For The Simpsons - One-Time Characters (season 17 folder, character: Melanie Upfoot)

  • Hypocrite: She is nominated new school principal after Skinner making a sexist statement about women’s math skills. But when Melanie took over as the math teacher for the girls, however, she did not teach math; she used the subject for female empowerment, talking about "how numbers make you feel," "what does a plus sign smell like" and "is the number seven odd, or just different".
  • Straw Feminist: Melanie is a sexist woman, favouring the girls and not caring in the slightest about the boys. She lets the boy side of the school get dirty and look like a gang scene in a ghetto neighborhood, with broken equipment. She also had a cage door put in the back of the bus for boys to travel like criminals while the girls rode normally.

How to Write an Example - Write in Historical Present Tense

How does this example make Melanie Upfoot a Hypocrite? In order to qualify for that trope, a person must not "practice what they preach". In other words, they must say one thing and do another. All she does is describe math terms in a flowery "feel good" way. Where does she say anything inconsistent with this?

If you're basing this on information in the Straw Feminist example, you need to copy it over to the Hypocrite example. Under How to Write an Example - Remember That This Is A Wiki, examples should not depend on information that's on other parts of the page.

Adding some words for Battle Butler page, Video Games section:

  • Many Stage 5 bosses are the Battle Butlers of the stage 6 ones. There is Sakuya in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Youmu in Perfect Cherry Blossom, Reisen in Imperishable Night, Sanae in Mountain of Faith, Shou in Undefined Fantastic Object, Futo in Ten Desires... and then Subterranean Animism totally inverts it: the Stage 5 and 6 are the pets of the Stage 4 boss (altough some could said that Rin, the Stage 5 boss of the game is an old friend of Utsuho, the final stage boss' game, so she definitely fits the archetype). Similarly, the stage 5 boss of Double Dealing Character Seija is the actual perpetrator, with the final boss Shinmyoumaru being someone she tricked. In Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, on the other hand, the stage 5 boss Clownpiece is the subordinate of the Bonus Boss Hecatia and has been empowered by final boss Junko. Hidden Star in Four Seasons brings back the tradition with the introduction of not only one, but two battle butlers named Satono Nishida and Mai Teireida as penultimate bosses.

This one for Promoted to Playable:

  • By the release of Hidden Star in Four Seasons, the sixteenth main game, this tradition so far is broken with the addition of Cirno and Aya Shameimaru, the Stage 2 boss from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and Stage 4 boss from Mountain of Faith respectively, as the additional playable characters.

And this one for Touhou in Darker and Edgier page, video games section:

  • By the end of manga, it is revealed that the whole events Kosuzu experienced throughout the story is pretty much a walking lesson for her why humans and youkai are closer than she thought, and much to her rejoice, Reimu and the others accepted her as a part of Gensokyo society.

  • Expy: Her role in the game is pretty much a love letter to Tsurubami Senri, as both are powerful individuals and the culprits of their respective games who are secretly messing with some of their respective Fantasy Kitchen Sinks' inhabitants to see if one them were capable of taking Tsurubami's current job as a priest of Senri Shrine and Okina's servant, respectively. In Okina's case, her true main goal is making every single inhabitants in Gensokyo (including her fellow sages Yukari and Kasen) to remember her name as one of creators of Gensokyo.

  • Fridge Brilliance: In "Iron Law", It make senses why Sakamoto Ryoma and his companions has to leave the Satsuma's residence early instead of waiting for two weeks to depart is because his encounter with the Revisionists, he realize it's not safety to lay low in Kyoto. It's a good thing that Ryoma and his companions left early since the Revisionists had already burn down the Satsuma's residence as they thought Ryoma was staying at the Satsuma's residence. If he haven't left the Satsuma's residence early, he would have been killed by the Revisionists along with his companions.

  • Homage: In "Iron Law" , the scene where the Satsuma's residence is burn down caused by the Reivionists, is similar to the final episode of "Fate/Zero" since the main protagonist only managed to rescue a young boy after the fire, a while Horikawa can only manage to saved a young girl after the destruction of Satsuma's residence.

[up]Grammatically, that's okay, but it fails to demonstrate the trope. Not-So-Harmless Villain requires a specific event when the character demonstrates that they are way more dangerous than people believed, and the example must explain that event at the very least.

As an illustrative example, in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, there's a scene where the villain, who has been ineffectual up until that point, suddenly decides to up the stakes in response to constant provocation and builds a Death Ray, which he uses in the final act.

[up]I see. How does this look?

  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Glomgold’s over the top bombastic personality, shallow charm and transparently desperate attempts to one up Scrooge; hides a surprisingly cunning and resourceful mind, and a complete disregard for the rights and lives of anyone other than himself. Throughout his introductory episode he comes across as comedic, somewhat affable and out of his depth compared to Scrooge. Then he casually pulls a gambit that even Scrooge is forced to admit is brilliant planning, and nearly manages to murder Scrooge, Donald, the children and his own henchmen in one fail swoop.
