Rail Wars! Nihon Kokuyū Tetsudō Kōantai (RAIL WARS! -日本國有鉄道公安隊-?, lit. "Rail Wars! Japanese National Railways Security Force") is a Japanese light novel series written by Takumi Toyoda, with illustrations by Vania 600. The series was published from 2012 to 2020 for 20 volumes. A manga adaptation was serialized in Comic Blade from 2012 to 2015, and an anime adaptation aired in the summer of 2014.
Tropes in Rail Wars:
- 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: Some outdoor shots of trains and buildings are clearly CG.
- Accidental Pervert: Naoto on two occasions in the first episode alone, both times on Haruka. Aoi immediately calls him out on the first one when a gust of wind blows up Haruka's skirt, and the second one is after he accidentally gets a Panty Shot of her while searching for a dog in a train.
- Action Girl: Aoi, and it's how she was introduced.
- Almost Kiss: Happens between Aoi and Naoto at the end of episode 9 after he says she looks cute in dresses, prompting her to turn around really close to him.
- Always Close: Used a couple of times in the show:
- In episode 2, the time bomb is stopped just moments before reaching zero.
- In episode 5, when Naoto and Aoi stop the train by hitting a wire designed to warn a train engineer of fallen rocks on the tracks, said train stops just short of hitting the two who are standing on the track.
- During episode 9, although they fail to stop the train car they're riding in, the K4 group manages to jump out somewhat safely. They also manage to deliver the human organ they were transporting to a station near the hospital where it was needed for a transplant.
- Ambiguously Gay: Iida for Hitomi, her friend and the instructor.
- Artistic License – Gun Safety: In episode 6, Aoi pulls out a gun and aims it at Naoto, thinking he was up to no good with Haruka. Though she probably didn't really mean to fire, a person in a penguin suit runs into her, and accidentally causes her to fire at them. Though it was just an airsoft gun, the shot fired from it hits a small statue near the two, causing them to think a sniper was firing at them. Made more of a Face Palm situation by the fact that Aoi was raised by a police officer, and should know better than to aim a gun, even an airsoft one, at someone if she wasn't intending to shoot them.
- Awesome by Analysis:
- Both Haruka and Naoto know a lot of about trains, and put said knowledge to effective use, such as how to place coal in an steam powered train to increase its speed.
- After they're unable to find the bomb in one of the station's many coin lockers, one of them mentions it being in the last place they'd look. Haruka then receives a phone call from the Lost & Found area, saying the dog they brought in from the previous episode started barking like crazy for some reason. Shou then realizes that's where the bomb is.
- Mari Sassho, a childhood friend of Naoto, can tell what train is running based simply on what it sounds like. This becomes incredibly useful when they're attempting to find a missing friend of hers later in the episode.
- Naoto notes a suspicious looking staff member in episode 4 while Noa is onstage. He recalls the flash paper incident during rehearsal the previous day along with the death threat letter to Noa, and figures that said staff member was probably the sender of the letter. He leaps onto the stage and jumps in front of the man before the latter could get to Noa. He later comments that he just did all that on impulse.
- Balanced Harem: In the anime, none of the girls interested in Naoto has a significant lead over the others, mostly because he's Oblivious to Love and doesn't notice anyway. Noa however, states in episode 8 that she doesn't mind a little competition.
- Beach Episode: Episode 4 has the main characters protecting Noa, an idol who's currently promoting the rail company.
- Beware the Nice Ones: One of the purse-snatching thugs from the first episode gets an AEDnote thrown at his face when he tries to attack Haruka.
- Big Eater: Shou is seen on tv at an eating contest in episode 6. The announcer mentions that he ate quite a large amount of food in the preliminary round. And in episode 7, he's constantly complaining about being hungry and wondering when the next meal is.
- The Big Guy: Both Shou and Aoi has shades of one, although it's more pronounced on Shou.
- Big Damn Heroes: Naoto and the others generally end up doing this once an episode.
- Blood Knight: Aoi seems to enjoy the chasing down, fighting, and apprehending criminals aspect of her job quite a lot, even though it's technically a secondary function of it. Naoto constantly reminds her that passenger safety is their top priority. Aoi claims it's due to her father's influence on her since he was a police officer and wanted her to become one as well.
- Bodyguard Crush: Noa seems interested in Naoto after he saves her life from a crazed man in episode 4 of the anime.
- Bridal Carry: Naoto carried Aoi out of a train in this manner at the end of episode 11.
- Cassandra Truth: Naoto attempts to explain Haruka's nakedness in episode 6 as her losing her clothing to throw off assassin cats. It doesn't sound very believeable to Aoi, despite the fact that she saw cats around Haruka's clothing.
- Charge-into-Combat Cut: Used near the end of episode 3 when Naoto, Aoi, and Shou rush three drug dealers.
- Chekhov's Gun: The liquid nitrogen in the restaurant in episode 2 is later used to defuse a bomb.
- Childhood Friends:
- Naoto and Mari, who went to school and hung out together prior to the series starting.
- Bernina says in episode 10 that he attended school with Haruka for a while. She tries to state that it was just for a quick tour overseas, and seems uncomfortable about it around Naoto.
- Cliffhanger:
- Used at the end of episode 8. After hitting a bump, Aoi, Shou, and Haruka all lose their balance and fall towards Naoto. He lets out a scream as if they're going to die.
- Another one at the end of episode 10, shortly after Aoi saves Naoto and Bernina from a thug attacking the two.
- Clingy Jealous Girl:
- Aoi starts showing signs of this in episode 7, when Mari is seen working at the same restaurant near the training academy they're at, and Haruka pulls up close to his seat. She makes a Deadpan Snarker comment to him about being surrounded by girls, then "accidentally" spills her drink in his general direction. Then after Mari gives him a different side dish than every one else because he says he doesn't like leeks, Aoi reaches over and eats it while Haruka thinks to herself that Mari knows quite a bit about him.
- Haruka gets angry at Naoto at the end of episode 7 after thinking he was ditching their group to secretly meet up with Aoi. Then during episode 8, after Noa latches onto his arm inside the church, she stands up with an angry look. However, the latter shoots her a Death Glare, which immediately causes her to sit back down.
- Clothing Damage: Haruka suffers a tear in her school uniform in episode 6, and also gradually sheds her clothing throughout the episode due to running away with Naoto from a possible threat on his life.
- Clueless Chick-Magnet: Naoto never seems to notice the affection girls feel for him. Haruka, Aoi, and Bernina all seem to be interested in him in the original light novel, and the anime adds in Mari and Noa.
- Treads dangerous territory at the end of episode 7 when Aoi, Haruka, and Noa all confront him in the church, thanks to Iida's meddling.
- Contrived Coincidence:
- Naoto keeps ending up in the same group with Aoi, Shou, and Haruka, such as when they're in school, and later assigned to the same security team. He does wonder why it keeps happening, but at the same time none of them seem to mind it too much.
- In episode 5, Iida tells them that the bomber from episode 2 has an accomplice, and shows them a picture of the guy. Sure enough, Aoi almost accidentally kicks a guy, who just happens to be said accomplice. She and Naoto end up following him the rest of the episode, though ultimately he's apprehended by other security forces after the bomber blows up a section of railroad, forcing Aoi and Naoto to focus on that issue.
- Naoto also runs into Mari quite a bit despite both of them working in different areas, such as Mari being assigned for practical training on the same exact train he's using to escort a VIP.
- Crazy Enough to Work: In episode 11, Aoi teasingly calls Naoto a prince. It later gives him the idea to switch uniforms with Bernina to fool the bad guys into thinking he's the prince, while Bernina is escorted safely away so they can focus on rescuing Haruka.
- Credits Running Sequence: Naoto does one in the ending credits.
- Cursed with Awesome: Naoto is rather disappointed in the fact, that he'll never become a train driver because of his involvement in stopping various crimes throughout the station.
- Damsel in Distress: Happens to Haruka in episode 11 after she's captured by some bad guys.
- Date Peepers: Though technically not on a date, Aoi follows Haruka and Naoto around in episode 6 after seeing them together. Especially after seeing them run off while holding hands as if getting intimate.
- Death Glare: Noa does one to Haruka in episode 8 when the latter stood up after being uncomfortable watching the former latching herself around Naoto's arm. This causes Haruka to meekly sit back down.
- The Determinator: Noa is determined to go through with her concert in episode 4 after someone sends her a death threat and replaces her confetti with flash paper
during a rehearsal as a warning to her. However, she feels that she has come to far to back down and cancel in her career. And fortunately for her, the main characters are assigned to protect her. - Distracted by the Sexy:
- Naoto is occasionally afflicted with this when he gets glimpses of Haruka's breasts.
- Aoi tends to do this to him a lot as well, though usually inadvertently such as when she falls on him after the train they're on jolts in episode 5.
- Does Not Like Men: Aoi appears to be this way at first, and constantly accuses Naoto of being a pervert.
- Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Aoi sometimes hits Naoto, even if he was innocent, such as in episode 5 after they're done chasing after a bomber suspect.
- In episode 6 she points a gun at him. And fires. Luckily she misses and destroys a small figurine nearby.
- Dynamic Entry: Aoi does one at the end of episode 10, kneeing a bad guy in the face as he attempts to attack Naoto and Bernina.
- Engrish: Used in episode 3 when a foreigner asks Naoto for directions in English. He's unable to answer since his English isn't very good, but fortunately Haruka tells the man where he needs to go.
- Eyes Always Closed: The instructor for the four main characters in episode 7.
- False Start:
- Haruka seems nearly give a Love Confession to Naoto a couple of times in episode 6, but it's interrupted each time by outside forces, such as a couple of thieves, and later Aoi.
- Aoi nearly gives one to Naoto near the end of episode 11 when they're both stuck in a runaway train. They are interrupted by Captain Gonou who catches up to them in her security train to help stop their runaway car.
- Fanservice:
- Used quite a bit in episode 4. Justified in that they're at the beach, so the female characters wearing swimsuits would be appropriate.
- Episode 5 nearly tops it with gratuitous Male Gaze shots of Aoi in her uniform.
- Flash Back: One is used in episode 6 to show how Haruka first met Naoto. See the Forgotten First Meeting for further details.
- Food as Bribe: convines Shou to go to the training center in episode 7 when she says the food at a nearby station is good.
- Forgotten First Meeting: After Naoto saves Haruka when she falls off a ladder in the first episode, she quietly comments that it's the second time he's saved her, indicating that he's done it before and forgot about it. Episode 6 reveals their first interaction in a Flash Back, and is almost a repeat of what happened when they first met, with Haruka being trapped inside a closet, but Naoto telling her he called for help. Later he tells her not to hate the railway because of this, and says it to her again when he locks her in to prevent the thieves from getting to her.
- From Bad to Worse: In episode 8, a mudslide stops the regular trains from running. Car traffic is also stopped due to the bad weather. Unfortunately a doctor needs to deliver a human organ to a hospital within two hours, or else someone's life will be at stake. Haruka ends up volunteering, along with Naoto, Aoi, and Shou, but they're limited to taking a track that hasn't been used in a while, and they're stuck with a tiny train car to use. Then in episode 9, all three of the train car's brake system fail, forcing them to jump from it when they reach their destination.
- Funbag Airbag:
- One happens in episode 4 in the form of a Suggestive Collision when Naoto winds up getting his face pressed between the chests of Noa and her manager when he tries to prevent the latter from falling.
- Naoto is perhaps the only boy on record to accidentally run a (model) train into a girl's breasts in episode 5.
- A more straight example is used in episode 9 when Haruka falls on top of him in the small train car they're riding after they hit a bump.
- Happens to Naoto again in episode 12 when Iida wakes him up while leaning over him, causing him to plant his face straight into her chest.
- The Glomp:
- A naked Haruka does this to Naoto in episode 6 after the two thieves chasing them are subdued by Aoi, Iida, and Hitomi.
- She does it again in episode 11 after he and Aoi are saved when they fail to escape the runaway train in time earlier.
- The Gunslinger: Not only Aoi is very athletic, she's a good shot with a handgun (on one hand) as well.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: Iida and Hitomi.
- Hopeless Suitor: Though she doesn't specifically say anything about it, after Naoto mentions waiting for Aoi to do a patrol with, Haruka definitely has a look on her face suggesting that she's losing ground with him to her, especially after she walks away from him. However, episode 6 spends a lot of time with her and Naoto.
- Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Subverted in episode 4. Naoto gets stabbed with a knife by the crazed man onstage, but the stamp booklet Noa gave him earlier inside his bulletproof vest saves him. Though he complains about some pain, at least he's not bleeding.
- Improbable Aiming Skills: Both Naoto and Aoi demonstrate this in episode 5:
- In Naoto's case, he hits Aoi with his eyes closed during their paintball fight. He closed them because he wanted to avoid getting a Panty Shot, and inadvertently does, by hitting her with a paintball round in between her legs.
- In Aoi's case, while she's shown to be a really good shot, when she fires her shot near the end of the episode, she's suffering from both a concussion, along with some bleeding from her arm, weakening her grip. She forces Naoto to crouch in front of her so she can use his body to steady her aim, and despite her injuries, manages to hit the wire she was aiming for.
- Info Dump: Naoto does them in the next episode preview credits, spouting off some information about trains or train stations, before being interrupted by one of the girls who then tells viewers what the next episode is really about.
- Innocent Fanservice Girl: Haruka in episode 6. She gradually takes off her clothing after cats chase after them due to the catnip they fell on earlier, until she's completely naked by the end. Despite that, she doesn't seem embarrassed that Naoto sees her in the nude, though it may also be because he's constantly being harassed by Aoi by that point.
- Kick Chick: Aoi uses her legs a lot in fights.
- Kick the Dog: Attempted with an actual dog. In episode 2, a terrorist puts a bomb into a dog carrier with an actual dog.
- Leg Focus: Aoi's legs are prominently displayed in her uniform, especially since she tends to make liberal use of her feet in a fight.
- Love Epiphany: Though it's hinted at earlier, Aoi definitely starts realizing her feelings for Naoto in episode 5, especially after he finds her when they get separated near the end of the episode.
- Love Hurts: Haruka always seems a bit upset anytime Naoto is spending too much time with another girl, especially Aoi.
- Major Injury Underreaction: Aoi just manages to avoid getting blown to smithereens in episode 5 after a suspect she's chasing with Naoto throws his bomb onto the track while they're pursuing him. Though she's bleeding from her arm, and seems to be suffering a concussion as well, she tells Naoto to stand in front of her so she can shoot at a safety wire rigged to warn train engineers of fallen rocks on the tracks to stop it from driving over the section the bomber blew up.
- Male Gaze:
- Used occasionally, such as the shot of Naoto and Shou being shown in between Aoi's legs.
- Used extensively on Aoi in episode 5. The camera even lingers on certain parts of her body at times.
- Haruka gets this service in episode 6, such as the camera panning behind her as she exercises on a treadmill.
- Used extensively again in episode 7, such as the shot behind Haruka as she stretches out.
- In episode 11, after Mari finishes a shower, she takes her towel off in front of Aoi while explaining how to use one on a train.
- Ms. Fanservice:
- Haruka with her big bouncing breasts. She has also few Panty Shot scenes and appear naked also.
- Aoi as she's usually shown rather suggestively, and has her jacket unbuttoned compared to Haruka who has hers buttoned up. Episode 5 also does this extensively, with very suggestive shots and camera angles on her in her uniform.
- Noa, being an idol, also gets this treatment in episode 4.
- Marilyn Maneuver: Happen to Haruka in the first episode because of the wind. Another episode has Aoi victim in the same way. Both times strangely without glimpse of panties despite to be a fanservice show.
- Marshmallow Hell: An episode has Haruka use this to calm down a lost kid.
- Moment Killer: During moments when Haruka seems to be getting closer to Naoto, something tends to inadvertently interrupt them, usually Aoi.
- Mundane Made Awesome:
- Shou while attempting to pedal on the bike in episode 8. Later he and Aoi scream while attempting to counterbalance the train car from tipping over during curved sections of the track. Naoto tells them that they sound silly when they do it.
- Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
- Aoi takes the rear car in episode 7 during a conductor training session. Naoto signals repeatedly for her to apply her brakes to slow the train down, but she gives some nonsensical replies with her horn and doesn't bother due to being upset at him wanting to be an engineer instead of a security officer. He then attempts to apply full brakes on the front car he's in, since she's not doing her part. As a result however, it causes the train to derail, though it was just a virtual simulation.
- Shou accidentally breaks the train car's braking lever in episode 9 after he pulls on it a little too hard. He tries to stop it by simply grabbing it from behind, but the dynamic brake compartment falls off with him instead.
- Non-Action Guy: Played straight for the most part with Naoto. Though he seems capable in a fight, as seen in episode 3, most of the time he lets Aoi and Shou do the fighting, such as when protecting Bernina aboard a train in episodes 10 and 11. Justified however, in that while he is part of railway security, he's much more interested in becoming an engineer.
- No Sense of Personal Space: Despite saying she hates men, Aoi tends to get rather up close and personal to Naoto several times throughout the show.
- Oblivious to Love: Naoto, who doesn't seem to realize that many of the show's women are falling for him.
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: The fight between Aoi, Naoto, and Shou versus three drug dealers at the end of episode 3 isn't shown. Instead it does a Charge-into-Combat Cut, and the next few scenes show the protagonists the next day, indicating they won said fight.
- Patient Childhood Love Interest:
- Played straight with Haruka. Though she's only had a brief encounter with him, she still remembers him and isn't being overly aggressive in displaying her affections towards him, though she doesn't like it when other girls do so, such as Noa.
- Potentially played straight with Mari in the anime. She definitely spent time with Naoto growing up, and knows a lot of little details about him, such as his favorite side dishes. Like Haruka, she hasn't made any overt romantic moves towards him, though the other girls certainly sense the connection she has with him. However in episode 9 she mentions Noa as a rival, and says it's a secret when Haruka inquires about it.
- Pocket Protector: The stamp book Noa gives Naoto in episode 4 ends up saving his life when a crazed man attacks her.
- Promoted to Love Interest: Mari. In the original light novels, she's moderately close at best with Naoto and seemingly develops an interest in Shou after he rescues her. In the anime, she seems to have become a Patient Childhood Love Interest for Naoto, and seems to know everything about him.
- There's also Noa, who doesn't really show any interest in him in the light novel, but displays some very forward affection for him in the anime; the fanbook also has her showing some signs of attraction towards him.
- Rail Enthusiast: Naoto goes into spurs at the previews for the next episode, showcasing the history and details of specific trains in Japanese history, with another character coming in and telling him to stop talking and go back to the actual preview.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Iida, who's in charge of the main character's team. She gives them a surprising amount of freedom to perform their missions however they see fit, such as when they defuse a bomb in episode 2, or when they stop a crazed man from attacking Noa in episode 4.
- Revolvers Are Just Better: One of the standard firearms issued to the group. Interestingly they only use them a few times, as they focus more on melee fighting when they have to subdue someone.
- Scary Shiny Glasses: Hitomi has this look on her during the opening. Then shortly after Iida hugs her, the glasses revert to normal and her eyes are visible.
- Scenery Censor: Played straight for the TV version. There's plenty of Fanservice, but no sign of Censor Steam. Instead the women are shown from behind, something is blocking the view, usually their arms, or the camera angle is positioned in such a way that the naughtier parts are just out of view and cuts away before anything is shown for long. Averted for the Blu-rays which of course, are uncensored.
- Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!:
- Though they were told to report back to their superior at the end of the day in episode 1, two men stealing a woman's purse right in front of them causes the four main characters to chase after them. They manage to catch up to the thugs who escaped on a train to another station, and though they get scolded, it doesn't seem to affect their performance. As a result, they're allowed to do the on-the-job training.
- In episode 2, they're told not to deal with the bomb after they receive a threat about one being in Tokyo Station. However, due to the bomb squad not being able to make it there on time, Aoi acts on her own, and gets Naoto to help her with it.
- Though they're suspended and not supposed to be outside anyway, Haruka and Naoto run around town trying to evade attackers targeting him. Aoi, who also isn't supposed to be out, follows them.
- Secret-Keeper: Naoto is asked to keep one in episode 10, after finding out Bernina is actually a girl.
- Ship Tease: Done quite a bit with Aoi and Naoto. They often get stuck together on various missions throughout the show, though Iida claims it's simply to keep Aoi from doing too many reckless things. To be fair though, almost every girl in the anime gets Ship Tease with Naoto as it almost develops into a Unwanted Harem.
- Shout-Out: Aoi defuses a bomb in Episode 2 by freezing it with a spray can.
- Sneeze Cut: Happens to both Aoi and Hitomi in episode 12 on separate occasions after they are mentioned by Naoto and Iida.
- Static Stun Gun: One is used on Naoto in episode 10. He manages to absorb two shocks before keeling over in pain with Bernina pointlessly trying to cover him. The latter was about to be the recipient of a taser shock as well, were it not for Aoi's timely knee attack to the thug. Aoi later suffers one in episode 11 after intercepting one for Naoto.
- Stealth Pun: Defense Four is read as Ke-Yon/K4, which is possibly a Shout-Out to K-On!. It may also refer to several models of trains from different countries whoes name includes "K4"
- Straight Man: Naoto is showing shades of one, especially compared to Aoi.
- Suggestive Collision:
- Haruka falls off of a ladder onto Naoto and, somehow, he ends up on top in the standard anime boob-grope pose.
- In episode 4, Naoto in an attempt to catch Noa's manager winds up briefly sandwiched between Noa and her assistants breasts before falling.
- Happens again to Naoto in episodes 8 and 9 while riding on the little train car with Shou, Haruka, and Aoi.
- Practically every time Aoi collapses onto Naoto, it's done in a very suggestive manner, even though the context of the situation is entirely different, such as her being badly injured and falling on him.
- Super-Speed Reading: Haruka shows this in episode 3 while looking at reports of the previous day when Mari mentions her friend possibly having been kidnapped. She does it again in episode 8, memorizing a large dictionary-sized manual for how to operate the little train car the group is using to deliver a human organ to a hospital in time.
- Sustained Misunderstanding: Naoto receives what he believes is a death threat letter in episode 6. He shows it to Haruka, who believes he may be a target for an assassination due to his role in foiling various plots against the JNR. Aoi dropping her phone while calling them convinces them he is being targeted, and various other things happen to sustain said misunderstanding, such as getting shot at (by an airsoft gun that Aoi had on her), and later being targeted by some thieves who broke into the train museum. At the end, Naoto shows the letter to Aoi, who then figures out it's just an advertisement for life insurance. When she ridicules him for it, he mentions getting shot at. But Aoi, who accidentally shot at him, plays dumb, and acts like he was just overreacting.
- Tempting Fate:
- In episode 9, after one of the braking mechanisms breaks off, Naoto mentions that as long as their dynamic brakes work, they should be fine. Naturally it breaks shortly after he says that.
- During episode 10, Bernina says he's fifth in line for succession of the throne. He says that unless something were to happen, he likely wouldn't be made king. Then a news report comes in, stating that the king and the other four siblings were seriously hurt in a car accident.
- The Show Must Go On: Iida does this in episode 4, when a crazed man shows up on stage to attack Noa during her concert. She makes it seem like it's part of the act, and has Naoto protect Noa. Because of the way Iida portrayed the situation, the audience is none the wiser that said attacker really was intent on harming Noa were it not for Naoto and the others protecting her, and a crowd panic scenario is avoided.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Aoi is markedly more tomboy compared to Haruka.
- Trail Of Breadcrumbs: Though not actual food, Aoi manages to track down Naoto and Haruka in episode 6 based on finding things they left behind, such as her clothing and his phone.
- Tsundere: Aoi gradually develops this way towards Naoto. She doesn't like him at first, but gradually develops feelings for him and acts hot and cold towards him.
- Unprovoked Pervert Payback: Naoto gets punched in the face by Aoi in episode 6 after she assumes that he was a perverted lech for stripping Haruka down to nakedness.
- Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Naoto finds one in episode 10, first by female underwear in the room he's sharing with Bernina while the latter was showering. Then it's confirmed when she passes out in the shower due to the shock of the news that her family was hurt in a car accident, and he opens the door to get her out of there. However, she asks him to keep it a secret, as only a few members of her family know her true gender. Not even Haruka, a childhood friend, knows.
- Unwanted Harem: In the anime, Naoto gradually gains one as the show progresses. Though it's somewhat subtle at first, by episode 7 almost every female character is interested in him, and start showing their feelings more towards him. Unfortunately he's still Oblivious to Love, which upsets them more. And episode 10 introduces another one...
- Gets lampshaded by Aoi in episode 7, complete with Naoto's retort:
Aoi: You're a lucky guy for being surrounded by cute girls, Takayama.Naoto: Are you one of them, Sakurai? - Violently Protective Girlfriend: Aoi invokes this in episode 4 after Naoto gets stabbed by a crazed man. She screams his name, rushes the crazed man, kicks his knife away (which also has no sign of blood on it), and then slams the perpetrator on the ground to subdue him.
- Wham Line: Naoto accidentally gives one to Aoi in episode 10, when she says she doesn't want to rely on a guy for support like in Cinderella. He then mentions that any guy who hits on her is going to have a rough time. His statement shocks her so much she is unable to reply.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Aoi gets incredibly upset at Naoto in episode 7 when he says he wants to be an engineer instead of a security officer like her. She acts rather cold and distant towards him for much of the rest of the episode and sabotages their training session.
- World of Buxom: Almost every female character is well endowed.
