Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Quick question before taking on FiveManBand.Anime, I thought only the first, second and possibly fourth seasons of Digimon had the heroes as "Chosen Children", with Tamers being, well, Tamers, and...I'm not 100% sure on Savers. Was this not the case?

I did Role Association.Film and put the wicks on Role Association. I was going to put examples onto subpages anyway. I'll move that ahead on my To Do list.

Doing Older Than They Think. Edit: Finished. I moved the 2 examples from Puppet Shows folder to Other, as it was not worth making a whole new page for it.

[up] [up] I believe he wanted to preserve the last section, the one for the characters from the related works, since it's quite small and doesn't fit very well on the new subpages. It's nothing we can't fix in 5 minutes if you'd just unlock the page.

By the way the properly memetic response is Characters/Touhou can take it easy!

Couldn't we do something so that the tropes split by medium could have top page icons leading to the trope's subpages, rather than the media? It's quite annoying, especially the lack of a proper "main" button.

For example the Eldritch Abomination/Anime page's top icons should lead to Main/Eldritch Abomination, Playing With/Eldritch Abomination, etc, and not to Main/Anime, WMG/Anime, etc.

Index on the page works fine. You get the index bar and you have a natural main hub. Somebody with lock powers will just have to go through and delete the examples and put the wicks on.

It occurs to me that the way to do this would be to make (for instance) Anime/AndIMustScream rather than AndIMustScream/Anime.

[up] That would block the page from a potential anime that is called And I Must Scream.

Question, how exactly are we supposed to go about dividing Tropers Do It Without Notability as right now it indiscriminate collection of memes?

[up]The first third is random, but after the "Fictional people do it in character" line, It's divided by media with allcaps.

Blaz Blue's character sheets have been split into three.

I've already changed the main page to reflect this, but the current Character page can pretty much be deleted entirely.

Whew, done with Demonic Spiders finally. I must be gettin' slow in my old age.

Note that this is a bit of a re-order of the current folder structure, as it puts all the single games first, followed by the genres.

Some of the pages are still quite large, but they're all less than 100,000 now, so it at least gives us some breathing room.

I've got them on my watch list, so I might go in and give some more games there own folders later on.

Dot Hack is an odd example. Some sites list it Before A, some sites phonetically list it at D, and some sights visually list H as the first letter of the name.

I go with D, personally. That's where I see it put the most.

I've noticed this thread, and since I have created two Character Sheets, I feel concerned.

The Tokimeki Memorial Character Sheet was nearly as big as the Order Of The Stick one by comparing them on Microsoft Word, so even though it's not currently targeted in the list, I decided to relieve you from some eventual future work and took the initiative to split it into sections for each flagship game of the franchise :

Now, two questions:

  • 1) Fast Eddie, could you tell me the current length of my other Character Sheet, the Mitsumete Knight one, and if it's safe enough as it is? It's nearly not as long as the Tokimeki Memorial one, but I want to be sure.

  • 2) I don't think I haven't seen this info anywhere in the thread, so asking: what do you consider a safe length for an article before needing to be split?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

[up][up] It's listed on Anime as being right before the A, as part of the [#ABC] folder. I think we'd want to stay consistent with that since it's the main anime index on the site.

So it's fine as is for now.

Neither Mitsumete Knight or Tokimeki Memorial are on this list, so you should be fine.

Also, changed Demonic Spiders from a trope to an index.
