I LURRRRRRRRRRRV Lelouch from Code Geass. And Rock from Black Lagoon. And Rational!Harry from Harry Potter Andthe Methods Of Rationality. And Negi from Mahou Sensei Negima. And Nico Robin from One Piece, we have a lot in common besides values (and no, the interest is not romantic).

To me, all of the above are Escapist Characters who Jumped at the Call and are trying to apply their idealistic values with a realistic mindset to extremely cynical worlds, and tragically failing because reality does not work that way.

I also love Guts from Berserk, but it's more out of pity than admiration.

"Admiration is the feeling furthest from understanding".

BTW, I utterly despise Griffith from the same series. Because he has exactly the same trappings the sort of characters I love have (Magnificent Bastard Knight in Sour Armour who declares war on the entire world), but he's EVIL AND SELFISH TO THE CORE.

Oh, I forgot to say, I really started loving Luffy the moment he had that damn flag shot down. I WANT TO LIIIIIIIIIIVE!

And, well, while I think The Count from Gankutsuoh is a major turn on, and I say that as a male, he is so selfish and evil I can't bring myself to like him .

I have a lot of trouble liking actually evil people.

The main cast of Yu Yu Hakusho - especially Kuwabara.

I can vouch for you there.

You probably already know where I'm going with this one- Shinobu Sensui. He may be an asshole, but sometimes you can't help but feel sorry for him. Plus he's a Straight Gay who's the World's Strongest Man until he dies, he appears to be One Of Us, and...yeah. He wrote the book on Dangerously Genre-Savvy and Hidden Depths partially due to his Faceā€“Heel Turn in the former instance and his seven personalities in the latter. Plus I have a lot of his flaws, so it's easier for me to like him.

I also tend to like the Psycho Supporter archetype: Misa Amane, Shaiapouf (who, despite the feelings of the fandom, I consider to be completely awesome in his Mad Love glory), Itsuki (because Sensui wouldn't be who he is without him), and Lady Une.

I am glad to see a positive topic, but I guess I will list favorite characters rather than ones I love, because I honestly do not think I "love" any of them. I am going to try to be brief. Anyway, this list is not in order and I apologize ahead of time for this useless post.

  • Alphonse Elric: I like his optimistic viewpoint and how he tends to be more of the reasonable one when Edward is a little irrational or emotional. I also like how he is not just the sidekick to Edward(some would disagree with me about that) and actually thinks about things himself a good amount of the time. Also, he has blond hair.

  • Yuki Nagato: I like quiet characters and I think Yuki is a great example of one. I also like how she is clutch nearly all of the time and helps explain some of the strange occurrences to Kyon. The fact that her abilities are absurdly powerful also helps.

  • Tsukiyo Ohba: I like how Ohba has Large Ham moments, but also hides in the shadows a bit. For some reason I feel like I can really relate to Ohba, but I do not completely understand why. In summary, I think Tsukiyo Ohba is pretty neat and adds a lot to Sketchbook.

  • TK: I suppose I like TK for reasons similar to ones I already stated for Alphonse. Also, I always thought he had one of the strongest Digimon partners and I like how he took more of a leadership role in the second season. I think he usually understands a situation and reacts calmly and he seems to almost always be friendly. He also has blond hair.

  • Minami Iwasaki: I like quiet characters. I also sometimes feel like I can relate to Minami, but I am nowhere near as good a friend as she is. I also like how she is really modest.

  • Tamaki Kawazoe: While I think Azuma is a pretty good character too, I like Tamaki because she is really determined. She balances liking anime with being really passionate about something else which I think is nice too. She is another quiet character too, sorry.

  • Azusa Nakano: I feel like I would be most like Azusa because I would probably want to focus on actually practicing. I realize that is a selfish reason, but that is the reason why she is one of my favorite characters. I do like how she relaxes from time to time, but also is generally focused on what is important.

Supporting Guts, from Berserk.

Seriously, even when he's in his douchemuffin stage for a few years after the eclipse, you can't really dislike him for it, even at his worst he'll just occasionally do something that makes you realize that the Slasher Smile is just a facade, and he's breaking inside.

Pretty much the whole cast of TTGL for pretty much general awesomeness. Even Nia. In the second movie, she actually gets one of the biggest moment of awesomeness in a movie filled with awesome (when she points her ring right at the anti-spiral)

Nao in Liar Game. In the TV adaptation, doubly so (which is a lot). That she works so hard to maintain a perfect honest balance...it's insane. And that as time has gone by she's gotten a bit more sly without compromising her ideals. I love it.

The Elric Bros. Just...them. Young prodigies even without their added powers, their minds are their major power. The ability to make anything...I still contend that on the whole they'd win most any Shonen dream matchup.

Let's see...

Edward Elric (animeverse): He's a ball of irrationality, idealism, intelligence and loyalty. I also really love the way he developed over the course of the anime. I also love Alphonse in the animeverse, although to a lesser extent. I just adore their relationship in general, and love the way they play off of each other. I guess I just have a soft-spot for codependent sibling relationships.

Ken Ichijouji: He's an interesting character. He's probably the character I've spent the most time in total analyzing. Nevermind the fact that he's freaking adorable.

Pretty much the entire main cast of YYH, although I have the least fondness for Hiei. They're just such well-developed, entertaining characters. I also adore Genkai and Younger Toguro, for being kick-ass as well as interesting.

Orihime Inoue: She's just so adorable. If she were real, I would want to be her friend.

Gokudera Hayato: Mostly for the same reasons I like Edward, sans the idealism.

Haruhi Fujioka: Probably the only Shojo protagonist I've ever been able to identify with ever.

The entire main cast of The Haruhi Suzumiya series, minus Mikuru: They're interesting, entertaining, and keep me on my toes. They also have surprisingly subtle character development.

Konoka Konoe. Because she proves that a character doesn't need to be complicated to be deep. That they don't have to direct attention to them self to be interesting. That they don't need to stand out front to shine.

Yamada, from B Gata H Kei - Two Tropes: Tsundere Cloud Cuckoo Lander.

Tomoyo from the Clannad visual novel - Great as The Tease love interest for Tomoya.

Ninamori from FLCL. - I can't really explain that one.

Some of the more common ones, like Kyon, Haruhi, Osaka, or L.

Where to begin?

Kurau. She's a complete badass and yet incredibly kind and motherly at the same time. She's both the kind of character you really want to root for, and the kind of character you want to sit down and have a cup of tea with.

Lelouch. He's just such a fabulous, magnificent asshole. He makes asshattery cool.

Nabeshin. He's completely insane. He has an afro that he stores guns in. He's the director. Everything about him just reeks of crazyawesome.

Sarashina Chizuru. I like Cloud Cuckoo Landers. I like Genki Girls. She's both. And she crossdresses on a whim.

Shuichi Nitori. Mainly because I relate to her. A lot.

Masanosuke Akitsu. He's just so huggable, and just generally kind-hearted. And yet, when he actually gets serious, he's pretty awesome, too.

Morte Ashera. Manga and Anime versions, at least. For her Manga version, she makes Light Yagami look like a nice guy. I appreciate that. And she wants to destroy the world. Which is awesome.

Anime version, she's the only tsundere character I actually like. Maybe because, instead of spending her time beating up on some pathetic loser whom she harbors a crush on like most tsundere characters, she actually channels it to something productive: breaking faces and, of course, setting out to destroy the entire world. I absolutely do not harbor a major amount of PACL for her...

Fuusuke from Ninku

I mean cummon he looks like he took crack every day in his life. Plus he's really odd.

  • Abridged Bandit Kieth- because he's american!

  • Abridged Nappa- I always thought that Nappa should have been the standout chracter and they fulfilled my wish here.

  • Abridged Kemo- His hair has so much to say

  • Nel Tu- Looks so cute and acts so silly. The best partner ichigo has ever had.

  • Dark Schneider- the ladies love him but not so much as he loves himself.

  • Giovanni- The greatest man in pokemon with awesome herculean feats.

  • Ludicolo- Anything that gets Giovanni to shake his "boss booty" is made of win.

How could I forget Lelouch? He's basically Ken Ichijouji, but older and with a more integrated personality.

I guess I'm bucking the trend here, because I'm going to list Suzaku.  *

Who else...

I'll admit I'm probably not the best person to answer this question, since for some of the shows I love (ie. Princess Tutu), the answer would be basically "the entire main cast".

I liked Suzaku, but for me he was a bit too bland generic shonen character for me to really fall in love with him. Not that I don't like him, he's just not as interesting as Lelouch. To be fair, no one else in that series is as interesting as Lelouch. Well, to me anyway.

About Nao. I like her as a character, especially after she started going down the Nodoka route, but I don't especially LOVE her. Strangely enough, I don't LOVE love Akiyama either, even though he's the mastermind kind of character that I usually adore. His personality, while interesting, lacks that... something. That X-factor that makes me fall in love with a character. Out of all the Liar Game characters, the one character that I truly love is the crossdresser. Fukunaga. I know I shouldn't, since he's an evil, selfish little bitch, but he's been getting better lately, and he IS the most flamboyant and interesting out of all the characters in the entire thing.

@Raw Power: I thought the Count was entirely justified in exacting revenge on the three evil bastards, but to me he crossed the Moral Event Horizon when he was prepared to kill an innocent for the purpose of his revenge. I suppose the Gankutsuou possession excuses him, though?

I don't really have too much problem loving evil characters, if they're interesting enough, though my truest, deepest love is reserved for characters that I see as mostly good. For example, I absolutely adore the Genei Ryodan in Hunter X Hunter, as well as Hisoka, and Killua; at the same time I am fully aware of how evil they are and all the terrible deeds they've perpetuated. I just love them because they're such fascinating personalities, and in the case of the Ryodan, the contrast between their ruthless bloodshed and their fierce Nakama-hood is extremely attractive to me.

^^ Well, no, he wasn't. They hurt him bad, but he could simply come and tell Mercedes the truth and she'd just leave with him and the kid, unable to remain with her husband any longer. But noooo, he had to make them pay, like that's going to give him his lost years back. He got an awesome treasure in return for those years. Pioneers in the Wild West have endured far worse for far smaller fortunes, So Yeah, he should just forgive the bastards and get on with his life.
