Strong Family Resemblance / Western Animation

Go To

Strong Family Resemblances in Western Animation.

  • Adventure Time: Joshua and Margaret (Jake the dog's parents) look exactly like him. The only difference is that they wear hats and Margaret has eyelashes. His brother Jermaine looks similar to his parents, save for his thick bushy eyebrows and chin stubble. Humorously lampshaded in the Adventure Time: Distant Lands special "Together Again", where Tiffany calls Joshua, Margaret and Jermaine "Hat Jake", "Lady Jake" and "Worse Jake" respectively.
  • The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius:
    • Jimmy Neutron has inherited his father Hugh's brown hair and skin tone, and his mother Judy's head shape. Though their eye colors are all different, they each have a swirl somewhere in their hair (Jimmy's is on top, Hugh's is sideways, Judy's is at either end).
    • Cindy Vortex has inherited her eye color and skin tone from her mother and her bangs design from her father. Her Aunt Susie looks exactly like her mother but with bulkier skin and a fuller face.
    • Carl Wheezer looks like a younger version of his father, but with a different hairstyle.
    • Most of Hugh's relatives (Amanda, Kari, Gomer, and Annabelle) share his exact face design.
  • The titular character of The Amazing World of Gumball looks almost identical to his mother Nicole, which Gumball sometimes uses to his advantage i.e. impersonating her.
Gumball: Oh my goodness! My son Gumball has dressed up as me and attended the PTA meeting in an attempt to stop this ban! You're in big trouble mister!
Nicole: Okay, "Nicole." I think you should ground your son for a month.
    • Nicole, on the other hand, has the same head shape as her father, while she gets her fur color from her mother.
    • To a lesser extent, Gumball's sister Anais takes after her father Richard and by extension her paternal grandmother Joanne, looking like a younger version of her.
    • Richard himself is essentially a pink rabbit version of his father Frankie, who is a grey rat with the same body shape as his.
  • American Dragon: Jake Long: Jake looks like his father in many ways, bearing the same head shape, spiky hairstyle, and thick eyebrows, but his facial features, skin tone, and hair color come from his mother.
  • Amphibia:
    • Anne looks exactly like her mother, right down to having similar hair styles, but has her father's darker hair and skin color.
    • Sprig is a 10 year-old version of his ancestor, Leif.
    • King Andrias strongly resembles his father, Aldrich.
    • In "Marcys Journal A Guide To Amphibia", it is revealed that both Sasha and Marcy are near identical to their mothers, only with a few differences; Sasha's hair color is a darker shade of blonde and inherited her father's blue eyes (when her irises are shown) and mole, while Marcy just has shorter hair than her mom.
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender:
    • Zuko would look exactly like a younger version of his father... if it weren't for his trademark scar, given to him by said father. Word of God is that Ozai was pretty much designed to look like an older Zuko, which explains why he's way prettier than a lot of people expected such a despicable Big Bad to look.
    • Ozai strongly resembles his father, Fire Lord Azulon.
    • Also, when Azula is shown not wearing makeup, she bears a pretty strong resemblance to her mother, Princess Ursa. Ursa herself looks very much like her grandmother (the wife of Avatar Roku, who appears in a flashback in one episode).
    • Hakoda's design is also very strongly based on that of his son, Sokka. It's also shown that the resemblance is more than physical — Hakoda is also The Strategist, shown to also be a capable inventor, and even has the same sense of humor as Sokka (to Bato's chagrin). Made more explicit in The Legend Of Korra, where a flashback to Sokka's adulthood showed him looking just like his father with a different hairstyle.
  • The Legend of Korra:
    • Katara as an old woman is pretty much a carbon copy of her grandmother Kanna, except she still maintains her trademark hair loopies.
    • Old Zuko is a blend of his great-grandfathers Roku and Sozin. His hairstyle and overall look are mostly based off of Roku, but his beard takes after Sozin's.
    • Zuko’s daughter Izumi looks a lot like him minus the shape of her face, that comes from her (probable) mother, Mai. Word of God confirms that Izumi has a daughter who they couldn’t work into the show itself but they say she looks a lot like Izumi minus the glasses.
    • Judging from a picture of the Sato family, Asami looks almost exactly like her mother with slightly narrower features.
    • Jinora looks almost identical to her grandfather Aang when he was younger, only with brown eyes instead of gray. This is best shown when she has to shave her head to get her airbending master tattoos.
  • In Back to the Future one of Doc Brown's kids — specifically, Verne — was able to pass himself off as Doc Brown's younger self during a trip to the past (his eye color even changes from his usual blue to Doc's brown). Ironically, a different, earlier episode had his sibling Jules claiming Verne had to be adopted because he bore no resemblance to the rest of the family (Jules, it should be noted, sort of resembles his mother Clara).
  • The Future of Ben 10 had the main character fully grown in a now futurized Earth having a son named Kenny, who looks like a carbon copy of his 10 year old self right down to the voice, albeit with darker skin and hair that comes from his Navajo mother. In addition, Ben's Evil Counterpart Kevin also has a son named Devlin Levin who looks like his younger self before the mutations with no mention as to whom he conceived him from.
  • Big City Greens:
    • Cricket and Tilly take on the same skin tone as their parents, though Cricket goes for the more golden-yellow like Bill's while Tilly's is more paler, similar to Nancy. They both sport a Childish Tooth Gap like their parents did in their youth, and Cricket's hair is the same color as Bill's. Tilly, however, has black hair instead of her mother's raspberry redhead.
    • In Gloria's case, she got her blue hair from her father and her oval eye shape from her mother, and her purple skin tone is her father's blue skin and her mother's pink skin mixed together.
    • For the Remingtons, Remy got his medium brown skin from his mother and his wide cheekbones from his father, and their pink and blue hair mixed together to make his purple hair.
  • Bob's Burgers: In "Broadcast Wagstaff School News", the family finds a picture of Bob when he was Gene's age, and they resemble each other so much that Louise figures she could make Gene into a mini-Bob by giving him a bald spot, a mustache, and arm hair. It's pretty uncanny, much to Bob's annoyance.
    • Aside from Gene, Louise looks very much like a smaller version of her mother as well sans glasses. And the few times Tina has been shown without her glasses has her eyes and facial features be resemblant of Bob.
  • Bubble Guppies: Although we never get see any of the titular Guppies' parents, Season 4's Bubble Baby! gave Molly a baby sister named Mia, who is basically a baby version of her big sister.
  • Casey Bats Again: All nine of the Caseyettes look identical to their mother—the only real physical differences between the sisters (who all look identical to each other) are the way they style their hair and their heights, which also seems to indicate their ages (meaning: Patsy, the oldest, is also the tallest while Colleen, the youngest, is the smallest and shortest).
  • CatDog:
    • In "Rich Shriek, Poor Shriek", Shriek of the Greasers is shown to look a lot like her parents.
    • Lola Caricola's mother resembles a heavyset version of her daughter.
    • In the episode "Back to School", Cat has to go back to school for one day because he never graduated. He and Dog end up encountering Cliff's nephew, Shriek's niece, and Lube's nephew. They all look like their uncles and aunt, though Lube's nephew is humorously far more intelligent than his uncle. We also see Cliff's dad in flashback, and he looks just like his son.
    • It is shown in "The Great Parent Mystery" that just about everyone in Nearburg looks like their parents. Dog also imagines his and Cat's parents as being a CatDog creature like themselves (with the dog being the dad and the cat being the mom) until they are reunited with their adoptive parents and accept being content with meeting them again rather than their natural parents.
  • On ChalkZone, Penny bears a strong resemblance to her mom (shown especially in "School of Destruction" where we see her mom with her hair down), Reggie resembles his dad, and a blink-and-you-miss-it shot in "Howdy Rudy" suggests that Michelle resembles her mom.
  • Codename: Kids Next Door:
    • All of the members of the Gilligan family are chubby, wear blue clothes and some form of eye-obscuring eyewear (that are animated as if they were their actual eyes).
    • Numbuh 4's dad Sydney has blonde hair and a bowlcut just like his sons.
  • Courage the Cowardly Dog:
    • In "The Sand Whale Strikes", we see a photo of Eustace's father. Turns out he's Eustace with a snowy-white beard, however Eustace sees no resemblance. Eustace's mother also looks almost exactly like him, including being bald as well, though she wears a wig and is much shorter. His late brother Horst also has similar facial features.
    • "Remembrance of Courage Past" reveals that Courage's parents look just like their son, except Courage's dad has bushy eyebrows and a mustache, while Courage's mom has eyelashes and lipstick and wears a hat and shoes.
  • DC Animated Universe:
    • In The New Batman Adventures, Tim Drake looks exactly like the mugshot of his dad Steven "Shifty" Drake.
    • Superman as an adult in Superman: The Animated Series looks exactly like his father Jor-El did when Krypton was destroyed. When an aged Superman appeared in Batman Beyond, they even gave Superman Jor-El's voice actor to take it from simple resemblance to carbon copy.
    • Batman Beyond has two of these: first, Terry's younger brother Matt looks almost identical to him, something the show's creators actually joke about on the DVD commentary (the lack of resemblance to either of their parents is best not delved into here, considering the later explanation is supposedly something of an Ascended Fanon Retcon). Second, when Big Bad Derek Powers' adult son appears at the end of the first season, the facial resemblance is strong enough it's pretty clear that they're family even before dialogue actually states it.
  • Daria:
    • Averted to an extent. Quinn and Daria have appearances unique from each other and their parents, though Daria looks uncannily like a younger version of her aunt Amy. At most, Quinn inherited Helen's auburn hair, and Daria, Jake's brown hair.
    • Played straight with Sandi and her mother Linda. Not only do they look pretty much identical, they also have extremely similar voices, and the same petty, bitchy attitude... as well as parallel rivalries (Quinn vs Sandi | Helen vs. Linda).
    • Zig-zagged with the Lane family. The three daughters have similar faces to Amanda (Jane's being the closest), but all have completely different hair colors and styles. Furthermore, Trent and Wind both have their dad's face, more or less, but Wind has blonde hair instead of black, while Trent lacks the blue eyes everyone else in the family has.
  • In The Deputy Dawg Show episode "Deputy Dawg's Nephew", Deputy Dawg is visited by his nephew Elmer while taste-testing a julep brewed by Muskie Muskrat and Ty Coon. Deputy Dawg sends his nephew to ask Muskie and Ty to make more of their julep, but the two instead end up thinking that their julep caused Deputy Dawg to shrink because Elmer looks like a miniature version of his uncle.
  • Dexter's Laboratory:
    • Dexter and Dee Dee are an interesting variant where they each visibly inherited different traits from their parents. Dee Dee has blonde hair like their father while Dexter inherited his mother's red hair and his father's expressive Nerd Glasses. One scene took things a step further and showed where they each inherited their personalities from. The mother was shown tirelessly whipping up recipes in the kitchen with meticulous scientific precision before the father burst into the scene and started wrecking things like an idiot.
    • Dexter's grandfather is another, less frequently seen character, who is nearly identical to Dexter in every way, except being old and pruning. In fact, Dexter's grandfather is exactly the same as old Dexter from previous episodes. Lampshaded: While Dexter was turned old in one episode, everyone kept calling and mistaking him for "grandpa" for obvious reasons.
  • The Fairly OddParents!:
    • Timmy Turner himself took both his skin and eye colors from both his parents; for his hairdo, he got the style from his father and the color from his mother. He also looks like how his dad looked in his youth.
    • Chet Ubetcha has a mother and daughter who look a lot like him, even sharing his Lantern Jaw of Justice.
    • As seen in "This Is Your Wish", Cosmo looks almost exactly like his dad.
    • With Vicky's family, Vicky strongly resembles her dad, while Tootie resembles her mom.
    • In Channel Chasers, Timmy's future kids look exactly like him with a few differences. Tommy looks like Timmy in his youth but has Trixie and Tootie's black hair, while Tammy is a female Timmy with Tootie's glasses and Trixie's long hair and hairband.
  • Family Guy:
    • In the episode where Peter Griffin accidentally kills his (fake) father and discovers that his real father is from Ireland, it's revealed that Peter looks exactly like his real father right down to the fact that they both wear a small pair of glasses that are the same width as their eyes, a white shirt, and green pants, are both fat and are idiots. But Peter lacks his father's beard.
    • Meg looks very similar to Lois (and is the only one of the three kids to look anything like their parents), yet gets crap from just about everyone over her supposed ugliness.
    • Mort, Muriel, and Neil Goldman all resemble one another.
  • Chum Chum from Fanboy and Chum Chum has a female cousin Muck Muck, who looks exactly like him, except with pigtails, eyelashes and a different outfit.
  • In the Futurama episode "Luck of the Fryish", Fry believes that his brother Yancy, who had always acted out in jealousy of Fry when they were younger, had stolen Fry's lucky seven-leaf clover and his name after watching a documentary about "Philip's" (who looks exactly like Yancy) extremely blessed life. Fry learns the truth when he visits Philip's grave and reads the epitaph: "Here Lies Philip J. Fry, named for his uncle, to carry on his spirit." Yancy had named his son after his missing brother and gave him the clover.
  • The Gadget Boy's Adventures in History episode "Back to the Vulture" revealed that both of Myron Dabble's parents bore a considerable resemblance to their son.
  • Gargoyles:
    • Angela is a near-dead ringer to Demona in terms of facial structure and hairstyle, and she's a spot-on match to Goliath's skin and hair color, and Elisa notices it immediately.
    • The Maza siblings and Alex Xanatos. Elisa most closely resembles their dad Peter, Derek looks most like mom Diane, and Beth resembles both of their parents. Adult Alex looks like David with Fox's bright red hair. (Of course, he was All Just a Dream anyway, so who knows if he will actually look like that?)
    • In the graphic novels, Nashville inherits his pale skin and raven-black hair from his mother, Katana, while his horns, wild hairstyle, and pronounced beak come from dad Brooklyn.
    • Likewise, Bronx has Chomp's head shape and Chaw's blue skin, implying that the latter two are his parents.
  • Aside from some differences in their faces and head shapes, Max and PJ on Goof Troop look like miniature versions of their fathers. Their personalities are completely different, however. This was lampshaded many times in "Meanwhile, Back at the Ramp," much to Max's chagrin.
  • Billy from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy looks an awful lot like his dad — big nose, beady black eyes and all. He gets his hair color from his mother, however.
  • I ♡ Arlo:
    • Arlo seems to share several features with his father Ansel. In addition to both being half animal, both share the same oval eyes, scraggly hairdos, x-detailed earlobes, chin hair, and pointy fingertips, while he got his puffy cheeks with blush and freckles from his childhood. Arlo's pale red hair was inherited from his then unknown Missing Mom.
    • For Teeny Tiny Tony, he is half rat like his parents; however, he looks exactly like his mother, while his curled hair, mustache and pointed ears came from his father.
  • Hey Arnold!:
    • Arnold has his mother's head shape and facial features, but his father's blonde hair.
    • The Pataki sisters. Helga, unfortunately gets her looks from Bob (Big Ol' Unibrow, big nose and billy goat shaped ears), while Olga looks like a younger, prettier version of Miriam. They both get their blond hair from Miriam though.
    • Harold's mother basically looks like a larger version of Harold in drag.
    • Rhonda looks nearly identical to her mother.
    • Eugene, Sid, and Stinky all look like their fathers, having the same head and nose shapes.
  • Jem:
    • Jerrica looks just like her mom and even ended up a singer like her.
    • Invoked in "The Fan". The Misfits try to get Jem to say her real name by unintentionally gaslighting her. They have no knowledge pink isn't her natural hair color so, while showing her phony home videos of herself as a child, they hire an actress who looks exactly like Jem to play her mother. This only makes Jerrica more confused and distraught.
    • Ba Nee looks like a child version of her mother.
    • Used as a plot point. Danse resemblances her deceased mom that she never met quite a lot.
    • Surprisingly averted with most families. If anything most people don't resemblance their family enough. Kimber has a bright red hair tone neither her sister nor parents have, Video and Clash are cousins who look nothing alike (which is realistic but in fiction cousins tend to have passing resemblances), and Raya is the only member of her family with pink hair.
  • As revealed in the show Jungle Cubs, Hathi Jr., the baby elephant from Disney's The Jungle Book, actually looks exactly like his mother Winifred when she was still a calf. Colonel Hathi (Hathi Jr.'s father) from the same series for some reason looks exactly like his uncle-in-law (Winifred's uncle).
  • Kaeloo:
    • Exaggerated with Kaeloo's family, where all the members look just like each other and wear accessories so people can tell them apart.
    • Stumpy's sisters look nearly identical, which is justified since they're implied to be septuplets; however, they bear a strong resemblance to Stumpy himself as well, to the extent that Kaeloo is able to identify Nombril as Stumpy's sister just by looking at her.
  • Kim Possible:
    • The titular character herself is the spitting image of her mother, Anne, but with longer hair and has her paternal grandmother's green eyes.
    • Kim's younger twin brothers, Tim and Jim, look a lot like their father, James, with their mother's blue eyes. "A Stitch in Time" demonstrates this the most when they were seen as adults.
    • Ron is practically a male version of his mother, only with lighter blonde hair.
    • If it weren't for the different hair/skin/eye colors and hair styles, one could tell that Bonnie and her older sisters look very similar.
    • Steve Barkin's father, Franklin, turns out to have the exact same look and personality as his son.
  • On King of the Hill, it's a running gag that Dale's son Joseph looks nothing like him and instead looks exactly like his actual father, John Redcorn, but somehow Dale is too clueless to figure this out.
  • Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts: Other then her purple skin and pink hair, Kipo looks almost identical to her mother Song Oak.
  • The Loud House:
    • Out of all 11 kids most take after one parent in their looks with two exceptions. The blondes (Lori, Leni, Lana, Lola and Lily) take after their mother, while the brunettes (Luna, Luan, Lynn and Lisa) take after their father. The exceptions being Lincoln who strongly resembles his grandfather down to the white hair, and Lucy looks like an exact copy of her great grandmother when in her youth.
    • In a way, Lana and Lola (twins) look like their brother with long yellow hair and eyelashes. Lola moreso for sharing the same cowlick.
    • The Louds' paternal grandfather, Leonard, is basically an older, bearded version of Lynn Sr.
    • Ronnie Anne looks more or less like a younger version of her mother Maria, while Bobby is dead on just a less hairier version of his father Arturo.
    • Lincoln's friend Rusty Spokes is a carbon copy of his father Rodney, while his younger brother Rocky looks like a shorter version of him. Same for his other friend Zach.
  • Miraculous Ladybug:
    • Marinette and her mother Sabine have similar facial features, the same colored hair and are around the same height, though Sabine has lighter eyes.
    • In an older concept for the show, Chat Noir was going to be called Félix and be a much less sympathetic character (though presumably he'd take a level in kindness as the show went on.) He looked pretty much the same. So when Félix shows up as Adrien's cousin looking much like the original concept art and promotional video (and therefore much like Adrien) he can actually impersonate him. The resemblance gets an explanation, though: their mothers are twins. (We don't see Félix's dad, though.)
  • Molly of Denali: When we see a flashback of Layla as a kid, we find that she looked a lot like Molly did, except with longer hair in a ponytail.
  • Motorcity: Mike Chilton's sister Capri looks alot like him, you would think they're Half-Identical Twins if she were not two years older.
  • The original My Little Pony "Baby" characters looked and were named exactly like their mothers, except for less markings on their hide. (For example, Baby North Star's compass mark is less complex than North Star's, Baby Surprise has one balloon instead of Surprise's four, etc. note  The comics, in their usual answer-just-raises-more-questions fashion, made the baby ponies the result of a magic mirror one can wish on to get a clone baby. (Now, that doesn't explain Baby Lickety-Split having an identical cousin.)
    • The highly standardized character designs in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic make this common. Twilight Sparkle's mother is a pallet swap of her daughter. In a slightly less exceptional case, Pumpkin Cake has the exact same colors as her father Carrot Cake. "Magic Duel" shows that, with a little dye and mane-styling, Sweetie Belle looks almost exactly like her big sister Rarity back when she was Sweetie's age as they have the same coat color and are both unicorns. The Flim-Flam brothers are basically identical except for their marks and Flam's moustache.
      • This can make the exceptions stick out like a sore thumb. For instance, Pinkie's sisters all look very similar to one another, but Pinkie herself nothing like any of her immediate family members (which probably foreshadows her discovering of her cutie mark talent). Though when Pinkie's mane goes flat, she's a dead ringer for her twin sister Marble, only pink instead of gray.
      • In the case of Rainbow Dash, her mother Windy Whistles is basically her daughter, minus the rainbow mane her father Bow Hothoof has.
      • Fluttershy's mother also counts, one difference being her hair is dark red and she wears it in a different style than her pink-haired daughter. Her brother Zephyr Breeze takes after their father, with his mane coming from their mother's coat color.
      • For the Apple Family, Big Mac looks exactly like his father Bright Mac, but the colorizations of such are given to Apple Bloom. Applejack also has the same green eyes as Bright Mac, whereas her coat and mane are a reverse of her mother Pear Butter (aka Buttercup), complete with the same birdcatcher spots. Apple Bloom is the only one who didn't inherit either parent's green eye color, instead going for gold eyes like Granny Smith.
      • Spitfire is basically a copy of her mother Stormy Flare, with one difference: Stormy doesn't have the copypasted mare design, so her face is notably less round than her daughter's.
      • Shining Armor and Cadance's daughter Flurry Heart looks almost the same as Cadance, complete with natural-born alicorn wings, but with Shining's Innocent Blue Eyes.
      • Trixie's father Jack Pot looks like a male version of her, and even shares a similar stage magician persona as his daughter.
      • In the Grand Finale, Pinkie and Cheese Sandwich give birth to a foal named Lil' Cheese who looks exactly like Pinkie in her youth, but the coat and eye colors come from Cheese. And despite appearing as a filly, Lil' Cheese was confirmed to be a colt in the script.
  • LEGO Ninjago: (spoilers in links) Lloyd has traits from both his father Garmadon and uncle Wu. As seen in "Tick Tock", young Garmadon and Wu had a bowl cut hairstyle, blond for Wu and brown for Garmadon. Young Lloyd uses this hair piece in blond like Wu, while he has Garmadon's face design. When he becomes older, he has a blond version of teenaged Garmadon's hair as seen in "Battle Between Brothers", which was originally used on Star Wars: The Clone Wars's Anakin minifigure.
  • The Owl House:
    • Amity and her older twin siblings, Edric and Emira, have the same facial features, pale skin, golden eyes, and green hair (although Amity's is actually dyed, as her mother, Odalia force her to do so because of the fact that she wants her kids to be color coordinated.)
      • Flashbacks in "Young Blood, Old Souls" and "Them's the Breaks, Kid" reveal that Amity is the spitting image of Odalia, just with her father, Alador's, brown hair and gold eyes. The Distant Finale show that she has even gained her mother's wide hips.
      • "Reaching Out" also shows that Edric looks a lot like Alador once his Glamour is removed.
    • Luz is practically a younger version of her mother Camila (to the point that someone actually asks who "tall Luz" is when seeing Camila for the first time), though her skin tone is closer to her late father's.
    • Willow has somewhat of a Patchwork Kids appearance, having the facial shape of one of her dads, and the skin tone and hair color of the other.
    • Gus clearly gets his looks from his father, Perry.
    • Edalyn and Lilith Clawthorne share extremely similar heights, builds, and facial structures (although the latter is partially masked by their very different hairstyles).
      • Their mother, Gwendolyn, resembles Eda, only at a shorter height and has green eyes instead of gold.
    • Even though he's a clone, Hunter/The Golden Guard looks just like Belos/Philip Wittebane's older brother, Caleb. Even Belos himself commented on this. The only differences are Hunter's pointed ears and eye colors.
  • In Phantom Investigators, Daemona is shown to look almost exactly like her paternal grandmother when she was around her age. To a lesser extent, she also strongly resembles her mom, both having red hair and blue eyes. They even wear almost the same exact color scheme.
  • Phineas and Ferb:
    • Stacy's female relatives in Tokyo all look like clones of her. Her little sister, Ginger, also looks almost like her.
    • Additionally, every male on Ferb's side of the family, parents, grandparents, uncles, cousins, etc., all have the same tall, thin face and squarish nose. Ferb and his Grandfather are pretty near Identical.
  • Penny Proud from The Proud Family has been told that she resembles her mother Trudy with her looks.
    • The twins Bebe and Cece look like baby versions of their parents.
  • Ready Jet Go!: Jet strongly resembles both of his parents, due to his spiky, side-swept red hair and blue space-suit. Taking this trope further, Carrot and Celery are Lookalik Lovers.
  • In Recess, T.J. looks like his mom, Gus resembles a younger less rugged version of his dad and he also has a presumably great grandfather who looked just like him as a kid, Vince looks like his dad, Mikey looks like his mom, and Gretchen resembles both of her parents.
  • Regular Show:
    • Rigby's brother Don has the same head/facial design as him, but has the body the size of a human.
    • Margaret's mother is revealed to look like her, also being a red robin. Oh so averted with her father though.
  • In Rick and Morty, Summer is basically her father, Jerry, with a feminine body and a red ponytail.
  • Rugrats: Among the main cast, Tommy Pickles resembles a combination of his father Stu and his maternal grandfather Boris, while Grandpa Lou, in turn, used to resemble his older son Drew and now resembles his younger son Stu. Charles Finster is an older version of Chuckie with a mustache, and Angelica Pickles resembles her mother Charlotte. In the Kwanzaa special, an old photo of Lucy Carmichael is shown and she looks like the splitting image of Susie. In fact, Susie initially believes it's a photo of her until it's pointed out that it's actually her mother.
  • Many of the children in Rupert, an Animated Adaptation of the British comic strip Rupert Bear, bear a strong resemblance to their parents. This is lampshaded in "Rupert in Timeland", where Rupert finds himself becoming an adult because of a time-travel mishap and mistakes his own reflection for his father.
  • Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated:
    • Played straight for the Gang's families (bar Fred and Mayor Jones). Shaggy got his build and head shape from his mother, and his hair and facial features from his father. Daphne and her sisters are a Generation Xerox of their mother. Velma's resemblance to her parents is less copy-and-paste, but it's there. One episode has Velma discover that her mother looked like her when she was a teenager.
    • Inverted in that the lean black-haired Mayor Fred Jones Sr. and his blonde big-built son Fred Jones Jr. barely share any resemblance between each other. Later subverted in that a photo of Fred's absent mother shows that Fred got his looks from her, with the implication that his father sees her when he looks at his son. And then averted when it turns out the woman in that photo is not Fred's mother (in fact, it's ripped from a magazine), and Mayor Jones is his kidnapper (and for the record, he's an Ambiguously Gay asexual). Mayor Jones deliberately chose that photo to trick people into believing that he was once married and had Fred with her.
    • On the other hand, you can definitely see the resemblance between Fred and his real parents, Brad and Judy.
  • The Secret Saturdays: According to the flashback in "Van Rook's Apprentice", Drew and Doyle look almost exactly the same as, respectively, their mother and father. Drew comments on Doyle's resemblance to her father the first time she sees his unmasked face.
  • In Sheep in the Big City, General Specific has a cousin named General Lee Outrageous, who resembles him except for having a golden uniform with more ornaments on it, a golden tooth, teal shades, and teal hair worn in a ponytail.
  • The Simpsons:
    • When Milhouse's parents, Kirk and Luann, were introduced, they both looked very much like him, meaning that they also rather improbably looked very much like each other. This has led to some pretty uncomfortable questions from fans (and Bart, in one episode.). Considering that the "Lemon of Troy" episode revealed that Mrs. Van Houten is from Shelbyville, and that the Springfield/Shelbyville rivalry came about because Shelbyvillains wanted to marry their cousins... yeah. It sinks into Uncanny Family Resemblance territory with the introduction of at least one of Milhouse's grandfathers and his two grandmothers in different episodes, who of course look all the same. By the way, one of the grannies is Italian and the other (most likely) Dutch. Milhouse himself lampshades his parents' resemblance in a later episode where he casually admits that he thinks they might be brother and sister and a later episode has him state that they're cousins. Milhouse's resemblance to his dad in particular is so strong that in the episode "Hardly Kirking," he—by shaving his head, wearing one of Kirk's suits with a pair of stilts, and deepening his voice by tightening his tie—is able to fool the entire neighborhood, including Luann, into thinking he's Kirk.
    • The episode "The Blue and the Gray" reveals Lenny and Carl date each other's sisters every Valentine's Day. Each pair of siblings, of course, look alike.
    • Grandma Bouvier is basically an aged-up version of Marge, right down (up?) to the improbably high beehive.
    • Abe Simpson looked very similar to his son Homer in his youth, though he lost his hair later in life. In "The Old Man And The C-Student", Bart used a vacuum on Abe's face and was startled to see that Abe looked exactly like Homer without his wrinkles.
    • Both of Homer's half-siblings look very much like him and Abe. Herb is a slightly older version of what Homer would look like if he had never lost his hair or gained so much weight, while their half-sister Abby is what Homer would look like if he got rid of the five-o-clock shadow and dressed in drag.
    • Homer also looks quite a bit like his mother, Mona — they have very similar head/face shapes.
    • "Lisa The Simpson" showed the extended Simpson family; all the men looked like variations on Homer and all the women looked like older versions of Lisa.
    • Some future episodes show Bart and Lisa's future children, notably "Holidays of Future Passed" — Bart's two sons look like shorter versions of his ten-year-old self, and Lisa's daughter Zia looks like a teenaged Lisa with a lock of blue hair (Milhouse is her father). Maggie's future daughter looks exactly like baby Maggie.
    • In other future episodes, Bart is shown developing Homer's gut, hair loss and five o'clock shadow, and Maggie as a pre-adolescent is identical to Lisa.
    • Lisa and Maggie look a lot alike even in the show's present: in one episode Lisa regrets trading her pearl necklace for Olympic collector pins because "without my pearls, I'm just a big Maggie!"
    • In "Lisa the Beauty Queen" before settling on a variation of her usual hairstyle, Lisa tries out, among other hairstyles, Marge's signature Beehive Hairdo. The resemblance to her own mother is uncanny. Similarly, In "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious", when Marge imagines herself going bald, her face looks just like Lisa's.
    • In an episode we see that Cookie Kwan has a cousin, called Nookie, physically identical to her.
    • Comic Book Guy has a cousin known as Comic Book Gay who is virtually identical to him in appearance, personality and voice; except for having a full walrus moustache instead of Comic Book Guys's stubble.
  • Les Sisters: The show averts the Only Six Faces trope, but the titular sisters, Wendy and Marine, look exactly the same except for their height and hair color. In fact, in-universe, Marine is described as looking like a short, blonde Wendy.
  • Sofia the First:
    • Princess Hildegard bears a resemblance to her older sister.
    • Princess Amber looks like a younger version of her birth mother, Queen Lorelei.
    • Word of God says that Sofia looks like a little girl version of her birth father, who never made an onscreen appearance.
    • Downplayed with Prince Hugo, who looks like a younger version of his older brother, Axel, with dark brown hair and big eyes. Axel does appear to have the same eye shape as their father.
  • Star vs. the Forces of Evil:
    • Marco's dad Rafael looks like an older and more muscular version of him. Marco's little sister Mariposa looks like both of them, especially her teenage appearance from "Gone Baby Gone".
    • Star's mom Moon looked almost exactly like her when she was Star's age. The only differences are that Star has her father's hair and eye color, and her Blush Stickers are pink hearts instead of purple diamonds.
  • Steven Universe goes into great detail with its character design (completely averting Only Six Faces). Family members always look alike, without actually invoking Identical Grandson, leading to fans figuring out the relationships between a group of characters introduced individually (half-brothers Sour Cream and Onion, respective fathers Marty and Yellowtail, and mother Vidalia) before it was established in the show. Ironically, the exception to this is Steven's resemblance to his father, Greg. A Whole Episode Flashback shows that when he was younger, Greg looked exactly like Steven except taller, thinner, and with a different haircut.
  • Storm Hawks: Aerrow looks exactly like a young Lightning Strike (his ancestor and all but stated to be his father), but with a different hairstyle and different eye colors (Aerrow's eyes are green, Lightning Strike's are brown). These two are pretty much the only differences.
  • During a flashback in Sym-Bionic Titan, we see Ilana standing next to a woman who looks a lot like her, assumed to be her mother, although this has not been confirmed.
  • In Total Drama Owen and Duncan strongly resemble younger versions of their fathers, Gwen looks like a gothic version of her mother, and Heather is almost identical to her mother.
  • In Totally Spies!, the girls' mothers looked more and more like them with each appearance.
  • Voltron: Legendary Defender:
    • Pidge's family all look very similar. This comes to be very important thanks to The Reveal: "Pidge Gunderson" is actually Katie, the Holt family's daughter. She already resembled her older brother Matt very strongly, so by getting her hair cut and wearing glasses she easily managed to pose as a boy.
    • A Whole Episode Flashback shows that Allura's mother looked just like her, but with a slightly different hairstyle.
    • When Keith's mother shows up, one can very easily see where Keith got his looks from. On the other hand, in terms of species he much more resembles his human father.
  • Subversion: In the Wacky Races episode "Mish Mash Missouri Dash," Dick Dastardly escapes the wrath of a hillbilly by dolling himself up to pass as the guy's cousin. It turns out that he's Lazy Luke's cousin, and Luke sees through Dastardly's charade.
