Halloween Special acts more like a genre index. Shows that are produced uniquely and exclusively for Halloween are very much distinct from a Halloween Episode in an ongoing series, and likewise, shows uniquely based on Christmas mythology (Santa, Rudolph, Frosty, etc.) are certainly distinct from a Christmas Episode from an ongoing series.

I'm worried that I made a mistake when phrasing the crowner's lead question to such a point of possibly invalidating the results. Can't get the right answer if you ask the wrong question...

...or is this not so big a deal to be worrying over?

Anyway, since nobody's actually done one can I do a sample of wikilinks?

Articles linking to both Christmas Special and Christmas Episode

Obviously some of these are series franchises which by definition means they cannot have a Christmas Special as currently defined. I am also seeing some pages where certain namespaces link to Christmas Special while other namespaces link to Christmas Episode.

Has any progress been made on implementing this?

Has the title/page being used for the merged trope been decided yet? Christmas Episode has significantly more wicks and inbounds, but I feel like Christmas Special is more descriptive. I apologize if I am missing something, but I wonder if it would make sense to have another crowner for voting on what name to use since that was not included in the original crowner.

Actually, I think I messed up on writing the crowner (I hear "Christmas Special" getting used as a synonym for Christmas Episode but not vice versa) to the extent of possibly needing a complete revote.

I could volunteer to do the merge. Christmas Episode is larger by a fair margin, both in terms of examples and wicks/inbounds, but is it okay as a name or do we want an entirely new trope?

Christmas Episode works for me and is consistent with our other tropes.

EDIT PS: I just realized we have no Holiday Episode

Doing a search for it led to me finding this YKTTW which was abandoned last year. Please help me revive it.

Unlocking by request, but clocking.

Don't holler to unlock a thread unless you actually plan to do something to make it go forward. Re-locking.

Crown Description:

The terms "Christmas Episode" and "Christmas Special" get used interchangeably whether we like it or not. What do we do?

We have possibly three definitions to work with:
  • The in-season / in-continuity episode of a series that occurs around Christmas, so it involves Christmas themes.*
  • A not in-continuity episode for a series, with a focus on Christmas themes.*
  • A standalone story with Christmas themes, not associated with a regular series at all.*
