Changed verbs to present tense as per How to Write an Example - Write in Historical Present Tense.

During Ash's first battle with Roark, he faces a significant setback due to the extraordinary jumping skills of Cranidos. Ash's attempts to attack or dodge from the air are futile, and he ends up losing the match. However, in their second encounter, Ash uses his Turtwig's cunning tactics to trick Rampardos into jumping, leaving it vulnerable to be defeated by Razor Leaf. As a result, Ash emerges victorious in the rematch.

As a result, Pikachu and Turtwig finally make an enormous effort to take it down.

Ash's defeat is sealed due to the severe damage inflicted by Cranidos inflicts on Pikachu and Turtwig. This makes it easier for Roark's powerful Onix to knock them out, especially with its incredible speed and surprise Screech counterattack. Ultimately, it is too much for both of them to handle.

In his first battle against Ash, Roark emerges victorious, <- comma with two of his three Pokémon still standing. This is largely due to Cranidos' efforts, who manages to weaken Ash's team enough for Onix to finish them.

Although Ash and his team put up a valiant fight against Roark and even manage to defeat Cranidos, the fossil Pokemon's exceptional battling skills and stamina catch Ash by surprise too many times, resulting in a crushing 2-3 defeat.

...which inflicts severe long-term damage on Ash's team. Aipom is quickly knocked out and Pikachu and Turtwig are pushed to their limits. By the time Cranidos is defeated, Ash realizes it has taken too much time and effort to defeat Roark's Signature Mon. As a result, Onix has no trouble knocking out Ash's remaining team members.

An important aspect of Ash's defeat is the relentless attacks from Roark's Pokemon, particularly Cranidos, which make it difficult for Ash's team to dodge and result in a lot of accumulated damage that severely cripples their chances of winning.

After several attempts to defeat the Five Elders, Luffy, Dorry, and Broggy realize that their attacks are not causing any significant damage. Even when hit by their own strikes, the Elders kept rejuvenating quickly. Frustrated, Luffy calls for a retreat on Egghead.

@ Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning

  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content: Many fans feel that the first (out of three) alternate endings is better than the final version, due to giving Chrisse a more ambiguous, Nothing Is Scarier fate compared to the Ass Pull one in the finished film and having a powerful and terrifying montage showcasing the scope and heartbreak of the Hewitts' future crimes.

@ Star Wars: The Living Force

  • Bittersweet Ending: On the sweet side, the Jedi succeeded in restoring a lot of hope and order to the region, redeeming a few criminals, and bringing down plenty of criminals without much loss of life. On the (far shorter but still meaningful) bitter side, the imprisoned Zilastra still hates the Jedi, Affably Evil Burlug and Unwitting Pawn Seneschal Voh are dead, and, worst of all, the Jedi miss one of their best chances to discover what Palpatine is up to and stop him in his tracks.
  • The Creon: Most pirate gangs experience regular leadership changes and have little loyalty amongst the lieutenants, but Zilastra's right-hand man, Burlug, once led their gang before voluntarily stepping aside after recognizing her greater talent and ambition. He serves her faithfully even when their plans go poorly or her choices clash with his own morals and desires.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Zilastra grew up in poverty, losing loved ones to various circumstances, and being surrounded by crime, becoming a brutal pirate. Depa is sympathetic to her circumstances but points out to Kylah that "All three of us came from this regionnote . It didn't make either one of us turn out like her."
  • Let Them Die Happy: A local whom Yoda befriends asks him to deliver a med droid and some credits to his sick father, who idolizes the Jedi. Yoda does so and engages the old man in happy conversation until he dies, while carefully withholding any mention of how his beloved son is in the hospital with a serious wound after becoming involved with a crime syndicate to pay his father's medical bills.
  • Slice of Life: Much of the book focuses on how the people of a once prosperous but now struggling planet live their lives, and how the Jedi can affect those lives in different ways than their usual Knight in Shining Armor heroics (like by providing counseling, repair services, and labor dispute resolution, looking for misplaced texts, or spending time with a dying old man).
  • Small Name, Big Ego: The Lobber is a cocky pirate who delights in responsibility and getting to act smart, but he is a Butt-Monkey and (according to his friends) Know-Nothing Know-It-All (although he is ultimately more likable than most examples of the trope).
Wungo You're not the brains, and you're not the boss, Lobber. You're not anything. You're just louder.
  • Spanner in the Works: Zilastra is preparing to kill Depa Billaba when a Holonet News interview of Yaddle airs, and she is inspired to go after the whole Jedi Council instead and rig a voice-activated bomb to blow up when Yaddle utters a phrase she mentioned the Councilors would utter at a later date during the interview. This plan, in turn, probably would have gone smoothly if not for Guilt-Ridden Accomplice Kylah alerting the other Jedi that Depa needs rescuing, allowing them to figure out Zilastra's plan once Depa and the others poll information.
  • Watch the Paint Job: During the final battle, Saesee ominously tells the Mooks he is facing that the vintage starfighter he arrived in is a loaner, and none of them had better dare scratch it. None of them do.
  • Uriah Gambit: The Lobber, Ghor, and Wungo evoke so much Enraged by Idiocy sentiment from Zilastra that she keeps sending them on dangerous jobs where they are likely to be killed. When they keep surviving, she eventually gets so fed up that she prematurely arms the explosives she sends them to plant at a bureaucrat’s office in the hope that by the time they find the place, the timer will count down and blow them up. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan figure out what is happening and save the trio, who then help them hijack Zilastra's dropship.

@ Star Wars: The Living Force

  • Eeth getting an urgent call from a (female) acquaintance turned informant and calling another Councilor to analyze her message causes some of his peers to wonder if he is seeking relationship advice.
  • Zilastra and her goons are preparing to strike during a precise moment of a celebration and get increasingly exasperated about how the Jedi keep delaying it to allow more of their members to address the crowd (all the while secretly knowing what she is up to and deliberately stalling).

@ Star Wars: The Living Force

    Pre-Release Theories
  • The Trade Federation is name-dropped.
  • Jossed. If anything, the Jedi dislike being invoked in Senate affairs as much as they already are.
  • Zigzagged. Yaddle is fairly optimistic in this book, but whatever Cynicism Catalyst she has doesn’t happen here.

Post-Release Theories
The Lobber is a member of the Grahk Family.
  • Aside from Villie, the members who appear onscreen in the old canon do have some Stupid Crooks airs.
If Oppo survives the Great Jedi Purge, he spends at least part of his time hiding on Kwenn, which he feels even more connected to than his fellow Jedi at times.

General Veers will reflect on his meeting with Mace Windu in this book.

Darth Plageuis began stealing Jedi texts from outpost libraries in the past, before Palpatine ever did it with Voh.

Zilastra's childhood friends were siblings.
  • The odds that two out of three of the only orphans in an underfunded backwater orphanage are Force-sensitive would be a lot better if the two were related to each other.

If one or both of Zilastra's childhood friends did get accepted into the Jedi Order, one of them is Aurra Sing.
  • The age is about right. Her Back Story of having a Junkie Parent uninterested in raising her could support her being left at an orphanage rather than directly given to the Jedi, and it could make for an interesting future team-up if they ever reunite.

@ Manhunt (2024)

@ Manhunt (2024)

  • A Father to His Men: Colonel Conger refuses to rush the efforts to charge the cornered Booth and catch him a little faster, saying that as long as Booth can't escape, he won't let a single one of his men die when their war should already be over.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When David discusses surrendering in Garrett's barn, Booth calls him out for his cowardice and his constant mistakes throughout their attempts to flee South.
  • Taking the Heat: Booth tries to convince the Union troops who ultimately surround him that David was uninvolved in his assassination plot or efforts to escape, a claim that is both unsuccessful and implausible, given all the evidence there already is.

@ Manhunt (2024)

  • Stanton orders that Booth's body be examined by a coroner to confirm his death against any conspiracy theories and then dump his body in a swamp so no one can make his grave into a Confederate monument.
  • Stanton manages to convince Johnson to have Jefferson Davis indicted as a suspected member of the conspiracy (although concerns about the amount of evidence they have quickly weaken the resolve to try him).
  • Swann's refusal to testify against the surviving conspirators has some opportunism and hypocrisy to it, but he also gets in a cold dig about how he doesn't owe the federal government anything while they still only consider him 3/5ths of a human.

@ Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina

  • He's Just Hiding: Many fans like to imagine that some of Greedo's relatives on Nar Shadda (especially his little brother and Cool Uncle) evacuated their living area before it was destroyed in the crossfire of the battle that Greedo inadvertently instigated.

@ Ciaphas Cain

  • The fact that she officially retired at least temporarily from the military with honor and is still in a position to write her memoirs doesn't indicate any disgrace or megalomania.

Trolls Band Together:

  • Handshake Substitute: Throughout the film, John Dory, Bruce and Clay do a fist bump with each other as a sigh of their close brotherly bond. John Dory also does a fist bump with Poppy when he is impress with her optimism.
  • It's All My Fault: After realizing their mistakes, John Dory, Bruce and Clay come to blame themselves for exposing Branch and Floyd to danger, especially Floyd's capture and Branch's rough life.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • John Dory, Bruce and Clay have this reaction when they realize their selfish actions and their treatment of Branch has done nothing but hurt their youngest brother. However, John Dory, Bruce and Clay feel guilty even more for exposing Branch and Floyd to danger.
      • John Dory and Bruce are hit this trope the most, as they look at each other with regret when they not only realize that the words they said to Branch really, unintentionally, hurt his feelings, but realize how much he cared about them, Clay and Floyd, after Poppy shows them the drawing of Branch's bunker.

CommonKnowledge.Puyo Puyo

  • Puyo Puyo 7 is often mistaken to be the last "mainline" Puyo Puyo game, since it's the last numbered entry. However, the mainline series never stopped and the likes of 15th Anniversary, 20th Anniversary, Chronicle, etc. are just as much "mainline" as the first seven major games are. According to series producer Hosoyamada, they just stopped numbering the games after Puyo Puyo 7, with 15th Anniversary being officially the 8th game in the mainline series.

YMMV.Puyo Puyo:

Hide Your Lesbians:

  • Kill la Kill features a ton of Ship Tease between Ryuko and Mako, with Mako kissing Ryuko on the lips in the penultimate episode and the two going on a date in the final episode. Despite all of this making it seemingly clear they're the Official Couple, TRIGGER has refused to confirm it as such, opting to suggest it's up for interpretation, much to the annoyance of shippers.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Other Characters

Blackbeard

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: The real Blackbeard, in terms of his treatment towards Bonnet, deceived him by taking away his ship and treasure, leaving him with only the Ranger. This event didn't occur in the game. In fact, in Bonnet's last appearance in the game, he stated that Thatch had simply let him go, and they parted ways amicably.
  • Adaptational Deviation: Some accounts suggest that Lieutenant Maynard was the one who delivered the decisive blow on Blackbeard, or at least engaged in combat with him. However, while the novelization includes this detail, Maynard is not depicted fighting Blackbeard in the game. Instead, Maynard was last seen on the island after signaling the fleet to attack.
  • Beard of Evil: One of history's famous examples. Thatch grows out his beard and then puts lit fuses on them to make himself more iconic as well as to instill fear in the Carribean seas. However, he is not entirely evil and merely seeks to aid individuals in evading the corruption of the British Royalty.
Thatch: Why fly a black flag when a black beard will do?
  • Dead Hat Shot: As the camera moves away from his decapitation, Thatch's hat tumbles off, confirming his fate.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Historical accounts state that Blackbeard's head was severed posthumously, while in the game, it was the final blow that kills him.
  • Extreme Omnivore: According to a Royal Navy spy's report, Thatch prefers his rum laced with gunpowder, much like in real life.

Anne Bonny

  • Adrenaline Makeover: Upon becoming a pirate, Anne exchanged her barmaid attire for a combat-ready outfit, which included a corset, coat, trousers, and boots.
  • Ambiguous Situation: An older Anne is seen in Memories wearing a Hidden Blade, implying that she eventually did join the Assassin Brotherhood after initially rejecting Edward's invitation to join them.
  • Broken Ace: Anne is a seasoned pirate who has participated in numerous battles and never pleads for mercy even when facing the gallows. However, after the death of her closest friend and child, Anne finds herself in a deep state of depression.
Ah Tabai: She's a strong woman. But not invincible.

Contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Due to being combined with David, Robin is reimagined here as a sadistic cannibal and rapist rather than the Nice Guy that he is canon.

  • Promoted to Love Interest: Regina fulfils the role of Ellie but is aged up and made into Emma's (who stands in for Joel) love interest instead of the father-daughter relationship their game counterparts had.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Emma slaughters her way through all of the Fireflies after finding out that they were planning on killing her to make the cure.
  • Second Love: Regina becomes Emma's love interest years after her girlfriend, Lily, is killed.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Per Word of God, Emma is going to survive Part II, unlike her game counterpart Joel, who died early on.

Pokémon: The Series — Ash Ketchum

Ash's Pokémon

    In General

  • Determinator: One trait all these Pokemon seem to pick up from Ash is perseverance. Giving up easily is not something they usually accept, and they will go above and beyond to win. They are willing to push themselves to the limit and beyond, demonstrating remarkable determination.
  • True Companions: Ash's Pokemon share a strong bond with one another. They train together frequently and rarely engage in any bickering.

Pokémon: The Series — Dawn

  • The Load: Dawn has a heartfelt conversation with Maylene, expressing her concerns that she might be wasting Ash's valuable time by participating in Contests while traveling with him. She is feeling stagnant and unsure if it is worth it for Ash. Dawn suggests a battle to help Maylene escape her funk. However, it is hinted that her primary motivation was to ensure that Ash could have his gym battle and maybe even restore her confidence in the process by demonstrating to herself that she could make a difference in Ash's dreams.

Rent-A-Girlfriend

Chizuru

  • Birds of a Feather: Chizuru realizes that she and Kazuya share more similarities than they care to acknowledge despite their reluctance to admit it.
    • Despite her efforts to conceal it, she feels that she is just as foolish and stubborn as he is. She is very self-aware and does not consider herself to be anything more than another university student with a far-fetched dream. Although she finds it corny that he aspires to introduce a real girlfriend to his family, she does not think that her dream of her grandmother seeing her on the big screen is any less cheesy. She is equally apprehensive about disappointing her own family, and they both yearn to possess the same strength as their grandmothers.
    • Although she quickly calls out Kazuya's lies, she also believes that some falsehoods are necessary to bring others hope and happiness. While her lies seem to be less self-serving than his, as she does it for the sake of her grandparents, she doesn't want to be looked down upon for telling the truth. In fact, she prefers to keep up the pretense to maintain her reputation.
    • Despite being pressured by her, Kazuya finds it hard to be truthful about his feelings for her. He fears that his honesty would put her in an uncomfortable spot. Others have also tried to make her confess that he means more to her than just a client, but it's evident that she's not entirely honest with herself about her feelings. Little do they know that they're hindering their own progress and not each other's.
    • Despite their individual flaws and insecurities, both of them possess genuinely good hearts. They are selfless and always willing to lend a helping hand to others. However, Kazuya tends to be more open about expressing his helpfulness.

  • No-Respect Guy: Despite his efforts, his ex, his friends, and even his own family all seem to enjoy criticizing and belittling him, leaving him feeling dejected and worthless. However, a few people treat him with respect and dignity, namely Sumi and, eventually, Mini and Chizuru, bringing the total number of respectful individuals to three.

Ruka

  • Buxom Beauty Standard: Although not quite as generously endowed as Chizuru, she is still recognized for her comparably ample bust.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She is not as well-endowed as Chizuru, but she is still known for her ample bust and long, slender legs. When she wears a skirt, her buttocks and panties can be seen, and later she tries to impress Kazuya by wearing a bikini and a maid uniform to appear more seductive.

God of War Series – Atreus

  • Sensory Overload: Atreus's episode of Acquired Situational Narcissism has been linked to his newfound awareness of his Divine Parentage. After spending his entire life struggling with his sickness and the belief that Kratos resents him for his weak constitution and kind nature, learning about his divine heritage made him feel much stronger and finally made his father proud. However, this also gives him an emotional high that makes him overconfident and reckless, ultimately leading to a disastrous meeting with Baldur. It takes getting trapped in Hel as a result for Kratos to snap him out of his high and bring him back to reality.

[up][up][up] Under Fusion Fic, “retailing” should be “retelling”, and should probably have an “a” before it.

For a page I am making:

Franchise.The Princess Bride:

The Princess Bride is a multi-media franchise based on William Goldman's novel of the same name.

The story follows Westley and Buttercup, true loves, who are separated after Westley is apparently killed by a pirate at sea. On the eve of her wedding to Prince Humperdinck, Buttercup is kidnapped by a group of mercenaries. However, they are followed by a mysterious pirate dressed in black and Buttercup finds herself reunited with her lost love.

The book was later adapted and overshadowed by a film adaptation, which itself was adapted into a roleplaying game and mini series for the Quibi app.

Works in this franchise include:

Literature

Live-Action Films

Live-Action TV

Tabletop Games

Any corrections?

CommonKnowledge.Puyo Puyo:

  • Sonic Team are the current developers behind Puyo Puyo. While this was true early on, this is no longer the case. The Puyo Puyo games are currently handled by a different team led by Mizuki Hosoyamada currently dubbed the "Puyo Puyo Team".

AwesomeMusic.Jazz

  • Louis Prima's "Sing Sing Sing" — which is later popularized by Benny Goodman's cover — is an energetic and swinging Big Band jazz track that is all but guaranteed to get you swinging with a sing through its upbeat energy. It is widely regarded to be the definitive big band swing jazz track of the swing era of the late 1930s and '40s, and for very good reason.

Total Drama Killer Bass

DJ

Decoy Protagonist: As the last member of Team Victory, as well as the most focus, DJ is set to take on the remaining challenges after Alejandro assists him in regaining his self-assurance. Unfortunately, in the next episode, Alejandro betrays him, resulting in DJ's elimination and Team Victory is dismantled long before the season even reaches the merge.

Duncan

  • Arc Hero: Of Action, though he is more of an Anti-Hero. After Gwen's elimination, Duncan steps up as the leader of the Screaming Gaffers and leads his team to victory multiple times. His interactions with Harold and Courtney are among the most intense conflicts of the season. Fed up with Courtney's mistreatment, Duncan eliminates her in the final four, cultivating in him and Beth becoming the final two of the season.
