Basic Trope: A male character is raped by a female character, but is ignored or not taken seriously while male-on-female rape is viewed as “unacceptable” in the same work.
- Straight: Betty rapes Alex and it gets Played for Laughs and/or Fanservice.
- Exaggerated:
- Betty keeps Alex locked up in a basement, raping him daily in the most horrific manners possible, with little food or water. When Alex manages to free himself from his bounds, he tries contacting his friend, who is ecstatic to hear that Alex is finally getting laid.
- Betty is a thirty-two year old babysitter who (often violently) rapes Alex from the time he is eight to the time he is twelve. Alex tries to tell his parents, but they blame him for having sex too early. Betty gets away scot-free, and Alex's parents refuse to press charges.
- Betty rapes Alex, and Alex is arrested: rape, after all, is nonconsensual sexual contact, and only men can rape, so that's obviously what happened.
- Downplayed:
- Betty sexually harasses Alex and gets away with it.
- Stalking Is Funny if It Is Female After Male
- Betty's rape of Alex is a source of Black Comedy.
- Betty comes onto Alex a little bit strongly, only to stop when he demands her to.
- Questionable Consent.
- Betty is sexually harassing her subordinate, but Alex reports her to HR.
- Betty tries to rape Alex and it's Played for Laughs, but this does not end well for her.
- Betty rapes Alex and it's portrayed as a bad thing, but because she is a Gonk-y Predatory Prostitute Abhorrent Admirer, and she is received slightly lighter punishments than average male rapists, however, when the Ms. Fanservice Bitch in Sheep's Clothing Danielle rapes Alex, it still gets Played for Laughs and/or Fanservice.
- Betty's rape of Alex is treated as intense and disturbing, yet the camera ogles her the whole time.
- Betty rapes Alex and it's portrayed as a serious crime, but Alex is heinously shamed by the society for letting himself being raped.
- Betty receives short-sentence from raping Alex, who is blamed for letting himself being raped, but yet the society still labels Betty as Defiled Forever.
- While men who were raped by women aren't taken that seriously, women who were raped by men still receive Victim-Blaming reactions normally despite receive justices.
- Justified:
- Alex was a Serial Rapist, so the characters see his rape as Laser-Guided Karma.
- It's a common (false) assumption in the setting that A Man Is Always Eager (thus wouldn't not consent to sex), Women Are Delicate + All Women Are Prudes (and thus couldn't or wouldn't overpower a man), "rape" is legally defined as penetration without consent (which women can't do) etc.
- People don't seriously deal with men's issues due to Men Are the Expendable Gender, bonus points if All Women Are Lustful in the setting.
- Neither Betty or Alex had a choice in the matter.
- Betty and Alex are forced to have sex, or they would die.
- Betty cannot understand what she did was wrong, because she is a tentacled beast with no way of understanding or processing consent.
- Betty was sexually assaulted as a kid and thinks it is a normal way of showing affection.
- Alex had raped Betty in the past, so she decides to give him the same pain she felt.
- Alex was an asshole to Betty, so she raped him.
- There's no way that Alex wants to have sex with Betty because he is actually gay, asexual, or homoromantic asexual, so Betty tries to "fix" him and Heteronormative society thinks he deserves it.
- Alex is an extreme misogynist, and being raped by Betty is supposed to be Laser-Guided Karma for hating women.
- Inverted:
- Alex rapes Betty and gets away with it, and is ignored, or not taken seriously. Meanwhile, if Betty rapes Alex, it's portrayed as a bad thing due to the belief that women shouldn't actively be interested in sex.
- Alex rapes Carlos, and everyone finds it romantic.
- Betty rapes Alice, and everyone finds it hot.
- Subverted:
- Betty rapes Alex and gets away with it, but it's portrayed as a bad thing.
- Betty rapes Alex, and is reamed for it, and thrown into prison.
- Betty was about to rape Alex, but decided against it.
- Alternatively: Alex decides to rape Betty in return. He also gets away with it.
- Alex reports he is raped by Betty, and he is arrested, because Betty doesn't actually rape him.
- Betty rapes Alex and gets away with it, not because she is a woman, but because she is rich and powerful enough to manage herself get away from any crimes, just like her relatives of both genders.
- Double Subverted:
- ...which wasn't what the author wanted to convey.
- ...but the sentence is short and/or Betty bribes the polices to give a lighter punishment, and nobody remembers the incident afterwards.
- Betty waits for another time Alex is vulnerable.
- Alex may have gotten away with his revenge but this is portrayed as a bad thing by the narrative via a Revenge Is Not Justice aesop while ignoring the fact that Betty also committed the heinous act of rape.
- ...but the actual victim is Carlos, and nobody care about this incident furthermore.
- Then Danielle, who is much poorer than Betty, rapes Alex and also gets away with it.
- Parodied: Betty rapes Alex, and is arrested. However, Betty is a Straw Feminist who manages to get Alex convicted for raping her because she tied him up and raped him without saying a word, meaning Alex did not get her verbal consent, so therefore any jury that would convict her is full of loathsome misogynists supporting rape culture. She also gets the officer that arrested her fired, even though the officer is a woman ("Internalized misogyny!").
- Zig-Zagged: Betty rapes Alex. The police come by and arrest Betty...for throwing the used condom on the ground instead of throwing it in the trash. Then, the police discover that she raped Alex, and that turns her littering offense into a much more serious one. While carting Betty away, the officers laugh at Alex for letting himself get raped.
- Averted:
- Betty rapes Alex, is brought to court, found guilty, and gets a punishment just as bad as if the genders were reversed.
- Nobody gets raped, or even No Hugging, No Kissing.
- The Crapsack World allows everyone to get away with rape, regardless of both their and their victims’ gender.
- Enforced:
- "Betty didn't rape Alex. Women just can't rape men, do you hear me? They just can't! It doesn't happen, never did, never will!!"
- The writer thinks All Men Are Perverts, or is somewhat sexist her/himself.
- Lampshaded:
- "Why would I tell the police? At best, they won't believe me and at worst they'll laugh at me."
- "Well, she is a woman, she can't help it!"
- Invoked: A Man Is Always Eager.
- Exploited:Betty: "If a man refuses to take me, all I have to do is rape him. No court would convict me, since no one would believe any normal straight man could say no to a babe like me!!"
- The Sour Prude Dogged Nice Girl persuades and educates Alex why Sex Is Evil, especially for women.
- Defied:
- "Rape is rape, regardless of gender," said Carlos who saw the scene and reported it to the police.
- Or rather the society Alex lives in treats rape as a large penalty crime no matter who commited it. His friend Carlos recognizes his friend got raped by Betty, so he reports it to the police, after the court found her guilty, society severely Slut-Shaming Betty due to the crime that she committed and now she is living a life sentence in the maximum security of mixed-gendered prison.
- Discussed:
- "Why are you making such a big deal out of this, Alex? Betty is SMOKING HOT!"
- "Quit making up nonsense, Alex. I mean, a woman who actually wants to have sex? That's ridiculous!"
- Conversed: "Betty HURT Alex. They're letting her walk free, just because he got an erection during the rape?"
- Deconstructed:
- Betty rapes Alex and gets away with it. This drives Alex into a deep depression, eventually ending with him committing suicide from the sheer impact of the trauma, and how not a single person took a glance at the situation.
- Conversely, Alex goes insane because of the rape, prompting him to break into Betty's home and murder her. When the cops come to arrest him, Alex correctly fears they will not listen to why he felt there was no other way or end the abuse. After the negotiator tells him that Betty didn't do anything wrong, Alex snaps and initiates a shootout. He and several police officers are killed.
- Carlos recognizes that Alex has been raped, instead of reporting Betty to the cops, he gives her a long brutal ego-breaking speech about how she is a horrible person and that she doesn't deserve the crime she's gotten away with. Betty being the shameless bitch she is, laughs in Carlos' face and casually kills him, but not before verbally demonstrating to him just how delusional moralists like him are in the face of violence, which is why they always lose.
- Reconstructed:
- Alex eventually manages to frame Betty by getting track of other men she date-raped and by getting a sympathetic officer to tail Betty and have them witness what she does to get men to sleep with her.
- Since Alex knows that nobody will listen to him, he decides to take matters into his own hands and devises a plan to eliminate Betty physically by having her have an accident. His plan succeeds and Alex is now free to move on to a whole new life.
- Betty ends up being reported for her murder of Carlos and gets arrested for that crime instead. She may be able to get away with rape, but murder is a different story.
- In her obsession with raping the men who refuse her, the Laser-Guided Karma causes Betty to be pregnant without knowing the child's father and/or becomes HIV positive from it. But getting rid of the child either through abortion or adoption will get her noticed one way or another, so what can she do now? And what will happen to a child born under such circumstances?
- Alex starts forming a Madonna-Whore Complex, seeking The Ingenue at best, or the Sour Prude at worst, and uses his past experience with Betty to discredit other lusty women in general.
- Played For Laughs: Black Comedy Rape
- Played for Drama:
- Because nobody thinks what happened to Alex was rape, he is unable to deal with the mental problems he has. He develops a serious drug problem, almost dying from overdose on multiple occasions. He refuses to get help because all his former friends told him that he shouldn't be complaining. He eventually distrusts everyone, becoming a recluse. After attempts to press charges fail, Alex acts out against society by committing crimes. He eventually dies bitter and alone.
- After being raped by Betty, Alex hates all women. This results in him subconsciously seeking out revenge, murdering or raping any women he sees who has the same hair color as Betty. When the cops try to arrest him, he decides to first get one last murder. He goes to Betty's house, shoots her to death, and turns the gun on himself.
- Alex is now disgusted by women because of this trope, which is the reason why he could never get justice on the woman who drugged him into submission and raped him.
- Alex's wife Camille catches Betty raping him and assumes he's cheating on her. No matter how many people tell Camille it was against Alex's will, she doesn't believe them. Alex eventually goes insane over being raped and losing his wife over something that wasn't his fault.
