Mario doing what he does best: being a dumbass.

Is there anyone of you who isn't a dumbass motherfucker?!
Bowser accurately summarizing the amount of stupidity in the SMG4-verse

SMG4 is well known for it's excessive amounts of stupidity. And with moments like these, it's not hard to see why.

    open/close all folders

    Mario
Mario being stupid is like breathing for him, of course he'd be here.
  • Who Let the Chomp Out:
    • Mario and SMG4 are hanging out in Bob-Omb Battlefield when a bored Mario decides to play with a Chain Chomp. SMG4 obviously objects to such a stupid proposition, telling Mario not to go anywhere near it lest he accidentally releases it.
You'd Expect: Mario to take SMG4's advice and get away from the beast, or at least take caution around it.
Instead: He pays no attention at all to what SMG4 has to say and goes onto the pole bounding the Chain Chomp.
As A Result: Bob-omb's see Mario on a pole and fire Gourmet Guy at Mario, squishing him while he tries to get away. Mario manages to set himself free by throwing the fat shy guy off him. Unfortunately, Mario throws him on the wooden pole, also setting the Chain Chomp free, just as SMG4 said he would.
    • Later on, the Chain Chomp is seen sleeping inside the castle, apparently haven eaten Mario's spaghetti. Mario sees the spaghetti in its mouth.
You'd Expect: Mario to realize it's not worth it to try and retrieve the spaghetti from a dangerous creature, let alone when it's in its mouth. He'll always get some more anyway.
Instead: He goes into the Chain Chomp's mouth to eat it.
As A Result: The Chain Chomp wakes up and blasts Mario's head off.

  • SMG3's Gauntlet of Gloom:
    • Mario and SMG4 make it to SMG3's lair to take down an embarrassing video compilation of SMG4 that SMG3 has made. SMG4 warns Mario that the room might be booby-trapped, and decides to devise a plan.
You'd Expect: Mario to help out SMG4 with the plan or at least listen up.
Instead: Mario decides to try running through the room.
As A Result: The painting right beside them throws a bomb at him. But it doesn't stop there.
You'd Then Expect: For Mario to work with SMG4, now that he knows the room is booby trapped.
Instead: He tries running through the room again, and again, and again.
As A Result: He keeps getting hit with bombs. ("What a moron", comments SMG4.) Oddly enough, Mario's rage at the painting and subsequent flailing around deflects one of the bombs back at the painting, disabling it long enough for him and SMG4 to get past it. Mario immediately claims I Meant to Do That.

  • Super Mario Christmas 2016: Naughty or Nice:
    • On Christmas Eve, Mario calls Santa to see if he's on the nice list. Sure enough, he isn't, so Mario decides to clean up his act before Christmas hits.
You'd Expect: Mario to go about on doing good deeds normally, or simply just not even bother since it's the day before Christmas.
Instead: He completely overdoes everything or doesn't follow through on them.
As A Result: Everyone "helped" by Mario is left in a worse position than before. Mario still doesn't manage to get on the nice list when all's said and done.
    • One moment in particular involves the only people who actually were helped by Mario, Wario and Waluigi. After Mario exits Cool, Cool Mountain (where the gang was vacationing for the holidays), he catches the troublesome duo stuffing all of the castle's possessions in a sack.
You'd Expect: Mario to call the police or stop them himself.
Instead: Mario doesn't suspect a thing.
As A Result: The Wario Bros. are able to manipulate Mario into helping them steal not just everything in the castle, but also the castle itself. Wario says this trope in exact wording as he and his brother run away with the loot.

  • The Bootleg Dimension:
    • While taking out the trash, Mario comes across Prof. E. Gadd, who's throwing away a mysterious pane. E. Gadd explains that it's a failed attempt at recreating one of the castle's magical paintings, and that it should avoid being touched at all costs.
You'd Expect: Mario to heed E. Gadd's warning.
Instead: He decides to jump in as soon as E. Gadd leaves the scene, entering The Bootleg Dimension.
As A Result: He meets Grand Dad, who is secretly vengeful about he and his kind being made fun of. Once in the real world, he carries out his retribution by turning the entire Mushroom Kingdom and its inhabitants into bootleg versions of themselves.

  • Mario the Waiter:
    • Mario has to work at Gaben's Steamy Diner after getting Luigi knocked out by Wario tossing the blame of touching Wario's food onto him. Given that it's Mario, he hasn't been too exceptional of an employee, but he's been getting by so far. He gets to Toad and Toadette, with the latter ordering a chocolate cake. Mario doesn't know how to make one, so Gaben, unable to help to due to chasing after Fishy Boopkins, instructs him to look up a video on how to make one. Mario does so, only to come across a random educational video for toddlers.
You'd Expect: Mario to go search up another video.
Instead: He decides to just cook everything in the kitchen.
As A Result: He serves up the dish, only for it to be a GIF of a dancing Squidward.
Even Worse: Toadette forces Toad to eat it. Toad likes it, but Mario tells Toad that it was made from everything in the kitchen, causing the mushroom to vomit profusely, starting off a chain reaction that eventually has Gaben's Diner in ruins.
    • Gaben obviously isn't too happy with Mario for everything he's caused, but still decides to give him one last chance. SMG4 has just come in ordering a plate of spaghetti, and all Mario has to do is walk over and serve it to him.
You'd Expect: Mario to do this simple task, especially with his boss's patience wearing thin.
Instead: Since this is spaghetti we're talking about, not only does Mario eat it, but he also knocks SMG4 out with a baseball bat and tries to dupe his boss into thinking SMG4 ate it and wants another one.
As A Result: Gaben runs after Mario, intent on killing him. This cumulates in Gaben's Diner being blown to smithereens. From there, Gaben sentences both Mario and Luigi, who recently regained consciousness, to eternity on an island modeled off his face.

  • Mario and the T-Pose Virus:
    • The T-Pose apocalypse has just begun, with an infected Shroomy and SMG4 headed towards the castle. Luigi barricades the front doors and tells Mario to help him. Mario looks behind himself and sees a bat and pile of guns.
You'd Expect: Mario to use one of those things to fend off the T-pose zombies.
Instead: He sees Toad right beside them and decides to throw him at the zombies, claiming that everything would be solved.
As A Result: Toad gets turned into a T-Pose zombie, and he and the rest of the zombies break through the door, escalating the problem.

  • Stupid Mario Paint:
    • Mario has clogged the toilet and runs to Toadsworth for help. Unfortunately, Toadsworth is too distracted by a self-portrait of him created by Jeeves called, "The Mona Toadsworth". Toadsworth leaves to tell more of his friends about it, leaving Mario all alone.
You'd Expect: Mario to consult someone else about the clogged toilet. Better yet, isn't Mario a plumber?
Instead: He uses "The Mona Toadsworth" to fix the toilet, not seeing it as anything valuable.
As A Result: Toadsworth, apparently having witnessed this, is unsurprisingly angered by Mario's inconsideration and forces Mario to find a replacement by the end of the day, threatening to "kill" Mario's spaghetti "Sarah" if he fails to do so.

  • The Mario Cafe:
    • Shroomy has ordered an Eggs Benedict, but there are no eggs to make it. Bowser sends Mario out to find some eggs, and Mario sees a delivery truck with loads of egg boxes on it along with Yoshi's unhatched daughter in a pram.
You'd Expect: Mario to walk over to the truck and just grab a few egg boxes.
Instead: He sneaks over to Yoshi's pram and takes the egg in it.
As A Result: At the end of the video, the police show up to investigate the reports of Yoshi's child being kidnapped. Mario is forced to work at the cafe indefinitely until things blow over.

  • The Tari Abnormality:
    • After Mario loses to Tari again, he believes Tari's cyborg arm is the reason why she keeps winning their game. So he starts to poke it and Tari (understandably) asks him to stop.
You'd Expect: Mario to respect Tari's privacy and stop.
      Instead: He keeps poking it.
As A Result: Mario activates a screen on Tari's arm, which activates a shotgun blast that blows up Toad.
But Wait, There's More: Then the Meta Runner logo pops up on the screen.
You'd Expect: Seeing what happened to Toad, plus Tari firmly asking him to stop, Mario would listen to Tari and stop.
Instead: He does not listen and touches the screen one more time.
Guess What?: Mario and Tari get sucked into their game and have to fight their way out. Way to go, Mario.

  • Little Penguin Lost:
    • Mario and Meggy are stuck on a pond with broken ice and the former has telephone. But its battery is almost depleted.
You'd Expect: He would call a rescue crew.
Instead: He called a pizza, believing that not starving is more important than actually being saved.
As A Result: The phone runs out of batteries and they remain stuck on the pond until the end of video. Meggy is in such a state of shock and despair by this that she just sits on the iceberg in a Troubled Fetal Position.

  • The E G G:

  • [Textures Not Found]:
    • One night at a Halloween party, Boopkins appears, but Mario is quick to realize that he is clearly Not Himself.
You'd Expect: Mario to warn the others at the party about this.
Instead: He ignores it and continues celebrating Halloween.
But Wait, There's More!: The real Boopkins (but without his textures) appears to warn Mario.
You'd Then Expect: He would listen to Boopkins.
Instead: He thinks that this Boopkins is a monster and attacks him, even with Meggy telling him to stop.
As A Result: By the time Boopkins finally brings the others up to speed, the Non-Texture Clones almost defeat and replace everybody.

  • Mario Goes to Subway and Purchases 1 Tuna Sub With Extra Mayo:
  • Mario Plays: Unfair Mario:
    • While playing, Mario finds a sign near a hole saying "Don't Fall In."
You'd Expect: That Mario would not fall in the hole.
      Instead: He falls in.
As A Result: He gets yet another game over.
To Be Fair: Let's Players in real life have tried this to see what happens due to how tricky this game can be.
  • What If Mario Had $10,000,000?
    • While at a casino, Mario gambles most of his money, only to lose it. He had to use a disguise and a trick to steal it back which was Crazy Enough to Work.
You'd Expect: Mario to just simply not get greedy for more money and take whatever amount of money he has left and leave.
Instead: He gambles away ALL his money.
As A Result: He loses again and becomes broke.
  • Mario Reacts To CURSED Nintendo Commercials
    • When watching the "Got Milk?" ad involving Super Mario 64, Mario witnesses the commercial's version of Mario drinking milk to become much bigger, and attempts to replicate it.
You'd Expect: For Mario to simply drink from a carton of milk.
Instead: He drinks from a bottle of Clorox Bleach.
As A Result: While he doesn't die, he does get crumpled up from the bad taste.
Even Worse: He blames the commercial for it.
  • If Mario Was In... Sonic Movie 2
    • While chasing Dr. Eggman for the Chaos Emerald, Mario manages to snag it while Eggman's distracted.
You'd Expect: Mario to just get the hell out of there while not doing anything to draw attention to himself, thus at the very least getting a head start on the chase down the streets.
Instead: He laughs loudly as he runs away.
As A Result: Eggman sees him almost immediately, gives chase, and starts shooting at him, eventually stranding him and Sonic and friends in the middle of the ocean.
  • Mario Attempts TikTok Challenges
    • Mario attempts the trust fall challenge, with one of the true/false facts being "Mario is the funniest person alive!".
You'd Expect: For either Mario or his friends to perform the challenge somewhere safe.
Instead: They perform it at the top of an tower's edge.
As A Result: As it turns out, Mario is not the funniest person alive, and he falls to his explosive death when his friend's don't catch him (somehow).

  • The Lads Play Shrek Online
    • Mario wants a donkey to be his new pet, and approaches Tari to ask her to spawn it from the game. Unfortunately for Mario, Tari is in the middle of bathing her pet duckies.
You'd Expect: Mario to patiently wait until Tari's finished with what she's doing, then let her safely spawn the donkey. After all, he's had experience with the consequences of messing with Tari's cybernetics.
Instead: Mario decides to mess with Tari's arm on his own.
As a Result: He's sucked into Shrek Online for the entire episode, forcing SMG4 to help him out to restore order in the game. Mario doesn't get his donkey, either.

    SMG4
Despite being somewhat a god in his universe since he created the bloopers and episodes he and his friends partake in, SMG4 is not immune to the Idiot Ball.
  • Da Glitch:
    • SMG4 has just brought in a computer thrown out by the Old Man Hobo to replace his regular one that has been lagging recently. When he turns it on, he's immediately alerted that it has a virus, and is given the option to release it or destroy it.note
You'd Expect: SMG4 to destroy the virus.
Instead: He releases it, claiming not to know what a virus is, which is pretty stupid in itself since he should know given how much time he spends on the computer.
As A Result: The virus distorts the entire Mushroom Kingdom.

  • The Explosive Easter Hunt:
    • Mario has accidentally defused a bomb latched onto a giant chocolate egg. The gang cheers, with SMG4 saying they should carry on the celebration by eating chocolate.
You'd Expect: SMG4 to get chocolate elsewhere.
Instead: He tries eating from the giant egg that the bomb is attached to.
As A Result: He accidentally knocks the bomb to the ground, which reactivates it. It immediately explodes, sending himself, Mario, Luigi, and Toad to the hospital.

  • Mario Battle Royale:
    • As the last two combatants, Mario and SMG4 both have a gun pointed at each other. Suddenly, Mario attempts to finish SMG4 off, only for it to be revealed that he's out of ammo.
You'd Expect: SMG4 would take advantage of the situation and finish Mario off.
Instead: He laughs his ass off at Mario's supposed misfortune.
As A Result: Mario manages to successfully pull a Batman Gambit on SMG4 by pulling out a second gun and shooting him while his guard is down.

  • The Mario Hustle:
    • One day, Wario and Waluigi decide to scam SMG4 into buying some rocks, stating they'll make his videos funnier.
You'd Expect: SMG4 to call them out on the scam and refuse to buy them.
Or: If he has to fall for it, he'd only buy a few so when he sees they don't work he's not left bankrupt.
Instead: He buys 1 million rocks.
As A Result: He's left bankrupt and with rocks he doesn't need. His idiocy is lampshaded by both Mario(of all people) and Saiko.

  • Mario's Late:
    • Mario, Bowser, Luigi and Toad are having trouble getting ready for the awards ceremony. SMG4 needs to motivate them to hurry up.
You'd Expect: SMG4 to come up with something simple and easy that wouldn’t make everyone panic.
Instead: He threatens to blow up the Wifi router with a bomb. Not a fake one, but a real bomb. Bowser calls him out on this when the remote that deactivates the bomb spontaneously combusts, thus SMG4 is unable to defuse the dynamite.
Fortunately: The guys manage to get the bomb off the router and throw it out of the castle. Better still, they make it to the ceremony, right on time.

  • The Day SMG4 Posted Cringe:
    • SMG4 has just completed a new video and prepares to share it with the world. The computer inspects the video and warningly asks if he really wants to post it online.
You'd Expect: SMG4 to reconsider making the new video public, or at least contemplate on it.
Or: Ask one of his friends to test-watch the video before it goes online.
Instead: He disregards the computer's skepticism and impatiently demands it to go through with the uploading process.
As A Result: The meme is released and is widely reviled, causing SMG4 to lose his subscribers at a very rapid rate. This in turn would also begin a case of Disaster Dominoes throughout the episode.

  • Mario Vs. IT
    • After hearing from Mario that Luigi has been kidnapped by "IT" note , SMG4 goes to find some friends to recruit in this rescue mission.
You'd Expect: SMG4 to find some brave people capable in a fight. You have friends like Meggy, a Trigger-Happy Action Girl who lives for competition, Saiko, who is almost always armed with a massive hammer, Shroomy, who has used explosives and heavy machinery at a few points in the series, and Axol, who can make anime characters come to life, including someone who could fight. Even Bob, a guy with swords for hands, can brawl in certain situations. With friends and fighting capabilities like these, you can't go wrong.
Instead: He chooses Toad and Fishy Boopkins. Having Mario on board at least makes some sense, given their history, but Toad Hates Everyone Equally, thus not making him a good pick to help a friend in need, while Boopkins isn't an effective fighter and, as he puts it, "doesn't do well with scary things". The explanation SMG4 gives for this is that their other friends are busy trick-or-treating and he doesn't want to disturb them—not even for a massive emergency, apparently.
    • Later in the episode, Mario gets attacked and pinned down by a clown version of himself. Boopkins begs SMG4 to save him by shooting the Clown Mario.
You'd expect: SMG4 to shoot the very obvious Clown Mario right then and there.
Instead: He somehow can't tell which version of Mario is the real one, saying "I don't know which one's the clown!!", thus failing to actually do anything. It takes Boopkins electrocuting Toad into singing a painful rendition to save Mario from being sliced.

  • The Totally Legit Educational Show With SMG4
    • During one segment, SMG4 shows the audience the differences between Short and Tall, showing his friends as examples.
You'd Expect: SMG4 to use characters who likely wouldn't mind being used as examples, like JubJub for short and Joe Boopkins for tall.
Instead: He chooses Meggy and Saiko, both of which likely wouldn't appreciate the insult-laddened song about their heights.
Worse: The two are clearly furious with the Youtuber for essentially making fun of their heights, and while SMG4 notices and hastily tries to end the song, he only succeeds in worsening the girls' anger towards him, even with Saiko pulling a knife on him.
As A Result: When the song is finally over, SMG4 is met with a flamethrower from each offended party, both of whom promptly burn him alive.

  • SMG4 Expands His Brain
    • SMG4 Witnesses Miyamoto throwing out game ideas the latter straight-up admits are awful and he regrets making.
You'd Expect: SMG4 to have an Everyone Has Standards moment, and not even bother looking at the scrapped games for potential meme ideas.
Instead: He kicks over the dumpster and starts playing the collection of games.
As A Result: SMG4 cringes so hard from all of the terrible games he straight-up dies.
Thankfully: It turns out to be an advertisement for another game.

  • 10 Year Anniversary Special
    • It's the tenth anniversary of SMG4, and he just invited everyone to attend to his celebration party, even the dead memes in the Internet Graveyard. He calls SMG3 and asks him and the dead memes over, but his old enemy refuses, since dead memes become corrupted and wreak havoc if they stay too long in the living realm. And he should know, since he learned about the meme life cycle and took it upon himself to look after the memes as if they were his own children.
You'd Expect: SMG4 to nix the idea. There's plenty of people at the party as is.
Or: If SMG4 wants the memes at his party so badly to ask SMG3 for a time limit on how long they have until they get corrupted.
Instead: He plays off of SMG3's ego and tells him he'll be famous.
As a Result: His desire for fame too big of a temptation, SMG3 arrives, brings the dead memes over, and everyone enjoys the party—until Zero enters the picture. The memes become corrupted, and everything goes to hell.

    Luigi
  • Toadsworth's How to - Princess:
    • Toadsworth ties Princess Peach onto a railroad track with an incoming train to get Mario to save her, but Mario doesn't care. Luigi decides to step in and be the hero, pushing Peach out of harms way.
You'd Expect: Luigi to get off the track himself.
Instead: He starts doing the Can Can dance, still on the track.
As A Result: Luigi gets run over by the train.

  • Stupid Luigi’s Mansion:
    • While raiding the mansion’s fridge, Luigi ends up freeing the ghost of Colonel Sanders from a piece of roasted chicken. Out of gratitude, the ghost states that he will grant Luigi anything he wants, but with a catch: said wish will be cursed.
    • You'd Expect: For Luigi to WISH Mario (AKA the whole freakin’ reason Luigi is still in the mansion) to be teleported to his location safe and sound, and then get the hell out of the place, the curse he damned.
    • Instead: Luigi COMPLETELY forgets about Mario and wishes for a drink to go along with his chicken, and said drink turns out to be a small cup. Even the Colonel is dumbfounded by his decision.

  • The Mario Hustle:

  • Mario and the T-Pose Virus:
    • Luigi and Mario are running from the T-Pose zombies and make it to the roof door, which has unfortunately been barricaded by a selfish Bob, who is completely unwilling to help out the Mario Bros. Mario then uses his "Fat Powers" to break the door down, and he and Luigi decide to rejoice finally getting through.
You'd Expect: Luigi to take a few steps away from where the door once was since the T-Pose zombies are on his tail, then celebrate with his brother.
Instead: He settles right in front of the opening.
As A Result: The celebration is cut short by the T-Pose zombies easily pursuing Luigi. Mario blames Bob for Luigi's capture though, not that he's wrong to do so.

  • Doomsday but Mario is Okay:
    • Luigi, who apparently doesn't know about SMG4's plan to nuke Peach's castle in order to destroy SMG0's USB while keeping everyone safe in a bunker, is heading towards the castle with some board games.
You'd Expect: Even if he didn't know what SMG4 was planning, Luigi would just take one look at his surroundings and realize that heading towards a building that is surrounded by military vehicles is not a very smart idea, especially if there's a nuke sitting in front of it.
Instead: He just waltzes up to the castle without even bothering to check his surroundings.
As A Result: Luigi is caught in the nuclear explosion and reduced to a skeleton. If this was any other series, then he probably would have been Killed Off for Real.

    Fishy Boopkins
  • Mario and the T-Pose Virus:

  • The Mario Concert:
    • Bob is setting out to perform at a concert and tells Boopkins not to come. Boopkins does anyway, so Bob allows him to tag along as long as he doesn't interfere with the concert.
You'd Expect: Boopkins to do what Bob says and stay out.
Instead: Boopkins is convinced that Bob needs him, despite Bob actually doing good, and sets out on stage anyway.
As A Result: From there, a small chain of events eventually ruin Bob's concert.
Worse: Boopkins tries to give Bob an apology, which gets rejected HARD to say the least, sending Boopkins into a depression.

  • Welcome to Mario Mart:
    • Mario buys a frozen spaghetti and asks Boopkins, who is working at 7-11 to pay off his debts, to heat it up in the microwave, but the plumber's impatience leads him to destroy it, of which Boopkins takes note.
You'd Expect: Boopkins would kick Mario out of the store for damaging its property and temporarily close to go look for a new microwave.
Alternatively: If leaving the store isn't an option, he could just put an "out of order" sign on the microwave and continue business. Not every customer would have to use it after all.
Instead: He merely asks him to watch the store while he finds a new one, failing to consider that Mario is not suited for the job given what he did.
As A Result: Mario does what he does best, and his irresponsibility leads to him, Swag, Bob, and Meggy fighting the Old Man Hobo fused with a slushie machine. The store is left trashed by the time Boopkins gets back with the new microwave.

    Peach
  • If Mario Was In... Fall Guys:
    • In this episode, Peach leaves her crown in a chest.
You'd expect: Peach, whenever she isn't wearing it, to put the crown somewhere out of reach from Mario, or anyone who's willing to steal it.
Instead: It's in the above-mentioned chest, out in the open, complete with a sign outright saying that her crown is in there.
As A Result: Donkey Kong delivers Mario a pizza, but Mario doesn't have any money on him., so he has the bright idea to use Peach's crown to pay for the pizza. Peach notices what Mario did and tries going after Donkey Kong to get her crown back, but she couldn't catch up with him.

    Meggy
Even someone as badass as Meggy is not immune to these moments.
  • The Xmas Discovery:
    • Meggy is just now knowing what Christmas is (due to Inkopolis not celebrating Christmas), so Mario and Co. are showing her what they believe Christmas is about. This leads to Meggy seeing a Mall Santa Wario—who asks her for 10,000 coins for her Christmas wish (to win Splatfest)
You'd Expect: Meggy to realize that this is a scam. Even if Wario's... costume is so convincing, 10,000 coins is a lot of money in the Super Mario universe.
Instead: Meggy just gives it to Wario, no strings attached. Even Wario is secretly amazed by this.
Thankfully: Wario's victory doesn't last long. His beard accidentally falls off, ruining his disguise. Meggy finally realizes she's been scammed, showing genuine anger for the first time in the series.
  • Stupid Mario Sports Mix:
    • While SMG4 and crew are trying out for Peach's sports team, they come across swimming.
You'd Expect: Meggy to realize that the water is dangerous. After all, water and Inklings (as in, paint-like creatures) don't go together.
Instead: She jumps in while telling the water to "bring it on!"
As A Result: She disintegrates into the water, and would have died had it not been for the Respawn Point.
Strangely: When Bowser offers her a lifesaver later, she was able to float just fine, and the lower half of her body survives.
  • Meggy's Part-Time Job:
    • Meggy puts out a listing for a babysitting service, and immediately gets hired by Fishy Boopkins to babysit JubJub. He gets to be a handful, so Meggy decides to call in some outside help. She already ruled out Mario because he'll just kick the baby, Bob because he'll give JubJub drugs, and Melony because she'll sleep on the job. In addition, Karen, who's shown a motherly side to JubJub, hasn't been introduced into the series yet.
You'd Expect: Meggy to call someone gentle like Tari or Luigi.
Instead: She calls Shroomy, who, while a Nice Guy through and through, has a Superpowered Evil Side that can cause mass pandemonium if not careful enough.
Then: Shroomy shows up and manages to calm JubJub down. He decides that the kid is hungry, so Meggy decides to cook him something.
You'd expect: That she would give cooking duties to Shroomy while she takes care of JubJub.
Instead: She tries to do so herself, despite being a Lethal Chef.
As A Result: SOMEHOW, she manages to spawn a demonic eye from the pot (by mixing oatmeal and sugar, no less). When Shroomy sees it, he turns into Anti-Shroomy, slays it, and then poses unwelcome eyes on JubJub. Hilarity Ensues as a chase breaks out between Meggy and Anti-Shroomy over JubJub.
  • Studying for Exams... But You're Friends With Mario:
    • Meggy and Melony only have a day before their college entrance exams to study.
You'd Expect: Meggy to have taken the easily distracted Melony someplace quieter to study, like the library or Bowser's Cafe.
Instead: She borrows Peach's Secret Slide room in the Castle.
As A Result: She and Melony are subject to Mario's "efforts" to help them.
    • In the same episode, when Meggy and Melony have not managed to study enough before midnight, the two are at a loss.
You'd Expect: The two to just go over a few more exercises before calling it a night, and hoping for the best.
Instead: Meggy resorts to binging a literal mountain of Monster energy drinks with Melony to cram, and the two girls spend the entire night in a sugar-rush studying.
As A Result: The two pass out when Mario checks in on them in the morning.
  • "THE NEW CASTLE!!": SMG4 gives his friends free reign to decorate the downstairs rooms however they see fit, so Mario and Meggy tackle the kitchen. Mario wants to make it his spaghetti room, but Meggy reminds him that they need kitchen appliances to fix up the place with. She decides to take charge herself, but because she's a Lethal Chef, she cannot decide which kitchen device does what and where to put them. Despite smugly noting Meggy has no idea what she's doing, Mario offers her some help.
    • You'd Expect: Meggy to swallow her pride and accept the big oaf's help, or ask someone responsible to do so.
    • Instead: She insists to Mario that she can do it, despite setting the kitchen ablaze just by throwing a blender in the empty kitchen sink.
    • As A Result: Her panic leads to her tossing the blender into a pile of Minecraft TNT, which all detonate and leave the kitchen a fiery mess. Meggy can only shrink down to her "Leggy" form and freak out further as Mario snarkily notes that he's not the hopeless one this time.

    Tari
  • Mario Does the Chores:
    • Tari is washing dishes in the sink, when she is seen by Mario. He challenges her to see who can wash the dishes faster, and she accepts. While competing against Mario, she scrubs dishes so fast that her hands are set on fire.
You'd Expect: Tari to just stick her hands in the sink.
Instead: She freaks and runs outside to jump in the lake.

    Shroomy
  • Mario and the T-Pose Virus:
    • Shroomy is just taking a walk in the woods, when he spots an ominous, sullen-looking Waluigi. Waluigi spawns a strange-looking mushroom with a T on the cap in front of Shroomy, and tells him to eat it.
You'd Expect: Shroomy to disobey Waluigi. In his own words, "A strange man in the forest telling me to eat a mushroom..."
Instead: Shroomy's sentence continued, "yeah, I don't see anything wrong with that!"
As A Result: Shroomy becomes Patient Zero for the T-Pose Outbreak.

    SMG3
  • SMG3's Browser History:
    • SMG3 decides to go browse in SMG4's computer for some reason and begins to see some really shady stuff.
You'd Expect: To go into incognito mode while doing this.
Or: To browse in the browser's guest mode, assuming it has one.
Instead: He doesn't do either of these, leaving behind an Embarrassing Browser History in the process. Afterwards, both SMG4 and Mario barge in, with SMG4 trying to bring up his search history to show Mario a meme he found, causing SMG3 to attempt to hide his browser history.
You'd Then Expect: For SMG3 to also destroy the laptop containing his browser history.
Instead: This option is never considered by him at all.
As a Result: Once SMG4 and Mario get back SMG4's laptop, they immediately check his history, and well... It's best not to describe the contents.
Thankfully: SMG3 gets a memory stick that allows him to erase the memories of his friends seeing his browser history.
But: He doesn't do it to Luigi for some reason. Though considering his reaction, it might not be worth it for him to erase his memories.

    Collective Moments
  • Mighty Morphing Mario Rangers:
    • Mario, Luigi, SMG4, Peach and Toad are selected by The Great Shigeru Lord to stop Dr. Pootis from wreaking havoc on the city. Luigi suggests that the gang organizes a surprise attack.
You'd Expect: The rest of the group to listen to what Luigi has to say and formulate a plan to take on Dr. Pootis.
Instead: The rest of the gang has already left to rush into attacking him on their own.
As A Result: Through a musical number, Dr. Pootis beats all of them individually, including Luigi who surrendered.
  • The Melancholy of Fishy Boopkins:
    • Fishy Boopkins is in a depressed slump, to the point where he doesn't want to watch anime. As SMG4 reveals this, Luigi pipes up saying that he thinks he knows what's wrong - and he does, due to witnessing the event that caused said depression.
You'd Expect: Everyone to let Luigi explain himself.
Instead: After Meggy interrupts him with the idea of trying to make him feel better, the group gets distracted by coming up with ways to make Boopkins happy. Even Luigi gets in on the act after having his point ignored.
As A Result: None of the group's ideas work, as Boopkins doesn't come out of his depression until Meggy takes him to a "sexy maid" cafe (and is traumatized by this). Even then, this is only a temporary fix to the problem, and he's right back into depression in the next episode.
  • Smart Mario:
    • Mario's latest act of stupidity (trying to warm the water he was bathing in with a heater) sets the castle on fire. His friends, fed up with his lethal stupidity, take him to E Gadd's to make him smarter.
You'd expect: For them to take into account Mario's other issues (selfishness, occasional Lack of Empathy, pettiness, obsession with spaghetti...). If they really want to fix Mario up, they might as well get E Gadd to remove them or at least minimise them.
Instead: They only focus on his (un)intelligence, and overlook his other vices.
As A Result: While things turn out fine for the most part, it quickly goes south when Mario tries to take Luigi's bowl of spaghetti. From there, Mario pulls a Face–Heel Turn and builds a machine to steal the world's spaghetti. In short, the gang's attempt to fix one flaw of Mario ended up enhancing the rest of them big time.
Luckily: The gang convert Bob (who is revealed to be as dumb as Mario) into a genius and have him defeat the latter, giving them the chance to turn Mario back to normal and fully reaffirming their acceptance of him as their idiot friend.
  • Absolute Betrayal:
    • The SMG4 gang are chasing after the Box Club who abducted Melony to be their "messiah." The gang then proceeds to attack a buff Slowbro who was about to catch Boopkins, who reclaimed Melony.
You'd Expect: They would resume chasing after the Box Club to help Boopkins and retreat.
Instead: They stopped to celebrate beating the minions.
As A Result: The Box Club Leader has enough time to snatch Melony from Boopkins and is able to seamlessly continue his plan.
  • Mario Downloads Internet Viruses:
    • In this episode, Mario messes around with his computer by installing various internet viruses.
You'd Expect: For the rest of the characters (sans Mario) to be at least acknowledgable about how potentially some of the files may have viruses on them, or hell, have a working antivirus.
Instead: Throughout the episode, it becomes very clear that most of the characters didn't bother to check whether the files did have viruses or not, or even install an antivirus. The most notable example is SMG4, who blatantly installs Mario's supervirus thinking it was some simple prank. While his rage at Mario is justified given that it resulted in his PC being kaput, he clearly should have known to install an antivirus beforehand.
  • We Don't Talk About Luigi:
    • Right before the events of the episode, Meggy and her friends hosted a very messy game of Splatoon without Mario's involvement, resulting in red ink being stained everywhere, including Luigi's clothes.
You'd Expect: For them to at least clean up the place, and Luigi to switch clothes.
Instead: Melony falls asleep in the floor, and the rest decide to set up Luigi's flower shop. When Mario finds Luigi with his clothes stained with red ink, he becomes suspicious, which is only worsened by him finding the asleep Melony with red ink as well, which when combined with Luigi accidentally scaring off Shroomy with a water gun that looks a lot like an actual gun, leads Mario to believe that he kidnapped Shroomy and killed Melony, resulting in him asking SMG4 for help.
You'd Then Expect: For SMG4 to explain what happened previously.
Instead: He tells Mario that he's busy, which results in Mario deciding to kidnap and interrogate Luigi regarding the situation.
To Be Fair: This is Mario we're talking about, and as SMG4 said at the end, he couldn't reveal it out of fear that he'll mess everything up. Still, it would have saved poor Luigi a huge amount of distress.

    The Anime Arc
To be honest, a great amount of the Anime Arc could have very easily been avoided had the cast not kept passing the Idiot Ball, but some moments stand out more than others.

  • Mario and the Anime Challenge:
  • Mario's Illegal Operation:
    • Mario, Luigi, and Boopkins are contemplating the ban on anime as a result of the events of the last episode when Lemmy, previously shown to be as much of an otaku as Boopkins, approaches them, offering anime. When the three of them follow him, they find Bob impatiently waiting for Lemmy.
You'd Expect: Bob and Lemmy to NOT talk about what they're doing, give Boopkins something to hold him over until the heat dies down, and send him on his merry way before he causes them any trouble.
Or: Bob and Lemmy have their hiding spot inside and keep their voices down.
Instead: They reveal themselves as part of the anime cartel, nobody keeps their voices down, and Lemmy and Bob do business in an alleyway.
As a Result: The Anime Secret Service almost immediately finds them and attempts to arrest them.
Fortunately: Bob immediately bails with the body pillow that kickstarted this mess, getting the A.S.S.' attention on him, leaving everyone else alone.
    • With Bob on the run from the A.S.S., Lemmy needs a new mule to do the job he was going to have Bob do. Luigi is reluctant, but Lemmy promises unlimited anime as a reward.
You'd Expect: Mario and Boopkins, having just seen the amount of firepower and professionalism the A.S.S. has first-hand, to immediately follow Luigi's example and decide it's not worth doing.
Or: Mario and Boopkins just simply appeal to Peach about lifting the ban, something that, episodes later, actually works.
Instead: Mario and Boopkins, for their own reasons, agree to the job.
As a Result: The job inevitably goes south once they get ambushed by the A.S.S., and Mario and Boopkins, plus Bob and SMG4, are at the mercy of Francis for the remainder of the first half of the arc, leading to the events of Mario's Lemonade Stand, The Japan Trip, and Mario Saves Anime.

  • Mario's Lemonade Stand:
    • Mario recruits Tari in helping with the lemonade stand he made to pay back Francis for the destruction of his merchandise. Unfortunately, Mario set up his small lemonade stand right across the street from Jeeves' huge milk emporium. Jeeves, albeit still slightly upset at Mario for the events of "Mario Goes to the Fridge to Get a Glass of Milk", gives Mario a chance to simply move the stand and let bygones be bygones.
You'd Expect: Mario, remembering the fact that Jeeves had him, Luigi, and Toad nearly dead to rights in that episode, would adhere to the simple request and set up shop elsewhere.
Instead: Mario refuses to do exactly that.
As a Result: Jeeves has the lemonade stand destroyed.
To Make it Worse: Mario, instead of simply rebuilding elsewhere, calls Francis to inform him of what happened.
As a Result of That: Francis and the Anime Cartel escalate the battle between milk and lemonade into a full-scale gang war that Meggy has to save Mario and Tari from.

  • The Mario Showdown:

  • Mario Saves Anime:
    • The Anime Cartel is forming a temporary alliance with our heroes to unban anime. On the way, they couldn't help but discover Axol and his magic pen, Inkweaver. Naturally, being fans of anime, they fawn over him like there's no tomorrow, and Fishy Boopkins can't help but chime in.
You'd Expect: Boopkins not to tell them the source. Everybody may be on the same page when it comes to unbanning anime, but this is still a crime cartel at the end of the day. Giving them ideas about how something that powerful works is not a good idea. At the very least, Boopkins could just say that Axol's pen is magic, and leave it at that.
Instead: Boopkins explicitly explains to Francis that Inkling ink is what powers Inkweaver. With Meggy in the same room.
As a Result: Francis gets the idea to kidnap almost all of Inkopolis, storing the citizens' ink to power up a giant machine that would grant him all the waifus he wants. Boopkins' impulsive description of Inkweaver really caused Desti's death, if you think about it.
    • Mario, Axol, and Fishy Boopkins need to sneak past the A.S.S. guards in the castle's courtyard to get to Peach, with Tari guiding them from her and Meggy's perch.
You'd Expect: Mario to stick to the mission and Tari's instructions.
Instead: Mario stops to pee in the fountain.
Fortunately: Meggy has her Charger and takes out the guard that spots Mario.

  • The Splatfest Incident:
    • Meggy hasn't shown up, yet, and it is time for the first match for the team. They need a fourth man to take Meggy's place while the rest of the cast looks for her.
You'd Expect: The cast to look for a suitable temporary replacement for her; for example, they could just give Saiko a roller or a paintbrush, quickly explain that the goal is to cover the most turf, but yes she can smack people with it, and let her go to town.
Instead: They throw an inkling wig on Bob, don't explain the rules, and just give him, a guy with swords for hands, an ink gun.
As a Result: The group, in spite of putting up a semi-decent fight, at halftime ends up on the bad side of a 70-30% score against the Octoposse. Bob does not even attempt to help besides moral support.
    • The cast, joined by Desti, heads over to Meggy's house, and finds evidence that she's been kidnapped by an Otaku, and what little evidence the group has is pointing to Axol as the kidnapper.
You'd Expect: The cast takes a moment to calm down, and try to get in contact with Axol to allow him to defend himself.
Instead: Team Bootcamp (Mario, Tari, Luigi, and now Desti) almost immediately assume Axol is guilty and are prepared to chase him down, while Team Japan Trip (Saiko, SMG4, Bob, and Boopkins) angrily refute that.
As a Result: The cast wastes time fighting each other until Boopkins points this out, and the cast splits up again to perform two investigations. Meanwhile, the real Big Bad's plans continue moving along uninterrupted.

  • The Inkling Disappearances:
    • The cast needs to get to Anime Island to rescue not only Meggy but the other inklings that have been kidnapped by the Ink Weaver created anime beings. To this end, they team-up with Chris, SwagMaster, and the ex-A.S.S. soldiers to head there and mount a rescue.
You'd Expect: They would take a mode of transportation that would be better suited for a stealth assault like this or, if necessary, a quick retreat, like a helicopter or plane.
Instead: They take a previously locked down ship and play pirates, Mario wastes time packing food, and the cast apart from Saiko and Desti do not take the mission seriously until what happens next.
As a Result: They're ambushed by a 50-70% powered Godzilla not once, but twice, the second time being an episode later. The first time, he kidnaps Desti. The second time, he subjects them to a Curbstomp Battle that it takes the return of Joe Boopkins to save them from.

  • Mario and the Experiment:
  • World War Mario:

  • The Final Hours:
    • After Francis runs out of ink and the Sephiroth army has been destroyed, Saiko knocked Francis into the waiting clutches of the heroes, all ready to beat the living hell out of him.
You'd Expect: Somebody to make it a top priority to either keep Francis on the ground or at least disarm him of Inkweaver.
Instead: The cast keeps Francis airborne while beating him senseless, and nobody thinks to take Inkweaver away from him.
As a Result: Francis, after smashing into the ink tank, fully charges Inkweaver and summons Super Saiyan God Blue Goku, who wastes no time returning the favor.

    The YouTube Arc
  • Mario's Spicy Day
    • SMG4 discovers that SMG3 is attempting to rebuild his life through posting his own content onto YouTube and sees Mario in one of his videos, titled 'Spicy Ones'. SMG3 even has his own studio for him to make said videos from as well, under a group named the Snitch Productions.
You'd Expect: For him to simply ask SMG3 why he's uploading his own videos to YouTube and how Mario ended up in one of his videos.
Instead: SMG4 assumes that SMG3 is trying a new evil scheme and tears down the Snitch Productions Studio in an attempt to prove that SMG3 is trying a new evil scheme, only for him to learn the hard way that he's actually trying to reform.
You'd Also Expect: For SMG3 to think it was all a misunderstanding and tell SMG4 that he just wants a chance to prove he can do something without being evil.
Instead: SMG3 takes SMG4 tearing down his studio the wrong way, and as a result, decides to return to villainy, leading to him stealing Susan Wojcicki's remote just to have his Snitch Productions crew replace SMG4's crew in their debut videos, thus killing them off, SMG4 included.
  • Deleted.
    • SMG3's plan to erase SMG4 and his crew involves sending his Anti-Cast to their very first videos to prevent them from ever meeting Mario. Team SMG4 arrives to intervene—As soon as the Anti-Cast has already went into the videos to carry out their mission, leaving SMG3 himself at their mercy.
You'd Expect: Team SMG4 to hurry into their videos and stop their counterparts. Every precious second could be spent trying to stay alive.
Or: Get SMG3 to spill how to open the container for the YouTube remote. He's heavily outnumbered, Mario just threw Fishy Boopkins at him to stop him, and the next episode would later prove he isn't good in a physical fight, so tackling him shouldn't be too hard.
Instead: SMG4 and SMG3 engage in a Showdown at High Noon, which abruptly ends when SMG3 jumps into "account loss".
As A Result: No one was able to stop their counterparts, and Mario doesn't know how to open the container. Everyone fails. Not that their failure sticks...
  • A Totally Normal SMG4 Episode
    • Following the events of the previous episode, it turns out the SMG4 gang was merely banished to the Internet Graveyard with Susan. In order to escape, Mario needs to steal SMG3's cell phone with SMG4's hacked account on it. Mario chases SMG3 in an attempt to get the phone and try to get the YouTube Remote back. During the chase, SMG3 runs into Weegee Doll, who he sent to go buy him a hot dog earlier before being chased by Mario.
You'd Think: That if SMG3 is smart enough to trust Weegee Doll with the remote, that he'd be equally aware of his cell phone with SMG4's account on it. That way, if worse comes to worst, even if Mario succeeds in chasing him down, SMG3 would be able to send Mario back to the Internet Graveyard with no hope of escape, since he would neither have access to the remote or SMG4's account to reupload the original videos.
Instead: SMG3 only gives Weegee Doll the remote, and keeps the phone with himself.
As A Result: When Mario finally catches SMG3, he pickpockets him without SMG3 noticing and steals his phone before he ends up being sent to the Internet Graveyard by the Copyright Strikes summoned by Weegee Doll with the YouTube Remote, giving the SMG4 gang the means to escape the Internet Graveyard and get back at SMG3.

    Lawsuit Arc
  • Meggy and SMG4 race back with the Parody Contract to end the arc once for all. But just as the former leaps towards Judge Kirby, Lawyer Kong blocks her path and smacks the documents out of her hands, enabling Miyamoto to complete the Super DMCA signing, thus killing off the channel.
You'd Expect: Lawyer Kong to also destroy the Parody Contract by any means possible in order to leave ABSOLUTLEY NO CHANCE for the Super DMCA to be undone. The Bad Guy Wins (permanently). The End.
Instead: He never thinks of doing this.
As A Result: As she dies, Meggy slips the Parody Contract under Mario's hat, which he eventually discovers while using the bathroom in the following episode, giving him the means to undo the Super DMCA and bring all the original characters back to life.
