Go To

Friday Night Funkin' Logic is GameToons's third animation to become a series (after Among Us Logic and Minecraft Logic, and before Squid Game Logic and Poppy Playtime Logic), focusing on the Newgrounds rhythm game Friday Night Funkin' with all the naughty stuff save for blood removed for your convenience. Throughout mid-2021, it was their flagship series and their second one after Among Us Logic before being took over by Poppy Playtime Logic in 2022.

Player just wanted a break from his losing streak in Among Us, so he started branching out into other games. One of these being the internet-famed Friday Night Funkin'. Even after he manages to rebalance the scales of his luck in Among Us, he continues to get on wacky and sometimes even dangerous adventures with his new girlfriend, well...Girlfriend, all while meeting various characters along the way — canon and modded.

The playlist can be found here.note

Friday Night Funkin' Logic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Several characters, actually.
  • Adaptational Badass: Compared to Player's Among Us counterpart, who tends to be quite the loser who fails pretty much no matter what, this iteration of Player is able to not only score some wins, but even managed to beat Matt, the opponent of one of the hardest mods for FNF.
  • Adaptational Hairstyle Change: Girlfriend had her hair tied into a ponytail in the earlier episodes, in contrast to her wearing her hair down within the canon FNF universe.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Girlfriend, Pico, Skid, Pump, and Mommy Mearest in "Origin of Evil Boyfriend", while Daddy Dearest is hit with Adaptational Villainy. Since Daddy Dearest is the one causing the corruption in this episode, Girlfriend is trying to to stop him in order to save Player and the others from the virus. As a result, Pico, Skid, Pump, and Mommy Mearest join in so they can be freed from the virus and stop Daddy Dearest.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: A lot of characters suffer from this.
    • In AUL, Player was a Nice Guy, albeit one who became increasingly bitter due to being a Butt-Monkey. Here, he's an Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist who's easily angered, relentlessly cynical, and very sarcastic, and it takes him a while to start caring about Girlfriend. This could possibly be due to him having Took A Level In Cynicism at this point after having lost in Among Us so many times. And after he started winning at FNF consistently, it got to his head.
    • Parappa gets it even worse than Player. In his home series, he was a Heroic Dog and a Nice Guy. Here, he has a massive ego and is The Bully to Player in the school episode. He is also a huge Karma Houdini and gets little to no punishment for his actions.
    • While definitely not as bad as the previous two, Girlfriend has became more rude and whiny at times, which is in contrast to her supporting role in her home game.
    • Flippy (while in his non-violent mode) suffers from this too; he's still pretty nice, but can get frustrated with Player & Girlfriend misunderstanding why he can get into his non-violent mode.
    • Whitty was always a jerk, but he did have a soft spot for his girlfriend Carol, but here, he is more of a Sore Loser and even caused the town to explode with his anger. He seems to get better in the later episodes though.
  • Adaptational Modesty:
    • Downplayed with Girlfriend and Mommy Mearest, as they only wore slightly longer dresses in their first few appearances.
    • Played straight with Daddy Dearest when he was Genty Dearest, wearing a shirt underneath his jacket and covering up his chest hair and pubes. Even after reverting back to his canon design, his pubes are covered up, likely due to GameToons intending their videos to be advertiser-friendly.
  • Adaptational Nationality:
    • Played straight when Daddy Dearest was Genty Dearest, as he spoke in a British accent. Subverted in the later episodes, as his American accent matches that of several fanmade depictions of him.
    • This version of Senpai appears to be British, judging from his accent.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: A retroactive example. Monika and Senpai are a couple here, while in Doki Doki Takeover, the former isn't interested in the latter. Justified, as their relationship here was made back when the original mod was still Monika Full Week.
  • Adaptational Sympathy: Hank in Madness Combat was just as bloodhungry as Tricky and the Auditor, and in Project Nexus, he actually turned on Sanford and Deimos. Here, he's distraught over losing them and thinks the only way to stop Tricky is a suicide mission.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Minimized with Garcello because he was already a Nice Guy; however, this version of him respected Player's boundaries immediately when Player said he didn't want to smoke, and he didn't insist.
  • Adaptational Wimp:
    • Ruv gets slapped with this. In the canon lore of his home mod, he’s meant to be immortal due to his vow with Sarvente, but he his killed by Taki in the latter's debut episode.
    • Apparently, Player can't sing without his microphone, and as such actually loses against Mickey in the Creepypasta episode.
    • Due to the fact that not all songs are covered, quite a few characters go down far easier than their mods. Jeff the Killer is one of the more notable ones, as he doesn't even get a full song before Player knocks him out completely unscathed, compared to Jeff getting 4 full songs in his home mod on top of him getting a (rather bloody) hit on Boyfriend.
  • Adaptational Villainy: There are certain characters who get this treatment as well
    • In "Origin of Evil Boyfriend", Daddy Dearest is the culprit behind the corruption virus rather than one of its victims. Subverted come "Return of Evil Boyfriend", where it's revealed that Monster is the cause of the corruption virus just like in the original mod, and Daddy Dearest was merely a pawn of him.
    • Played straight with Ronald McDonald, who is a straight up Monster Clown whose “Chicken” Nuggets are actually made from humans. He takes customers who win his competitions and tortures them with the help of the Hamburgler and Grimace, and then turns them into meat. It’s also implied that he murdered the mascot of Burger King as Player and Girlfriend encounter his skeleton.
    • Also done to the literature club girls, Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki. While their home game made them victims to Monika's torture, this time the tables have turned in their desire for Revenge against her. And they're even worse than Monika ever was. They pretend to be the kind and caring members they once were in order to lure any boy that steps foot into their club into their trap and make them part of their collection. They altered the game's code so that they'd be the ones in control and turned the school into a dark labyrinth. They even threaten to take control of Monika's reality warping powers to enthrall boys to their will across the entire multiverse.
    • Daisy from Wrath Soul is a sweet, caring Robot Girl, who only really gets violent when she's possessed by someone else. The same can be said for her in the Vs. Stickman mod. Here, she acts Faux Affably Evil, blasted her way through a whole building, and warrants being locked up and destroyed by the Player. At no point is it indicated she's possessed by anything.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: The Boyfriend Expy Player becomes has light brown hair. Subverted when he beats Matt, when he sports Boyfriend's trademark blue hair.
  • Adapted Out:
    • Not counting Player, Boyfriend himself is nowhere to be seen.
    • While the Creepypasta episode mostly covers Friday Night Trepidation, Gold is noticeably absent, being replaced with a rematch against Mickey Mouse.
    • In the episode covering Doki Doki Takeover!, MC does not appear nor is mentioned.
    • In the Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby episode, Missingno does not appear.
    • While the second Vs Sonic.exe video coverage most of the 2.0 update, Sanic.exe, Eggman.exe, and EXE's faker disguise are noticeably absent.
  • Becoming the Mask: A rare heroic example. At the end of Player's battle with Matt, he turns into an exact copy of Boyfriend (minus his red beanie), and begins to genuinely love Girlfriend.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Player and Girlfriend are summoned by Hank to help him stop The Auditor on Girlfriend's birthday.
  • Bloodier and Gorier: Later episodes become less afraid to invoke violence in their stories, such as Flippy cutting open the bodies of his friends, Taki violently murdering Ruv with her chainsaw complete with a bloodstained hat, and Ronald McDonald being revealed to be a cannibal who serves human meat as “Chicken” Nuggets.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Hex under the control of the virus, just like in his actual mod.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Player pees himself before his battle with Zardy. Girlfriend and Zardy aren't too happy about this.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Player teases Matt about his height despite Girlfriend’s warnings, leading to the infamously hard "Boxing Match".
  • Cliffhanger Copout: Any dark episode that ends with a cliffhanger will be followed up by a normal episode as if nothing happened.
  • Covers Always Lie: The thumbnails have a habit of being misleading, often showing the Boyfriend in horrific situations that don't happen in the video itself. "Highlights" include Sarvente seducing him, Hank trying to kill him, and Garcello blowing smoke in his face.
  • Crossover: Any video that covers a crossover mod inevitably becomes this.
    • The "Impostor" videos in particular are a crossover with GameToons’s other huge series, Among Us Logic.
  • Denser and Wackier: Much like its predecessor, the series gradually strays away from what actually occurs in the game and gets into more bizarre storylines, whether it be Player becoming a werewolf, trying to escape an evil McDonalds, or a zombie apocalypse. Some of the later episodes don't even feature any rapping at all.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Due to budget cuts, Updike only gives the students three P.E. options. Dodgeball, dodgeball, and more dodgeball.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • In the early episodes before "Friday Night Funkin’ Logic, but Even More Mods", Boyfriend/Player, Girlfriend, Daddy Dearest, Skid, Pump and Pico were replaced with Expies.
    • In the very first episode, the music sung by the characters was composed in house. From “Friday Night Funkin’ Logic: Tankman” onwards, the music comes from the vanilla game or the actual mods.
    • "Friday Night Funkin, but even more Mods" has the rap battles be in the actual mods (with the Boyfriend and Girlfriend Expies being coded into the mod). Strangely, this is the only episode where this happens, as all other episodes have the rap battles be animated.
    • In earlier episodes, Girlfriend was Mrs. Exposition on the various mods Player encountered instead of being along for the ride with him. This is especially noticeable when Girlfriend knows about Tricky, yet nothing about Hank.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: In "Friday Night Funkin' but Anime", Player is easily adoring Monika's good looks, much to Girlfriend's annoyance.
  • Expy: For the first few episodes, all of the Friday Night Funkin' characters except for Mommy Mearest, Senpai and Tankman are replaced with similar-looking copies, possibly to avoid being Screwed by the Lawyers. Averted after Player defeats Matt, when he and the other FNF characters revert back to their canon designs, though Player decides to switch out Boyfriend's red ballcap for Player's traditional red beanie.invoked
  • Fourth-Date Marriage: In "Origin of Demon Girlfriend", Player proposes to Girlfriend, despite them only dating for a few months at most.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Both Whitty and Carol in "Friday Night Funkin' Logic, But ZOMBIES".
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Turns out, the “Chicken” Nuggets from McDonalds are actually made from humans.
  • "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Player to Hex, complete with “I know you’re still in there!”
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While Senpai is still his haughty, Sophisticated as Hell self, by the time "Girlfriend Breaks Boyfriend's Heart" takes place, he has a mutual respect for Boyfriend, and even gives him a bit of advice on love.
  • Kinder and Cleaner: Tankman’s no longer a Sir Swears-a-Lot. His curses are replaced by more minor insults such as “heck” and “turd”.
  • Lighter and Softer: Much like with Friday Night Funkin' WITH LYRICS, most of the more mature themes have been removed or altered, but the humor in the original game is still here. Most notably, Mommy Mearest dressed more conservatively in her first appearance and Tankman's insult towards Player is changed to "Well played, you little turd!" Even the gore has been removed (eg. Sky putting Girlfriend in handcuffs instead of crucifying her).
    • Subverted come "Taki: Sarvente's Evil Twin", in which Ruv gets killed by Taki, and later his hat can be seen lying on the floor, blatantly stained with blood.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Girlfriend tries face timing Player through Hex, but she has a bad connection and mentions they’re breaking up, which Player confuses "breaking up" as in their relationship. Granted, this isn’t her fault, as Player damaged Hex’s transmission receptors.
  • Pragmatic Adaptation: Whenever it'd be to keep the videos family-friendly or for the sake of not letting facts get in the way of a good old tale, GameToons somehow ends up with its own take on the mods and its characters.
    • Ruv is stated to be immortal due to his vow with Sarvente in the Mid-Fight Masses canon lore. Here, he's dead because of Taki. The canon lore also states that Sarvente will die if either she or Ruv broke their vow, but she's still alive as of her latest appearance in Selever's episode.
    • In the actual Spooky Month series, Skid and Pump weren't afraid of Mr. Clown. They are afraid of him here, and are constantly pursued by him.
    • In this series, Hank is willing to call Player for help, when in the actual Friday Night Funkin' Online VS. sees him trying to kill Boyfriend.
    • Jack is able to speak in the "Stickman VS" episode. The original mod and animations have him completely silent.
    • Some more Mid-Fight Masses lore-and-GameToons canon weirdness comes from Selever and Rasazy, the hypothetical children of Sarvente and Ruv. While they were portrayed accurately enough in their debut episode, things become different in "BOYFRIEND vs. SELEVER!!". Not only are they still around after Ruv's death when they should have ceased to exist in the Nothing World quite a while ago, but they've developed a Cain and Abel situation; Rasazy hopes to one day enter the canon world, but Selever thinks that their parents will not love them if they became real, so he not only puts down Rasazy for holding onto hope, but constantly kills clones of Sarvente and Ruv in the Nothing World.
    • Chernabog, a boss from Kingdom Hearts, appears as the entity controlling Mickey and causing him to become Mickey.AVI in his first two videos. Then it backtracks to Mickey being outright evil in "BOYFRIEND vs. CREEPYPASTA?!".
    • Jeff the Killer's knife, despite never stating so in his creepypasta of origin, is a weapon that corrupts whoever wields it, as Player is seen turning into something similar one he becomes in possession of the knife.
    • Sayori, Yuri, and Natsuki have become worse than in Doki Doki Takeover!, swearing to get their vengeance on Monika upon her return to the world of Doki Doki Literature Club!.
    • Senpai and Monika being a couple. Though this could be excused as the Doki Doki Takeover update to Monika Full Week hadn't been released yet, and Monika's exact relationship with Senpai in the original mod was unclear at the time.
    • Gold being misnamed "Silver" in the Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby video.
    • In the Vs Sonic.exe Round 2 video, the titular villain changes appearances to account for the new characters. Specifically, EXE (the second form), Xenophase, and Fleetway Super Sonic, in that order.
  • Pyromaniac: After flipping out for the second time, Flippy takes out a flamethrower and uses it to set everyone he sees on fire.
  • Sadistic Choice: Player is forced into one during the creepypasta episode: either he lets Mickey kill both him and Girlfriend, or he undergoes a Face–Monster Turn using Jeff's knife. Fortunately, Player Takes a Third Option: give Jeff his knife back, who proceeds to attack Mickey for engulfing him.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Flippy exaggerates this to an almost comedic degree, as words like "violent", "battle", "Vietnam" and "fire" are enough to trigger his PTSD, regardless of the context of said phrases.
  • Shout-Out: Player's Christmas sweater during the events of Week 5 reads, "Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal!"
  • Sickening Sweethearts: When Player meets back up with Monika and Senpai in "Girlfriend Breaks Boyfriend's Heart", they are absolutely in love with each other, even calling each other pet names. Player is visibly annoyed by this.
  • Southern Belle: Giggles talks in a prominent Southern accent, and her overall demeanor is cheerful.
Giggles: Oh howdy, Flippy! What a nice evenin' we're havin', isn't it?
  • Status Quo Is God: When Player is transformed into a demon, Daddy Dearest grows to like him and they spend time bonding in hell. Player grows to like his demon form as well and decides to stay that way forever. Unfortunately, Girlfriend changes him back without input from him, and Daddy Dearest is once again disappointed.
  • Suddenly Voiced:
  • Super-Deformed: Lampshaded by Player in "Girlfriend Breaks Boyfriend's Heart", by saying that they both have "freakishly deformed body proportions".
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: During gym class, Parappa attracts almost the entire class to his side through threats, leaving only four teammates on Player's side. Of course, they lost within seconds.
  • Take That!:
Player: Are Ghost McDonald’s any different from regular McDonald’s?
Garcello: The ice cream machine is never broken.
    Player: Dude! Lucky!
  • Tempting Fate: After barely fleeing Slenderman in the Creepypasta episode, Player hopes that he doesn't have to fight another monster anytime soon. Cue Jeff the Killer popping out of the bushes, who even finishes Player's sentence for him.
  • The Voiceless: Tricky never says a word, likely in reference to Madness Combat being a series without voice acting. The closest Tricky gets to having a voice are his screams. Subverted with Hank, who is Suddenly Voiced.
