to figure out, mostly because the image markup doesn't actually work with any images outside the "/public" directory (which is what the smilies are). Apparently you have to throw the entire link in instead.
Anyway, I think I managed to get it. Copy and use the markup as much as you want to! (You can also highlight the emoticon and use the old copy+paste.)

Edited by SilverCrownopenFirst Person Writing on Rhymes on a Dime
So, in the Real Life section of Rhymes on a Dime, some troper(s) decided to write a couple of examples as a Self-Demonstrating Article:
- Nipsey Russell could pull off a couplet at just the drop of a hat. Name another talented person who could ever do just that.
- Wayne Brady, lady?
- Not just him, but most of the the guests on both versions of Whose Line Is It Anyway? Josie Lawrence was particularly good at this type of play.
- I could argue, I guess, but it's not worth the ink; I'll just say it's not quite as hard as you think.
- If you're a Knick fan, you're used to hearing it from Walt "Clyde" Frasier, man.
Normally I would delete as an instance of First-Person Writing as it is a violation of wiki rules, but in this case it is clearly part of the self-demonstrating style. What should I do?
openCopycat Dinosaurs
I just ran across Recap.Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous S 3 E 01 View From The Top and realized that its description is copied from either imdb or the fan wiki. Either way, C Jthe Drake has been suspended for plagiarism, but I need other editors to help out the Copy-Paste Cleanup Thread to verify which pages need fixing (ideally we won't have to cut them).
openNorm of the North edit war
Some time ago, I removed this example from YMMV.Norm Of The North.
- Spiritual Adaptation: Is this the final evolution of Norman Jewison's cursed production Atuk note The movie would have been about a clumsy but kind-hearted native of the Arctic— an Inuit man, not a polar bear, in this case— who becomes stranded in New York. ? If so, good riddance.
We deleted it because in the complaining thread, we agreed that it was worded like a death threat towards Rob Schneider (the "good riddance" part at the end), plus Mightymewtron believed that comparing Inuits to polar bears may be Unfortunate Implications.
But just today, Dangerdan 97 re-added the example and posted this edit reason.
"it's YMMV, not Your Mileage is the Only Right One"
Edited by MrMediaGuy2openTropes with no image
I remember a page that listed tropes without an image. Does that actually exist?
openEdit War
Over on Live-Action Films I had edited an entry on Con Air to fix indentations and remove repetitive points. Yesterday, Fireblood edit-warred his wording back in.
I noticed that in pages that are particularly long - for example, the WMG.Fate Grand Order page I just tried editing - typing through mobile becomes exceptionally difficult. The cursor lags unbelievably - I can literally write a whole paragraph and the cursor would only progress by a word at most - and trying to actually save the edit is impossible because the part of the screen covered by the "keyboard" goes blank once you turn that off. This makes casual edits - such as correcting grammar or spelling - all but impossible, and for adding examples you'd have to first write them somewhere else and then copy paste it to the appropriate page.
Is there anything that can be done for this? Is this a problem with my device or all mobile phones? I have no such issues with my laptop.
