Desperate Escape is a 2017 top-down Roguelike Dungeon Crawler by Dave Microwaves Games.

Your character wakes up in a warehouse, armed with a torch. Navigate through the complex to find car parts to fix up a truck to escape, but watch out for the monsters around every corner.

This game uses the following tropes:

  • Anti-Frustration Features: Along with whatever ambient noises they make, a short track will play whenever you enter a room with a monster in it.
  • Dash Attack: Upon seeing you, most monsters will do one of these for a One-Hit Kill.
  • Dungeon Crawling: The gameplay involves the player navigating the dark, dungeon-like warehouse to search for car parts while trying to survive.
  • Jumpscare: Getting caught by a monster results in a still of them appearing on screen with a roar before the player gets sent back to the main menu.
  • One-Hit-Point Wonder: Every monster does a One-Hit Kill, and the player can't acquire armour or protection.
  • Permadeath: Getting killed by a monster results in the player losing all car parts they were carrying and being reset back to the starting room.
  • Randomly Generated Levels: There are several presets for rooms, and the game will pick random ones to place together.
  • Stealth-Based Game: The player has no method to fight back against the monsters, so upon entering a room with one you need to turn off your torch to avoid being seen.
  • Top-Down View: The player character and the warehouse are seen from directly above by the player, allowing them to see over walls and obstacles in a room.
  • Unintentionally Unwinnable: A car part won't respawn after being collected, even if you're no longer carrying it, and while the truck respawns if you pass its room, it won't keep its parts. This means that using a part on the truck and then continuing softlocks the round.
  • You Are Already Dead: You can still move while being chased by a monster, but their quick chasing speed and One-Hit Kill means you're unlikely to survive after being spotted.
