  • "Alright, now Taylor Von Trope will bring us the forecast for the first week of February. Von Trope, what's the weather like?" "Thank you contributors. In celebration of National Weatherperson's Day on February 5th, we would alert tropers to be aware of Weather Report, a trope that, despite being launched in 2009, only has 55 wicks. Trope Report's body would like to remind tropers to add this trope to more work pages, given that these weather reports can be symbollic in the work's narrative. If this trope gets more attention, then maybe we will see some nice skies for the rest of the month. Back to you contributors."

Image Pickin' thread for The Proposition
Recently, there have been many Image Pickin' threads going on in the forum, mainly due to work pages that have been brought in having screenshots as the main image.

And guess what... I'm bringing in another work page with another screenshot image. (or screenshots image, given that it is one image with three screenshots)

(BTW, Stanley, in the third image from the screenshot, is not one of the brothers.)

Come play Character Uplift Game!
eroock Since: Sep, 2012
#7979: Jan 21st 2024 at 4:50:54 AM

Hi guys, I would lile to put my wick check tool to good use and prepare the random wick lists for the items on Sandbox.Wick Check Project under "Tropes Needing Wick Checks". If that's okay, where would I place and tag the lists to be used?

Example list of 100 wicks for Adaptation Personality Change
# Characters/PowerRangersRPMReGeared: Although Aaron still maintains Sosuke's "fiery" essence, he's marginally more mature… unless Raph is present.
# Fanfic/TransformationOfEverAfterHigh: In all media, Starscream is portrayed as a scheming Decepticon who wishes to overthrow Megatron. Here, he is shown as a loyal follower, and is noted to be his apprentice instead.
# VideoGame/{{Hades}}: A notoriously violent misanthrope in the myths, Poseidon instead acts as Zagreus’ bumbling Cool Uncle.
# YMMV/GarfieldAndFriends: Not many people know that U.S. Acres was a comic strip too, as it had a much shorter newspaper run than Garfield (it had ended before the second season even began). Fewer still know that there were two other characters, Cody the Dog and Blue the Cat, who had disappeared from the strip by the time the show was in production, or that there was some significant Adaptation Personality Change, such as Bo being more unintelligent and Sheldon having a more philosophical side.
# Characters/TheBoys2019SoldierBoy: He has little characterisation in the comics, but from the little it was shown, he was coward, childish and an incompetent fool. Ben on the other hand, is the very embodiment of the conservative macho man. He is arrogant, reckless, womanizer and a macho man.
# Characters/CatchYourBreath: Though Isobu gets very little screentime in Naruto, he comes across as a far more childlike character than he does in this story. The only explanation anyone can find is that Kei is a bad influence.
# Characters/MonsterVerseMonarch: In the film proper, he's portrayed as quite a calm man and is the only one who doesn't look away in dismay when Monarch is trying to fry the MUTO cocoon to death. The novelization instead portrays him as an exuberant Wide-Eyed Idealist who thinks the MUTO is the key to solving the world's energy crisis.
# Film/SonicTheHedgehog22022: Inverted for Tails in the same way it was for Knuckles in Sonic X. Tails having a lot of admiration for Sonic is actually Truer to the Text of his original concept from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (only apparent in the Japanese manual), despite his more low-key, close friend/brother to Sonic presentation in the localized Sonic Adventure games.
# ComicBook/TheAmazingWorldOfGumball: Anais in the series is a Only Sane Woman Snark Knight that just wants friends where in the books she's even more of an Insufferable Genius that besides ignoring friendship is unpleasant.Gumball is much closer to his Season 1 counterpart and is a lot kinder (ironically Darwin gains most of his trademark snark) than in the show despite being more egotistical. Except the very few times he isn't when he arguably becomes the evilest character in the comic book.
# Characters/XMenFilmSeriesHumansNewTimeline: Weasel in the comics is a Butt-Monkey who is the subject of Deadpool's abuse, even if the Merc with a Mouth genuinely considers him his friend. Weasel in the movie is free/immune of any abuse, physical or verbal, from Deadpool. In fact, the biggest difference is the movie version's willingness to talk back to Wade and insult him to his face, something Comics!Weasel is hesitant to do.
# Characters/SuperSmashBrosBrawl27To31: In 3DS/Wii U onwards, aside from a victory pose where he flashes a V-Sign, he's never seen smiling. This is a stark contrast to Uprising, where, despite Pit having a serious expression on the game's box art◊ and his official character art◊, he's still a loveable goofball most of the time. But in Smash, he never breaks from his stoic demeanor, even in his side taunt, which has him cockily say, "That all you got?"Brawl, however, has Pit smile a lot more, specifically in his render◊ and victory poses. Even still, he still has a stern expression most of the time.
# PlayingWith/AdaptationPersonalityChange: Edit Page
# CanonDiscontinuity/ComicBooks: The Sonic X comic is a curious case. As is the norm with comic tie-ins to cartoons in general, it was utterly ignored by the show it was based on, and the comic even had glaring continuity issues and inconsistent characterizations with the Anime since issue #1. However, the editorial behind the Sonic X comic was also the publisher of Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics), and they had the two titles cross over, establishing that the Sonic X comic exists in the Archie Sonic universe as an alternate universe. In other words, the tie-in comic is non-canon to the Anime it's based on, but is perfectly canon to the completely unrelated Archie Sonic continuity.
# Characters/{{Hadestown}}: One steady change that's progressed through every version of the show is making Orpheus less and less of a confident, seductive ladies' man and more and more of an Endearingly Dorky head-in-the-clouds naive boy. This led to Hermes becoming an increasingly important character, to be the one who explains things Orpheus doesn't understand, to the point of them almost being a Decomposite Character (i.e. the original concept version of "Epic I" has Orpheus know the whole story of Hades and Persephone already as opposed to Hermes having taught it to him).
# Characters/MarvelFutureFight: Like the MCU, her bio presents her as a technological-focused inventor. Despite this, her non-uniformed appearance is much more in line with her mysticism and traditional Wakandan comics self.
# Recap/TheOuterLimits1995S7E8ThinkLikeADinosaur: Michael Burr is already rather morose when he meets Kamala Shastri as he is mourning the death of his wife Karen. In the short story by James Patrick Kelly, he is much more gregarious since there is no mention of him having experienced such a tragedy.
# Characters/YozakuraQuartet: His first exposure to tuning in the 2008 anime, as detailed in Adaptation Personality Change. Somewhat averted in the main series, as his witnessing Machi's tuning didn't impart any long-lasting damage to his psyche.
# BaseBreakingCharacter/{{Pokemon}}: Lusamine, again based upon comparisons to the games. Some people love her Adaptational Heroism, quirkier personality and the bond she has with her family, while others who feel it downplays the games' first female Big Bad and one of the most twisted villains the series has ever had. Basically, the division comes down to how the anime handles Lusamine as a character as a whole vs. Lusamine as a villain. The fact that Faba took her place as main antagonist is also a point of contention for some, citing that we'd already seen manipulative schemers like him before with Cyrus, Colress and Lysandre. Then there are fans who are outright angry that the first female main antagonist of the games was the only one shafted in favor of another character.
# AdaptationPersonalityChange/AnimeAndManga: Edit Page
# Characters/MCURunaways: This Alex seems more vulnerable and open with his friends than his comic book counterpart. Notably, in the comics Alex was actively against hanging out with the others prior to them learning about their parents, while here, he's very desperate to bond with them. His prior friendship with Amy likely played a role.
# Film/TheWorldOfSuzieWong: Suzie in the book is far more cynical and combative. Nancy Kwan saw her as more of The Pollyanna who was more hopeful about improving her situation, so she's a Wide-Eyed Idealist in parts.
# WesternAnimation/BigNate: Teddy's less mature and more mischievous compared to his book/comic self, making him more distinct from Francis. An example would be from "Go Nate, It's Your Birthday" where he gives Francis a purple nurple, in the middle of Nate freaking out about accidentally maxing out his dad's credit card. Francis even calls him out for it. Jenny is more apathetic and snobbish, as opposed to her book/comic self where she's a normal girl who's just really annoyed by Nate. An example would be from "The Valentine's Day of Horror" where she is shown completely unconcerned with her fellow classmates getting sick, only wanting to get home.
# YMMV/RudolphsLessonsForLife: While Rudolph has always been shy and awkward in every media starring him. In this adaptation, Rudolph is notably cheerful alongside given a cute squeaky and nasally voice.
# Characters/MyHeroAcademiaMechanicalGreen: Thanks to getting therapy, being taken out of her previous abusive environment, and not becoming a slave to the urges brought on by her Quirk, Himiko is a lot more mentally stable and genuinely cheerful, regularly forming a trio of gadflies with Mina and Toru. It is somewhat still a mask though, as she hides a lot of self-loathing and fear that she's still working through, and worries about potentially relapsing if she gets exposed to too much blood.
# Characters/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM: In the original games, he was a silly and childish, yet competent and effective Mad Scientist. Here he's a downright scary Diabolical Mastermind.
# Characters/LegendarilyPopular: Is a much kinder character than in canon, in part due to Ash having many cute Pokémon. She even becomes his companion in Sinnoh.
# Anime/DevilMayCryTheAnimatedSeries: In the games, Dante is a wisecracking wild man, who always fights like he's having the time of his life. The anime made him far more laid back, and took away most of his personality quirks in the process. He also gripes more about not getting paid for his work, whereas several lines in the first game indicate that he's not that concerned about money. Lady is considerably more laid-back and sarcastic compared to her persona in the third game where she was an intense and focused Determinator driven by revenge. Justified, as that game saw her in the middle of a very personal conflict, but now that this conflict is resolved, she no longer needs to push herself so hard.
# Fanfic/MyHeroAcademiaMechanicalGreen: As a result of the Avalon War badly scarring her and so many other female heroes quitting due to caring more about sex appeal than heroics, Uwabami is a lot less vain and more professional here than in canon, focusing less on having her interns model with her and more on actually teaching the business side of heroics to them. When Itsuka actually asks about rumors suggesting internships with her would be more like canon, Uwabami explains that's more a misconception caused by Shoowaysha Publishing's attempt at discrediting her, and that the only ones who appear in commercials with her are her sidekicks. It's implied the change in personality partially stems from her being confronted by her own mortality, as she admits to her interns she's likely going to die in ten to fifteen years from the genetic instability being hit by Mutator caused, suggesting she wants to be an actual hero rather than just a model.
# Characters/TheVampireDiariesUniverseElenaGilbert: Elena is a mature Nice Girl at the beginning of the series, and a lot more pleasant than the snobbish Alpha Bitch she started out as in novels.
# Characters/DragonBallKale: In the anime, she is a shy and insecure young girl who feels she couldn't measure to the skills of her sister figure. In the manga, she is a stoic bodyguard to Caulifla who knows she is the stronger of the two, but doesn't tell Caulifla in order to not harm her pride.
# Fanfic/ThisGoddessMustBeCrazy: Surprisingly, Bakugo gets this. In his adventure he learns things that affect his own personality. While he still swears, is crass and is as rude as he is in canon, he now sees the power of teamwork and obeys Iris, somewhat reluctantly, when he usually doesn't listen to people. He also showed anger when he thought the Kazuma Gang were enemies, thinking Izuku had been replaced by an impostor.
# Characters/NeoWorldProgramMonitorFormerHopesPeakStudents: He's given more personality and depth to his character then in canon as he's a simple guy that is optimistic that isn't best with technology but seems very caring and kind hearted as he was brought in to help Nagi to bring food to Jabberwock Island.
# WebVideo/ModernWarGearSolid: Snake is more of a goof whose personality quirks, such as his fondness for cardboard boxes and occasionally perverted tendencies, are brought up to eleven.
# VideoGame/SpyroReignitedTrilogy: While he was never a good guy to begin with, thanks to the graphical upgrades in Reignited Trilogy, Moneybags is made out to be much more of a Smug Snake than he was in the original games.
# Characters/OshiNoKo: Abiko is an extremely shy perfectionist who is always wary of letting people mess with her creations, which prompts her to be very unprofessional with those she works with. Even outside of that, she tends to be shy and can't proficiently communicate with people she doesn't know. The stage play adaptation of Tokyo Blade is suddenly thrown into chaos 20 days before the premiere, as Abiko was extremely angry with the script because, in her opinion, all of her characters went through Adaptation Personality Changes that make her characters look like idiots. She has voiced her complaints multiple times, but her intent was misunderstood by all personnel in-between. It was pushed to the point where Abiko views the initial theater script as garbage and threatens to withdraw her rights from the stage adaptation if she isn't allowed to completely rewrite the script.
# Characters/{{Avernum}}: In the original game, Midori is a nondescript Flat Character at most. In the remake she has a more defined personality.
# Fanfic/SilentShadow: Downplayed. Kuro is more confident than he was in canon, to the point of giving the occasional snarky comment. When Stain was speaking with Shigaraki about there potential alliance: Stain: Will you become a tree that stands the tests of time or a mere weed among the rest of the weeds? Kuro: Shigaraki’s a plant?
# Characters/HeatGuyJ: In the manga, he's not as into lobbing grenades, and not as concerned about impressing his deceased father. And although described on the back cover as being "unstable," really isn't, the way he is in the anime. He also doesn't seem to have the physical and mental health problems he does in the anime, and even has a girlfriend.
# Characters/MCUCitizensNewYorkCityMidtownSchoolOfScienceAndTechnology: In the comics, he's a Jerk Jock who physically bullies and humiliates the nerdy Peter Parker because he can. Here, because Midtown is a science school, he's a wealthy, academic-minded Nerdy Bully who resents that Peter is smarter than he is and constantly tries to one-up him.
# Characters/TheGreatMouseDetective: Downplayed. While not as extreme as most of the other examples on the trope list in question, in the original Basil of Baker Street book series, he wasn't the Mood-Swinger he is in the movie.
# Characters/StarfleetRedone: All of them are given more characterization than in the original fic.
# Characters/MobileSuitGundamTheOrigin: To a degree bordering on Adaptation Personality Change, as while original-flavor Gihren was also A Nazi by Any Other Name, his motives were less rooted in any ideology and more in his own greed and lust for domination (to the point of even inspiring a famous JRPG series titled Gihren's Greed). This Gihren, on the other hand, is explicitly driven by Zeon Zum Deikun's Super Supremacist teachings, making him less of an outright megalomaniac and more of an extreme version of this trope.
# Characters/ASecondChance: Rita is much more cynical and disgruntled here, due to years of having to deal with her children’s maddening antics. She has grown so disillusioned with her daughters that she has become habituated to seeing the worst in them, leading to Cassandra Truth moments. Lynn Sr., on the other hand, amps up his Bumbling Dad tendencies, to the point of being comically meek and ineffectual and has to be guided by his own children (Lincoln and Lynn) into being more assertive and enacting his authority.
# Series/Lucifer2016: Lucifer, Amenadiel and Mazikeen all have drastically different personalities from their comic counterparts. See the character page for more details.
# Fanfic/EveryonesBrandNewAndImprovedKillingGameSemester: Everybody has a different talent and backstory, leading to mildly different personalities all around.
# Characters/TheAnimalsOfFarthingWood: Goes from loyal and fearless in the books to obnoxious and a scaredy-cat in the show.
# Characters/SuperPaperMario: In the Super Mario-Kun manga, she's a Genki Girl. This contrasts her game personality, where she’s quite reserved.
# Film/BicentennialMan: The film expands the role of Sir compared to the original story. He begins mentoring Andrew, providing personal guidance and social instruction, In addition to changing his job, he also changes his reaction to Andrew's request for freedom, banishing him from the house instead of taking him to court to make sure Andrew is legally recognized as a free robot instead of a member of the Servant Race.
# MagnificentBastard/FilmOToS: Jacob Marley, in contrast to his passive and self-loathing original literary incarnation, is here reinvented as a gleefully active participant in the Three Ghosts' psychodrama for Scrooge. Not content with simply delivering the Ghosts' message to Scrooge, Marley additionally opts to drag him kicking and screaming into the sky to see the damned souls, of which he will become one if he isn't quick to mend his ways. Marley later reappears at the end of the film in Scrooge's final vision of himself in Hell, and takes a great deal of pleasure in taunting Scrooge over his failures on Earth. He takes his crestfallen partner on a tour of the inferno and informs him that he has been selected as personal clerk to Satan himself, then watches as Scrooge is bound to the point of immobility with a massive chain. At the end of the vision, Marley refuses to help Scrooge even when he begs for it, and it's this that finally scares Scrooge straight once and for all.
# ComicBook/SheHulk: Jennifer Walters, generally, was considered to be a mousy and reserved woman. The adaptation She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, however, has all of Jen's bossiness and snark as things she enjoys in her human form.
# Characters/XMenFilmSeriesApocalypseAndHisFollowers: This version of Apocalypse presents himself as affable and soft-spoken, and only hams up in peak moments, like when furious or making a point. This is a stark contrast to the comics, where Apocalypse is known for being bombastic and threatening since the first minute and pretty much all the time, as well as an illustrious owner of No Indoor Voice manners. He also lacks the more virtuous traits of his comic book counterpart, as he is an outright Power Parasite and has pronounced streaks of cowardice and underhandedness when he is in trouble, whereas comic book Apocalypse consistently holds himself to his own beliefs and fights to the bitter end.
# Characters/InfinityTrainWakeMeUpInfinityTrain: This Hazel is much more sardonic and snarky than her canonical counterpart, which makes sense since she's not only Hazel after the events of Book 3, but is under the watch of Amelia.
# Characters/RingingBell: A noteworthy change that sets the anime apart from the other versions of the story. In the climax of the book and its variations, Chirin ambushes Woe, confessing that he had been training to kill him, implying that he had not been completely turned. After doing the deed, he realizes that revenge did not bring him any happiness. In the anime, Chirin has been fully corrupted by Woe and has apparently given up his revenge for a life of hunting with the Wolf King. He is willing to murder his own kind, but thanks to a mother sheep defending her baby from him, he redeems himself, somewhat. It is this change that muddies the moral of the story.
# Recap/AmericanGodsS1E2TheSecretOfSpoons: Bookverse Mr. Nancy was invariably fun-loving and laid back. Mr. Nancy's first scene in the series has him spitting a furious speech about what America has in store for African slaves and their descendants, inciting a 17th century ship full of slaves to break their chains, slit the throats of their enslavers, and burn the boat down.
# Characters/VampirePrincessMiyu: Her personality varies greatly between continuities. In the OVA, Miyu is portrayed as a twisted, whimsical trickster who presents herself in a grandiloquent manner and enjoys toying with people. In stark contrast, the TV series shows her as serious, collected and soft-spoken, as well as much more caring and kind-hearted. Her manga personality, finally, could be considered an intermediate step between both, albeit featuring a certain amount of sensitivity and self-doubt that is not present in any.
# Characters/SonicPrime: This Sonic is significantly more hot-headed, impulsive and borderline hyperactive compared to his more thoughtful, snarky and laid-back game incarnation. In some aspects, his personality is more akin to that of his live-action movie incarnation than that of the games.
# Characters/CatchTwentyTwo: In the book, Major —— de Coverley is The Voiceless and cuts such an impressive figure that no one dares speak to him even though he doesn't seem to do anything useful. When he does speak, it's in broken English, suggesting that he's actually dimwitted. In the miniseries, however, he's an erudite man who, while still visibly imposing holds regular conversations with people and conducts military business around the local community.
# Characters/TransformersShatteredGlass2021: The original SG Megatron was much more idealistic and outwardly happy. IDW's Megatron had a much more reserved and less optimistic view on life even before he Took a Level in Cynic.
# AscendedExtra/AnimeAndManga: Lust's role in the anime was greatly expanded along with getting a personality change. In the original manga she was mostly as a sadist who enjoyed manipulating and killing humans in cruel ways, and was ultimately killed off fairly early in the story (with all the other homunculi surviving into the final arc). Compare this to her anime counterpart, who not only lives longer, but eventually has a character arc where she begins longing for a soul of her own.
# WesternAnimation/FacesMusicParty: Downplayed with Face. While they're definitely still prone to being giddy at times, they're much more laid back and relaxed than in the original bumpers.
# Characters/AmbienceAFleetSymphonySeven: she might act similar to her goofy canon self outside of combat, but in combat, Pola becomes all business.
# Characters/DragonBallOtherWorld: In Fusion Reborn, he's more prone to losing his cool than in the anime.
# Characters/SabrinaTheTeenageWitch: In the comics and the pilot movie, she was the responsible aunt, while Zelda was the ditzy one.
# Characters/TotalCommand: Her dominatrix personality is more a mask she plays and she's significantly less aggressive about relationships when not in her dominatrix personality, especially when it comes to Izuku.
# Characters/SpiderManSpiderVerseAntagonists: In the comics, Green Goblin/Norman is an intelligent, scheming, and manipulative criminal mastermind who often exerted his superiority over other supervillains. This incarnation is shown to be more of a dumb brute who is one of Kingpin's mooks.
# Characters/ResidentEvilAdaWong: A variant, in that both versions are in the same medium. In the original Resident Evil 2, Ada is coy, flirtatious, and manipulative, in an effort to reinforce her cover. In the 2019 remake of that game, she is cold, curt, professional, and doesn't really try to hide what she is.
# Pantheon/{{Derivatives}}: Superman Substitute, Flying Brick, Costume Based On the American Flag, Jerkass, Dumb Muscle, Being Smarter and More Mature In The TV Show, Sexual Extortion (Though Against Flat-out Rape), Nice Character, Mean Actor, Tyrannical Smug Super Supremacist, Implied to Have Been a Decent Person Once, Gaslit by Black Noir Into Becoming a Monster, Suffered a Massive Breakdown Upon Learning the Truth, Was Killed by Black Noir Shortly Afterwards
# Manga/SonicTheHedgehog1992: The manga by Kenji Terada, Hirokazu Hikawa and Koichi Tanaka refer to Nicky's sister as Tania (タニア). However, the manga by Sango Morimoto refers to her as Anita (アニタ). In at least one late story, Amy was shown with the last name Rose (and apparently developed an interest in fortune telling), which she received from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.
# VisualNovel/DokiDokiSwitcheroo: While the characters for the most part remain the same, they have different personalities traits or in the case of Mateo, very different. Unlike the original Monika's friendly personality, Mateo is much more arrogant and rude towards the protagonist, which is revealed in Act 3 that it was a cover by Mateo as he had feelings for the protagonist. Yuuri likes fire instead of knives, the female protagonist is more of a delinquent than the original, Natsuko is much more romantic and flirts with the protagonist openly, and Satori, while still cheery and joyful, is more serious and mature than Sayori.
# Characters/MCUMultiversalVillains: In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, he was a mentally-ill nerd who developed a God complex upon gaining superpowers. In this movie, he's much more well-adjusted and confident, easily interacting with his surroundings and coming across as the most normal of the displaced villains after Sandman.
# Characters/YuGiOhDominoHighSchool: In the anime, he's a bit of a narcissist and a braggart, and tends to flip his hair and twirls his bangs. In the manga, he's more serious and quiet, and lacks the crush on Jonouchi's sister that his anime counterpart has later on.
# WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfIchabodAndMrToad: The segment retains the basic personalities of all the main characters from the novel, with the exception of Ratty. Wheras in the original novel and most other adaptations of the story, he is a considerably laidback and easygoing chap with a definite Bohemian streak (though not above expressing annoyance with Toad's overly reckless behavior), the Disney version turns him into a caring but incredibly stuffy and proper Englishman.
# Series/BraveNewWorld: John the Savage is quite changed from how he is in the book. He shows far less of a cultured air and unlike his book counterpart he has casual sex with a string of women (plus some men) very willingly. His book counterpart only had sex once in a moment of weakness after using Soma, and felt terrible about it afterward, as he only wanted to have serious, monogamous relationships. This also goes hand-in-hand with Adaptational Badass, as he's more successful in shaking up the society of New London and is quicker to use violence. Lenina is another recipient of this. In the book, she was a much more shallow and superficial character who barely thinks much deeper about how her society functions. In the series, she's more inquisitive and becomes far more actively defiant.
# Series/{{Chapelwaite}}: In the original story, James Boone founded the cult that worships the Worm. Here, he's a victim driven mad by De Vermis Mysteriis who just stumbled across the book by accident. His original role mostly goes to a new villain, Jakub.
# Characters/MCUDefenders: In the comics, Malcolm is a socially inept, mildly creepy Stalker with a Crush who repeatedly expresses inappropriate thoughts, and writes Daredevil off as a pussy because of his handling of his identity being outed. The show has him as a much nicer guy with much better social skills, with his creepiness being from his drug use and is only temporary, before he gets over it.
# Characters/LoveLiveNijigasakiHighSchoolIdolClub: In SIF, she's the Work to her sister Haruka's Play. Averted in the anime due to Kanata's drastic Adaptation Personality Change.
# Characters/TokyoMewMew: In the manga, Zakuro is The Quiet One, rarely speaking to anyone, including her teammates. The anime, besides having her be more talkative, makes her more of a savvy and blunt Cool Big Sis who can be harsh on her teammates, especially Minto, yet ultimately wants to help and advice them.
# Characters/RurouniKenshinRivalsAndVillains: The Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy demeanor is dropped entirely in the first OVA for all of them. None of Yaminobu members except for Tatsumi talk, letting their stealth and skill do the talking. As for Tatsumi, he's portrayed as a crafty and disciplined Old Master with none of his manga counterpart's hammy smugness. In Restoration they also undergo Adaptational Wimp and simply become arrogant small fries.
# WesternAnimation/SheRaAndThePrincessesOfPower: Madam Razz was an inept sorceress in the 1980s cartoon, but is a highly competent magic user (if a little senile) in the reboot. Unlike her 1980s counterpart, this Razz also has knowledge of major players and events (the First Ones, Mara, portal catastrophes) that the main characters lack. Catra was a vamp in the original cartoon, but isn't shown using feminine wiles in the reboot. Her personality is angrier, edgier, and more vulnerable in the reboot series. Scorpia is warm and nurturing in the reboot, in contrast to the cruel Scorpia of the 1980s cartoon. Hordak was loud, boorish, and quick to punish underlings in the 1980s cartoon. In the reboot, he's articulate, pragmatic, and coldly efficient.
# ComicBook/SonicX: Less of an intentional change and more of a result of the writer not fully grasping the characters' personalities, but the comic made Sonic less of an Aloof Ally and more of a goody-two-shoes, and gave Sam Speed a temper.
# Characters/PBGHardcore: Is noticibly more relaxed in Hardcore than in his usual videos, to the point his quieter voice can be a bit hard to recognize at first. Though, this does get subverted once the hardest part of the adventure is completed with getting the three Wither skulls, and even more once the group completed their goal.
# Characters/ShiftingWorldsAnathemusMythos: He was not written as crazy in the original The War Of Light And Darkness RP. His wacky personality has been added by SDM to justify some actions which were due to SDM's young age and the lighthearted nature of said RP.
# Fanfic/ChroniclesOfTheSirenWar: This version of Ark Royal is rewritten from a Comedic Lolicon to a loving, caring Parental Substitute for the child kansen (funnily enough making her more like Ark Royal Meta from canon).
# Characters/SwordArtOnlineKazutoKirigaya: In the light novels he had a more colorful personality with an existential philosophy and being a VR-geek, as opposed to his stoic attitude in the anime. In the game adaptation, Kirito is far less stoic and a great deal more dorky and lovable, frequently presented as being socially clueless while also being thrown into awkward situations he has no idea how to get out of.
# Characters/SonicTheHedgehogIDWTheRestoration: This incarnation of Shadow is portrayed as being far more rash and hard headed compared to his original counterpart in Sonic Forces, who followed the cold-headed stoic persona created by Shiro Maekawa. Compared to both Archie and the Adventure-era games, he's also far more no-nonsense, with less instances of him smiling and his dorkier and hammier moments diminished.
# FanGame/MarioDrinksAGlassOfMilk: Mario is depicted as being considerably more irritable than he is in canon, compared to how unflappably positive he normally is. Wario is presented as being much less brusque, simply trying to contact the Mario brothers for non-malicious reasons at the start of his game before witnessing events that spur him into action, and while he still maintains his sense of bravado, he's not completely dense and is unusually introspective and driven compared to how he usually is. Professor E. Gadd is depicted suffering from such a severe bout of loneliness after the events of Luigi's Mansion that he becomes obsessed with dairy products and for some reason invents a dimensional portal through which he meets Dr. Wily who helps him creates his factory heads to aid his takeover of the milk industry.
# Fanfic/CafeLiegeois: Unlike in canon, Kristoff doesn't like reindeer.
# Music/AlvinAndTheChipmunks: Alvin and the Chipmunks, as well as The Chipettes experience this with almost every new incarnation. While the characters have experienced some natural Character Development over the years (especially true of the 1980s cartoon series), they have also experienced complete changes in their personalities when it comes to the more recent live action/CGI movies. For example, Simon goes from being Deadpan Snarker with biting sarcasm to having a less cerebral sense of humor with a underlying perverted streak; Theodore's innocence and naivete not only becomes a thing of flanderization, but he also becomes more absent-minded (much like Jeanette usually is); and Brittany is hardly the Alpha Bitch diva that she's been known for in previous incarnations.
# Characters/RecordOfRagnarokTheEinherjar: In regards to the usual Chronic Backstabbing Disorder and jerkassery that was portrayed in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, this version of Lü Bu is only interested in becoming the strongest warrior and is only a quiet, if not gruff man.
# Characters/FromTheNewWorld: Due to her Adaptation Personality Change in the manga, Maria is a lot clingier and more possessive towards Saki than she is in the novel or the anime.
# WebVideo/MacrossAbridged: Almost everyone.
# Manga/NeonGenesisEvangelion: Shinji is more assertive and outspoken here. For instance, after the Unit-03 incident he almost punches Gendo and has to be held back by Kaji. In the anime, Shinji simply looked at his father with quiet disdain. This also means that his relationship with Asuka is arguably betternote their conflicts come off more like mutual bickering/Vitriolic Best Buds instead of the bullying/mix of attraction and resentment in the anime while with Kaworu, it's arguably worse.note Shinji is put off by Kaworu's interest, though YMMV if this is ultimately worse than the co-dependency they shared in the anime
# Characters/SonicBoomTeamSonicAndFriends: Unlike the more serious and temperamental version from the main series, he's goofy, somewhat moronic, and easygoing.
# Characters/TheGreatAceAttorney: While both versions of the Great Detective are eccentric geniuses, how they're eccentric differentiates. The original version of Holmes wasn't without quirks, but for the most part, he was The Stoic, and preferred to keep to himself. Sholmes is rather expressive, openly The Gadfly, and doesn't seem to have any problem with being around others; he even goes out of his way to help Ryunosuke and Susato when they're looking for lodgings in London.
# Fanfic/GrimmFall: Many of the characters of cartoons here in GrimmFall have much more serious personality or being more mature. While they still have plenty of good traits from their canon version, here in the story they're a bit different.
# Recap/AvengersAssembleS4E22Westland: Comics Hawkeye is a major Wild West nut, and has even time travelled back there of his own free will on occasion. Here... not remotely.
# Anime/AnimalCrossingTheMovie: Whitney is a snooty villager in the games. Snooty villagers often act like jerks and are self centered. Whitney in the movie is significantly nicer than in the games, though she seems cold and aloof. Like Whitney, Apollo is also more aloof and quiet in the film. In the games, he's a cranky villager (essentially the male version of snooty). Cesar and Cyrano, two other cranky villagers who appear in the film, are much closer to their game counterparts. Margie is a normal villager in the games. Despite their name, they're anything but in Wild World, which the movie is based on. They're odd and neurotic animals who are friends with a mop. Margie in the movie is calm and into fashion.
# Anime/ValkyriaChronicles: Some of the character's personalities in the game are different in the anime. (eg. Alicia in the game is a smart, understanding and professional soldier, while in the anime, she is easy to anger, prone to misunderstanding and is a Tsundere). Furthermore, some of their sillier and unsavory traits are exaggerated like Rosie's racism and Welkin's love of nature.
# Characters/PowerRangersWingForce: Carrie is a lot more snarky than Kaori was.
# Characters/TheSandman2022: Abel's iconic stutter has been replaced with a more complex lack of speech fluidity; he'll repeat words, pause between sentences, and sometimes search for words. He's also more upbeat and cheerful despite his constant murders, always looking on the bright side and seeing the good in everyone. Cain is a lot less hammy than his comic book counterpart, more tired by the murders he undertakes on a daily basis. Most notably, the first thing Cain does in the show is to offer his own life up to save his pet, making him much more endearing to the audience than the classic horror host.

  • When most of us tropers were kids, we probably had witnessed a character from a film, cartoon, or video game who we found... oddly attractive. Sometimes, when we look back at nostalgia, we might wonder to ourselves if our fictional love-interests still hold up today. If you had a crush on a character when you were young, and wish to express it, come visit Ever had a crush on a fictional character?

Diggory and Polly had the rings. The plan was to transfer them to Eustace and Jill so they could go to Narnia after Eustace and Jill heard a plea from the Narnian king for aid. The characters were operating under the assumption that the rings would still work. They didn't end up trying, though, because of the train accident derailing things.

Peter and Edmund had the Rings. After Tirian appears before them as an apparition, the friends of Narnia decide they need to get back there to help with whatever is going on. The Rings are the only way they can do it, but the house in London they were buried at was sold long ago so they can't just waltz into the yard and grab them. So Peter and Edmund sneak over before dawn and start digging before anyone notices. After they find them, they call up Eustace and Jill to meet them so they can use the rings to get to Narnia and do whatever needs to be done.

The kids, the old folks, and Lucy are travelling together on the train and are going to rendezvous with Peter and Edmund at the station when "there came a most frightful jerk and a noise; and there we were in Narnia," with "We" being Eustace and Jill. Eustace confirms they never even saw the Rings.

As for if the others can use the Rings, the Eustace and Jill say this:

"So Peter and Edmund were to meet us two who were to go to Narnia, you see, because the older ones couldn't come again."

  • Thomas Mann was an early 20th century German novelist who had wrote numerous novels, novellas, and short stories, including Death in Venice, The Magic Mountain, and Buddenbrooks. While some of his stories went on to receive a few film adaptations, and Mann had received the 1929 Nobel Prize in Literature, he does not have a page on this wiki yet.

  • As Winter passes in the Northern Hemisphere, you may notice outside that the sad, monochrome snow is starting to disappear, and the environment is on a quest to reveal lovely shades of pink, blue, yellow, and green again. Spring really is Coloring in the World! This trope, launched on February 12, revolves around the plot of characters trying to return or bring color into a monochromatic world or area, either literally or metaphorically.
