TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

Today's worklist:

  • Blazing Team: Stub work page; creator messaged.
  • James T Kirk: This character does not seem to have an unique or interesting speech style that warrants a Self Demo page, ~Lt Fedora.

Former Shakespearian actor William Shatner did try to speak in iambic trimeter or tetrameter whenever he could, which is the basis of Kirk's much-parodied speaking style, but the SD page as currently written doesn't appear to reflect that.

I bring you a single sentence (in bad English, no less) stub in the form of as Webcomic.Skins. (Weirdly enough, it has enough wicks for it to have a decent trope list, but no one bothered to add them to the actual page...)

Looks like Skins was blanked at one point. I've restored the old version.

Might be kinda too late to bring this issue, but...

The Snakes Are Sinister trope was launched with no hats (strangely the ykttw says "no launching please") and I'm afraid Reptiles Are Abhorrent covered it already.

What to do?

How to Create a Work's Page

Basically, if you have three non-zero-context wickable tropes and some sort of a coherent description, you're good to write it, wick it, and index it.

[up] Contents Glossary Index looks like a page on the differences between contents, glossaries, and indexes (in which case it should probably be in UsefulNotes/). No idea what the two trope links at the bottom are for, though.

Earlier, there was a TRS inquiry about Dragon Powers, which was a trope launched without YKTTW, and was a suspected duplicate of Our Dragons Are Different (page's author, who was messaged and directed to YKTTW already, noted that it's not a duplicate, and instead something different).

As for the Contents Glossary Index page, seems a bit short to be a valid page. I wouldn't mind it being cut.

~Ronnie R15

Dragon Powers Is a trope for those with draconic powers, which extends to characters that are not dragons. It also asks that tropers to not add examples who only have generic dragon abilities, such as fire breathing. Examples: The Graybeards from Skyrim, any pokemon with a dragon type move, the Boneyards of Dragon Rage and Smaugs hoard which is affected by his dragon-spell. All of which are great examples because are actual dragons, but have dragon powers. That said I do admit that the two crossover a lot.
Our Dragons Are Different means (at minimum) each work has a different powerset for dragons. So in Skyrim, a Thu'um is a generic dragon ability. Dragon Derived Powers sounds like a decent trope, but your current definition is a duplicate to Our Dragons Are Different with a meaningless prohibition.
