Well, I have three superhero stories and all fall under the same universe, but they are sort of spin off sequels within at least a year of each other, beginning with League of Heroes, followed by Future Heroes where a mentor is member of Lo H and the parents of members of Future Heroes are stars of the U.N. funded Heroes Unlimited. So I had to make a bit of a huge Rogues Gallery to accommodate this so I think I'll introduce them in bits and pieces.

King Starman's Army

King Starman Luminante is the main villain of the original League of Heroes run, a king of the the Luxio galaxy trying to conquer the universe when he hits a snag on planet earth that at first intrigues him but eventually drives him insane. I play him as a somewhat nutty geek-type guy whose trying to balance being a good ruler, being a good friend to his troops, and being a good father and husband to his wife and son. Has many Not So Different moments with the leader of the Lo H, Fistman.

King Starman and his race known as the Star people, are energy-based life-forms, subsisting off of consuming gases and increase their lifelines by concentrating their energy release, giving them the appearance of 5-point stars.

He fights like Lord Zedd in that he has strong magic powers that make his very capable but he prefers the "Use magic to mutate a human and see what happens" method which is supposedly why villains with superpowers appeared to begin with. He's responsible for threats like Dr. Hair-Tonic to complete failures like the Kite Master.

  • Captain Starsmith: A leading captain who got caught in one of the King's mutations spells that transforms his physique, transforming his outer-skin into a metallic shell while his energy based core remained. He can retract his arms into his core and rework them into new weapons.

  • Captain Nova: A traitor to the Altaraxian planet, Captain Nova, as an ungrippable Alteraxian, has blob-like shape shifting powers. Her upgrade via Starman's magic is she can induce flares and explosions by opening her membrane.

  • Ecliptus: An unknown entity who comes out form no where to aide Starman in his pure black and technologically advanced powersuit. Turns out it's the king's eager-to-please son, Prince Starman Jr. The suits features include various icearms (Energy-based life forms are harmed by things that slow down energy, aka the cold), missiles, and invisibility.

King Starman's Special Troops

http://ac-drawings.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2c10k2

  • Commander Comet: Form a race black blob-like beings known for their speed and love of the cold, Comet is a trusted friend of the King and a cold and freakishly serious leader of the Special Troops. With magical Upgrades from the king, he has stone armor that allows him a more solid shape and ice powers. He also has a speed that is forever unmatched, even the League of Heroes's speedster, Crimson Lightning, stood no chance.
  • Asteroid: An enormous being from a planet of mineral-based life forms, Asteroid is known for his brute strength and gruff attitude as well as his sheer enormity. His upgrade from the king allows him to compressed his body to take on a diamond-like consistency that makes him smaller, but quicker.
  • Nebula: A gaseous being and the only special troop that is not from a pre-existing species. Nebula is a mutant grunt created form the King's experiments on, well, a nebula. He grew stronger and came to be one of the most dangerous mutant grunts and eventually a special trooper. Nebula is a smart-alecky wise guy who buds around with Asteroid. He can strangle people to death and cut off their breathing supply and create mini stars to lob at enemies like fireballs. His magical upgrade is the ability to take on a solid and more star-like form like the other Star people.
  • White Dwarf: Diminutive, devious, and cunning, White dwarf is a strong strategist who packs a real punch. A sub race of the star people. Her magical upgrade increases her density and heat making her impossible to touch. She always works with Red giant.
  • Red Giant: smart, thoughtful, and large, Red giant is a strong tactician who can expand his aura to create heat blasts. Also a sub race of the Star People. Red Giant's magic upgrade allows him to expand his aura so much it's larger than Asteroid and may as well be it's own entity as he works with it from the inside as a sort of super large body making him impossible to touch, Always works with White dwarf.
  • Black Hole: Newest member of the team, also serious and wants to prove herself but not as cold or formal as Comet. Black hole is from a species identical to Comet's only they feed off of light and can travel through darkness. Starman gave her a cloak becuase she shy about her appearance. Black hole can create portals of darkness in places she can see and her magic upgrade allows her to store light and regurgitate it as an energy blast.

I get such a strange vibe from these guys and I mean that in a really good way! It reads like one part Jack Kirby's New Gods, one part Power Rangers (original mind you), one part Ben 10. Which actually brings up these really cool story opportunities.

Its also funny but your King Starman (very shonen chic btw) kina reminds me of my villain Nate Novaks.

Hmm, you're right. I hadn't read the New Gods but I've hear enough of them to get your point, and also, Mighty Morphn' Power rangers was one of the bigger influences behind this. I wanted to keep it superhero esqueyet find away to make it long-running/different every fight. The Lord Zedd/Rita Repulsa route seemed like the best way to go.

Even King Starman's mooks are basically like putties, not that they get destroyed or anything but they wear breathing belts so they can survive eon Earth's atmosphere, but when the belt is broken they're immediately teleported to the ship's infirmary like how Zed's putties were destroyed if you hit the Z on them.

Now that I think about it, he is a little bit like your Nate Novak, a basically decent person who happens to be doing bad things.

I also forgot to mention, King Starman and his people are religiously motivated with a superiority complex. They believe their r gods (The stars and suns) created the star people in their image and are trying to reflect that image by making the universe revolve around them.

The Star Kingdom are basically supposed to last the duration of the League of Heroes series (most likely 7 novels).

Though I must ask, what did you mean by King Starman being Shounen-esque? Is it his name or his shtick or something?

Yes, I can see the Power Rangers influences there, but I don't see the shonen.

Anyway, I don't really have anything properly fleshed-out at the moment, except an idea for super-spy fiction.

REBUS

REBUS is an international intelligence, detective, and metahuman monitoring agency, first formed in 1950 after the Inquiry Irregulars joined forces with the Confederacy of the Red Rose following the death of the masked detective Rebus. Since then they have faced everything that threatened the earth from alien invasions, metahuman uprisings, terrorist endeavors, and marauding cosmic horrors.

REBUS bases its operations in the Labyrinth, a network of buildings shifting between dimensions, accessible in secret locations in any city.

Each Rebus agent is given a code-name based upon their assignment and abilities.

A small few notable operatives are:

  • Query - also known as John "Paladin" Paulson, is the executive director, a quiet man who never raises his voice, who has served in over a dozen wars and takes his nickname from the ancient sword he carries.
  • Paradox are the seven psychic sensitives who channel and analyze all information into comprehensible reports.
  • Mystery is the gas-masked, brown-suited troubleshooter of REBUS, who speaks only in whispers and is the agency's strong arm in combat and raiding operations.
  • Conundrum - also known as Conan Drumm - is the son of senior REBUS agent Hugo Drumm, and is the agency's best infiltration operative. Conan and Hugo are based on James Bond and Bulldog Drummond respectively.

I had a superhero idea once—a teenage boy by the name of Joshua Reed, who stumbled across a secret project to create superheroes, and wound up as a Master of Illusion. He calls himself Thousand and has been passing himself off as having "a thousand abilities." It wound up being less about him, though, and more about the people around him—Aura, his fangirl turned sidekick possessed of dangerously strong devotion, Saint, his sweet and innocent girlfriend who's about to be introduced to reality (in no small part thanks to Aura), Libra, his incredibly powerful sometime ally sometime enemy who wishes he could be a criminal but feels obligated to provide a positive influence for others . . . I'm calling it Thousand-Plus if I ever write it (not that I'm likely to.)

It feels weird to give the character descriptions—I can never tell whether I'm saying too much or too little. But one day when I was bored, I spent quite a while coming up with mechanics for calculating Power Levels, till they reached the point of resembling a tabletop game. I guess I can post those in hottips.

 Intro

 Drive

 Focus

 Enhancement

 Powers can change

A more complicated example of powers changing

 How the powers actually work

 Power frequency

How do we get these numbers, anyways?

Yes, I put as much thought into the characterization and plotting as into this. No, I can't draw. Yes, I really have that little to do. (Then again, Poser sounds like it could be useful—it can't mimic comic books, but it can mimic City Of Heroes.)

AC Drawings: It's really only the name that seems Shonen to me but probably because it reminds me of Saiyaman from Dragon Ball Z.

Krrackknut: That sounds cool! Were there any recurring enemies REBUS faced?

Feotakahari:This kinda sounds cool too but how does a Master of Illusion make it appear he has powers ither than that? Sorry but I couldn't make it past all those liner note. They flew right over my head.

Well, there was a terrorist organization named ANSWER (kind of like HYDRA or COBRA), who sought world domination to bring peace and solve the world's problems. The theme of the story was to have the people with the "solutions" fight the people with the "questions".

Alright then, let's see...

I don't have a lot of pure superheroes. At least, none as main characters(the story I'm working on will change that). But I do have XYZ.

XYZ's real name is Marcus Matheson. He had an extremely normal life growing up, and continued to do so even after he moved into the city with the highest crime rate in the USA.  *

He was never injured in a supervillain attack, never lost any loved ones to a crime(Not during his life, and it's not like he has any loved ones in the city), didn't have powers, and the only thing that would suggest he'd become a superhero was the fact that he was a reporter. Despite all that, he became XYZ in 1990, and immediately set out to bring down the mythical crime lord known as The Megalodon. What he found was that one doesn't just decide to be a hero, and there are always consequences.

Krracknut, your idea is rather fascinating. And uh, Conan Drumm? Really? And I thought my Don Cyan-Cydon guy was bad... Still it's a fascinating concept, I like the mystery and question theme.

And uh, Feo... That's uh.... something else. I'm actually rather impressed. A lot of thought clearly was put in this system.

Seamus: Sounds intriguing. So is it a deconstruction of the genre? I'm really curious as to how XYZ looks considering how you described him.

Definitely a deconstruction, I like this XYZ character. I sort of imagine him dressing up like The Question only with sunglasses and using ordinary household tools and a camera.

Interesting concept, Seamus.

And yeah, it is intentionally lame, but I managed to homage the earliest pieces of spy fiction through it, so I'm fine with it.

This is what he looks like. And another earlier drawing someone did.(The second is full of characters from other stories that were posted on the same site)

I don't know if he's a deconstruction or not. I would call his story more of an observation than anything else.

Seamus: Are these observations played for drama or comedy?

Anyways, the one thing I'm having difficulty with is trimming the fat from my universe. See, the whole idea of the Legacies verse was to create a comicbook universe that was simple but still stimulating in comparison to DC and Marvel's cosmologies and easier for new or experienced comicbook readers could get into.

I've been able to deal well enough with the underwater cities that populate the surface of the earth's oceans but I find myself having trouble with Space, the Spirit World and the Application of Magick in my verse. Anyone willing to help a guy out?

Drama.

For Space, I think the first question would be who is running the civilization. Aliens or humans?

Well, the original idea was that a Federation of sorts was running the shots using the a police force called The Sentinels to enforce their laws with the one or two problem species (this was when I was playing up Drake's Equation optimistically with the Federation being made up of 8 planets).

I don't really know If I still wanna go that way or use Drake's Equation more seruiously.
