- Confirmed in the 12-minute gameplay trailer — Ganke refers to Peter as ‘Mr. Parker’ before hastily correcting himself to ‘Spider-Man’.
- Just feels like it makes a lot of sense, you could include alts based off both from the comics and completely new designs. Maybe to differentiate the game from previous entries, Gwen could operate in a different city like Jersey meaning you can use a new sandbox or you could give her a piece of the Symbiote and go the Gwenom route.
- Jossed-instead, Cindy Moon (otherwise known as Silk) is introduced at the end of the game.
- We'll see Flash volunteering at F.E.A.S.T and if we talk to him, we'll get a few lines of dialogue where he expresses his admiration and even idolization of Spider-Man. Eventually, he'll admit that he even dressed up as Spider-Man and operated as a vigilante for a small time before hanging up the mask once things got too dangerous.
- Unlikely, I'm fairly sure there was an easter egg about Flash working to help fellow injured veterans, suggesting that he's already lost his legs, possibly setting him on the path to Agent Venom.
- Jossed. Flash Thompson's only mentioned in passing and flashbacks to Peter's high school year. In the latter scenario, we do see what he looks like as a American football cardboard stand.
- Eddie Brock is too well-known and liked for him to be omitted from the game without any backlash. Instead, Harry will be a lesser-known Symbiote user, like Toxin (which is fitting considering his condition) or a new identity altogether. His character arc will involve him being a vigilante who lets the Symbiote control him into brutally killing criminals. Once Peter makes him come to his senses, Harry will discard the Symbiote and it will end up on Eddie.
- However, Harry's rejection of the Symbiote means he will succumb to his illness and die. Norman will blame Spider-Man for this and go on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge as the Green Goblin.
- As an addendum: once Eddie goes through the inevitable Trauma Conga Line that costs him his job, his reputation, his health, his apartment... he immediately blames Spider-Man for it, and thus he crosses paths with Green Goblin and explains that he too is going after Spidey and that he knows his Secret Identity. Cue the Big Bad Duumvirate. Or, if they both share the belief that only they alone can destroy Spider-Man, things could easily go south.
- If they planned on Eddie becoming Venom in this universe, they would have introduced him in the first game. Some of the dynamics of Eddie- him being best friends with Peter, etc.- are adapted into Harry in this universe. As far as the character being too popular- Doctor Octopus is best known as Otto Octavius, but that didn’t keep Into the Spider-Verse from mixing things up. Besides the original was the 2nd highest selling PS4 game of all time, it’s not like they need the clout.
- I'm fairly sure Eddie was one of the signatures on the card Peter got when he left the Bugle (one of the Backpack relics). Not an actual appearance, but it references his existence, much like the backpacks reference Lizard, Mysterio and Sandman.
- Plus I'm fairly sure the best friend angle is exclusive to the The Spectacular Spider-Man; in Ultimate Marvel they were childhood friends who lost touch after their fathers died, and in the original story, Peter had no idea who Eddie was when he first unmasked him as Venom beyond recognising him from a news story about Eddie being disgraced, with no idea that Eddie blamed him for it.
- Jossed. According to this trailer, it seems Harry will be Venom. Besides, Insomniac is known for taking liberties with the established mythoi of various Spider-Man stories to make their own. This is only further reaffirmed in the final game.
- Outright Jossed. Harry is the first to bond with the symbiote, and he becomes Venom after it goes back to him.
- It'll be like the Hush sidequest in Batman: Arkham City, where Peter finds a few dead bodies and has to figure out where the killer is. The sidequest will end with the implication that he will become Carnage in a later installment.
- Alternatively, he could have a history with Eddie Brock, who is a journalist who contributed to his first arrest. He leaves around video messages at his crimes, like Black Cat did, just to goad Eddie into coming to him. Also, he could become Carnage in a future DLC campaign.
- Confirmed, though it's executed differently. Cletus Kasady is revealed to be the mastermind by the arson group The Flame, which is a dedicated series of side mission. After his defeat, it's teased that he managed to get a vial of symbiote for future endeavors.
- It'll build up to her becoming Spider-Gwen in the third installment.
- Or alternatively, Venom's presumed role in the sequel will allow them to set up Carnage-Gwen like in the Ultimate comics.
- She'll be a worker at Connors Labs with Eddie Brock, like in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon.
- Jossed. Gwen is nowhere to be seen in the game and isn't even mentioned.
- Either Harry or Eddie will be a possible Venom, depending on what choices the players makes. Perhaps whoever winds up symbioteless winds up dipping into Goblin serum instead.
- The deciding choice will be picking between working on a cure for Harry or helping Eddie get out of a dangerous situation: Developing a cure will mean that Harry won't have to rely on the symbiote for treatment, but leaving Eddie to fend for himself would alienate him towards Peter and/or Spider-Man and the symbiote will hate Peter for separating it from Harry, causing it to seek out Eddie. Helping out Eddie will cause him to keep a positive view of Peter/Spidey, but Harry will remain dependent on the symbiote and it's influence will eventually corrupt him into becoming Venom.
- Jossed. Harry is Venom the whole time.
- And, like in the comics, he will be hinted to be Hobgoblin (or equivalent Goblin-character), but this will be a Red Herring. And, yes, it would be a bit odd for a supposed good friend of Peter's not to get any mention throughout the first game, but there's a trope for that.
- It'd be hard to assume that he's the Hobgoblin if we're going for the Ganke Expy from Homecoming.
- He gets a bit older, starts using Goblin serum. I can see it.
- Or they could split the difference and have a mysterious new crime lord who specializes in computer hacking, we never see his face until the end when we see he is the Ned Leeds introduced earlier in the game. Thus Ned would be The Man In the Chair...OF CRIME.
- Jossed. No Hobgoblin yet.
- It'd be hard to assume that he's the Hobgoblin if we're going for the Ganke Expy from Homecoming.
- After they failed him the last time, Doc Ock (if not led by anybody else) will look for new villains in the Sinister Six to help him. Possible candidates include:
- Doctor Octopus: He'll be the Red Herring for the real Big Bad of the game.
- Unlikely. The second game implies that Octavius never escaped the raft and takes place a year after the first game. By that point Octavius would be completely unable to move.
- The Lizard: Curt Connors will start involuntarily transforming into the Lizard, so Doc Ock offers to help him find a cure. He will be a reverse "Get Back Here!" Boss where as the Lizard, he uses his keen sense of smell to track Peter down and he has to lead him to a trap.
- Kraven the Hunter: He will be a bounty hunter he hires. His missions will play similarly to the Deadshot sidequest from Arkham City where he keeps attempting to shoot Peter, and he has to figure out his pattern.
- Mysterio: Doc Ock uses his illusions to help him break out of prison. He will be Scorpion's replacement for the nightmare level.
- Chameleon: He uses his ability to hide in crowds, and Peter has to figure out the right one.
- Venom and/or the Green Goblin: With the Sequel Hook, they're inevitable.
- Another potential candidate is the Sandman, who could conceivably somehow escape the vial Peter has him trapped in. He'd join the Six to get revenge on Spider-Man for imprisoning him for so long and for keeping him away from his family.
- Hammerhead: After having his plans to completely take over the Maggia and eventually the City thwarted by Spider-Man despite essentially turning himself in a cyborg that can be brought back from the dead with just a high enough electrical voltage to jumpstart him, he would be laying low until Doc Ock comes to recruit him and his faction if only to provide the Six with disposable mooks like Li did with the Demons. Of course, Hammerhead will refuse at first, but is ultimately kowtowed when the other five completely trounce the gangsters Hammerhead brought and he himself becomes outnumbered 5 to 1, with Doc Ock then threatening to completely disable the resurrection effect on Hammerhead's suit and killing him off permanently. Considering the fact that was perfectly capable of fulfilling his side of the bargain with members of the previous Six, which includes possibly CURING CANCER, Hammerhead is not willing to risk going against the scientist.
- Aaron Davis/The Prowler: With Miles starting his superhero career, it would make sense to pit him against his criminal uncle.
- Fairly safe to say Jossed, Aaron was a secondary antagonist to Miles in the spin off. He ultimately was last seen having willingly given himself up to take down Kreiger, it'd be a reversal of his current Arc to turn on Miles again.
- Lady Octopus: A person with a connection to Octavius who believes hes right and comes a counterpart to Peter as a friend who follows him down into villainy.
- Screwball: Last minute choice as a person who can distract Spider-Man and the cops.
- Yuri Watanabe/Wraith: Having fully become Wraith, she'll join the Six under the pretense of wanting to remove people like Norman Osborn from power, but is actually planning on foiling the villains' plan from the inside before executing them all, thereby proving to Spider-Man that her methods are superior to his....unfortunately, Otto will be fully aware of her intentions and will use her to distract Spider-Man for him while he accomplishes his goals, at which point he'll discard her.
- Jossed. The Sinister Six never reforms, and after Electro, Vulture and Scorpion all die at the hands of Kraven and Mister Negative reforms, it's extremely unlikely we'll ever see it again.
- Doctor Octopus: He'll be the Red Herring for the real Big Bad of the game.
- Since places such as the Avengers Tower, Sanctum Sanctorum, Wakanda Embassy, and Alias Investigations existed as landmarks in those games, that means the heroes associated with these places might show up as well. They might do it like in those classic PS1 games where other supers appear for a moment as cameos to help support Spidey from time to time, but the main focus will be on Spidey himself. Plus, with everything that's going on in New York in this game, those other heroes just can't simply ignore it and may take a more active role in keeping the peace. My guess as to which heroes will show up is: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Man, and possibly Nick Fury and SHIELD.
- Jossed, as none of those heroes show up. However, a mystical artifact of Doctor Strange plays a role in a mission, and Fisk Tower is being reformatted into the Baxter Building.
- To add onto this, The Fantastic Four will play a big part in the second game. Marvel's First Family has been intertwined with Spiderman's mythos since the very beginning and in the comics, Reed Richards helps Spiderman study the Symbiote and discover its true nature. While I don't think the Spidermen will go to The Fantastic Four for help with any issues involving the Symbiote, it's more than possible that we'll see Peter and Miles meet them for the first time and have some sidequests working with them to deal with some old-school F.F villains. Help The Thing defeat The Hate-Monger and a group of Neo-Nazis/Hydra agents that are terrorizing Yancy Street, Race the Human Torch across the city like in Ultimate Spiderman, so-on, and so forth. These sidequests could even reward the player with Fantastic Four-themed costumes from What-If or the Empyre tie-in from a while ago.
- Jossed. However, Fisk Tower is being reformatted into the Baxter Building, so there might be hope down the line.
- Maybe Insomniac will take the idea that Richard and Mary Parker are government or SHIELD agents and run with it. Maybe the reason for their untimely deaths can be traced back to Norman Osborn and his secret projects.
- Jossed.
- Toad from the X-Men comics will appear in the next game and be gender-bent. She’ll be a one-time villains
- So evil Froppy?
- Jossed.
- More specifically, in a sequel he’ll always be hired under somebody’s guise laying out challenges for Spidey among other things.
- Jossed.
- Nope.
- It would make sense since Spider-Man would only work for a “Good” organization and any employers would be quick to realize this. Though SHIELD may be an “End justifies the means” type of group in this universe. Also in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon Spidey did work for SHIELD for a considerable amount of time.
- Jossed.
- Semi-confirmed. He's a teacher at the beginning but gets fired after the opening mission.
- It wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Otto to figure out how to use the neural interface to pull a body swap with Peter before the disease renders him paralyzed. It could possibly serve as a kind of Redemption Arc for this version of Otto.
- There is quite a bit of evidence pointing to this possibility. First, the story of the previous game hammers home how Otto's body is falling apart, and since his tentacle rig is wrecked and he's likely in jail by now, he has plenty of motivation to find a new one. And not only does Otto know who Peter is and what he's capable of, who better to hijack than the person who helped him design his neural interface? Second, while Marvel's Spider-Man has a plethora of suits available with more being added through downloadable content, two of the most glaring omissions were the Symbiote Suit and the Superior Suit- and Insomniac has gone on record stating that the Black Suit would be dealt with in a sequel (which is now backed up by the presence of Venom in the trailer), so the Superior Suit might end up being a sequel plotline as well. Third, Peter is using some suspiciously Superior Spider-Man-esque mechanical spider legs in the trailer. And fourth, and probably most telling... who at Marvel had a big hand in the story of Marvel's Spider-Man? Dan Slott and Christos Gage, the chief architects of the Superior Spider-Man comics.
- I doubt it would lead to a redemption arc, the comics found it hard enough to get people to accept Otto, how do we expect them to push a game where you play a former bio-terrorist who stole the body of a hero we have loved for a long time, presumably murdering him. The fact is that while some people have grown to like the story some, like myself, still despise it, and it would be a major risk, like them trying to use the Clone Saga for a plot line.
Namely, Peter and Miles.
- Jossed. It's single player only though the player gets to switch between Peter and Miles.
- Though not in person, but as the host of his own podcast show that works to build up support for Spider-Man (harkening back to his old role as a Spidey fanboy) in direct opposition to JJJ's efforts. They'll have a fierce rivalry, with the two often responding to each other's broadcasts and having heated debates, though Jonah will try to be respectful towards Flash since he's a veteran—but only just barely.
- Jossed, though he's mentioned by Peter and Harry.
- With Otto out of the picture, that's where you'll go to do your little science-related minigames. Oh, and some plot stuff might happen there too.
- Confirmed.
- Peter won't want to wear something that reminds him of what happened to Otto, so he'll craft a entirely new suit and wear it as his primary costume. The Advanced Suit will still be available though, as an unlockable suit.
- The reason, at least, is looking pretty jossed at this point. First off; he’s still wearing the Advanced Suit in his brief appearances in the Miles Morales game, a year after the Devil’s Breath incident. Second off; while he does seem to have changed to a new suit in the trailer for the next game, there is something very telling about it; its Iron Spider legs. Now, the Doylist reason for these are undoubtedly that Insomniac saw the popularity of the Iron Spider suit and wanted to make a version of it that was actually canon to their story, as opposed to an ancillary costume. The Watsonian reason, though? Peter perfected the neural interface that was such a problem on Otto’s arms and is now using a set of his own as the force of good they were meant to be originally. Far from trying to distance himself from any memory of Otto, he’s trying to honor the man Otto once was.
- It's also possible that the legs are a Doylist way to replicate the powers of the symbiote without wasting the invested upgrade points. Or maybe the symbiote powers will be a beefed-up version of the legs. Given the reveal trailer, it's probably the first one.

- Given the disappointment over the Bait-and-Switch used to give Miles his powers and the feel that they They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot of giving MJ powers they may give her powers in the sequel. There are actually a few ways they can do this.
- The obvious is that she encounters another Spider, that is more inclined to bite her. They could try that, though it would risk claims of being derivative and recycling the plot for a third time (Peter was bit as some point as well)
- She could find a suit able to replicate Peter's powers, similar to the suit she wears in Renew Your Vows.
- Or if Harry as Venom (or another symbiote) is a key part of the second game, MJ could get a symbiote, again homaging the story in Revew Your Vows, as well as her role in the last few episodes of the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, which her reporting job already homages.
- Furthermore giving MJ spider powers would allow Spider Gwen, Jessica Drew, Maday and other popular female spiders to be given roles in the game as costumes, Like Ben, Kaine and Miguel have such a role for Peter without the massive Gameplay Story Segregation putting those costumes onto the male Peter would cause.
- Sort of, though it's short-lived. Venom infects Mary Jane with a symbiote, causing her to become Scream, though she's quickly defeated.
Of course, there is a reason for Spider-Man trying to find Black Cat again, and she's forced to come out of retirement to help out. She will also have an added Berserk Button that is pressed whenever someone refers to the Dopplegangar as "it" and/or "that".
- Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 suits
- Jossed for the TASM 1 suit since it was included in an update for the first game (at least in terms for being included in the first game, it might be included again possibly).
- Confirmed. Both suits show up.
- Spider-Man 3 Black Suit
- Confirmed.
- Comic Book Black Suit
- Confirmed.
- Raimi Wrestling Suit
- Jossed.
- TASM 1 Vigilante Suit
- Jossed.
- Superior Spider-Man Suit
- Confirmed.
- Japanese Spider-Man Suit (Toei)
- Jossed.
- Far From Home Suit (Possibly called Stark Suit Mk. II or something along those lines)
- Jossed; it was included in the original game as "Upgraded Suit".
- Spider-Man Unlimited Suit
- Jossed.
- Captain Universe
- Sensational (Ben Reilly)
- Spider-Carnage
- Ricochet, Hornet, Dusk, and Prodigy
- Arachnoman
- Into The Spider-verse version of Noir with hat and trenchcoat (alongside the original Noir suit).
- Confirmed.
- if Miles is playable, he could have his own set of suits, like the Halloween costume from Into the Spider-Verse (with or without cape)
- Both are confirmed. Miles has his own set of suits and the costume is indeed one of them.
- Spider-Gwen
- Wouldn't that be a bit weird?
- Spider-Phoenix (Spider-Man with the Phoenix Force)
- Web-Man
- Arachknight
- Confirmed: Early access to Arachknight for Peter and Shadow Spider for Miles has been confirmed as part of the Pre-Order bonuses.
- The suit Peter wore at the very end of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
- Isn't that just his classic suit?
- Confirmed.
- Alternate suits for the symbiote, including a cel-shaded comic book suit, Spider-Man 3 style symbiote, Tel-Kar, Venompool, Agent Venom, and some original designs created for the game.
- Spider-Carnage
- Peter B's bathrobe from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
- Very unlikely. The Punisher mantle is so closely associated with Frank Castle in the comics that Insomniac won't risk alienating the fanbase by having someone else wearing the skull.
- Jossed. The 12 minute gameplay reveal features a brief appearance of a fully costumed Wraith in Kraven's list of enhanced individuals based in New York, confirming that Yuri has officially taken on that moniker.
- Confirmed. He only has it for the middle third.
- Unlikely. Aaron is serving a reduced sentence in prison after the events of Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
- Jossed. Venom is the final boss.
- Reason number 1: It would be out of character for Peter, the hero who embodies responsibility and helping the little guy, to abandon people who he's helping.
- Reason number 2: It would be a good way to honor May, to continue her work.
- Confirmed. When Harry is left comatose after the final boss, Norman gets on the phone and says to "get the G-Serum ready ASAP."
- But she'll be a teenager. Instead of the usual Peter, MJ, Gwen love triangle, Gwen is introduced as Miles' love interest similarly to Into The Spider-Verse. She may or may not get powers.
- Her plotline will be similar to Miles' from the first game leading to her gaining Spider powers of her own and then her own spin-off game, perhaps to not be a straight repeat of Miles' character arc she could gain her powers early on and take up the Ghost-Spider identity in time for the Climax.
- Jossed.
- Both jossed. Black Cat only appears briefly and is no longer villainous, while Silver Sable does not appear at all.
- Will wind up being the anti-Doc Octopus storyline-wise. He’ll start off as a monster- or will become one by the end of Act I- but Peter will be able to reach him and bring him back to the light. It’ll be a redemption of sorts for Peter who partially blames himself for not being able to save Octavius.
- Will become a vigilante. There’s a line in his journal from the first game- “little bit of bad to do a lot of good”- that’s just so on the nose, it’s impossible to not read it as foreshadowing. Whether or not it’s as Venom/Anti-Venom/Hobgoblin/whatever, he’ll end the game as an antihero vigilante. He might even wind up targeting Norman, depending on how he reacts to the news about Devil’s Breath- this version of Harry is much more of a humanitarian and will likely be horrified that what was an attempt to cure him led to the deaths of thousands of people, including Aunt May, who Harry was presumably close to.
- Is gay. This one is kind of reaching but it fits. Besides representation, this version of Harry has some tropes associated with being gay- he’s really close to his mom (let’s be honest, calling her “the prettiest mom at midtown” is freaking Norman Bates-level weird if he’s straight), he’s distant with his dad (Norman being at least mildly homophobic could explain why he prefers Peter if that character dynamic exists in this universe- the usual reason, that Harry’s a slacker or depends on Pete, doesn’t fit in this narrative) and he’s much more mature/arguably slightly more feminine than usual. Plus- the past few iterations of Harry have had been the source of an ocean of Ho Yay, so making him canonically gay would be the next logical step.
- 1. Jossed. He doesn't become firmly on the side of evil until the final act.
Why not say anything? There are several reasons.1: Out of respect for May's memory.2: Peter himself seemed to be a well liked volunteer.3: We know Spidey personally saved Gloria and helped Howard with the pigeons, the implication is that he may have helped a lot of them.
This could lead to a moment similar to Spider-Man 2 where F.E.A.S.T rallies to protect Peter from a villain, or alternatively a moment where a villain turns the city against Peter and the people of F.E.A.S.T give him a group pep talk the strength to get back in the fight.
- X-Men specific villains like Toad as minibosses (see above).
- A casual reference or two to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and/or Wolverine.
- A sidequest involving mutants.
- Logan himself in a small cameo.
- A Wolverine or X-Men inspired Spider-suit.
- Confirmed! Miles gets a Wolverine inspired suit called the "Best There Is" suit
- The symbiote will bond with Eddie Brock, but it will blame Spider-Man for its rejection more so than Harry as an impossible standard he couldn't live up to.
- Without the symbiote to keep him alive, Harry will either be forced to take the Goblin serum or perish.
- If the latter occurs, expect Norman to take the serum instead, blaming Spider-Man for Harry's death and seeking revenge.
- Clone Saga: The clone saga is controversial and would be a challenge for a game to focus on, but they have the advantage of the 8 year time skip, in the first game they established a lot of members of the rouges gallery that weren't in the main game, as well as several heroes through the backpack tokens and the photo collectibles, it could easily be revealed through a similar means that the clone saga happened already, setting up both Miles Warren and Kaine to appear in a Spider Island Game as both are major characters in the comic.
- Horizon Labs: The easiest thing to set up, Peter lost his Job at the end of the previous game, given that Octavius Industries being shut down, assuming he continued as a scientist it'd make sense for him to try and get a job at Horizon. This could perhaps explain how Peter built the new arms on his suit.
- Agent Venom/Anti-Venom: Either Anti-Venom will be Harry Osborn like the Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon, in which case perhaps he gets the AV symbiote from Norman trying to use Devil's breath on him after losing the symbiote, or Eddie becomes Anti venom somehow, while in a Post Credits scene, we see Flash get the Venom Symbiote as Agent Venom.
- And in either this game or a future one, skins for Agent Venom will include some looks like his Guardians of the Galaxy look and Agent Anti-Venom.
- Alternately, as a nod to the Anti-Ock Suit from the first game, Peter becomes Anti-Venom for the final battle against Venom, and just like in the comics, does so by fusing a fragment of the Venom symbiote with Mr. Negative's powers.
- The Queen: Perhaps references to her could be made like the clone saga, through background building collectibles.
- Other heroes: Spider Island is not just a Spider-Man story, a lot of heroes are included, particularly in the massive fight between all the Spider-Man impersonators and the Avengers, perhaps some of these heroes could show up in cut scenes or even side missions and and DLCs to set up a massive Spider Island Crossovers.
- Spider Sense: During Spider Island Peter is missing his Spidey Sense, leading to a dramatic moment where he gets it back, perhaps a City that Never Sleeps style DLC chain could lead to Peter losing his spider sense, setting that up similar to how CTNS set up Yuri become Wraith. The missing spider sense could also set up a tougher combat experience until the fight with Tarantula, at which point Spidey would be even more of an Apex than ever before.
Kaine would actually be a very good candidate for a spin off as he has his own USP like Miles; Miles had the Venom Blasts and the invisibility, Kaine has his brutality and his stingers, where say Spider Gwen would play pretty much as just 'Spider-Man, but with a girl's body' and Ben would literally be Spider-Man's clone. Kaine could play as sort of Spider-Man meets Assassin's Creed, particularly since Insomniac are already doing a more violent hero with Wolverine.
- It would also be an ideal way to keep the Symbiote playable after Peter inevitably shakes the thing.
- Semi-confirmed. Harry dons an Agent Venom-esque suit and briefly serves as an ally, but is not playable. When he becomes Venom, he's playable for one mission and you're stuck with him by default.
- It might also be a standalone game like the DLC for Arkham Origins or inFAMOUS: First Light
If Harry's expected to be Venom, Peter and MJ would likely recall flashbacks during their time in high school, before Peter gained his powers. Heck, maybe there's a flashback level where we play as pre-bitten Peter in the very lab he was bitten (likely Peter showing-and-telling Miles what exactly he and his friends were like before he became Spider-Man and how he gained his abilities).
- Half confirmed. Harry and Peter do appear in flashbacks, but without MJ, and Peter does have his powers.
While neither Gwen's 616 death nor her 1610 death can be canon to this universe (616 Gwen obviously died to Green Goblin, Norman has yet to adopt this role, and, assuming that this is Venom's debut, Carnage, 1610 Gwen's killer, will almost certainly not be around yet) but perhaps the original Gwen Stacy was a classmate, friend and possibly even girlfriend of Peter who died a few years before, perhaps Gwen was killed by Cletus Kassidy, a subtle nod to her 1610 fate and foreshadowing Kassidy's future fate.
As with the original 616 version, Miles Warren, who was obsessed with Gwen, attempted to clone her back to life, at the same time beginning his work on cloning Peter, possibly creating Ben Riley, probably creating Kaine and so one. This creates 2 possibilities for Spider Gwen:
- 1: In an attempt to make Gwen able to defend herself Miles deliberately crossed her DNA with Peter Parker's
- 2: Accidentally a sample of Gwen's DNA was mixed with Peter's.
Either result causes a clone of Gwen Stacy to be born with spider powers. Perhaps, for one reason or another, she ends up a teenager, making her an equal/potential love interest for Miles. It could also open up multiple possible plotlines for Gwen, perhaps her backstory could be explained through the story, with Peter initially surprised to see her alive for example. Furthermore if they did make Kassidy her killer, it would introduce an interesting stance for her story if a later game brings in Carnage.
- OP: It would also be a way to bring Spider-Gwen into the universe without just repeating exactly what they did with Miles in the first game, or bringing in the multiverse, which the MCU is making quite extensive use of right now.
This would make her a Foil to Otto, too. Yuri's lost sight of protecting the world after her experiences with Hammerhead, but is willing to set high standards and (partially) know right from wrong. Of course, when forced with work alongside Spider-Man one last time, they'll quip each other for old times sake until they reach a mutual agreement. Yuri would be an example that she's still Yuri, just traumatized and wanting to do the right thing. She never intended to turn evil; just bring justice to those who've escaped it too much.
If Peter would cross a Despair Event Horizon (while under the influence of the symbiote), Yuri would come to notice the drastic change in the friendly-neighborhood Spider-Man and go through a My God, What Have I Done? when she realizes her path into darkness has deeply affected Spider-Man and literally became personal when she turned on him. After saving him from the symbiote, Yuri apologizes to Spider-Man for breaking his trust, becoming a sort of light in Peter's constant life-imbalance, and shows him that his Friend on the Force was never truly gone after all, completely contrasting his incident with Otto.
While using the app, Peter will talk about how convenient it is, making a quip about how he initially had to wait until a report to the police was made before taking action.
- Confirmed, both Peter and Miles use the app for side missions.
George Stacy will likely take Yuri's place in the sequel as Captain Stacy of the PDNY. George Stacy's appearance will give us an introduction to his daughter, Gwen Stacy, similar to how Jefferson Davis' involvement in the first game introduced us to Miles Morales. Part of the story arc in the sequel will be Captain Stacy introducing himself as the new captain due to Yuri's suspension/disappearance. In fact, part of Stacy's plot in the story is actually him tracking down Yuri and, like her before him, George tolerates and calls Spider-Man often to give him a heads-up because he's aware Spidey's a decent guy and actively wants to help the police as opposed to Yuri's methods and vocally disapproves of the Wraith's extremism.
And probably to make his arc more interesting, George has a history with Yuri and her family. It's mentioned in the DLC that Yuri's father was a Dirty Cop, which George could've been involved in, and/or was Yuri's mentor on the force. Yuri would have some kind of animosity towards Stacy, and if so, it wouldn't help her mindset that George takes her place as Spider-Man's new police informant and captain. This would likely drive her to go after Gwen, and George practically begs the Spider-Men to protect his daughter.
This will be how Gwen meets Peter and Miles and, if it is planned that Gwen will gain spider powers, they'll become a Power Trio.

And within the context of the gameplay reveal, we can speculate that it takes place right after Peter recovers the symbiote after it'd been stolen, possibly by Curt Connors or some other party. Stressed out by the onslaught of Kraven's forces closing in, Connors turning into the Lizard before he can give out information, and the discovery of Harry's terminal illness, this causes Peter to become vulnerable enough to accept the symbiote's power for one more ride, but it's using said vulnerability to try to permanently bond with him again like before. This might somewhat explain 1) why Peter seems to be putting it on when he burst out of that basement instead of already wearing it, and 2) why he seems to already have experience with tendril combat.
- Jossed. The symbiote as a whole is a foreign concept to him.
The Symbiote Suit will also be available in New Game Plus, allowing players to see it in all real-time cutscenes.
- This might explain why Venom made Peter's Spidey-Sense go off in the reveal trailer. He straight up wasn't there in the actual cutscene. If this was before the symbiote bonds to Peter, then why would he willingly wear the suit that drove his best friend insane?
- Likely jossed. The latest TV spot shows both Miles and Peter fighting Venom.
Not only does the intial trailer seem to tease this with Venom appearing and accepting Kraven's challenge (on top of the playable Spider-Men), it would also allow the Black Suit combat features to be used without breaking the story.
With Peter freed from the symbiote at the end of the second act, Venom joins forces with Kraven to hunt down the superhuman and vigilantes in the city, turning it into a war zone.
With Kraven taking over New York as his new "hunting ground", the vigilantes, including Peter and Miles, go into hiding and join forces as they all now share a common enemy. Peter and Miles will have a heart-to-heart on what happened with the symbiote as the former recovers from the corruption. After collecting himself, Peter ends up leading the Ragtag Band of Misfits (including Black Cat, Prowler, Wraith, Tombstone, etc.) against Kraven and Venom to take back the city. As the team splits up with different tasks, Peter and Miles help each group before the final battle will end up being Venom, who was using Kraven from the start.
- Jossed. Venom kills Kraven soon after Harry gets the symbiote back.
- Jossed. The symbiote actually bonds when Harry is trying to help Peter after Kraven stabs him.
- Alternatively, Peter might reluctantly decide that Connors stands a better chance of evading Kraven and his henchmen in Lizard form and trigger the change for his own protection.
- Jossed. Kraven is the one who causes Connors to transform.
- Mostly confirmed. Harry doesn't technically die, but he's rendered comatose to the point that he may as well be dead, at least in the state he's in when we see him last, and Norman orders for the Goblin serum to be prepared but is not shown on screen taking it.
Option 1: Miles loses the fight and the state Peter leaves him in snaps Peter out of it, resulting in a Battle in the Center of the Mind between Peter and Venom, akin to The Spectacular Spider-Man S1 E12 "Intervention" and the encounters with Martin Li after the APC chase and in the antiserum lab.
Option 2: Miles has to incapacitate Symbiote Peter, weakening the Symbiote enough to allow for segments of Peter in the aforementioned Battle in the Center of the Mind, likely in several stages where they symbiote gets the upper hand forcing Miles to incapacitate him again.
- Jossed, though Miles does find a way to incapacitate Peter and the Symbiote. The fight is part beating up Symbiote Peter and part trying to talk him out. The end does feature Miles hitting the bell to weaken the Symbiote long enough for Peter to rip it off from himself, though.
And speaking of Spider-Bots, if Ganke will have the honor of control his own, he could use it to help MJ, Peter, or even Miles will they're undercover and help them get past hazards before his bot will continue onward.
- It can be a loose adaptation of Kraven's Last Hunt.
It can also be zig-zagged somewhat; Peter sheds the symbiote after realizing he's come too far, which will then lead to Harry becoming a twisted and feral Venom. When that beast is dealt with (whether Harry dies or not) the symbiote will then finally jump to Eddie and become the prime Venom and Final Boss, which would be the one we've seen in promo art so far. So while Eddie ultimately becomes Venom, he isn't the first Venom; akin to Marvel's Spider-Man.
- Jossed. The game takes place before Across the Spider-Verse.
- Seemingly confirmed in the Story Trailer, which shows armed men led by Norman encountering the Symbiote in what appears to be a small crater, complete with flames lingering around the edges. It’s not unlikely that this was the exact moment the Symbiote was discovered, shortly after arriving on Earth.
- Confirmed. When MJ shocks Peter into consciousness, the symbiote takes over and all MJ can do is run.
- It would be a case of Both Sides Have a Point that could cause a brief rife between the Spider-Men, until they agree to Take a Third Option.
- Peter can persuade Miles not to let his hatred blind him to Spider-Man's responsibility by bringing up how he was once in a similar position with Uncle Ben's killer. This would be the first time this iconic lore is referenced.
B. It'll persist until the middle of the game, before that it will either appear in some missions after being gone for a few as it takes over Peter and he loses control over it. It may or may not be optionally equippable in between story, side missions, and free roam in between these moments.
As for how he loses the symbiote and what happens afterwards to the black suit mechanics...
A. Miles will end up somehow driving the symbiote away and the black suit powers won't be usable until the end of the game, where Peter will gain it back as Anti-Venom in the very last mission or close to it (mirroring the Anti-Ock Suit) and in the post-game he can freely use the symbiote powers this way.
B. Near the beginning or middle of the game, Miles will try to beat some sense into Peter and drive the symbiote away and fail, and after doing some research and finding out that the dragon's breath virus that gave Martin Li his powers and the symbiote have a wierd interaction, and Miles will do the unthinkable, seek out Martin Li or break him out of Rikers in an effort to save Peter, and after fighting Symbiote Peter a second time, Negative managed to drive away the sentient part of the symbiote and purify what's left into Anti-Venom, after this, the symbiote suit powers will be accessible via some sort of super meter mechanic in gameplay. Shortly after these events Negative will start antagonizing the city or again or just plain leave, which is why he won't be able to do it for Harry, Eddie, or whoever the "main" Venom host is.
- Confirmed. Peter gets the Anti-Venom suit near the end of the game.
- Not on screen, but Kraven is using suspicious potions and treatments to enhance himself, which could come from Calypso.
- Spider-Man 3.
- Venom (2018).
- Agent Venom.
- The Mac Gargan Venom.
- Anti-Venom.
- Spider-Man Unlimited
- The Ultimate Universe.
- Other possible Symbiotes (excluding Carnage since he's a popular enough character to show up on his own), like Toxin or Riot.
- Jossed. While Venom is playable, he receives no costumes.
- Jossed. It's Miles.
- Electro might have finally achieved his goal of becoming pure energy, meaning Kraven Never Found the Body
- One of the villains of the third game will be the Jackal, who replaced some or all of them with clones
- Shocker was only put in critical condition and after being healed of the injuries sustained from his fight with Kraven, decided to turn over a new leaf like Tombstone and Mysterio did.
- Scorpion's enhanced physiology allowed him to survive an injury that would be fatal for a normal human, with the poison in his tail putting him in a deathlike coma.
- Vulture was acknowledged by Spidey in the first game as being the smartest of his foes. It's conceivable that he could've schemed up a way to escape from Kraven and trick him into thinking he had been killed.
His character page brings up several points in which his plot and powers hue closer to Knull than Venom, as well as mentioning his symbol on the meteor and the symbiote goons. Perhaps Venom was acting simply as an agent of Knull, perhaps even he fell back under Knull's sway when he came into contact with the meteor.
- Given the Insomniac leaks, there's a ton of cut content in the game and story. Venom's original plan was to take over an oscorp tower and use its technology to create a portal to allow more symbiotes and symbiote infected creatures to invade earth with the Spider-Men ultimately putting a stop to it. There's a chance Knull had something to do with that, but given how powerful he is, legit at cosmic levels of power, I doubt he was involved as this would imply the Spider-Men fighting him. They are being pushed as strictly street-level heroes and couldn't even touch him.
Assuming that Peter is not killed in the game, and he and MJ get to settle down then, at the end of the game, we will cut to about a decade and a half later, where the old guard of Spiders will be training Mayday Parker as Spider Girl as the final scene.
Otto intends to capture Peter so that he can transfer his mind into him. This'll lead to a Battle in the Centre of the Mind with ultimately, Peter winning.
- Doubtful on Krieger as he was just a corrupt short sighted businessman with no powers, abilities or even implied fighting skills so what would recruiting him serve.
- If not Krieger than Rhino could take his place.
- Highly unlikely, as canon events 1) are not a singular thing so Miles having "his" canon event isn't how it works, and more importantly, 2) they aren't real, which is the whole point of the movie.
- Not directly confirmed, but hinted at. Insomniac stated in November 2023 that Miles will be the main Spider-Man in their universe moving forward.
- Given that when we find Chameleon's apartment, he leaves a message for Kraven mentioning the drink he set out was prepared in a way Kraven explicitly dislikes, as well as the poison trap further in, they clearly weren't on good terms, so it'd be odd if they did work together in this one specific instance.
- And adding to this, in 1, Otto made a deal with A.I.M. So while Hydra may not be involved in the creation of Superior Octopus this time around, A.I.M. might just be taking their place
- This will result in a Dueling Player Characters Boss Battle, like with Symbiote Spider-Man and Miles in the original. Afterwards, Miles will go through a Battle in the Center of the Mind to defeat Otto.
- Like I mentioned above for a similar theory: Given the Insomniac leaks, there's a ton of cut content in the game and story.
Given how many people are speculating that Peter will die in the 3rd game, this would be an excellent way to subvert these expectations similar to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and give the franchise, which admittedly does see the heroes lose someone in every game, have a Surprisingly Happy Ending.
While it could be Miles or Venom, the flashbacks to young Peter feels like they could be setting up a shorter prequel game looking at teen Peter. Costumes could focus on some of the early suits, including a return of the Wrestler suit, Tobey's Wrestler suit and Andrew's Vigilante suit.
- A blood donation from Peter or Miles results in her developing her powers. Possibly with the 'pheromonal' aspect being translated as a temporary side-effect of her powers stabilizing due to the rather unorthodox method of obtaining them compared to every other Spider-person in-universe.
- She already has her powers by the time she's introduced with the explanation being that when MJ broke into Osborn's penthouse and knocked over specimen cases that released 42, which later bit Miles, another specimen escaped which found its way out and eventually bit Cindy, giving her her own powers.
- Speaking of MJ breaking into Norman's penthouse, there's a magizine article in the penthouse that reveals that there's a cottage industry of scientists trying to figure out how Spider-Man's powers work. Thus, Cindy's powers will come from an experiment trying to replicate Peter's powers—either purposely as the result of someone (possibly her father) experimenting on her or unintentionally with Cindy being exposed to the process by accident.
- Black Cat: It will go into her rescue for her girlfriend in Paris.
- Venom: It will detail them spreading the Symbiote. Eddie Brock will play a role in the story.
- Wraith: It will detail her tracking down The Flame and ends with a battle with Carnage.
- The Superior Spider-Man: The Stinger showed that Otto Octavius will be returning. So, to get back at Peter for thwarting him, he will steal his body and commit crimes impersonating him.
- Spencer and Alistair Smythe: Osborn will commission the former to build the Spider Slayers to get revenge against the Spider-Men, and the latter will act as The Heavy in his Ultimate Spider Slayer form.
- Carnage and Shriek: That is if their story doesn't get resolved in DLC for this game. Osborn will seek out Cletus Kasady after finding out he has a Symbiote sample in a last ditch effort to save Harry. The straw that makes Osborn become the Green Goblin is when the Spider-Men destroy the Carnage Symbiote.
- AIM: The organization was briefly mentioned all the way back in the first game and will finally come to forefront in the third game. The group will back Norman and Otto's revenge scheme against the Spiders, hoping to exploit it for their own ends, only to be betrayed and their leadership killed by the newly minted Green Goblin.
- Maybe for a Venom spin-off, but Spider-Man is too marketable for kids for an M-Rated game. Batman only got away with it because it was always a dark franchise, and the first three Arkham games pushed the limits of the T-Rating.
- That doesn't necessarily rule the possibility out, though. Batman is almost as popular with kids as Spider-Man, if not just as popular - Arkham Knight's M rating made headlines upon its announcement because Batman's normally all-ages demographic was why it was so surprising.
- Hydro Man: He could be the warm-up boss, like Sandman in this game.
- Alternatively, he could take inspiration from the 94 cartoon and have him be MJ's possessive ex-boyfriend, making him a more personal foe. If they go this route, they can play up his creepiness factor and his fight will instead be a tense sequence where you have to evade him attacking you from potentially anywhere.
- Shocker: Particularly, Jackson W. Brice, since Herman Schultz is dead.
- The Prowler: However, it'll be Hobie Brown. He'll have found Aaron's old lair and was able to replicate his gear. When he starts committing crimes, Miles will fear that Aaron relapsed.
- The Spot: With the character gaining more popularity after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it's possible. His mission could function like the Black Cat chase, where you have to chase him through portals.
- Hobgoblin: Roderick Kingsley or Ned Leeds could have a supporting role in the story as a business partner of Norman Osborn, and after the Green Goblin is defeated, they find the Goblin gear and cause trouble in a DLC. If Harry wakes up from his coma, Peter will suspect he is trying to avenge his father.
- The Spider Slayers: As mentioned above, Norman could hire Spencer Smythe to build the Spider Slayers to destroy the Spider-Men.
- Morbius: He will be the final boss of a series of sidequests where the Spider-Men find and cure people he turned into vampires.
- The Jackal: He will clone the villains that have been previously killed to fight the Spider-Men.
- Bullseye: Though he's normally a Daredevil villain, he is often portrayed as The Dragon to Kingpin. Fisk hires him from prison to take out Spider-Man.
- The Thousand: He appears in a series of sidequests that plays out like a murder mystery where you have to find the source of empty skins. Could be a chance to had some more horror to the game.
- Iguana: Mainly as an excuse to bring a variation of the intelligent Mad Scientist Lizard after Conners was a feral version in the previous game. They could play up his origin as a test animal to make him more of a eco-terrorist with a grudge against humanity.
