YMMV / Eddsworld

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Was Tord Evil All Along or did he just undergo a Face–Heel Turn and joined the Enemy Army from "Moving Targets (which was the last full episode with Tord as a protagonist)?
    • Were Commander Bai and crew assholes who deposed of the gang when they outlived their usefulness, or were they getting rid of Matt, who was a threat to their ship?
    • Did Future Tom mean the laser he got to the face in "Zanta Claws II" gave him cancer, or did he mention the laser to trick Tom into thinking he wore the "eye thing" because of the laser, only to reveal he had cancer?
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Somehow, an example within this already bizarre series; also, even more somehow, it manages to be a Justified Trope:
    • In Space Face, Matt's interlude with the voice changer gun comes apropos of nothing, doesn't really lead to a punchline (although it manages a couple gags with different replacements for Edd's voice), and is forgotten as soon as it occurs - yet, it's the only thing that explains Edd's voice change after the real Edd's unfortunate passing.
  • Broken Base: Was it a good idea to make Tord a villain or should he go back to being one of the (anti) heroes?
  • Cargo Ship: Sometimes joked about throughout the show.
  • Creator Backlash: Pearl "Prikle" Zhang wants to forget they animated Tom's Tales of Crazy.
  • Designated Hero: In Zanta Claws.
Santa: (Giving them presents) You earned these, kids.
Edd: But we didn't do anything.
    Santa: Ho ho ho. (leaves)
  • Ensemble Darkhorse:
    • The Rule 63!main cast from "Mirror Mirror" have unsurprisingly become this, because who doesn't want cute girl versions of these guys!?
    • Tord. So much so the fandom was shocked when he left and basically drove him into hiding. ....however, his character did return for the Two-Part Series Fauxnale.
    • The rejected clones from "Spares" (particularly Tomtord, Tomatoredd and Scribble Tom) have been getting loads and loads of fan art, especially on Tumblr.
      • Bing and Larry from the same episode also have their fair share of popularity among viewers.
    • The unnamed punk girl from comic's "Junk Sale" story arc only appeared in one strip, yet the fans ate her up the moment she arrived.
  • "Funny Aneurysm" Moment/Harsher in Hindsight: By the crapload, because of Edd's death.
    • In WTFuture, Tom says "Without Edd, it'd be just [Matt] and me, and, well, that would suck." Doubly harsh, because Tom had numerous difficulties picking up the show after Edd's death.
    • From the same episode: it turns out the laser Eddsworld!Tom took to the face gave him cancer.
    • The entire episode can be considered one, considering it's about Edd ten years in the future going into the past to kill his past self.
    • The epilogue for This World of Edd narrates Edd going crazy and killing himself (and Dying Alone); darkly-humorous then. Now...
    • Edd Vs. Cancer, a video that dealt with Edd's cancer in a very light-hearted and optimistic way, becomes much harder to watch when you know what ultimately happened. This is made worse when Matt asked Edd what are the survival rates of his cancer, to which Edd says around "70%", which Matt gleefully shouting "You're going to kick its ass!". Considering what happened...
    • At the end of Matt Sucks, Matt says, "Oh well, at least Edd's dead."
    • In Christmas Visitor Edd's visited by Death himself.
    • This sketch on Matt's channel.
    • This update video on Tom's channel.
    • "Rock Bottom", which was released about a month before Edd died.
    • Would be hilarious if it wasn't for Edd's death, but in one of the Zombeh Attack flashes one zombie is clearly drawn by Paul (visible differences in style). Now he's the lead animator of the show.
    • One that doesn't have to do with Edd's death, surprisingly enough, but this comic can make it a lot harder to watch MovieMakers, and gives Eduardo a bit more sympathy for his hatred of Edd: his girlfriend died making their movie, and her death wasn't even noticed by them.
    • Tom storming out of the house after getting sick of Tord's monkey business in "The End" Part 1 ended up becoming very ominous now that the real Tomska was driven away from Eddsworld as a whole by a fiasco within a small part of the fandom.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: In this case (when it comes to social media), America, Korea and Japan love Eddsworld.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Idiot Plot: Coke is outlawed in the future. Edd has a time machine. He decides to go back in time to commit suicide by killing his past self, instead of, y'know, going to the store and getting the drink. No one calls him out on that.
    • Or, if he's so determined to commit Time-Travel Murder, how about killing the people responsible for banning Coke in the first place and preventing the horrible, Coke-Free future?
  • Les Yay: In The Dudette Next Door, it is revealed that Kim's true love was Katya.
  • Memetic Mutation: Just a Bit Crazy.
    Edd: Yep.
  • Moe:
    • Edd himself, Matt (in the later episodes) and Jon are very cute cartoon boys.
    • Applies to the rest of the cast as well, to a lesser extent.
  • Most Wonderful Sound:
  • Nightmare Fuel: Many of their videos, now has its own page.
  • Shallow Parody: Comic 226, referencing that other show with an Edd in it. The two characters are Ed and Edd, but the latter is introduced as Eddy, and acts in the exact same way as Ed, whereas in their original cartoon they were essentially foils to each other.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks: Fans were complaining about Space Face's Art Shift in between the two parts (which happened for obvious reasons). Paul explained this on his blog.
