Strange Terror From Beyond The Stars! is a 2018 Survival Horror game by Dave Microwaves Games. The game had a standalone sequel in Strange Terror From The Deep, which had an underwater theme instead of one of outer space.
This game, set in Deliberate VHS Quality, has you play as Jay in a space station laboratory, and trying to escape when a random alien or otherwise space-themed monster breaks in and destroys the place. It's up to you to find an escape.
The game is also notable for having help from some of Dave's friends, such as Micro Horror Arcade, who voices Jay.
This game has the grand space-age tropes such as:
- Abandoned Laboratory: The lab is broken apart and mostly empty, just you and the monster.
- Air-Vent Passageway: The lab has many vents the player can crawl through to sneak around.
- Alone with the Psycho: Besides the small pocket of humans locked in the closet, the lab is empty except for you and whichever monster is chosen.
- Deliberately Monochrome: The entire game's style is in black and white.
- Monochrome to Color: The game features an unlockable setting to enable color.
- Deliberate VHS Quality: The entire game style is this, complete with static occasionally.
- Retraux: The game is set in the style of an old game from the 80s, though it was released in the late 2010s.
- Self-Insert: Dave himself appears in-game as "Dave Micromonster".
- Run or Die: Trying to confront any of the monsters directly is basically asking to get killed.
- Multiple Endings: The game features multiple endings, ranging from your entire crew surviving to everyone and the monster dying.
- We Will Use Lasers in the Future: If the right steps are taken, the player can gain access to a sweet laser gun.
- Interface Screw: "Squid Made of Tar" has the ability to heavily darken the player's vision during chase.
- A.I. Is a Crapshoot: "Rouge Tinfoil Robot" is a dangerous machine that, if its name is to be believed, likely went evil.
- Blob Monster: Take three guesses why "The Blob" featured in this game fits this trope.
- Schmuck Bait: The Blob can set up fake keycards that will bring The Blob to the player if approached.
